Send us Fan MailYour team can feel it before you say a word. AI is moving faster than your job description can keep up with, and underneath the excitement about tools and leverage, a quieter fear is spreading through your people about whether the company still needs them. Dr. William Attaway opens Season 5 of the Catalytic Leadership Podcast with the keyphrase for the entire season: your team is still human. He unpacks why 94 percent of companies run a recognition program while turnover and engagement keep sliding, why people leave over feeling unseen three times more often than over pay, and why appreciation is not the same skill as recognition. Using a real story from an agency owner who almost lost his team to silence, William shows what it looks like to name the fear in the room and replace it with real value. He closes with three moves leaders can make before Friday and two questions worth sitting with all week, starting with whether they are leading like their team is still human.I want to invite you to check out the Committed Mastermind, a community I help lead along with world-class leaders like JC and Karen Hite, Vinnie Fisher, and Jonathan Mast, plus incredible mentors like Dr. Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages, and many others. This is for entrepreneurs who want to build a thriving business without sacrificing their faith, their family, or their health.Check out the Committed Mastermind at https://committedmastermind.com/----Join Dr. William Attaway on the Catalytic Leadership podcast as he shares transformative insights to help high-performance entrepreneurs and agency owners achieve Clear-Minded Focus, Calm Control, and Confidence.Free 30-Minute Discovery Call:Ready to elevate your business? "Why doesn't my partner understand me?" Self-differentiation, love languages and curiosity in relationships

Best Friend Therapy

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 24, 2026 27:20

This week on Dial Emma: What am I Missing?, I'm exploring a relationship question that sounds simple but carries real weight - one that's less about disagreement and more about the loneliness of feeling unseen inside a relationship. Why doesn't my partner understand me?Our listener says: "My partner and I have been together for four years. We rarely argue, but there's a recurring disconnect. When I've had a hard day, he jumps straight to solutions - but I just want to feel understood. He gets frustrated when I reject his help and we both end up feeling unheard and unappreciated."In this episode, I unpack three blind spots behind the feeling of being misunderstood:1. Confusing being understood with being agreed with. I introduce the concept of self-differentiation - the ability to stay standing in your own experience while remaining open and connected to someone else's.2. Giving the help we'd like to receive. One partner offers solutions because that's how they show care; the other needs empathy first. Neither is uncaring, they're just speaking different emotional languages. I revisit Gary Chapman's five love languages (acts of service, physical touch, words of affirmation, gift giving, quality time) not as boxes to pick from, but as a starting point for becoming "bilingual" in how we give and receive love.3. Certainty quietly replacing curiosity. Early in relationships we ask endless questions; years in, we assume we already know the answers. It's important to return to curiosity in relationships - to ask about who your partner is now, not just who they've been.Dial Emma is hosted by Emma Reed Turrell, produced by Lauren Brook.---Book my 2027 women's retreat at Bliss House in Crete: https://bliss-house-experience.replit.appSocial media:Emma Reed Turrell @emmareedturrellEmail: contact@dial-emma.uk

In this episode, I sit down with Jon Sheldon, founder of BelleauWood Coaching, to explore the leadership pressure test through lessons he learned as a Marine squad leader and Fortune 500 sales executive.Jon explains why clear decisions begin with knowing yourself. His professional blueprint centers on purpose, vision, the environment where you thrive, and what motivates you. Then he pressure-tests those answers against real behavior. Courage is more than a value on paper. A leader has to show where courage held and where it gave way.We also talk about radical honesty, the cost of making firm calls, and the discipline of keeping the mission in view when emotion runs high. Send us Fan MailIf your week feels like bouncing client to client with no room left to work on the business itself, this one will land. My guest, Landon Gatliff, is the founder of Gatliff Marketing Consultants, a marketing agency in rural Arkansas serving businesses and organizations both locally and out of state. Landon started the agency as a junior in high school building websites. He now runs it full time, covering brand, ads, commercials, and billboards, while finishing his degree online. What makes this worth your time is how early he learned something that costs founders years. Delegation for agency owners is not a reward you earn at scale. It is the thing that creates it. When his own company needed a commercial, he hired an outside crew rather than working both sides of the camera. The result beat anything he would have made alone. We get into the tension you know well: staying visible while staying booked, using AI without letting it become your voice, and choosing the right clients instead of every client.Books MentionedThe BibleHow to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale CarnegieGuest CTAWant to connect with Landon? Sam brings 45+ years of research into this framework; Suzie leads product innovation at CLS after 15 years of turning research into real-world training. Together, we unpack why one-size-fits-all leadership breaks down during constant change, how the situational leadership model gives you a repeatable way to diagnose exactly what each person needs task by task, and why trust erodes the moment you skip that step. We also dig into Gallup's engagement data and why adaptability, not just intelligence, is becoming the defining leadership skill in the AI era. It wasn't the perks or the values on the wall. It was how the leaders grew. In this episode of the Awesome Marriage Podcast, Dr. Kim sits down with bestselling author Gary Chapman for a practical and honest conversation about what it really looks like to keep a marriage growing, not just surviving. They talk about why marriages don't just "stay the same," how couples slowly drift without realizing it, and what it takes to stay emotionally connected over time. Gary unpacks how love languages can shift through different seasons of life, why assumptions create so many problems, and how simple things like curiosity, communication, and daily check-ins can completely change the tone of a relationship. If you've ever felt like you and your spouse are just "off" lately, or you want to be more intentional about loving well, this conversation gives you real, doable ways to start moving back toward each other again.   Episode Highlights: Without intentional effort, connection naturally fades into distance or "roommate mode."  Couples often miss each other because they're expressing love in ways that feel right to them, not in ways that actually land with their spouse.  When couples stay teachable and intentional, even conflict becomes an opportunity for deeper connection.    Quotes from this Episode: Gary Chapman: "Marriage is either going to grow or regress—there's really no drifting in place." "I don't talk about a perfect marriage. I talk about a growing marriage." "Life satisfaction is found in relationships, not in the accumulation of things." "We cannot read each other's minds—you have to ask questions and listen." "The objective is not to win the argument—the objective is to find a solution together." "It's no fun to live with a loser. Why would you create a loser? You're on the same team." "Love has to be communicated in a way that's meaningful to the other person."     Kim Kimberling: "I don't think I'll ever learn everything there is to know about Nancy in a lifetime." "Marriage is an adventure because you're always discovering new things about each other." "If you're not feeling loved, turn into your marriage—not outside of it." "Assumptions in marriage are usually way off." "The distractions we entertain today are often stealing the connection we could be building at home." "There's so much value in the person God put in front of you to do life with." "Small, intentional steps done consistently really do make a difference over time." Time to Talk About it: Where in our marriage are we currently growing—and where might we actually be drifting without realizing it? In what ways am I trying to show love to my spouse, and are those actually the ways they most feel loved? How well do we really ask questions and stay curious about each other instead of assuming we already know what the other thinks or feels?
