The process of applying for and securing property titles to Crown lands is being revamped. Tuesday afternoon, the Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture Gerry Byrne launched a new Application Portal and Primary Residence Property Title Program. This initiative is the final step in the recently announced legislation and policy changes to the Lands Act, which aims to eliminate barriers in the application process. CBC's Leila Beaudoin attended the event and spoke with Minister Gerry Byrne.
Episode 32 begins with a recap of Marty Gold's latest reports and columns in the Winnipeg Sun, and the reaction to our most recent podcasts about City Hall. He also previews his upcoming Sunday column about appearing at the Council public hearing this week regarding amendments to zoning bylaws to allow for new HAF-funded housing at malls and along commercial streets. You'll hear how the entire process and the public hearing itself didn't serve the public good. * To send story tips & comments, or to send support to Season 5 costs by E-Transfer- Email martygoldlive@gmail.com 17.00- Part 2- There are 40 agencies involved in the city plan to deal with homelessness and demands for shelter spaces. While some, like St. Boniface Street Links, are taking down illegal camps and getting affected occupants into social service programs, Main Street Project - and official City policy- persists in placing the "human rights" of those campers over the rights of the taxpayers whose lives and safety are upended by the criminals. 26.00 - MSP opposes relocating encampments from river banks to safer spaces inland. Yet the organization takes tax funding from those same residents pleading for relief. Some of those residents told the media this week they don't want to be identified for fear of retaliation. Even Premier Wab Kinew isn't down with the MSP approach. “As a society, we do not accept when people are not of sound mind that we allow them to continue suffering.” Is it time to defund groups like MSP that enable criminals to disrupt the peace and threaten those who blow the whistle? And is it time for Wab Kinew to offer up some Crown Land the homeless encampments can move to? And who is responsible for refugees being among the homeless? You'll hear some surprising statistics about emergency service trips to illegal camps- we await a price tag for those visits. Instead he was viciously beaten by a youth mob and stabbed to death by the then-14 year old ringleader. That punk proceeded to assault 3 of his accomplices. Manslaughter, robbery, weapons charges (brass knuckles!) - and he got 3 years in closed custody. What did he learn from this? What he can get away with if his lawyer plays the 'bad upbringing card. Who should have been wondering "it's 2 AM on Remembrance Day, where's junior?" We ask- what are the repercussions for the parents, social workers, and Nahanni Fontaine's provincial Families Department? 49.45- Another day, another lawsuit against the City of Winnipeg. We go over the details of the claim made by a Nova Scotia company who were turfed from working on the North End Sewage Plant. The way they tell it, it smells like city honchos are covering up for their own bumbling - again. ****** Latest Sun Columns and Stories: City's Push For Housing Steamrolls Over Residents Mayes wants St. Vital residents ready for fight over new fourplex zoning rules COMING UP- More on bus safety; An update on antisemitism in Winnipeg; Dark days for Manitoba Hydro; more interviews! ******* * THANK YOU FOR LISTENING *

This week on the Outdoor Journal Radio Podcast Network's, Diaries of a Lodge Owner, we tackle a large topic - the health of our ecosystems and shed some light on what's happening in Northern Ontario. When you own a business that revolves around, and literally lives inside an ecosystem,a prudent owner knows it's crucial to protect it. We sell experiences based in nature that revolve around clean water, fresh air, and the stunning beauty of the flora and fauna within. One of my greatest joys was sharing with my guests the extraordinary beauty of nature in a way that very few could and, over the years, I was always involved in protecting our resources in any way possible and that continues to this day.So when I found this passionate, ambitious young man doing the same thing, I had to jump on board. This host of the Wild Ontario Podcast can be found on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and wherever you get your podcasts. And it is my pleasure to introduce to you, James Alofs. On this show, we focus on the use of glyphosates, one of the most controversial chemicals on the planet. Some studies say this herbicide does not affect the health of the environment at all. Some studies say it is a probable cause of cancer in humans. What else is affected? Why is it used? And is it necessary? And with the health of our ecosystems in mind, should we be doing something about it? You be the judge. So if you want to know what's going on in our outdoors, you need to take this one in. And I think you will be stunned to find out what's going on right under our noses.

It's been over 30 years since the high court acknowledged that terra nullius was a lie, that this country was not empty – that Indigenous Australians had an ongoing claim to the land beneath our feet. But still today, officially, large swathes of Australia are held as what's called ‘crown land'. What is it? And what do the assumptions about crown land say about the attitude to land ownership in modern Australia? Today, author and Noongar woman, Claire G. Coleman on the case for returning crown land. Giles had an eventful childhood living in Melbourne, Ballarat and New Zealand, among other destinations. These days he enjoys immersing himself in the local arts community and encourages anyone to become involved in things in their immediate environment. He reckons activism is more meaningful at the local level. Thanks so much for being our lovely guest this week, Giles.collingwoodcommunitygardens.org

In this interview, Toby Smith discusses his plans and the current status of the legal fight over the land on Paradise Island. Jeff Gales co-hosts.

Virginia is a mother of two boys, her eldest Jerod is 20 and her youngest Keenan is 14. She has a great love for trees and water. Spent most of her life camping, hiking and swimming in nature. She has developed educational programs called Nature Connects and Forestry Education. You can find her on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/virginia-decarle-262952b7/ "I decided to go to school to when I was 30. My career choice was Forestry. I applied to the Forestry Technician Program at Algonquin College in Pembroke, Ontario. It was a great program with many experienced and knowledgeable professionals who have worked in this field for many years. I graduated with a number of certificates: Chainsaw operator, Certified Tree Marker, Road building and Forest Operation Compliance Certificate. When I graduated I was hired on for a contract by the Senior Forestry Technician for Ontario Parks Pembroke site. My first job was carrying out Young of the Year Brook Trout Surveys in Algonquin Park. Another young woman and I surveyed eight lakes. Our task was to map out new streams/creeks by walking or paddling the circumference of each lake, record stream temperatures, net Y.O.T.Y Brook Trout (if possible) to see if they were present in any of the streams or creeks. Following the Y.O.T.Y Brook Trout Surveys I was hired on for another contract in Algonquin Park which involved carrying out Free to Grow Surveys. Here we measured the growth success of trees planted in previous years. While working on contract I decided I wanted to move to the Bancroft area. I knew that the Forest Industry was the main economic driver there, and it was likely I would find work in my field…..I did. I was hired on as a Certified Tree Marker for a contractor working on Crown Land in the Bancroft area. I worked with the same company for eight seasons, and when my boss retired I started my own tree marking business (deCarle Forestry Services) of which I am also the only employee. Shortly after moving to the Bancroft area I connected with some other forestry professionals in 2010. I was then invited to present my idea to carry out a Forestry Day for grade 7&8 students. The presentation to Bancroft Area Forest Industry Association (B.A.F.I.A) was a success. The first Forestry Day for students in area schools at the grade 7&8 level was in spring of 2011. We connected with a teacher (Colleen Baehre) from North Hastings High School in Bancroft. They have a fantastic program that focuses on forestry and resource management. This is where Forestry Day began. Myself and a fellow forestry professional (Ernie Demuth, R.P.F) in the industry came up with the idea together to put together a whole day that covers the many aspects of what takes place before and during a harvest operation. We had a tree marking station, wildlife values, tree planting, and harvest operations. Included in the event were multiple people who use wood to create functional products such as canoes, musical instruments, cutting boards etc. We also had a local legend who still to this day at 76 years old hand hews logs for buildings. This event has carried on for seven years now, and there's a great support from the area schools."-Virginia Want to be featured?
