In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is John Anderson. What happens when the rockstar lifestyle starts to feel more like a death sentence than a dream? For John, the parties, the wealth, and the wine cellar full of excuses were all just masks for something much darker. He had it all—or so it seemed—until two tragic losses and one haunting realization stopped him in his tracks: If I don't change, I'm next. This is a conversation about money, privilege, and the moment you realize that real wealth isn't what's in your bank account—it's in the life you choose to live. John Anderson is a lifelong business strategist and entrepreneur. Through his published book Replace Retirement: Living Your Legacy in the Exponential Age, and in his coaching business Anderson shares his passion for living the second half of life better than the first half. For 30 years he has coached CEOs and executive teams in developing clear, measurable goals underpinned with structures and insights to achieve both professional and personal success. Anderson's entrepreneurial spirit has guided much of his professional life starting in the office furniture industry where he built, then sold, a leading office furniture dealership. He was the first coach to work with Verne Harnish, during the time Harnish developed Scaling Up, now considered one of the leading executive coaching organizations. Anderson is active in corporate speaking and coaching and has equity in a variety of entrepreneurial companies. The focus of his current work is developing holistic plans for individual executives utilizing the Exponential Leader Practice. In the late 90's John Anderson founded the Detroit Chapter of the Entrepreneurs Organization, was recognized by Michigan's Future 50 award, “Today's Workplace of Tomorrow” award, and in Crain's list of Forty under Forty. He served on the Leadership Oakland board, the Oakland County Business Roundtable and is considered one of the most networked entrepreneurs in the region. Anderson started his career with IBM.

Building the Ballot: The Baseball Hall of Fame’s Era Committees
Today we continue to explore the Negro Leagues and Negro League Hall of Fame candidates. We welcome Gary Gillette, Ted Knorr, and Sean Gibson to the podcast. Gillette, Knorr, and Gibson have joined together to form a new committee—named "42 for 21"—to publicize deserving Negro Leagues & Black Baseball candidates for upcoming Hall of Fame elections. We discuss their backgrounds, how the project started, the election that took place, and what comes next for the project. We specifically looked at a handful of candidates that performed very well in the election but don't rank as highly with Eric Chalek's Negro League MLEs: Rap Dixon, Newt Allen, Spottswood Poles, John Donaldson, Ted “Double Duty” Radcliffe, Oliver “The Ghost” Marcell, and Chet Brewer. Gary Gillette is the founder and current chair of the Friends of Historic Hamtramck Stadium, a nonprofit that is working to restore the former Negro League ballpark near his home in Detroit. Gillette also served for a decade on the Tiger Stadium Conservancy's board of directors. He has four decades of baseball research, writing, and editing experience, beginning with his work with Bill James and Project Scoresheet in the mid-1980s. A contributor to six editions of Total Baseball, Gillette later designed and co-edited with Pete Palmer the five editions of the ESPN Baseball Encyclopedia. Gillette also designed the ESPN Pro Football Encyclopedia and served as executive editor for both editions of that reference work. A former member of the Society for American Baseball Research's (SABR) board of directors, Gillette is a past co-chair of two of SABR's major research committees—the Business of Baseball Committee and the Ballparks Committee. He was the founder and president of SABR's Detroit Chapter and is now the chair of SABR's new Southern Michigan Chapter. Ted Knorr has been a baseball fan since infancy, when his grandma gave him a Brooklyn Dodgers jersey. A few years later, an aunt introduced him to baseball via Ladies Nights at Forbes Field. Later still, a childhood friend—Martha—introduced him to the APBA Major League Baseball Game. Ted has been a SABR member since 1979 and, in 1998, founded and hosted the initial Jerry Malloy Negro League Research Conference. Sean Gibson is the great-grandson of Negro Leagues legend and 1972 National Baseball Hall of Fame player Josh Gibson. Sean has dedicated his life to the preservation of Josh's legacy and is the Executive Director of the Josh Gibson Foundation, a Pittsburgh-area non-profit organization. The Josh Gibson Foundation was established in 1994 in an effort to keep the memory of Pittsburgh's beloved Josh Gibson and the entire Negro Leagues alive. The foundation partners with the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University and Carnegie Mellon University by matching up college students with elementary and middle school youth for tutoring. With a strong focus on education, the foundation currently serves roughly 300 children and plans to increase those numbers by starting new programs yearly. The foundation also sponsors the Josh Gibson Baseball Academy. 42 for 21: https://www.42for21.org/ The Josh Gibson Foundation: https://www.joshgibson.org/

How we communicate will set the tone for how we lead through this crisis and set the stage for how we lead AFTER the crisis, in the world of the new normal. Relationships with ALL stakeholders are critical to our success and how we navigate the complex world of communication right now during the crisis will either cement those relationships to build a strong foundation for the future or destroy them. This is an opportunity to galvanize the team, the business and maybe even the industry. Communication is one of the key traits of authentic leadership and in this episode, we look to an industry veteran in the field to help us understand and explore this topic. Welcome to Part 2 of the LIM Dublin Interviews from May 2019.It was an amazing week by all accounts. While I only had the fortune to be at LIM for 2 days, I was able to pack a lot in. During the 2 days, I was also able to connect with a number of attendees at the LIM which included Members of PMI at HQ in Philadelphia and Chapter leaders from across the globe. This episode shares the final set of short interviews so you can get a better understanding of different parts of the PMI, what’s happening in other chapters and of course, hear loud and clear the value and benefits gained from volunteering for your local chapter. We’ve also added a new member to our Ireland Chapter podcast crew as you’ll hear on this episode. Brantlee Underhill, Director of Chapters and Volunteers at PMI, a past guest on the show also, was my co-host for the day and she did an amazing job! Thank you Brantlee. Ok. Enough from me. Let’s get into the interviews. 1.Heather Ramsey, Manager of Academic Programs at PMI. Working with Colleges and Universities across the globe. This has been part of the PMI since its inception. It’s evolved over the years and is always looking to add new programs. She shares the benefits to the chapter and to the individuals. 2.Lynn Channon from the Chapter Member advisory group. Lynn has lost count of the number of LIM’s she’s attended and shares her learnings from the event. 3.Seam McConnell, from the Detroit Chapter of PMI. Sean shares his experience from the LIM in Dublin and has taken a ton of great ideas from the sessions he attended. 4.Monina from the France Chapter. She is the leader of the study group in the PMBOK 6th. She has been helping others learn and develop their PM skills. She shares details about the attendees the study group which helps others learn about Project Management. She shares her excitement taken from the LIM experience. The networking and growth that comes out of this role is very rewarding according to Monina.5.Jorg Glunder from PMI Southern Germany Chapter. He’s been volunteering for the last 11 years for PMI. He talks about the leadership skills he’s developed by being in this role. He became more confident and experienced. This is his 7th LIM and he’s learned so much. 6.Janet Burnes, President of the Delaware Chapter of PMI in Philadelphia. The chapter is celebrating the 40th Anniversary and they are hosting the congress in Philadelphia in October for the 50th Anniversary. Janet talks about the value she’s taking from being involved in the PMI chapters and how this has changed over the years in these positions. Staring with networking and moving to help others get better at Project Management.Hope you enjoy. If you'd like to get in touch please email me on rodonohue@pmi-ireland.orgThank you,Rob
