Israel announced its decision to invade Lebanon on September 30—and so far, it does not seem to be going well. Israeli media has been largely silent on the state of ground operations, but Hezbollah has claimed a number of significant victories that suggest Israel has been unable to find its footing. Despite the assassination of General Secretary Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah and the Lebanese resistance appear to be unbowed. After all, this is an organization that was forged in the successful struggle to expel Israeli soldiers during the occupation from 1982-2000, and once again defeated Israel in 2006. Hezbollah's ability to deter Israeli advances on the ground are significant, but this has not stopped Israel's daily bombing of Lebanon, particularly in the Dahiye suburb south of Beirut. Dahiye and Lebanon's south are now in the spotlight of international media—which often reduce these places, the communities within them, and their histories of resistance to one-dimensional caricatures. Yet the people of these communities and Lebanon at large deserve far better, particularly now as they face the same genocidal war tactics Israel has unleashed in Gaza over the past year. Roqayah Chamseddine, an independent journalist based in Beirut and co-host of the Delete Your Account podcast, joins The Real News with updates from the ground and a portrait of the proud people of Dahiye and Lebanon's south informed by her own roots and years of experience in these communities.Audio Post-Production: Alina NehlichHelp us continue producing radically independent news and in-depth analysis by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer.Sign up for our newsletterLike us on FacebookFollow us on TwitterDonate to support this podcast

In Which We Discuss: 1. Note on Joe Biden's Super Bowl tiktok: In the wise words of Hillary Clinton, delete your account. 2. Jon Stewart is back and has already thought-crimed us so things are looking up! 3. The Santos special election is almost as bizarre as him. 4. Nikki Haley lost Nevada to “none of these candidates,” which is exactly how we'd like to vote in our own primary. 5. We live in a world where the president is too senile to stand trial but happy to run for a second term. 6. Congress has tied their two most evil bipartisan priorities together and now can't pass either. Facebook will pay you to delete your account. All in the name of research! They've partnered with a research group in the USA to study the effects that election information and ads have on people. They'll be changing the experiences of Facebook and Instagram users to modify how much election content they receive and study the results. So of course, they need a control group and that group is being paid to shut off their accounts for a set period of time. How much will you get? Well.. that's up to you. The survey asked if you'd want $10, $15 or $20 to give it a pause - which also happens to be a super interesting data point to see how much people value the service they get. Laptops are in very short supply.Schools, universities, workplaces -- mobility is more important now than ever as people work from home or have a mixed work location schedule and laptops are key to that. So key, that they're actually becoming difficult to find. Stock is limited across the USA. Dell says that it can take time to source all the components needed, then of course they need to be built and shipped. That entire supply chain is stretched right now. LISTEN TO AUDIO ABOVE
Roqayah is off this week, so Kumars is joined from the top of the hour by the hosts of the Left POCket Project Podcast, returning guest Wendi Muse and Richard, who makes his Delete Your Account debut. Wendi is the creator of the Left POCket Project and a PhD Candidate in History at New York University, where her dissertation analyzes the impact of anticolonial struggles in Portuguese Africa on the Brazilian left during the Cold War. Richard is a gig worker and cohost the now defunct Progressive Army’s The Discourse podcast. After sharing a bit about his political origin story, Richard talks about what he learned from participating in the uprisings in Washington state this summer, and Wendi updates listeners on what’s been new in her life since her previous appearance. Wendi and Richard react to this week’s Democratic National Convention and the selection of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate. They discuss Democrats’ appropriation of identity politics and pro-worker rhetoric, corporate attempts to co-opt Black Lives Matter, the discourse around “cancel culture,” and how socialists should think about the relationship between capitalism and white supremacy. Follow Wendi on Twitter @MuseWendi and Richard at @Road2Revolution. The Left Pocket Project podcast is on Twitter @LeftPOC, and available to listen and download whenever pods are cast, but you can find every episode for free as well as support their work at https://www.patreon.com/leftpoc. This week, Roqayah and Kumars have a rare one-on-one debrief on the wave of protests that have erupted in every US state in the wake of the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. After recapping the basics of Floyd’s case, they give listeners a rundown of the spread of the protests across the country and the ensuing media narratives about looting and outside agitators. Roqayah and Kumars also touch on the brutal police repression of both protesters and journalists in mostly Democrat-run cities and states, as well as the growing calls for greater carnage from Trump and the right. The Delete Your Account duo rounds out the hour with some helpful resources if you want to support the mutual aid efforts of People’s Breakfast Oakland and jailed protesters nationwide via the National Bail Fund Network.

Unfortunately, our interview for this week fell through at the last minute, but we didn't want to leave you all without content! We dug deep into the Delete Your Account vault and pulled a clip from one of our favorite interviews, with one of our all-time favorite guests, Mariame Kaba. This clip was from Episode 27, recorded shortly after Trump's election, and we comment on how many of the points Mariame made then, particularly around the concept of left unity, are just as salient today. We also discuss how far the political discourse and balance of power has shifted, from then to now. Follow Mariame on twitter @prisonculture. A mixed week for English clubs in Europe so far as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s party suffers its first real setback, in fact the party too such a turn he chucked out Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba takes himself home. Spurs, on the other hand, are having such a lovely time that if they’re not careful they won’t get their deposit back before they move into the new place.Looking ahead to an FA Cup weekend we’re keeping an eye out for a cupset as Man City visit the mighty Newport County, and there’s the usual mixture of DNA tests, goal machine Shane Duffy and Luke’s live remixing. This week, Bursts was joined by Pat Boyle, a collective member at Unicorn Riot (more about them later in this post), radical independent media project. We chatted about crypto-currency, Bitcoin in particular, technologies and strategies involved in the implementation of crypto-currency, recent comings to light of increased wealth coming via Bitcoin into the hands of far right racists and ecological impacts of crypto-mining. As to the far right, we referenced an article from IdaVox and one from Mic.com, as well as the twitterbot @NeoNaziWallets that can be visited to track transactions with the bitcoin wallets of well-known white supremacists. Chicago Mercantile Exchange trading of Bitcoin was brought up a few times, and it was just introduced to the Private, or secondary, Market of the NASDAQ. An example of an interesting use of cryptocurrency ongoing against the prison industrial complex is the BailBloc project that is shared between the Bronx Freedom Fund and The New Inquiry. Some great Unicorn Riot content that Pat & company have been releasing this year (an incomplete list): Black Snake Killaz, full length documentary about resistance to the #DAPL; Coverage from Greece & the G20 in Hamburg, Germany; on the ground in Charlottesville, VA for Unite The Right; the processing of TONS of documentation of the UTR organizing on the (leaked) Discord chat platform; Our interview last year with Unicorn Riot's Pat Boyle and Wendy Parker; their appearance on Delete Your Account talking about their coverage of the Alt-Right. track heard: Traffic by Babyland from their 1992 album, You Suck Crap.

In this year-end show, hosts Rania Khalek and Kevin Gosztola look back at 2016 with deep contempt and look forward to whatever struggles and catastrophes lie ahead for the world. They are joined by Roqayah Chamseddine, co-host of the "Delete Your Account" podcast and a columnist for Shadowproof.com. The show highlights the Flint water crisis, the contentious debate over identity politics among progressives and the left, and the strawman argument that people who focus on class politics are somehow automatically guilty of ignoring structural racism. Khalek, Chamseddine, and Gosztola also comment on a future in need of resistance, where there is more oil and gas drilling on indigenous land, where professors are targeted for expressing unpopular or controversial views, where the water crisis persists and impacts communities, and where the arming and funding of jihadist opposition groups in Syria directly results in more violence against Western countries. * Thank you for listening and supporting the show all year. We will be back in 2017 with another season of the show and wish you a happy new year.
