The Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986, in Boston, Massachusetts. Until 2013, the band consisted of Black Francis (vocals, rhythm guitar, songwriter), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), Kim Deal (bass, vocals) and David Lovering (drums). They disbanded acrimoniously in 1993 but reunited in 2004. After Deal left in 2013, the Pixies hired Kim Shattuck as a touring bassist; she was replaced that year by Paz Lenchantin, who became a permanent member in 2016. The Pixies are associated with the 1990s alternative rock boom, and draws on elements including punk rock and surf rock. Their music is known for dynamic 'loud-quiet-loud' shifts and song structures. Francis is the Pixies' primary songwriter; his often surreal lyrics cover offbeat subjects such as extraterrestrials, incest, and biblical violence. The band achieved modest popularity in the US but was more successful in Europe. Their jarring pop sound influenced acts such as Nirvana, Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer. In this episode a playlist of songs created by the Pixies and published in a popular music streaming platform (that shall remain unnamed) between December 2017 and July 2019. We're back for 2023! and to celebrate, we're talking about our favourite songs from 20 years earlier in 2003, when Colin quit university to work in a record shop, In addition to the music we talk about linguistics in pop punk, and feature both the longest, & shortedt songs we've ever had on any of our playlists. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Alfie, Alkaline Trio, A Perfect Circle, Blink 182, Broadcast, Cult Of Luna, Cursive, The Dears, Evan Dando, Explosions In The Sky, The Fall, Four Tet, Jose Gonzalez, Hope Of The States, Jay-Z, Lamb Of God, Liam Lynch, Machine Head, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Mew, Ministry, Kylie Minogue, Mogwai, Opeth, The Postal Service, Radiohead, Sleep, Spiritualized, Stars, & Patrick Wolf.Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4uuaF2z2giwA5OBbH7LxbT?si=ffd7a22f3065434cFind our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes, you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdg Ian's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqA and Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9Nw The playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Lydia ClarkeRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Say hello at www.facebook.com/wedigmusicpcast or tweet us at http://twitter.com/wedigmusicpcast or look at shiny pictures on Instagram at http://instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast Part of the We Made This podcast network. https://twitter.com/wmt_network You can also find all the We Dig Music & Free With This Months Issue episodes at www.wedigpodcasts.com

Acomi and Turk182 discuss the explosion of United Airlines Flight 629 over Longmont, Colorado on November 1, 1955. Reading from Wikipedia and a 2019 news article, they present the details of the horrible tragedy on that cold autumn night. Focusing on the after affects of the airplane explosion, the two talk about the affect it had on the people of Longmont, CO. How they reacted and responded on the night of the tragedy, and how it impacted their lives for years after. They explore the ripple affect such an event has on people who find themselves indirectly involved, and are just as much victims as those on the aircraft. Acomi and Turk also talk about the Eastern Airlines Flight 401 which went down in the Florida Everglades on December 29, 1972. In addition, they talk about the much debated and dismissed "ghost of flight 401" and the novel and made for television movie. #OMTWF #Acomi #Turk182 #KorovaEntertainment Follow Acomi on Twitter at @AcomiDraws and on Instagram at AcomiDraws. This month we're back on the time travel malarkey and we're space oddyseying along to 2001 where we've been laughing at talking Velociraptors in Jurassic Park 3, Installing WIndows XP and wearing massive baggy shorts with wallet chains. We've also been talking about Tracey's over familiarity with Polly Jean Harvey, Unexpected Fall influencers & highly inappropriate reasons for cheering at festivals. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Ian's wife Lydia, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them to Colin's wife Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. Helen also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Ingrid y Callum nos presentaron las siguientes canciones: "A New City For The First Time". "Dear Green Place". "Monday's Movie". "For Our Mothers". Sponsored By: Show Notes About our guest: Eduardo San Martin Morote - Twitter @posva (https://twitter.com/posva?lang=en) - Website (https://esm.dev/) - Github (https://github.com/sponsors/posva) [00:01:07] Chris asks Eduardo to talk about are some recent changes with Vue Router in the last six months or a year with that may be really interesting to people. [00:04:08] Chris wants to know for the premise-based navigation if you’re going to use a profile page for someone entering a user name and you take them to this new route that checks to see if that user name exists, could you add a catch there that handles that gracefully and what are some ways you would use that in an app? [00:09:31] Chris asks Eduardo what are some the main problems people have with Vue Router? Ari chimes in with an issue she’s had. [00:15:51] Eduardo answers the question if you’re building an app with that kind of interface how would you know which strategy would be better for you? Also, he tells us the “hackiest” things he’s ever seen with someone using Vue Router. [00:26:16] Chris talks about his lazy load Vue utility that he’s defined, to get around the advanced async component definition and it doesn’t work with Vue Router, and he has a messy hack that he doesn’t like and doesn’t work as well as he wants it to. He wants to know with the next version of Vue Router will we get that working? Eduardo answers this… [00:30:31] Tessa wants Eduardo to go into how URL encoding is like state machines. [00:35:21] Chris is curious if Eduardo was starting a new Vue application what would his Vue Router configuration look like? Also, Eduardo explains if he defines a scroll behavior function? [00:46:37] Tessa asks Eduardo if he woke up tomorrow in a world without Vue Router, like everything else is the same, but the router was never created, what would he do differently or what would he keep the same? [00:48:59] Tessa is curious and asks Eduardo if there are any old choices sticking around that are hampering new development that he wishes he could go back and change but maybe he can’t for some reason or another? [00:52:12] Eduardo talks a little more about what it’s like to be the core maintainer of Vue Router and what areas he needs the most help for people interested in contributing. Picks of the week: [00:55:17 Chris’s has two picks: A game called “Disco Elysium” (https://store.steampowered.com/app/632470/Disco_Elysium/) and a show called, “Dollface” (https://www.hulu.com/series/5e0e449e-6bc7-4b29-8255-bc5a5f5a9f0d) on Hulu.
