Daniel Kraft is a surprising and admirable figure in the digital health landscape. Originally trained as a physician in internal medicine and pediatrics, he then distinguished himself by his research work focusing on regenerative medicine, while at the same time initiating several entrepreneurial projects in the medtech space. RegenMed Systems is one of them, a company that he founded and which led him to create a new type of medical device to facilitate bone marrow harvest procedures. IntelliMedicine is another one, where he aims to create a system enabling patients to 3D print their own medication at home, avoiding the intake of multiple pills on a daily basis. Aside from his own entrepreneurial endeavours, he advises several Fortune-50 and digital health-related startups, and is on the board of Healthy.io. As one of the most renowned ambassadors of digital health, he is driven by the conviction that innovation in this space can only result from the synergies of disciplines and technologies that may initially be totally distant from the medical sphere. Through his activities at the Singularity University or through the program Exponential Medicine that he initiated, he brings together brilliant minds from a broad range of specialties who come together to explore convergent and rapidly developing technologies, to develop relevant applications in healthcare. Often called upon to speak to the future of health, medicine and technology, he has already given multiple TED and TEDMED Talks, and delivered keynotes to a wide array of organizations on those subjects. We talked with Daniel about his early days in the healthcare world, why he decided to study medicine and orient himself on this path, his perspective on the importance of collaboration and boldness when it comes to creating new digital health solutions, what the future looks like from his lens, but also how he manages to stay on top of things while keeping a healthy lifestyle! In this episode, Daniel Kraft, founder of Exponential Medicine and Digital.Health, and chair of the XPRIZE Pandemic & Health Alliance talks about the internet of medical things and the future of medicine. Daniel reminisces on a TedTalk about medicine's future and ten years later, he finds that we are in a new age of digitally connected and mobile health. For him, COVID brought transformation in an accelerated way in diagnostics, therapeutics, crowdsourcing trials, and beyond. Daniel believes the future of medicine consists in bringing multiple technologies together. He talks about developing technologies like digital twins, quantum computing, 3D printing, augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. He points out how smartphones today have become a powerful digital tool for individuals' health as well. He thinks of digital health as the ability to take all new data, integrate it, make sense of it, and personalize it to the individual, clinician, or healthcare system needed. Daniel argues one of the challenges for medicine is keeping up with the innovation, which is why he's built Digital.Health as a platform to address that problem. He thinks navigating the vast amount of applications and the data created from them and smart devices are getting more complicated. He talks about how the focus should be on producing insights and integrating them into the workflow. This information can provide an improvement in interaction with patients and accessibility. Daniel speaks about digital determinants of health as a new factor to take into account to optimize prevention, diagnostics, and therapeutics. He believes all these digital tools will upscale the healthcare space to a new golden age and democratize access. Listen to what Daniel Kraft, a noted visionary and futurist, has to say about creating the future of health, medicine, and orthopedics at DOCSF. Learn about the internet of medical things and why Daniel is certain that collaboration between innovators will bring forward a new age for health!

OVERVIEW: Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner, and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy podcast talks with Dr. Daniel Kraft, MD, physician-scientist, inventor, entrepreneur, innovator, and Chair of the XPRIZE Pandemic Alliance Task Force. Daniel discusses his showcase event, Exponential Medicine. He also shares his insight on healthcare innovation and offers advice to anyone trying to get their business ideas off the ground. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Daniel considers himself an international healthcare futurist. He's focused on rethinking and reimagining digital healthcare to address the unmet needs of patients and to solve their pain points. His vision includes democratizing healthcare solutions around the planet: drugs, devices, software, and wearables. Daniel is the founder and Chair of Exponential Medicine - a high-energy and boldly redesigned medical conference. The annual program gathers biomedical and technology-based faculty, innovators, and organizations to explore technologies that will impact the future of health and medicine. Daniel's advice for people who host events or speak at conferences: throw away the script and be less afraid of making mistakes. The Innovation Lab at Exponential Medicine helps accelerate entrepreneurs from startup to market. Healthcare is a team sport. No one person has the answer. Daniel is an advocate of design thinking to meet people where they are - to redefine the problem to better understand people and challenge assumptions. Daniel talks about the 15 years he spent as a flight surgeon practicing aerospace medicine in the California and Massachusetts Air National Guard and why he decided to get out of the military. If you're launching your own business, Daniel advises you to do it from the bedside. What problem are you solving? Understand who's cheese you might be moving. Daniel also advises seeking out partners through virtual networking on LinkedIn and participating in pitch days with accelerators and incubators. Build a business plan and recruit people to your team. 3 KEY POINTS: The goal of Exponential Medicine is to bring people together to learn and cross-fertilize ideas - to accelerate incremental medicine. COVID is sparking a health age through the use of telemedicine and the alignment of regulations with reimbursements. It's forcing us to find and catalyze new healthcare solutions - there will be new spinoffs coming out of COVID. Figure out what your unmet need is and understand it from different angles. Look at the landscape of the competition and then build prototypes for your solution. TWEETABLE QUOTES: “Healthcare and innovation is a team sport... That in combination with the work in emotional intelligence with Dr. Jeanne Segal and understanding how emotions are processed in the body and that to really be mindful, it's not just of our thoughts, it's of our entire system because our responses show up in many places in our body and to be fully mindful you want to be fully integrated in your awareness. Thoughts on Breathing I got started with yoga and pranayama and breath practices and performance music is all about breathing and phrasing and breath. So the quickest way to mindfulness is to be mindful first of your breath because it does what we talk about in that integration of the body and the mind. From that place, if you can't have awareness of your breath, you're probably not being very mindful of other things. The Future Of Medicine: Precision And Personalization | This episode is brought to you by TrueDark, BiOptimizers, and HigherDOSEIt's an exciting time to be in medicine, as we watch technological advances completely change the way we understand the body. There are revolutions happening on multiple levels: the “omics” revolution that looks at the interactions of the genome, microbiome, metabolome, transcriptome, and more; the digitization of data that involves tracking our biology through things like the Oura ring or a continuous glucose monitor; and the systems biology medicine movement that is reframing the way we look at preventing disease and healing the body at the root. I was excited to sit down with Dr. Daniel Kraft to talk about a different vision that will integrate this type of information into the future of healthcare.
