Luke 19:45-48 - Remembering the Sacrifice for Freedom

Today is Memorial Day. Have you ever noticed we don't say“Happy Memorial Day”? During Christmas time we might say, “Merry Christmas” or “happyholidays” and so forth as we celebrate the season. But we don't celebrate MemorialDay. Memorial Day is not a day to be happy; it's a day to remember the greatsacrifice many made so that we might live in a free country.  Itrust today that you'll take time to remember that freedom is not free. Overone million people in our country paid the price of giving their own lives. They made the ultimate sacrifice. “Greater love has no man than this, than aman lay down his life for his friends.” These people laid down their lives fortheir friends, their family, their country, and their God.  Americais a great place to live. With all the problems, difficulties, divisions, andstrife we might have, it's still the greatest place on planet Earth that Godhas blessed us with to be citizens in and live in. The freedom we enjoy is notfree; a great price was paid for it. We need to remember that today. Today takethe time to go to a memorial service. I'll be going to one this morning withsome local veterans and active military guys right here in my own neighborhood. There are other services in your community that you can choose to attend. Please,in some way today, remember and take time to honor those who died for ourfreedom. If you know someone or a family that gave a son or daughter to serviceand maybe sacrificed their life, give them a call. You can let them know you'rethinking about them today. You can pray for them, and take that time toremember. It'sinteresting to note how this ties in to what we are studying here we are inLuke chapter 19. Jesus has already told us that He has come to seek and to savethat which was lost. For Jesus to seek and to save that which was lost, He hadto die. He had to die on an old rugged cross. He had to pay the ultimatesacrifice. He had to lay down His life for His friends, and He did that for youand for me.  Oh,my friend, what a great sacrifice Jesus made. Did you ever think of thedifference between the sacrifice Jesus made, and the soldiers and those in ourmilitary made as they laid down their lives for our country. Yes they made theultimate sacrifice for our freedom. But what kind of freedom is that? Thefreedom to live in homes we want to live in, work jobs we want to work, gowhere we want to go, travel as we like to travel. We're free to choose ourvocations. There are so many things we are free to do.  ButJesus didn't die to set us free to do what we want to do. Jesus died to set usfree to be able to do what we ought to do!  And that is to live a life that honors, glorifies, and pleases Him and to enjoy the fullness of life—eternal life, Godliving within us. Oh, my friend, Jesus paid that sacrifice so we could be freefrom the guilt, the shame, the penalty, and the power of sin over us! We areset free by His sacrifice to do what is right and good. We are free to forgive othersbecause we have been forgiven! We're looking at Luke 19, the very last verses of the chapter.Thisis interesting, and we'll talk more about this tomorrow, but I believe this istaking place on Monday morning. Remember, on Sunday morning, Jesus rode intoJerusalem on a colt, a donkey, and as He rode in, the people celebrated, cheeredand yelled, “Hosanna in the Highest.” Jesus wept over the city. And then Jesusgoes back to Bethany where He spends the night. The next morning, Mondaymorning, Jesus goes into the temple to cleanse it. Just like we have ourproblems in America today, they had their problems in Jerusalem in those days.Jesus denounced the wickedness and the evil of the religious leaders who wereusing the temple to make money. Oh, my friend, not much has changed over theyears. We will talk more about this tomorrow.

Published in 1903, Gawayne and the Green Knight is a modern-language retelling of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a 14th-century verse romance following a young knight of the Round Table. During Christmas celebrations, a mysterious, entirely green knight presents a challenge to King Arthur's court: that any may strike the stranger a single blow with his green axe, provided he assent to receiving the same a year later. Gawayne accepts the challenge, and its unexpected outcome leads to a great test of his courage and knighthood. A significant addition to this version is the Lady Elfinhart, whose back-story and romance with Gawayne are tightly interwoven with the plot. Translated by Charlton Miner Lewis.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

During Christmas of 1944, American soldiers were dug in against the Germans. The dark, frozen Belgian forest added to the bleak atmosphere. Morale was low, ammo was low, and food supplies were low.But just when things looked the worst, General Patton's Third Army showed up almost out of nowhere. The men who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and survived remembered many things about that strangest of Christmas holidays.Mostly they remembered the first hot food they'd had in six weeks! The steaming coffee overflowed. The bounty and some rest prepared them to win that battle, and then—the war.Psalm 23:5 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”That's the way life often works. Your back is to the wall, and then God shows up. The reinforcements appear suddenly. The Holy Spirit lifts you up—mind, body, and soul. He feeds us with spiritual nourishment so that we can fight back against evil and prevail. Our cup…overflows. If you're in a war, don't give up. It might not feel like it right here in the moment, but God is coming.Let's pray.Lord, you are always with us and that is just one thing that makes you unique. We cannot live without you. In you, we thrive. It's in Your name we pray, amen.Change your shirt, and you can change the world! During Christmas time in the midst of a conversation with a family friend, I mentioned how I wanted to work the same amount of time I work now and make WAYYYY more money.    She laughed a little like as if wanting to say "well, wouldn't that be nice!". Her reaction to this was like I was a bit crazy and it's not possible.    Then I gave her real life examples of people creating exponential quantum leap type growth in their business. Women I follow in the online space tripling their business's income in a year. Women making multi-millions of dollars working part time hours with their kids.    I could see her mind starting to open up and shift a little bit more.    It can be easy sometimes to buy into other people's opinions about what we want to with our life.    I'm sure you've been there at some point where you open up to someone about an idea or goal you have: whether it be creating a new business, switching careers, making more money, working while raising kids, travel dreams, lifestyle dreams.   And their reaction or comments about what you've shared creates a bit of doubt or deflation in you.   When this happens we can sometimes second guess ourselves, lower our dreams and expectations, or feel a bit frozen in indecision.    Sometimes people sit for so long on big ideas or changes because of the doubt that was instilled in them from others.    First I want you to remember - no one else can actually do this to you. No one else actually has the power to make you doubt yourself, to feel deflated, or to make you second guess yourself.   We are in control of taking outside information in (other people's opinions) - and deciding what we want to do this that information.   And so in this episode I want to share a few useful perspectives on how we can approach receiving opinions from other people about our goals and dreams that are not in our favor.

Break 1: MOG   STORY 1: PCOM Georgia and Gwinnett County Public Schools work together to help STEM students Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) and PCOM Georgia collaborate on STEM opportunities for Gwinnett students. The partnership began in 2004 when GCPS purchased a facility near PCOM Georgia. The college sponsors the Gwinnett Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair, with faculty and staff serving on the advisory board. PCOM Georgia participates in events like Principal for a Day and the STAR Student luncheon, enhancing community engagement. The college offers career fairs and programs like Opportunities Academy, Summer STEM Saturdays, and Future Healthcare Scholars to introduce high school students to healthcare professions. The collaboration extends to faculty involvement, capstone projects, and admissions outreach.   STORY 2: Helping Hand: Gwinnett Woman Forms Nonprofit To Support Cancer Patients Bobbie Menneg, a breast cancer survivor of 12 years, founded Beyond the Ribbon to provide support, encouragement, and hope to cancer patients. The Lawrenceville-based nonprofit offers assistance through various programs, including Jane's Closet (a food pantry), Pat's Pillows & Pouches (providing pillows, drain pouches, and seat belt cushions), and Chloe & Friends (supporting family pets). During Christmas, Beyond the Ribbon adopts families, fulfilling wish lists and distributing grocery store gift cards. Menneg organizes creative fundraising events, including golf tournaments, 5K races, car shows, and recent events like "Rainbows, Reindeers & Wishes" and "Bingo & Beyond." The nonprofit aims to bring joy to cancer families during challenging times.   STORY 3: Good problem for General Assembly: What to do with surplus? The 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly, starting with a $16 billion budget surplus, is expected to address various long-debated issues. The state's surplus and $11 billion undesignated funds will be a focal point of discussions, determining spending priorities. Governor Brian Kemp proposed accelerating the state income tax cut and additional spending, including one-time pay supplements for state employees and teachers. Legislative Republicans are likely to push for private school vouchers, while tort reform and legalized gambling, particularly sports betting, are also on the agenda. Transportation funding and potential Medicaid expansion discussions are expected during the session.   We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back. Break 2: GCPS – TOM WAGES –INGLES 5   STORY 4: UGA retention, completion rates remain strong The University of Georgia (UGA) achieved a nearly 95% first-year retention rate for first-time freshmen, showcasing the success of efforts to enhance the academic environment and support students. The university's six-year completion rate maintained a record high of 88%, and the four-year completion rate indicated that almost three-quarters of UGA students graduate within four years. UGA's retention and completion rates continue to surpass those of its peer institutions, reflecting a decade-long commitment to initiatives such as the Active Learning Initiative, faculty hiring programs, academic advisor expansion, tutoring, mentorship, and peer-learning programs. The university's focus on data-driven student success strategies contributes to its ongoing improvement.   STORY 5: Georgia lawmakers to again consider Okefenokee mining ban Georgia lawmakers are preparing to address the contentious issue of a proposed mine near the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge as the legislative session begins. Twin Pines, an Alabama-based company, aims to mine minerals, including titanium dioxide, near the Okefenokee, raising concerns about potential environmental harm. House Bill 71, currently before the legislature, seeks to protect the Okefenokee by prohibiting new mining permits within the area. Although the bill did not progress last year, supporters are optimistic about its chances this time. Opponents are also exploring other avenues, including pressuring companies not to purchase products from a mine near the refuge.   We'll be back in a moment.   Break 3:  ESOG – DTL   STORY 6: New robotic device improves walking for Parkinson's patients Scientists from Harvard and Boston University have developed a wearable robotic device to help people with Parkinson's disease walk without "freezing" or stumbling. The device is a robotic garment worn around the hips and thighs, providing a gentle push to the hips as the legs swing, allowing wearers to achieve a longer stride and walk faster and further. In trials, the garment eliminated freezing episodes in participants with Parkinson's. The technology offers a potential solution to one of the major contributors to falls in people with Parkinson's, as existing treatments are not highly effective.   STORY 7: Psychedelic plant successfully treats war vets' traumatic brain injuries: study A study by researchers at Stanford University explored the potential of ibogaine, a naturally occurring compound found in the roots of the African shrub iboga, to alleviate symptoms of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) in war veterans. Ibogaine, a psychedelic plant, was found to significantly improve functioning, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety in veterans with TBIs. The research team worked with 30 special-ops veterans with a history of TBIs, and the results indicated immediate and lasting improvements in various areas. However, the use of ibogaine is restricted in the United States due to its classification as a Schedule I-controlled substance.   We'll have final thoughts after this.   Break 4: Henssler 60   Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post podcast. New Episode of Glitter Ledger; Season 3 Episode 1. Happy New Year or whatever- here's to restorative healing and excess cash with Andra Nicolau. Here's what I know. For Dry January I am off my self-prescribed mixture of Prozac and Viagra and am thus in rare form.  During Christmas holiday in between #Eigenlayer and misery, I posted a thirsty photo of myself in a trophy wife one piece off the coast of Sidi Bou Said with my squad of Solana Berachain NFT semi college educated contemporaries changing the financial system and banking the unfortunate and ugly and or unbanked one Smoky Bear Bored Ape at a time. It's clear I struggle with my vapid journey of finding financial freedom outside my alimony. Alas, dare I ask.. are there really funds outside of my low tier JP Morgan Private Banker's advice and put options placed on Robinhood whilst high on meth(amphetamines)? Is it REALLY possible that alternative earnings exist within #DecentralizedFinance that will allow me to maintain the lifestyle to which I am accustomed? T-B-DAY. I digress; Andra and I met many years ago at a White House Gala during the brief but deeply influential; political stint of Lord Mooch when he served as Director of Communications. His departure was a critical error in American History's time that will be studied for years to come. While I would eat glass for any of the Trump family members, this was a grave mistake but I and God forgive.Enough about me. I immediately noticed Andra's incredibly crazy cool icy sexy Eastern European demeanor and could tell she was well bred due to her posture, handbag thread count, and her indifference amongst US A-List politicians. Andra and I are quite different though, she is a University of California, Berkeley math aficionado whereas I am trying to bedazzle the blockchain and solve the #PythagoreanTheorem Andra speaks a plethora of languages including solidity and throughout this conversation we covered her career colorful global career highlighting her stint at 1inch which is better than it sounds re performance, all the way to the tippity top of where she is now. Serving as the head of BD and Strategy at Origin ProtocolAt Origin, one can earn even more yield on top of one's yield #oETH. I probed her incessantly on how she deals with being incredibility hot in a male dominated field in sea of deranged tech bro wannabe Winklevoss Musks who cant find your you know what or give you a properraise. Ipso facto, this convo was a phenomenal way to start out the new year, even if I'm dry.. everywhere. Andra is not afraid of trusting smart contract security instead of or alongside your low tier JP Morgan Banker, the cutthroat competitive albeit entertaining cult of women in web3 and letting go of the wildly unnecessary self doubt and negative talk. I wish for you dear what Andra gave me; the fearlessness to be myself and speak my truth as phony and pretentious as I very well may be. #GlitterLedger #OriginProtocol #WomenInDeFi #WellReadWellBred

Recently I had some conversations with members from my Facebook group who, after enduring narcissistic abuse, struggle with feelings of unattractiveness and unworthiness due to their single status. In this episode, I dispel the misconception that our value is tied to our romantic relationships. I hope this episode helps you to discover and embrace your intrinsic self-worth, independent of others' opinions or actions. What you will learn in this episode: How to take ownership of our own life and feelings. Understanding where self-worth comes from and not allowing others to control how we feel. What you can expect from this podcast next year. During Christmas, it's common to feel a deep sense of worthlessness and loneliness, especially after leaving a narcissistic relationship. Many of us, particularly in our middle years, fear that we're destined to remain single forever. I've been there too. But this belief is often just a self-defense mechanism to avoid falling for another narcissist. The truth is, we all have value, regardless of our relationship status. In this episode, I share my own journey to illustrate how you can recognize your own worth and, if you choose, find love again, no matter where you are in life. The coronation of a new monarch in the United Kingdom has always been an impressive event. Crowds gather to catch a glimpse of the joyous occasion, which begins with a 1.3-mile procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey. About 400 million people around the globe viewed the broadcast of the most recent coronation. Jesus was also greeted as King by the crowds when He entered the city of Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. People pushed forward to catch a glimpse of Jesus' arrival. They were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the king of Israel!” (v. 12). As Jesus entered the city, He found a young donkey to ride on, a symbol that a new king was being installed in Israel (vv. 14–15). It is helpful to observe the crowd's reaction to this processional. The common people of the day recognized and accepted the fact that Jesus was worthy to be established as their King. They didn't understand exactly what that would mean, but they were willing to submit to it. The religious leaders, on the other hand, rejected Jesus. They wanted to put a quick end to the praising of Jesus (v. 19). The disciples were observant, but they didn't fully understand what was happening (v. 16). It wasn't until after Jesus was glorified that His disciples realized what they had experienced. Fortunately, we have the advantage of hindsight. As we look back on this event on the other side of the Cross and Resurrection, we know that Jesus is our risen King. >> During Christmas, we picture Jesus as a baby. While that is a part of His story, it is not the complete picture. Let's take some time today to worship and give thanks to King Jesus. “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him” (Matt. 2:2).See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jenifer Rosenberg OBE has enjoyed a life of incredible opportunity and hard fought success. She was the founder of the UK's largest privately owned clothing manufacturer after a career at Marks & Spencer during the roaring 60's. She voted Veuve Clicquot Woman of the Year and today is the Chair of the Board of The Heart Cells Foundation. This episode focuses on three key stages of Jenifer's life. By her own admission she was never an academic but excited to leave school and seek opportunity within the creative field. Marks & Spencer offered her a job in the post room which whilst not very exciting, it provided Jenifer the chance to prove herself even at the tender age of 16. Jenifer found the simple administrative task of collecting senior leader signatures on cheques as a way to increase her personal brand within the organisation. Once Jenifer found herself a role within the buying department of M&S when the swinging 60's started to take shape with the likes of The Beatles, Twiggy, Mary Quant and Vidal Sassoon as London proved to be the epicentre of it all.  Jenifer, when moved to the skirts department, she suggested the trial of the mini skirt and before she knew it her career exploded as the mini skirt became synonymous with the era. Jenifer always appreciated the interaction, communication and humility of the M&S senior leaders combined with their ability to embrace risk and opportunity.  Jenifer left M&S in 1973 following a series of personal life decisions which led to her start J & J in Newcastle when Ted Heath was Prime Minister and the three day week was imposed during to the strikes. J & J was to become the UK's largest privately owned women's clothing manufacturer . During Christmas 1975, Jenifer lost her second husband having already lost her father. This had a huge impact on Jenifer who was now responsible for the leadership and growth of J & J.  Jenifer met her third husband who ended up merging with J & J which in turn led to a business with 3,000 people and 12 factories across the UK. That business was sold in 1992. Jenifer was on the receiving end of many accolades and offers of appointments at this point and she realised that life was for living as opposed to sitting back on past successes. Today, Jenifer is passionate about the Heart Cells Foundation founded in 2004 with her third husband (Ian) who later died from heart failure, however his life had been extended for three years after stem cell therapy treatment originally located out of Germany. Heart failure is currently the number 1 killer in the UK and one person dies every three minutes.  The charity focuses on the ability to use a person's own Stem Cells to repair their heart and it is revolutionising the practice of medicine. Their goal is to make this treatment readily available to everyone. Jenifer is responsible for raising millions of pounds for the Foundation and her passion for helping others is insatiable. www.heartcellsfoundation.comWatch & Subscribe:

What to do? How widespread and popular is the Immaculate Flame of Love? What can the laity do to increase participation in Adoration? Are any or all forms of dancing sinful? Where did priestly vestments originate? Are St. Mary Magdala and St. Mary, Sister of Lazarus the same person? During Christmas time, is it wrong to listen to Christmas songs that don't have any mention of Jesus? As we look back at the holiday season, we feel it is interesting to examine the idea of gifting. During Christmas, consumerism is rampantly increasing, and as we dig further into the concept of gifting, the Gwartney team seems to look more at the potential negatives of gift-giving. Has the idea of gift-giving exceeded what was thought of as its potential? Does gift-giving highlight the core values we want to imbed in our future? We discover the actual value of a gift comes from the effort and thought that the giver put into it. During Christmas, we are most comfortable with the kinder, gentler side of Jesus. But there is so much more to this man than that. Jesus is beautiful, but He is also dangerous.  He was brutally honest to the point of being uncomfortable. There were times when He was brash and outspoken. He was passionate to the point of violence. When Jesus walked this earth He was accused of nearly everything of breaking the law, keeping bad company, and heavy drinking. There was a point that He was accused of being the devil himself. This Jesus was so compelling and so dangerous and so scandalous that the religious leaders had to kill Him to try to keep him quiet. A Journey through the Books of Luke

“His Name shall be called … Everlasting Father”. Isaiah 9:6This one has me stumped.  Why would you call a baby “Everlasting Father”? Son, brother, or uncle might be a better description.  I have some ideas rambling through my mind, but this particular prophecy has captured my imagination this Christmas season. It is a most amazing prophecy concerning Jesus' names 750 years before he was born. A very powerful declaration of the uniqueness of the coming Messiah.Something else has captured my imagination as well.  I was gathering up our Christmas albums to play some Christmas music while decorating our home for the season (Jan is always so creative in making our home “gemütlich” – cozy this time of year!) when I came across a cd labeled: Christmas 1969. I had no recollection of it, so Jan suggested I play it and find out what was on it.  The first sounds I recognized immediately as the Bells of Bethlehem, something as a boy I often experience as we spent our Christmases in Jerusalem.  During Christmas 1969 I was in my freshman year at college, and met up with my sisters during the Christmas break.  Our parents were still in Beirut, Lebanon, and sent us a tape they had recorded for us. Somehow it had been saved to a cd, and I found myself listening to my mother's voice for the first time since she had died in 1976, and my fathers voice since he died in 1990.  I was reliving memories from over 53 years ago: memories of special experiences as a child shared with family growing up in the Middle East. From my baptism in the Jordan River to walking in the places Jesus had walked, our parents had given us a very special childhood.  It was a foundation that would directly impact the rest of my life.  I can see how from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth I have gone sharing about Jesus wherever I went. Seeing people from all walks of life turning from sin to a savior, breaking the devil's chains, and being set free to forgive and to be forgiven.  Family is important and key to the growth of individuals as well as communities and nations. Our father's have great influence on us for good or for bad.  How often do we take on the characteristics of our fathers?  Their influence gives us norms in life. We judge what is normal and foundational by their behavior.  That is not always a good thing.Just because I got the belt when I was a kid, that was how I knew to punish and correct bad behavior.  And that was how I started with my boys as well. It's what I knew, and based on my experience it is what I did.  Believe me, I had to repent of my power methods. But we see Fathers as just a larger extension of our own fathers – domineering, inciting fear (just wait until your father comes home!), absent, disinterested in your life, ruling your life to the smallest detail, etc.  is the mighty God really like that? That kind of a Father is not full of wonder for sure!  If we can adequately describe him, he cannot be the wonder-filled God of this prophecy. Now all of us had sinful parents.  They probably did their best, and we all still messed up, regardless of the effort they made. That, however, does not negate the value and importance of family.  Especially when it comes to learning how to be selfless and other key values to living in community. Family is the foundation of ordered life, something our very self centered society is drifting away from. Kindness in some government circles a very rare commodity. Meanness, anger, gossip, name calling, accusations, and general lack of good manners in social intercourse is the rule of the day. What does that teach our children? Perhaps we need better fathers who can teach their children in word, deed, and by example how to live good lives?  That has always been the cry.  Where are the fathers who do that?  From the beginning of time we see this very need! Whether it is Adam, Abraham, Jacob, Saul, David, or evil men like Herod, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Putin who waste lives striving for power… we always need fathers.  But all the fathers are sinful from Adam on. And we don't just need a father for one generation, but for all generations!  Every child needs a father! Every generation needs fathers as well; the need is new with every child born! Our great need is for a a good and an everlasting father! One who has the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of One who is old, but the excitement and joy and discovery of one who is a father for the first time!We each yearn for a father who fits that bill: who loves us unconditionally and continues to pursue us, doesn't abandon us, who is always available wether we need him or not.  We need a steady constant model we can see and follow, but whose thrill of life and joy is so contagious.  Not just a disciplinarian, but an encouraging source of life, help and encouragement. We need someone who is there for us, our children, our grandchildren, and for generations to come!  We need a strong, and compassionate father. A wise and caring,  knowledgeable and understanding father.  My father is no longer here to ask for guidance or insight, or understanding. Where is the father who is dependable, available, and trustworthy? Now you. Ought jump ahead of me and say well God is that kind of a father.  The problem we face however, is that we already have a father. Even if such a person were available how do you adopt them? If I try to sneak into someone else's family, the closest I could get would be stepfather. They might be kind. But I would still be an outsider, a fostered child.  The only way you can be a father, is by giving birth. You see the seed enters the woman and it fertilizes the egg and a baby is the result.  Not a different kind of animal, but one born of the same kind.It is no wonder that Jesus says to Nicodemus in John 3: 3-21: “you must be born again!” If we are born by sinners, then that is the nature we get, but if we are born again by the spirit of God, we have a new Father! The Father Heart of God is ours and it affects all of our life.  The word of God is the seed and when it enters our hearts, and is joined by the Spirit of God, it creates a new creature in the likeness of the everlasting father!  It is all encompassing!

On today's episode of the “Helping Families Be Happy” podcast, host Dr. Carla Marie Manley, talks with Lindsey McDivitt about her enchanting and fabulous new book – “Christmas Fairies for Ouma”. This book shares Christmas joy and celebrates the love between a grandparent and a grandchild.   Episode Highlights 01:35 – Lindsey says that this is her first fiction book however previously she was a healthcare professional where she worked with stroke survivors and their families to provide education and support. 03:45 – “Christmas Fairies for Ouma” is all about loving, kindness, connection, long distance, and the importance of really embracing our loved ones. 06:00 - For Lindsey, spending Christmases far away from loved ones resonates so much with her that in this holiday season it is time to reach out as real letters are so precious. 10:30 – Lindsey recalls how they used to celebrate Christmas in South Africa stating they used to sit around the Christmas holiday dinner table while two people used to pull on the paper crackers. Then she also reminisces how everybody had to wear those paper crowns at the table and they all looked ridiculous. 11:30 – Dr. Carla asks Lindsey about what they ate on Christmas day in South Africa. 15:34 – “You're making me think of another way to communicate with grandparents is the old thing of sending thank you cards right after Christmas.”, says Dr. Carla. 17:00 – Dr. Carla tells Lindsey to give the listeners an idea of other than the back matter what is inside of “Christmas Fairies for Ouma” looks like. 18:25 - The grandmother in this story has a personality, mainly through the art illustrations. 20:30 – Lindsey says that we should, especially at Christmas time not just be talking about the message of kindness but sitting together the adult and a child, and reading a picture book is such a loving engrossing activity on its own. 21:00 - This book more than qualifies as a most precious book for parents, aunts, uncles, grandmas, and grandpas. 22:00 – Dr. Carla says, talking about the power storybooks definitely when you have someone in your life who has suffered from a stroke just sitting down and reading with them, or receiving a card in the mail, makes all the difference in stroke recovery. 23:44 – Dr. Carla states that she was listening to a podcast the other day where the millennial generation is already feeling the pressure of aging and they're all 30 years old. Three Key Points Lindsey says that nowadays long-distance grandparents have a lot more tools like video and telephone calls but they never had any of that. They just had letters and occasional visits so that bond is so strong. The target audience for this book is around ages four to eight. Lindsey thinks it will reach a broader audience because she knows that many of her friends are new grandparents and they're all very taken with the story whether they live close to their grandchildren or live far away. During Christmas, this message of kindness, reaching out, and connecting with loved ones is important.  One part of this book that most people don't realize is there's also a learning aspect apart from learning the power of kindness. The book is based partially in South Africa where Lindsey's grandparents were and some talks a little bit about South Africa and the way Christmas is celebrated there. Since South Africa is in the southern hemisphere, so it's Christmas in the middle of summer. it's quite different from where she spent most of her growing-up years and snowy Minnesota. So the book just juxtaposes those two parts of the world and those two seasons. Although this is a picture book for a very young age, it gives a little bit of information about how South Africa has changed and transitioned from a very racist apartheid society where the racists were kept separate by the white government, and how that changed after President Nelson Mandela became the first democratically elected president by all races back in 1994.   Tweetable Quotes “I was in healthcare for a long time but started writing children's books about 10 years ago.” - Lindsey McDivitt “So many people could benefit from more support around stroke because it is a life-changing situation.” - Dr. Carla Marie Manley “Even though I only saw my grandparents about every three years, I remain close to them, thanks to letters.” - Lindsey McDivitt “I don't know if it's the same in your area but our blue mailboxes in Sonoma County have all but disappeared, they've taken them off of streets, corners, downtown, and sidewalks.” - Dr. Carla Marie Manley “I'm going to share some information about South African celebrations.” - Lindsey McDivitt “Even though it's middle of summer, at least my family would still have a hot meal like roast beef, potatoes, and big Christmas pudding like the steamed pudding.” - Lindsey McDivitt “Whether or not we received a gift from somebody what a perfect opportunity to send a card, especially a handmade one that says thanks for being in my life.” - Dr. Carla Marie Manley “To see the title of Christmas fairies for Omen comes from the actual card has fairies on it, and it goes all the way across the world.” - Lindsey McDivitt “It hardly matters what the book is exactly, but I know that as adults at Christmas time, we want to read cozy Christmas tales.” - Lindsey McDivitt   Resources Mentioned Helping Families be Happy Podcast  Apple Lindsey McDivitt: Website Instagram Twitter    Podcast Editing

His daughter was attending Arizona State University and battling with the stressors of college life and being on her own for the first time. During Christmas break, Alexandra reached out to an individual on Snapchat while seeking relief for insomnia and depression and was dealt a counterfeit drug that was laced with fentanyl. Matt said, "I want it to be clear, my daughter didn't die from an overdose. She was poisoned." This entire situation was just a tragedy of epic proportions. The man who sold the counterfeit pill is currently standing trial in the Federal Court System for murder. So many lives destroyed by this one careless act. Matt is working to pass the Alexandra's Law, and advance legislation to help mimic the current DUI laws in California. A dealer would be hit with a warning following the first offense. During Christmas time, we hear the “war on Christmas” prominently take up space in our media and talking circles, focusing more on the symbols and artifacts of Christmas than the person we are celebrating. This is a pause for reflection by Christians themselves, as we reinforce this incorrect focus on “things” rather than on Jesus. In this Christmas message, Pastor Jay shares a message celebrating Christmas with a fresh look at the passage leading up to the famous John 3:16 verse.  Find out more about True North Church at truenorthsv.org Pastor Jay Song

Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking about finding joy and balance During Christmas. I know as a former retail worker that many people are stressed out and unhappy going into the Christmas season, people get harried and anxious about all the shopping and cooking, all of the to-do's. But today I want to encourage us to stop, get off the hamster wheel and find balance and joy during the most wonderful time of the year? How? I propose that we scale back the should and tap into this moment, this conversation, this precious time on our lives. Am I saying you should stop doing all the things? Well only if you're doing them from a place of stress and anxiety. Our goal in this conversation is to reflect on this season, what's important and who is important to us and make time for that. Christmas can be a great time of celebration and joy if we choose to approach it that way. I can't believe it's actually December! So today I'm asking you to join me in finding balance and joy in each day, creating moments of joy each day and letting the days become something more. Christmas is one of the most beautiful seasons, all the lights, music, chillier weather, and if you are lucky – some snow. Friends, this can be the most magical, enjoyable and uplifting time. Join me in creating that in our hearts and homes. So grab a cuppa hot chocolate and sit with me for this conversation. Please remember to subscribe, rate and share this podcast! Thank you!

During Christmas we do not celebrate a day on the calendar but the coming of Jesus and we remember to place our hope on what is yet to come. We celebrate that God loved us so much that He chose to live among us through Jesus. Check out this message from Pastor Duane on this powerful event.
