What is glamour magic? It’s the practice of consciously working with your own presence, so your most aligned, authentic self comes forward more clearly and consistently. Rooted in Celtic folklore, the Fae were said to cast glamours to alter perception. However, the modern glamour practice I’m going to talk about is not about illusion. This is about being intentional to create alignment between who you are and how you show up in the world. What Is Glamour Magic? The word glamour carries a shimmer to it, something just beneath the surface of ordinary life. Most people think of glamour as external like fashion, beauty, high-end jewelry, or personal presentation. But there’s something deeper here, something far more useful in your real life. Traced back through Celtic folklore, glamour was considered a kind of enchantment. The Fae could cast a glamour to alter perception itself, making something appear more beautiful, powerful, or entirely different than it truly was. It was a kind of energetic artistry that could bend reality with a bit of illusion. Modern glamour practice reclaims that concept, but instead of using it as a pretense, it’s being used here to promote alignment. Think about choosing how you want to show up to match who you are becoming, so your presence is felt more clearly, more consistently, and with far less effort. How to Practice Glamour Magic Glamour practice is built through small, intentional acts that shift both your inner and outer world over time. Here are seven practical methods that you can try. Know that you do not have to do them all. Just choose what appeals most. 1. Use Your Voice Intentionally Why it matters: Your voice and language set the tone for your entire day before anything else happens. Most people use language unconsciously — hedging, softening, second-guessing. But language carries energy. When you choose your words with intention, you shift your internal state, which changes how you feel and how others experience you. How to do it: Replace “I hope” with “I’m choosing” Replace “I’ll try” with “I will” Pause before automatic apologies and decide if they’re actually needed Speak a 20-second identity statement in the mirror each morning. “I move through today with calm confidence. My presence is steady. My words are clear, and people feel that.” When you say this out loud, you’re not wishing. You’re practicing. Your voice becomes a bridge between who you are and who you’re becoming. 2. Consciously Choose Your Scent Why it matters: Scent connects directly to memory, emotion, and mood. It can shift how you feel almost instantly. Instead of choosing a fragrance randomly, assign meaning to what you wear. You might have one scent for confidence, one for calm, one for openness. How to do it: In the morning, decide what energy you want to embody As you apply your scent, breathe it in and set a simple intention: “I carry grounded confidence today” or “I’m stepping into ease and grace” With time, your body associates the scent with that state of being. Wearing it becomes a shortcut to that energy 3. Hold Your Gaze in the Mirror Why it matters: Most people rush past the mirror or avoid their own gaze. Staying there — even briefly — is an act of self-connection that builds inner authority. How to do it: Stand at the mirror and hold eye contact with yourself for 30 to 60 seconds Relax your face, drop your shoulders, and simply be present Say something simple out loud: “I trust myself” or “I am becoming more grounded and at ease” This is where glamour turns inward. You’re not projecting — you’re reinforcing identity. You’ll begin to see yourself differently, and that changes how you move through the world. 4. Create an Anchor Object Why it matters: A physical object worn daily can become a powerful cue for the energy you want to embody. How to do it: Choose something you already wear — a ring, bracelet, or watch Hold it and intentionally connect it with a quality: steadiness, confidence, clarity Say that quality out loud, then wear it as normal Throughout the day, when you touch it, pause and reconnect with that feeling This association strengthens as time passes. It provides a steady support, like a personal talisman but not for luck. It’s for alignment. 5. Use Music to Up Your Vibe Why it matters: Music has a direct and immediate effect on emotional state. One song can shift your mood in seconds. How to do it: As you get ready each morning, play something that matches or elevates how you want to feel Let your body respond, and know that even just a little movement counts This goes beyond listening to embodying a frequency and choosing your state of being rather than waiting for it to arrive 6. Choose Your Daily Story Why it matters: Most people move through life reacting. But underneath every day, there’s a narrative running — and often, it isn’t a kind one. How to do it: Each morning, ask: what kind of day do I want to have, and who do I want to be within it? Choose an energy to hold: confidence, ease, openness, creativity When something unexpected happens, ask: how does the woman I’m becoming move through this? This is where glamour really lives, in your ability to consciously choose your experience and then fully participate in it. 7. How to End of the Day Why it matters: Clearing your energy at the end of the day is just as important as how you begin. Even on a good day, you absorb energy from other people, conversations, and environments. Without releasing it, you carry it forward. How to do it: Wash your hands, step into the shower, or simply pause before bed Imagine the day rinsing away — anything heavy, anything that isn’t yours Say: “My day is complete. I release what I don’t need. I return to myself.” You can also use a smudge stick or palo santo wood to clear your energy Or try an essential oil like Tea Tree or a blend like Purify by doTerra Key Takeaways Glamour magic is about alignment, not illusion. As a teenager in Cairo in the early 1940s, Inji Efflatoun made two great discoveries: art and the Communist Party. Although she was from an elite French-speaking background, Efflatoun chose to “re-Egyptianize” herself, pursue painting and throw herself full-heartedly into anti-imperialist, feminist and leftist agitation. She was eventually arrested during President Nasser's repression of Communists in the early 1960s. It was in prison that she embarked upon the most productive stage of her career as an artist. Today, her prison portraits and the vibrant, luminous paintings of Egyptian rural life she painted after her release are iconic. In this episode we speak to Ahmed Gobba and Avery Gonzales, co-translators of Efflatoun's 1993 memoir, “The Memoir of Inji Efflatoun: From Childhood to Prison.” The memoir is the nucleus of a new book, The Life and Work of Inji Efflatoun, published by SKIRA and edited by Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi and Suheyla Takesh. It comes out in the US on October 7 and is available to pre-order now. On October 9, 2023, the Ocean Navigator passenger vessel owned by Victory Cruise Lines began a 10-night cruise from Montreal, Canada, to Boston, Massachusetts, with 128 passengers and 82 crewmembers aboard. Nine days later, at about 7:00 am, the vessel was docked in Portland, Maine, when a fire broke out in the engine room.The NTSB released a report this week that traced the fire to debris in the engine's lube oil system, which led to a catastrophic mechanical failure in the no. 2 auxiliary diesel generator engine. The fire injured a crewmember, but it self-extinguished after the crew ventilated the engine room. Still, the incident caused some $2.4 million in damage.

On January 8, 2024, a fire broke out in the engine room aboard the 598-foot-long Stride​ cargo vessel while it was refueling at the Barbours Cut Marine Terminal in La Porte, Texas, about 25 miles east of Houston. Crewmembers cut all ventilation to the engine room to extinguish the fire, but not before two crewmembers, a chief engineer and a third engineer, lost their lives. Another worker was seriously injured in the incident as well.The vessel was declared a total loss valued at $12 million, and the operating company, Danaos Shipping Company, which is based in Greece, scrapped the entire ship. 

A new report from the New York Times alleges “federal investigators established a trail of payments from Matt Gaetz,” President-elect Trump's pick for attorney general, “to women including some who testified that Mr. Gaetz hired them for sex.” According to the Times, the chart they obtained ”shows a web of thousands of dollars in Venmo payments between Mr. Gaetz and a group of his friends, associates, and women who had drug-fueled sex parties between 2017 and 2020.” Gaetz denies any wrongdoing since these allegations surfaced. The report comes after Republicans on the House Ethics Committee blocked the release of a report on the former Florida congressman. Kaitlan Collins is near Mar-a-lago with how this new report could further complicate Gaetz's nomination. Plus, 30 years after Susan Smith drowned her two children and blamed it on a black carjacker, she is up for parole. Two recent Cirrus accidents killed a total of seven people. Greg Feith, John Goglia and Todd Curtis have some advice for Cirrus pilots to avoid similar tragedies. They caution newer technology supports, but is not a replacement for, good planning and pilot decision-making.One accident at Kill Devil Hills airport in North Carolina, killed four adults and one child. Another, in Provo, Utah airport killed both occupants.The Kill Devil Hills aircraft apparently had the maximum possible number of occupants. Todd shares his experiences flying with a heavily loaded aircraft and how weight impacts safe flight practices. Kill Devil Hills Airport has a relatively short runway. Planning and maintaining a stabilized approach, making adjustments for trees and towers, and factoring in weather conditions all need consideration when planning to take off and land there.Accident investigators are urged to look into the specific training the pilot had for this Cirrus model.In the Utah flight, the aircraft may have entered an accelerated stall and crashed during a second approach shortly after turning from the downwind leg to the base leg.Like the first accident, ADS-B data indicated that the accident aircraft did not recently land at the accident airport. The pilot's lack of familiarity and planning may be key factors in the crash.
