Sustainable practices, by definition, seek to maintain the same, whereas regenerative practices recognize that natural systems are currently impacted and it applies management techniques to restore the system to improved productivity. Regenerative and sustainable actions can use essentially the same practices, the difference is the application and the management of those tools. Farmers are faced with skyrocketing input costs, declining product efficiency and industry pressure to implement sustainable and regenerative practices. The speaker will argue that revolutionary biological products have the ability to increase input efficiency, reduce reliance on chemical products, restore soil health and enable farmers to produce higher quality crops, sustainably. Speaker: Joshua Day Chief Joshua Day Chief is Chief Executive Officer of AdvancedAg (AAG). Since 2013, he has propelled the company's growth through groundbreaking research projects that have helped redefine biological technology in the agriculture industry. Collaborating closely with dealers, suppliers, and end-users, Joshua addresses soil and water remediation with a collaborative team approach, positioning AAG as a global leader in sustainable agricultural solutions. Joshua advocates for a future where Canadian agriculture thrives sustainably. As a visionary leader, environmental advocate, and community builder, Joshua is steering AdvancedAg towards a future where innovative solutions coexist with the principles of sustainability. An unwavering advocate for environmental stewardship, Joshua's leadership extends beyond AAG. Today, I am blessed to have Dr. Thomas Seyfried here with me. Thomas N. Seyfried received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1976. He did his undergraduate work at the University of New England, where he recently received the distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. He also holds a Master's degree in Genetics from Illinois State University. Thomas Seyfried served with distinction in the United States Army's First Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War and received numerous medals and commendations. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Neurology at the Yale University School of Medicine and then served on the faculty as an Assistant Professor in Neurology. Dr. Seyfried argues that cancer is a metabolic disease, not a genetic one, and suggests that lifestyle factors play a role in its development. He highlights that if you wanted to get cancer, you would adopt a sedentary lifestyle, consume highly processed foods with long shelf lives, avoid fresh food, experience high levels of emotional stress, and deprive yourself of sleep. He notes that many people engage in these behaviors unknowingly, leading to increased rates of cancer, diabetes, obesity, and other chronic diseases. Seyfried's point is that to prevent cancer, individuals should focus on maintaining metabolic health through exercise, proper diet, stress management, and quality sleep. Dr. Seyfried highlights that the current medical understanding of cancer is rooted in the idea that it is a genetic disease, a concept taught in medical schools and upheld by oncologists. These professionals are trained to use traditional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation, focusing on managing toxicity rather than addressing the root cause. Seyfried argues that cancer is a metabolic disease driven by glucose and glutamine, but this crucial information is missing from training. He emphasizes the need for metabolic therapy, which targets the fuels cancer cells depend on while keeping healthy cells thriving, notably through ketosis. He expresses frustration at the medical community's resistance to acknowledging this approach despite mounting evidence that metabolic interventions could starve cancer cells and slow tumor growth. Tune in as Dr. Seyfried explains that while animals are hardwired to eat for survival, humans, with conscious awareness, can override this instinct, which can lead to disorders like anorexia. He highlights that modern diets, full of processed carbohydrates and fats, are far removed from what our ancestors ate, causing health issues like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Additionally, he critiques the financial burden of cancer treatments, calling the system immoral, especially for the economically disadvantaged. A Small Voice: Conversations With Photographers

Edward Burtynsky is regarded as one of the world's most accomplished contemporary photographers. His remarkable photographic depictions of global industrial landscapes represent over 40 years of his dedication to bearing witness to the impact of human industry on the planet. Edward's photographs are included in the collections of over 80 major museums around the world, including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa; the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York; the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid; the Tate Modern in London, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California.Edward was born in 1955 of Ukrainian heritage in St. Catharines, Ontario. He received his BAA in Photography/Media Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in 1982, and has since received both an Alumni Achievement Award (2004) and an Honorary Doctorate (2007) from his alma mater. He is still actively involved in the university community, and sits on the board of directors for The Image Centre (formerly Ryerson Image Centre). In 1985, Edward founded Toronto Image Works, a darkroom rental facility, custom photo laboratory, digital imaging, and new media computer-training centre catering to all levels of Toronto's art community.Early exposure to the General Motors plant and watching ships go by in the Welland Canal in Edward's hometown helped capture his imagination for the scale of human creation, and to formulate the development of his photographic work. His imagery explores the collective impact we as a species are having on the surface of the planet — an inspection of the human systems we've imposed onto natural landscapes.Exhibitions include: Anthropocene (2018) at the Art Gallery of Ontario and National Gallery of Canada (international touring exhibition); Water (2013) at the New Orleans Museum of Art and Contemporary Art Center in Louisiana (international touring exhibition); Oil (2009) at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. (five-year international touring show), China (toured internationally from 2005 - 2008); Manufactured Landscapes at the National Gallery of Canada (toured from 2003 - 2005); and Breaking Ground produced by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography (toured from 1988 - 1992). Edward's visually compelling works are currently being exhibited in solo and group exhibitions around the globe, including at London's Saatchi Gallery where his largest solo exhibition to-date, entitled Extraction/Abstraction, is currently on show until 6th May 2024.Edward's distinctions include the inaugural TED Prize (which he shared with Bono and Robert Fischell), the title of Officer of the Order of Canada, and the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award for Art. In 2018 Edward was named Photo London's Master of Photography and the Mosaic Institute's Peace Patron. In 2019 he was the recipient of the Arts & Letters Award at the Canadian Association of New York's annual Maple Leaf Ball and the 2019 Lucie Award for Achievement in Documentary Photography. In 2020 he was awarded a Royal Photographic Society Honorary Fellowship and in 2022 was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award by the World Photography Organization. Most recently he was inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame and was named the 2022 recipient for the annual Pollution Probe Award. Edward currently holds eight honorary doctorate degrees and is represented by numerous international galleries all over the world. In episode 224, Edward discusses, among other things:His transition from film to digitalStaying positive by ‘moving through grief to land on meaning'Making compelling images and how scale creates ambiguityDefining the over-riding theme of his work early onThe environmental impact of farmingWhether he planned his careerWhy he started a lab to finance his photographyAnd how being an entrepreneur feeds into his work as an artistVertical IntegrationExamples of challenging situations he has facedThe necessity for his work to be commoditisedHis relative hope and optimism for the future through positive technologyThe importance of having a hopeful component to the workHow he offsets his own carbon footprint Referenced:Joel SternfeldEliiot PorterStephen ShoreJennifer BaichwalNicholas de Pencier Website | Instagram“The evocation of the sense of wonder and the sense of the surreal, or the improbable, or ‘what am I looking at?', to me is interesting in a time where images are so consumed; that these are not for quick consumption they're for… slow. Amanda describes the experience as, “the biggest moment of my gymnastics career and one of the biggest moments in women's gymnastics history.” Amanda proved herself to be a steady and consistent gymnast from the start of her training at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy. Her talent and ability led her to be named to the National Team six times and the World Championship Team three times, eventually reaching the pinnacle of her career as Team Captain of the history making, 1996 Gold Medal Olympic Team.  USA Gymnastics also named Amanda Sportswoman of the Year in 1995. After the 1996 Gold Medal win, Amanda appeared in numerous national tours and television appearances and was featured on the Wheaties Cereal Box.  She graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University with a degree in elementary education. She was honored by Arizona State University with the Alumni Achievement Award for her success and contributions in business and the community.  As the owner of Gold Medal Gymnastics Academy, with two locations in Tempe and Chandler Arizona, Borden has combined her educational training with her athletic expertise and continues to serve as a gymnastics and cheerleading commentator for CBS Sports, Fox Sports, ESPN, NBC and the PAC-12 Network. While proud of her past, Borden says her focus now is on the next generation of athletes: “My goal is to touch the lives of children all across Arizona to help them reach their goals, whatever they may be”. In addition, Amanda is a member of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame and US Olympic Hall of Fame. Most recently, she won an Emmy Award for her coverage and color commentary of NCAA gymnastics. In this week's episode of "Pushing the Limits I had the privilege of interview world renown cancer researcher Professor Thomas Seyfried the author of over 150 peer reviewed publications and the author of the book "Cancer as a Metabolic Disease"   For 30 years Professor Seyfried has been in the trenches as a geneticist and biochemist studying cancer cells and working out the intricacies of how to stop them proliferating. He says there are two primary fuels that cancer cells use in their abhorrent metabolism, Glucose and Glutamine and that if we can cut the fuel supply of these two things to the cancer cells we have a powerful non toxic way of killing cancer cells. He and colleagues designed the Press-pulse: a novel therapeutic strategy for the metabolic management of cancer and in this interview we dive into his latest research and what you can do if you have cancer or want to lower your chances of getting cancer.   If you enjoyed this episodes make sure to check out our Ebook/Interview series "What Your Oncologist isn't telling you" Ebook  with 20 world leading experts on this approach and adjunct therapies.   People can donate to Professor Seyfried's crucial work via this link the https://foundationformetaboliccancertherapies.com/   Dr Thomas Seyfried Bio Thomas N. Is There A Greater Risk Of Brain Cancer From Cell Phone Use For Younger People? Dr. Thomas Seyfried, • Contact: thomas.seyfried@bc.edu • Book – Cancer as a Metabolic Disease #ThomasSeyfried#Cancer #MetabolicDisease Dr. Thomas Seyfried, is a professor and author publishing a groundbreaking book; Cancer as a Metabolic Disease: On the Origin, Management, and Prevention of Cancer. This book addresses controversies related to the origins of cancer and provides solutions to cancer management and prevention. It expands upon Otto Warburg's well-known theory that all cancer is a disease of energy metabolism.  However, Warburg did not link his theory to the "hallmarks of cancer" and thus his theory was discredited.  This book aims to provide evidence, through case studies, that cancer is primarily a metabolic disease requiring metabolic solutions for its management and prevention.  Support for this position is derived from critical assessment of current cancer theories.  Brain cancer case studies are presented as a proof of principle for metabolic solutions to disease management, but similarities are drawn to other types of cancer, including breast and colon, due to the same cellular mutations that they demonstrate. The book also provides extensive information showing that cancer can be best defined as a mitochondrial metabolic disease rather than as a genetic disease. This new concept has implications for the development of new non-toxic cancer therapies including the ketogenic diet. Experts in the cancer research field have praised this comprehensive study as one of science's hottest topics. Dr. Thomas Seyfried received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana. Evidence That Challenges The Somatic Mutation Theory Of Cancer Dr. How do you host a pet loss memorial service? Living in a ‘death avoidance' society, many are uncomfortable with the idea of facing death and the passing of a pet. As pet sitters, we can position ourselves as leaders in the community of hurting people who have lost their pets. We can create safe spaces for them to grieve and find others to support them in their mourning work. Coleen Ellis, founder of the Two Hearts Pet Loss Center, joins the show to share what it takes to put on an effective pet loss memorial service. She gives details on elements you can include, and ones to avoid. Main topics What should we call it? Why are they needed? Typical structure Growing the community Things to avoid Main takeaway: Hosting a pet loss memorial events helps people in your community understand that the grief we have is the price we have for love, and that there is support for them. About our guest: For Coleen, her foray into helping grieving pet lovers started in 1998 with a chance encounter with a pet parent facing the death of her beloved pet. It was the beginning of a vision of how to best meet the needs of pet parents in their desire to mourn, memorialize and pay tribute to their beloved pets when they die. In 2004, the experience of the death of Mico guided her in starting the nation's first stand-alone pet funeral home. Soon, publications such as Kates-Boylston's Pet Loss Insider deemed her the “most well known pet funeral director” and a true “pet loss pioneer.” Two Hearts Pet Loss Center was founded in 2009 to guide people who wished to do the same in providing meaningful pet death care services in their communities. Two Hearts was also started to aid in being an educational resource in the pet grief discipline. In 2009, she received the first Death and Grief Studies Certification specializing in Pet Loss Companioning by Dr. Alan Wolfelt as well as releasing her first book, Pet Parents: A Journey Through Unconditional Love and Grief. She is also Certified in Thanatology and is a Certified Pet Loss Professional. By 2014, Coleen was ready to take her vision to a new level. Joining Nick Padlo as managing partner and Chief Marketing Officer, they formed an acquisition company whose mission was to standardize and raise the service levels of the pet loss industry. The Pet Loss Center strives to be the nation's premier pet loss service, elevating the experiential component of pet loss and grief care across the country. In 2019, she shifted her position with The Pet Loss Center to an Advisory/Consultant role in order to focus more fully on Two Hearts and those demanding education, mentoring, and coaching in the pet death care space. Coleen is an internationally sought-after speaker on the topics of pet loss and grief. Through her delivery style, pet care professionals learn a variety of techniques immediately applicable to implement on how to companion families in their grief journey. Furthermore, her talks to pet parents give them the permission they need to not only grieve but mourn the loss of their beloved pet. Coleen is the founder and past co-chair of the Pet Loss Professionals Alliance and past president of the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care, where she currently serves as an advisor. She is a native of Kansas where she graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. She currently sits on the Board of Trustees for Fort Hays State University, and is a recipient of the 2018 Alumni Achievement Award, the college's highest recognition for graduates. Dallas, TX, is where Coleen and her husband, Chris Burke, reside. It's there are parts of it that are year round. But by the time we get to this time of year, we kind of can't believe that it's already around the corner. And we have some really exciting things planned. So I'm really looking forward to it. I know a lot of other people are too.   James Bell  Yeah, yeah, it's always a good time. And I know, you know, COVID kind of changed some things, you guys introduced some virtual events, and that seemed to go over really well just, you know, as we were having to deal with that, but a lot of back to normal kind of stuff. Um, you know, oh, my goodness, look at the list of thing. No, lots of stuff going on. Yeah, you want to give us some highlights?   Carolyn Tatro  Yes. So first of all, we had a record sell out of the golf tournament. So the golf tournament is currently sold out. It's one of our most popular events throughout the three days, which by the way, before I forget, October 6, seventh, and eighth is what we're talking about here for our alumni homecoming events, the golf tournament sold out in five days, which record for us. So we're excited about that. But we, we know a lot of people didn't get into it, but we you know, give us a call and we want to talk to you about it. Because there's a lot of other things that you can do lunch with Coach Brown is also happening that afternoon, which the golfers can participate in because it's during lunch. So we want people to come and have lunch with football coach, Chris Brown and and learn a little bit about game day routines, and learn about the team, that kind of stuff. So that'll be a really exciting event as well. And then I know later that evening, we'll have the bonfire. Hopefully Weather permitting knock on wood was a great event last year. So hopefully we'll get to do the bonfire again.   James Bell  You guys do that right there to the the west of the Alumni Center, right   Carolyn Tatro  right next to the Robins.   James Bell  The one that always floods.   Carolyn Tatro  Hopefully we're you know, we're again, month away. We'll see what happens. But the bonfire is always a big event when we get to do it. So yeah, very fun. Yeah. And then lots of exciting things planned for Friday. And we have a rather exciting slate of award recipients this year, our homecoming awards are always, you know, a really big deal. There are some of the most distinguished alums that we get to celebrate. And Friday is sort of the the big day to do that Friday and Saturday, we get to have lots of events to celebrate these award winners. So looking forward to that have people from all over the place that I'm looking forward to meeting in person, some really fascinating individuals that I think people want to meet.   James Bell  Yeah, for sure. You want to tell us maybe what some of those awards are? I know, I've seen them year after year, but I'm drawing a blank. Yes.   Carolyn Tatro  So we have four awards that we honor at homecoming. One is the Alumni Achievement Award is sort of the most prestigious for our alums via NIDA, Landrum and distinguished service awards are some of the others. This year, we are honoring four Alumni Achievement Award recipients and two Young Alumni Award recipients. So we've got alumni achievement, and NIDA Landrum Distinguished Service and young alum. And the this year, we have four alumni achievement, and two young alum award recipients. So very exciting people.   James Bell  Cool. Cool. Yeah, I'm gonna talk more about these events. But I am curious, like, how do those folks get selected? You guys drop out a hat or is there a vote   Carolyn Tatro  there. So we have a nomination process that takes place, December, I read around December in January, we open it up for about a month, but people are sending us names year round, you know, oh, I met so and so who's doing some really cool things that you guys need to know about. So we do collect names pretty much year round. Our Alumni Board has a committee that reviews these nominations. And then based on specific criteria, we they select who they believe should be the standout award winners for the coming year. So the selection is usually made end of January, sometime in February. So a lot of us are sitting on this secret for several months before we finally announced them in the summer.   James Bell  I can tell by your face. You know who they are?   Carolyn Tatro  Oh, yes, yeah. And we know we, we know who they are for a long time. And we usually release, we put out the press release in the summer. So, you know, it's it's maybe six months before we get to tell the public about it. But um, yeah, they're out there. And I think some people are very excited about who we get to celebrate this year. Very cool.   James Bell  Very cool. Well, moving back into some of these events. I mean, that's gonna be fun. That's again on Friday. I had it open in the morning, Friday morning, but lots of stuff going on that Friday afternoon night, right?   Carolyn Tatro  Yes, that's right. So Friday morning, we will have a meet and greet for these award recipients now I should say. So John Allen, who is a world renowned journalist in Rome, he will be unable to join us but we're So excited to celebrate him. And also Mike McCarthy, who's the current head football coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He's a little busy right now. So he's not going to be able to do it because I know he's he's got some things going on. But we're really excited the meet and greet will involve Judy billings, who's a lifelong nurse educator, Don Richardson, who's also a lifelong educator been teaching for more than 50 years. Tory blue, who is the current House Majority Whip in Topeka. She's great Ben native ran for office before she even graduated from Fort Hays, and then Brandon Penny, who I'm very excited to meet great creative mind doing some really cool things in New York for Saks Fifth Avenue. So it's, those four individuals will be at the meet and greet. And there'll be at the Alumni and Friends awards banquet on Friday evening, as well. So just a couple of different opportunities to meet them on Friday, they'll be doing some presentations in classes, mostly from the departments that they graduated from, but opportunities to speak to students, and then we get to celebrate them in the parade on saturday as well. So get to spend some time with them this week, that weekend.   James Bell  I love that. And you know, it's always so amazing to me. The I mean, obviously, we have a large number of alumni out there doing amazing things, but it always seems like you guys are finding new ones that you know, maybe the general public doesn't know or people that left years ago, and they're doing amazing things internationally. You're on the coasts. Yeah. And it's like an endless supply of amazing four days long.   Carolyn Tatro  I'm telling you even just yesterday, there were a couple people who came up to me and said, Did you know that so and so has a connection to Fort Hays? And it's, it's really cool to see some of these names that you're right, we just we don't always know that they have the connection to Fort Hays. And that's why we like to celebrate them with some of these awards, because it's just a really exciting time our community gets to see how connected we are to some people that are doing some really amazing things out in the world.   James Bell  Yeah, very cool. And to be able to celebrate and bring everybody together, or almost everybody in this case and, and hang out and get to meet those individuals. What a cool experience.   Carolyn Tatro  Yep. So a lot of those events, you can check out the full list of our events at fhsu homecoming.com. Now, I will say that is the website for our alumni events. There's a lot of other stuff happening happening on campus that week of Homecoming. So make sure you check out the fhsu website as well, but fhsu homecoming.com. A lot of the events that I've mentioned already, you do have to pre register for, but you can do that through September 29. So you still have a couple of weeks to do that. But we were very excited. And yeah, I can't contain it. Honestly, this is one of my favorite, favorite times of the year, just getting ready for all this and then watching it all come together and and seeing people come to the events is just a really great time.   James Bell  Yeah, I bet because I mean, you guys have to plan this for such a long time. There's so many moving pieces, and especially when with your events, and then the university events you got a whole has to coordinate together and to some degree and so many people make this event how happened it just you know, everybody gets together have a great time. But there's a lot of work in the behind the scenes.   Carolyn Tatro  That's right, and we participate with Oktoberfest as well. We're going to have an Oktoberfest tent out there, come out, meet people, you know, if you're meeting up with a group of friends, our tent will be a great place to do that. Sit down, enjoy the delicious food and the atmosphere will be out there both days too. So again, something happening pretty much every day, Thursday, Friday, Saturday through a homecoming so yeah, on on all the time.   James Bell  And Oktoberfest you also know that's separate, but it's the same. And it brings a lot of people to town to do that. But while you're there, come make the connection to Fort Hays, where you connect with Fort Hays and go check out the bit like if you've been on campus, holy smokes, it still boggles my mind. How much has changed even from the time that we were there, which was, you know, we're pushing in almost a decade, I think since we both graduated, but so much activity, physical activities there. And it's just, it's still it's great. It looks amazing. But it's different. And it's it's a it's fun to explore even I think some of those new facilities and buildings   Carolyn Tatro  it is. And we do offer, you know, we offer the opportunity for people to take tours of campus while they're out there as well. Even some of our awardees that I've talked to on the phone, I haven't been to campus in a long time is there going to be a chance for me to see, you know, this such and such new building or my building has been renovated since I was there. So you know, things are changing all the time. And they still are and so yeah, this is another just a great time for people to come see how things are different on campus and all the cool things that we get to do out there. Absolutely.   James Bell  Well, Carolyn, I tell you, we've got just about a minute left last thoughts or anything else you think that folks need to know before we go?   Carolyn Tatro  Well, again, just check out fhsu homecoming.com. We really encourage people to pre register for some of these events because they are going to fill up again lunch with Coach Brown on Thursday afternoon. So that will be October 6 That noon. Again, something we don't get to do all the time. So come and have lunch with the football coach Chris Brown, and then sign up for our alum. I award events as well. So you can meet some of these really cool people we have coming to town, September 29. That is the deadline for a lot of our registered events. Don't   James Bell  wait. Don't get you know what happens when you have a deadline like that. Always for me, people wait   Carolyn Tatro  till the day I wait till the deadline is right. Don't wait till the deadline, get it out, get   James Bell  your computer listening to us and probably at work. So go ahead and just take a minute to lock out. Get it in do it now. Yeah, no, it'd be a good time and hopefully you get a great turnout. And you know, I'll be around I always am.   Carolyn Tatro  Yeah, absolutely. And everybody, give us a call if anybody has questions, lots of stuff happening. So we want to be able to point you in the right direction.

Professor Thomas Seyfried has published over 150 peer reviewed studies in biology and cancer biology and has verified Nobel Prize Winner Otto Warburg's assertation that cancer is a metabolic disease of the mitochondria, not a genetic disorder. If we misunderstand the origin of the disease, the treatment is going to be wrong as well, and this is exactly what has happened. Ever think about why the cancer rates have tripled in the past 40 years? Well, this is why. Other awards and honors have come from such diverse organizations as the American Oil Chemists Society, the National Institutes of Health, The American Society for Neurochemistry, the Ketogenic Diet Special Interest Group of the American Epilepsy Society, the Academy of Comprehensive and Complementary Medicine, and the American College of Nutrition. Dr. Seyfried previously served as Chair, Scientific Advisory Committee for the National Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases Association and presently serves on several editorial boards, including those for Nutrition & Metabolism, Neurochemical Research, the Journal of Lipid Research, and ASN Neuro, where he is a Senior Editor. Traditionally, security and privacy research focused mostly on technical mechanisms and was based on the naive assumptions that Alice and Bob were capable, attentive, and willing to jump through any number of hoops to communicate securely. However, about 20 years ago that started to change when a seminal paper asked "Why Johnny Can't Encrypt" and called for usability evaluations and usable design strategies for security. Today a substantial body of interdisciplinary literature exists on usability evaluations and design strategies for both security and privacy. Nonetheless, it is still difficult for most people to encrypt their email, manage their passwords, and configure their social network privacy settings. In this talk I will highlight some of the lessons learned from the past 20 years of usable privacy and security research, and explore where the field might be headed. About the speaker: Lorrie Faith Cranor is the Director and Bosch Distinguished Professor in Security and Privacy Technologies of CyLab and the FORE Systems Professor of Computer Science and of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. She also directs the CyLab Usable Privacy and Security Laboratory (CUPS) and co-directs the MSIT-Privacy Engineering masters program. In 2016 she served as Chief Technologist at the US Federal Trade Commission. She is also a co-founder of Wombat Security Technologies, Inc, a security awareness training company that was acquired by Proofpoint. She has authored over 200 research papers on online privacy, usable security, and other topics. She has played a key role in building the usable privacy and security research community, having co-edited the seminal book Security and Usability and founded the Symposium On Usable Privacy and Security (SOUPS). She has served on a number of boards and working groups, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation Board of Directors, the Computing Research Association Board of Directors, and the Aspen Institute Cybersecurity Group. Every artist has an epiphany. For classically-trained, award winning pianist Richard Glazier, it happened at age nine, when he saw the film “Girl Crazy” with a score by George & Ira Gershwin.  So excited was he by the music he heard, Glazier was prompted to write a fan letter to famed lyricist Ira Gershwin. After corresponding with each other for three years, Gershwin invited his young friend, then 12 to meet him in Beverly Hills. During their visit Ira asked Glazier to play a Gershwin tune on the piano that once belonged to his brother legendary composer George Gershwin.  Fueled by Ira's encouragement and interest, Glazier dedicated himself that very day to the Gershwin repertoire and the American Popular Songbook, eventually becoming one of the genre's leading authorities..Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Glazier began studying piano when he was 6 years old. Trained in the classics, Glazier earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Piano Performance from Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington, where he studied with famed pianist and teacher, Menaham Pressler, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Music. In addition to Ira Gershwin's blessings, Glazier has received the Alumni Achievement Award from the Cleveland Institute of Music for his contributions to the American Popular Song.  He also won several major international piano competitions including the Pro Musicis International Award and the National Federation of Music Clubs' Grand Prize.  He also was selected as a Steinway Artist.Glazier's concerts have inspired two national television specials: "From Gershwin to Garland A Musical Journey With Richard Glazier, which was broadcast on PBS stations throughout the country in 2010&  "From Ragtime to Reel Time Richard Glazier in Concert, which starts airing on PBS stations in March 2012.
