On today's episode, Greg is joined by Jennifer Ives -- a seasoned leader working at the intersection of business and technology, an in-demand AI advisor to C-suite executives, and all-around big thinker.   Together, Jennifer and Greg set out to bust some AI myths. Is your organization really falling behind? Is everyone else already using AI? And isn't "everything" AI these days, anyway? Does AI literacy matter for line-of-business leaders? Are ethics important? And a whole lot more. Tune in as they discuss the current state of AI adoption in organizations. They highlight that only a small percentage of organizations are leveraging true artificial intelligence. They emphasize the importance of AI literacy at the executive level and the need for organizations to start small, test and learn, and build out their AI strategies. They also discuss the challenges organizations face, such as data cleanliness and the development of ethical AI frameworks. They conclude that, no, you're (probably) not behind -- but warn that the early movers now are developing a big advantage. So, if you haven't started yet, the time is now. When we think of self-care, vacation and a day at the spa may come to mind. While these activities certainly soothe our bodies, what can we do to soothe the mind and soul? Do you struggle to take the time to process difficult emotions? In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to allow our inner thought life to fall to the wayside, eventually leading to burnout and despair.  Janice McWilliams is a therapist, spiritual director, writer and speaker. As a ministry leader with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, she taught ministry skills addressing the value of life-balance. As she moved into spiritual direction and therapy, she began to consider the critical aspects of self-care so people in ministry can maintain their mental health and thrive. She shares how taking control of her thoughts and emotions has substantially improved her quality of life.  Janice's book, Restore My Soul, explores the four critical areas of self-care to help us bring our full emotional self to our relationship with God. Messiah Jesus died, taking our punishment, and rose again proving He is God. Trust in Him.” • • •First ImportanceThey Received It (mind and heart)The Stand In It (will)They Are Saved By It • • •2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. • • •Sermon Points:The GospelThe Word of GodRelationships • • •John 15:13 ESV13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. • • •1 Peter 5:7 ESV7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. • • •1 Corinthians 12:24-27 ESV24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. 27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. • • •Romans 12:4-5 ESV4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. • • •Application:How can we encourage, strengthen and model interdependence in our mission to share the Gospel?

Abstract: Schizophrenia is a debilitating neuropsychiatric disorder whose underlying correlates remain unclear despite decades of neuroimaging investigation. One contentious topic concerns the role of global signal fluctuations and how they affect more focal functional changes. Moreover, it has been difficult to pinpoint causal mechanisms of circuit disruption. Here we analysed resting-state fMRI data from 47 schizophrenia patients and 118 age-matched healthy controls and used dynamical analyses to investigate how global fluctuations and other functional metastable states are affected by this disorder. We then used in-silico perturbation of a whole-brain model to identify critical areas involved in the disease. We found that brain dynamics in the schizophrenic group were characterised by an increased probability of globally coherent states and reduced recurrence of a substate dominated by coupled activity in the default mode and limbic networks. Perturbing a set of temporoparietal sensory and associative areas in a model of the healthy brain reproduced global pathological dynamics. Healthy brain dynamics were instead restored by perturbing a set of medial fronto-temporal and cingulate regions in the model of pathology. These results highlight the relevance of global signal alterations in schizophrenia and identify a set of vulnerable areas involved in determining a shift in brain state. Still, when it comes to marketing their business to attract new talent and team members, they often fall short.   My guest Sam Harrop will cover eleven critical areas of your podiatry business that need your attention if you want to become an employer of choice and have potential team members chasing you instead of the other way around.  Sam is the author of ‘Getting Stuff Done' and ‘Small Business Big Exit'. He is also the Business Maximiser Programme founder, a coaching program designed for ambitious tradie business owners. He helps them to maximise sales, productivity, and cash flow.  In this episode, we discuss:  Q: What is the purpose of a business? A: It's a vehicle to achieve your personal goals. What is your brand as an employer? You are effectively marketing yourself as an employer of choice so you can attract people. Ep 35 - Greg Conderacci: The Author of the Book 'Getting UP! Supercharging Your Energy'

Change Your Mindset

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 30, 2017 51:12

Do you know the difference between time management and energy management? If you’re a CPA, accountant or anyone that's entering their peak revenue season, this podcast is a must-listen. We have a number of tips and techniques on how to get the most energy out of ourselves and how to generate more energy when we need it. Greg Conderacci is an expert on energy management. He wrote Getting Up!: Supercharging Your Energy and rode his bicycle across the United States of America in 18 days averaging 150 miles a day. He really understands energy management. Greg believes that we should move away from those old time management techniques into a new and more productive method of managing our energy.   “We’re kinda missing the boat here in the 21st century by talking about time management time management time management when, really, I think this is the century of energy management.”   The emphasis on time management goes back a couple hundred years. When most people in the U.S. worked on farms, the day started when the sun came up and it ended when the sun went down. During the Industrial Revolution, there was a concerted effort to make people think of time laterally. People on assembly lines were taught to think of time in terms of minutes and hours. We are still victims to this time management mentality, especially in our education system.   Not a lot of people work on assembly lines anymore, so why do we still have that mentality?   We need to focus on where we add value – and we add value with our energy.   “If you look at people who are making fabulous amounts of money, they're making fabulous amounts of money because of the value that they're adding – not because of the time they’re spending.” The key is to focus on energy flows. None of us are at 100% peak all day long so you should take note of the times that you are most efficient and effective and schedule the most intellectually challenging work at those times. After that, Greg has two big suggestions for maximizing the amount of energy you have in those times: Get at least seven hours of sleep. Drink a lot of water.   Your energy is maximized when you have seven hours of good sleep (so don’t drink yourself to sleep!). On top of getting energy, your brain is also working while you’re asleep. You can literally solve problems in your sleep. There’s also value to the idea of a midday siesta, or an afternoon power nap. Most people are at their lowest energy between 2:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon, anyway. Sleep or rest will charge your batteries and make you more productive for the rest of the day. The last part of the equation are all of the energy suckers in your environment. We have technology, we have instant messaging, we have texting, we have constant interruptions and, if that's not enough, we’ll pull out our cell phones. Discipline will save your energy. “We're working on a scarce resource. We should manage our time carefully, there’s no question about that, but we keep thinking it's going to give us more time – it's not!” If you have energy and you are purposeful about using it on your most intellectually challenging work, then you can maximize productivity by doing less challenging tasks when you have less energy. Emails don’t need to be checked first thing in the morning. I greatly appreciate Greg coming on the show to share these extremely valuable tips for getting the most out of our energy. Back in Episode 65, we talked about Strategic Simple Living and shared a few great tools you can use to plan your simple living strategy. Specifically, we used the 4 Direction Ideation Tool of Looking Outward/Inward/Backward/Forward as lenses for developing your strategy. We shared how we used this tool when downsizing for trying to find the perfect area for us to live. But when we came to a decision point, we used a different framework for evaluating our final choice...and actually choosing where we're moving to. So, armed with all we learned from the 4 Direction Ideation Tool process, we did our final analysis through the lenses of the 4 major areas of our life: Home, Work, Community, and Self.  And yep, we're moving! We don't have a hard and fast timeline yet, but we actually put our money where our collective mouth is and bought a lot to build on! Read More... Topic:  4 Critical Areas You Need to Consider When Downsizing Background So there are 4 critical areas you need to consider when downsizing, moving, simplifying, or making any other major change in life if you want to achieve and maintain some kind of congruence. They are Home, Work, Community, and Self. I borrowed and tweaked some definitions for these from a course I took through Wharton taught by Stew Friedman. But the true key is that you need to define these areas for yourself. What works for you might be completely different from what works for us and that’s fine. Again, the goal is to achieve some congruity between these areas and create what Dr Friedman calls “4 Way Wins.” A 4 Way Win is an activity that has a positive impact on each of the four major areas of your life. Again, those are Home, Work, Community, and Self. Example Continuing on with our example of looking for the ideal place for us to live, you can listen in to the episode and hear how we looked at those 4 critical life areas and how they impacted our downsizing efforts and our simplicity journey. So the big announcement for us is that we're moving to East Aurora, New York. Yeah...we know...we're the family that is actually moving TO the Buffalo, NY area! But we know exactly what we're getting into! I'm from Buffalo and it'll be great to get back there after 31 years away, and living all over the world. And the little village of East Aurora embodies so much of what we're looking for in a small town community. If you listen back to Episode 65 you'll be amazed at what we said we were looking for, and what East Aurora has to offer. All except "mild winters," that is! "Anyhoos" (as Vanessa would say), here's a quick video of some of the history of East Aurora and it's influence on simplicity. You'll see right off why we're attracted to it! If you can’t see this video in your RSS reader or email, then click here. Four Areas So we've mentioned these four major life areas. Let’s address these one at a time. If you listen in to the show, you'll see how we used each of these to evaluate where we’re going to call home. The first area is Home. The home, or family, can include the people (or animals) you live with, your family of origin (parents, siblings, and others), or your family of creation (spouse, partner, significant other, children, and others). We include our physical home too. For us, we want that to be an outgrowth of our relationship with those close to us, and serve as a setting for interaction with them. The second area is Work. Now, this could be different for everyone. For most people, this is your job... what you do for a living or, if you're between jobs, what you're aiming to do next. If you're in school, then consider school as part of your work domain. You can include here the wide array of things you do as part of your career. Then we have Community. Community can mean friends, neighbors, social groups, religious institutions, charitable activities, political committees, membership in nonprofit organizations,
