Did Frictional Games bribe the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button, or has our game selection system achieved a state of consciousness mirroring the theme of this sci-fi survival horror title? Once again our hosts are tasked with spending an hour with a spooky game and trying not to end up with nightmares afterward. With plenty of experience crafting horror on both the Penumbra and Amnesia series, how will Frictional Games attempt to set this game apart from their prior endeavors? Join our hosts as they discover if a sci-fi spin is a welcome change to Frictional's formula and if it makes this scary genre any more palatable for poor Chris! What do you think? Let us know! The laws of physics, discovered by physicists, are evidence of the perfection of Allah's creation. Water's viscosity, the gravity of masses, and Planck's Constant are examples of these laws and how they are perfect for the use of living beings. These laws are necessary for the balance of the universe, or else the Earth would be lost in space. Allah is responsible for these laws, as He sends down water from the sky and creates crops to sustain life. The laws of physics are a testament to the divine design of the universe. Without these laws, energy would be completely different: a small fire could burn us up, while even a giant fireball wouldn't be enough to warm the earth. Frictional forces are essential, as they are necessary to keep objects in place and allow us to brake our cars. These laws of physics demonstrate the sovereignty of Allah, and how he has put them in service for us to reflect upon and understand His power.

I'm Jaz Gulati and thanks so much for coming onto the app for part two or what was quite a brilliant part one with Dr. Sandra Hulac. Her energy is just absolutely amazing. Jaz's Introduction:Now, just a recap, we left you on a bit of a cliffhanger last time. We talked about, I asked Sandra about orthodontics. You know, how often does orthodontics come into it? Is it every single time? And the answer she gives is really pragmatic. So you'll hear that or see that in just a few minutes. But I just want to do a bit of a recap, what we talked about last time, right? So, a constricted chewing pattern is someone who really wants to bite here, but the teeth meet together here, so the condyle gets sort of pushed back, if you like. Right. So for this patient, the centric relation is actually further forward. So who's at risk? People who've got upright or retroclined upper incisors, right? And their jaw wants to be further forward, right? Maybe cuz of growth, the jaw wants to be further forward, which is why Sandra said that people who've had orthodontics and upper pre-molars extracted. The maxilla gets smaller if you like, and mandible start continues to grow and those patients may be at risk. So if you see those kind of traits, then maybe we shouldn't be using like a leaf gauge for centric relation on those patients. We should be using like a deprogramming appliance Lucia Jig or a Kois deprogrammer. If you fancy that one because that's what Dr. Sandra does. And what you find with these patients with a CCP is yes, their jaw gets shifted back, but you might get more wear on their edges. And that's not from bruxism. That's because the outside in movement. Right? Their jaw wants to be further forward. Now, this is similar. The cousin of this is the frictional chewing pattern who their condyle isn't getting forced back, right? Their MIP is okay. It's just that as they're chewing the outside in is causing this. So, let's say that's normal, the incisal edges are not worn here. Can you see? They're a bit jaggedy over here, right? It's just, to over here and over here. We see this all the time and let me show you some photos actually on th...

Do you blame bruxism for every time you observe attrition? As you know, I'm no stranger to occlusal appliances, but often they may be inappropriate for the patient who is causing their wear during FUNCTION and not so much during parafunction. Maybe it's time for us to start looking at different aetiologies of attrition and this is what the wonderful Dr. Sandra Hulac breaks down for us in this banger of an episode. We also discussed the differences between frictional and constricted chewing patterns, which are often confused with each other. Now we know that sounds like a big task and a huge ask, but we did it. I think we did it. OBAB:We did it. We finally made OBAB, Occlusion Basics and Beyond. And we've really, really worked our butts off to give you an occlusion course that is gonna be applicable to real world dentistry. So, what's included in this pre-launch deal? We've got five different things for you. First of all is the OBAB starter kit. We're gonna send you a starter kit so you can start implementing the concepts we're gonna teach you straight away on Monday. It's got a Huffman leaf gauge we imported from the US and this is our favorite leaf gauge. It's also got a pack of shim stock in it, so you don't have to use your fat fingers every time. We're gonna send you a pair of Miller forceps as well. The start kit is worth a hundred pounds and we'll start shipping it once the course access begins on 7th of April. I think really anyone interested in occlusion, whether you are at the beginning of your career in the middle, or even getting towards the end would learn a huge amount from this particular program. The second benefit of this pre-launch deal is we're gonna give you 500 pounds off of the cost of the course, and you can take our word for it, that we are never gonna price it this low ever again. And this course truly has an unbelievable return on investment. The third benefit of the pre-launch deal is that instead of getting 12 months of access, we're gonna extend that. So you get two whole years of oab and that's a no extra charge, and we're gonna be adding lots of new cases and content as we go. Daniel Faulkner, University of Liverpool Estimating the size and frequency of earthquakes during subsurface fluid injection is currently not possible. Understanding the fundamental controls on earthquake-size distributions is the first step to making these predictions. This study shows that the laboratory measured frictional stability parameter (a-b) relates closely to fault-related induced earthquake-size distributions (b-values) in a shale gas play. Fluid injection promoted seismicity along faults that cut lithologically distinct horizons, each with characteristic frictional stability parameters and earthquake-size distributions, are compared. Results indicate material properties play a key role in earthquake-size distributions. As such, it may be possible to constrain the expected seismicity from laboratory measurements prior to any fluid injection into the subsurface.

Lake-effect snow is produced during cooler atmospheric conditions when a cold air mass moves across long expanses of warmer lake water. The lower layer of air, heated up by the lake water, picks up water vapor from the lake and rises up through the colder air above; the vapor then freezes and is deposited on the downwind shores. But Lake-effect snow can actually occur when a lake is partially or even total frozen. That is because directional wind shear is one of the most important factors governing the development of snow squalls; environments with weak directional shear typically produce more intense squalls than those with higher shear levels. Frictional convergence is the major factor in producing the squalls. When the wind blows over an expanse of water – or even frozen lake – the air is flowing unimpeded, when it reaches the shoreline it slows as it comes into contact with the land and causes friction. There is only once place for the air to go and that is up. The lifting causes clouds and precipitation. When the wind blows in such a way that is turns counter-clockwise, the same direction as large-scale storms – that also aids in lift. When the lake is frozen the added element of temperature contrast and available moisture is added to the mix. This is most common around the Great Lakes in the United States and Canada. The snowfall totals can be prodigious, in a short period of time. On January 5, 1988 Heavy lake effect snows on the east side of Lake Ontario in upstate New York. So much snow fell that Interstate 81 was closed from Pulaski to Watertown for a week. As much as 45” of snow fell in less than 12 hours. Learn more about your ad choices. A regular complaint by those who consume and use technology is that security adds friction to their process, which often means they get frustrated at the control put in their path, curse technology in general, or abandon the activity altogether. In today's episode, Dan, Erik and Brian explore the balance necessary to understand when certain controls (and the friction they add) are necessary, or can be made smoother. Each decision on reduction of friction has the potential for knock-on effects to the security, privacy and performance of the system and should be considered before making any change to the control. In some cases the conscious addition of friction is the better approach, too, especially to support transparency with users and enable meaningful, informed choices.

You can run and you can hide... and not much else. That's something Frictional learned in making Penumbra: Overture, a strange predecessor to their more widely acclaimed Amnesia: The Dark Descent. You play as Phillip, a professor who follows in the footsteps of his presumed-dead father and ends up in a heap of trouble in an Arctic mine. Come hear what makes this strange indie horror game so foundational to modern horror games.

OoooOOOOooOOooo~ It's almost Halloween! In honor of the scariest of holidays, we tackle Frictional Games' landmark horror title Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Developed by a small team that had previously created the Penumbra series, Amnesia: The Dark Descent released in 2010 arguably creating the biggest waves in the waning horror genre since the release of the original Resident Evil. It featured Daniel, an amnesiac who awakens in a gloomy castle with a note from his past self urging him to make his way to the heart of the castle complex while avoiding a malevolent entity bent on his destruction. It possessed no combat mechanics, instead purposefully disempowering players, encouraging them to run and hide from the various dangers throughout Castle Brennenburg.  Outro music: Splatterhouse 3 'Call of the Mask' by Beckett007 (http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01772) You can follow the show on Twitter: @BestGamesPeriod Or download the podcast from Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/thebestgamesperiod Don't forget to sign up for Extra Life to help sick and injured kids in hospitals around the US and Canada by playing games! On this episode of the Whispers in the Dark podcast, we interview Frictional Games' (Amnesia, Penumbra) Creative Director Thomas Grip on his studio's latest game, SOMA. If you haven't already played the game, be warned that this episode acts as an inside look into the game's development and as a spoilercast. You will have the story spoiled! Thomas goes over the production and initial design of SOMA, original concepts, gameplay trivia, the SOMA miniseries, player reactions, existentialism, and a whole lot more. Note: the interview was conducted at two separate times and has been edited together. There will be some audio differences and Mike was unable to join us for the latter half of the interview.

Gary Butterfield and Kole Ross hide in a corner while Amnesia: The Dark Descent happens. This game won our Spring Survival Horror poll, and for good reason. Frictional mastered the "first person, pursuit-based exploration horror" genre, and created a game that's so scary that a lot of people can't even play it. terference contrast (RIC) microscopy in combination with real-time image processing. The temporal fluctuations of the absolute sphere-to-substrate distance are determined from changes of interference fringe pattern (Newtonian rings). Both the shape about its minimum and the absolute minimum equilibrium distance of the interaction potential can be obtained by analyzing the distribution of distances in terms of a Boltzmann distribution. The timeautocorrelation function of distances yields the hydrodynamic friction. The method has been applied to the interaction of latex spheres with glass substrates in salt solutions of different ionic strength. The results correspond to classical electrostatic double layer theory that leads to a characteristic dependence of the mean separation distance and the mean square displacement on the radius of the spheres. The hydrodynamic friction close to a wall exhibits the predicted inverse proportionality to the sphere-wall distance. It is demonstrated that the method can be applied to study the interaction between biologically relevant objects such as giant vesicles with bilayer covered substrates.
