Follow our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/goyeforthpodcast/ On today's show, we get to meet Matt Kiddle. Matt served in the Germany, Berlin mission from 2007 to 2009. Matt serves with me as a counselor in the bishopric. He's an awesome guy who is way into mountain biking, he's a great father and husband, and he was a fantastic missionary. In my missionary minute, I talk about the day in and day out service of missionaries. ..... A special thanks to Matt Kiddle. It's a ton of fun to serve with him in the bishopric. He's the young cool member of the bishopric and it's so great having his family in the ward. In today's missionary minute, Matt mentioned something that I've thought a lot about. He said that sometimes even for a day, he cheered someone up as a missionary. I've seen that over and over here in Port Angeles as there are people dealing with big trials, and the missionaries come into these people's lives and brighten it with the Spirit and the gospel, and maybe they don't join the church, but for a time, they …. Well, that's about it for today's show. If you or someone you know has served a mission and you think that they would be a fun guest for the show, please contact me @ goyeforthpodcast@gmail.com We are looking for former mission presidents, senior missionaries, sister missionaries, full-time proselyting missionaries, service missionaries, and missionaries who have served far and near. If you liked the show, please subscribe so that you are notified when new episodes come out. We would also appreciate it if you could rate and review the podcast in Apple podcasts, or share it with a friend. Until next time, wax strong in the gospel my friends! Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Effective Altruism Foundation: Plans for 2020, published by Jonas Vollmer on the AI Alignment Forum. Summary Our mission. We are building a global community of researchers and professionals working on reducing risks of astronomical suffering (s-risks). Our plans for 2020 Research. We aim to investigate the questions listed in our research agenda titled “Cooperation, Conflict, and Transformative Artificial Intelligence” and other areas. Research community. We plan to host research workshops, make grants to support work relevant to our priorities, present our work to other research groups, and advise people who are interested in reducing s-risks in their careers and research priorities. Rebranding. We plan to rebrand from “Effective Altruism Foundation” to a name that better fits our new strategy. 2019 review Research. In 2019, we mainly worked on s-risks as a result of conflicts involving advanced AI systems. Research workshops. We ran research workshops on s-risks from AI in Berlin, the San Francisco Bay Area, and near London. The participants gave positive feedback. Location. We moved to London (Primrose Hill) to attract and retain staff better and collaborate with other researchers in London and Oxford. Fundraising target. We aim to raise $185,000 (stretch goal: $700,000). If you prioritize reducing s-risks, there is a strong case for supporting us. Make a donation. About us We are building a global community of researchers and professionals working on reducing risks of astronomical suffering (s-risks). (Read more about us and our values.) We are a London-based nonprofit. Previously, we were located in Switzerland (Basel) and Germany (Berlin). Before shifting our focus to s-risks from artificial intelligence (AI), we implemented projects in global health and development, farm animal welfare, wild animal welfare, and effective altruism (EA) community building and fundraising. Background on our strategy For an overview of our strategic thinking, see the following pieces: Gloor: Cause prioritization for downside-focused value systems Althaus & Gloor: Reducing Risks of Astronomical Suffering: A Neglected Priority Gloor: Altruists Should Prioritize Artificial Intelligence (somewhat dated) The best work on reducing s-risks cuts across a broad range of academic disciplines and interventions. Our recent research agenda, for instance, draws from computer science, economics, political science, and philosophy. That means (a) we must work in many different disciplines and (b) find people who can bridge disciplinary boundaries. The longtermism community brings together people with diverse backgrounds who understand our prioritization and share it to some extent. For this reason, we focus on making reducing s-risks a well-established priority in that community. Strategic goals Inspired by GiveWell's self-evaluations, we are tracking our progress with a set of deliberately vague performance questions: Building long-term capacity. Have we made progress towards becoming a research group that will have an outsized impact on the research landscape and relevant actors shaping the future? Research progress. Has our work resulted in research progress that helps reduce s-risks (both in-house and elsewhere)? Research dissemination. Have we communicated our research to our target audience, and has the target audience engaged with our ideas? Organizational health. Are we a healthy organization with an effective board, staff in appropriate roles, appropriate evaluation of our work, reliable policies and procedures, adequate financial reserves and reporting, and so forth? Our team will answer these questions at the end of 2020. Plans for 2020 Research Note: We currently carry out some of our research as part of the Foundational Research Institute (FRI). We plan to consolidate our activities r...

Public outcry and confusion ensue after the CDC reverses its public recommendations on wearing masks, and mandates may be on the horizon as President Biden moves toward requiring coronavirus vaccinations among federal employees. This week on Middle Theory… controversy ensues as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have reinstated their mask guidance even among vaccinated Americans in public areas, resulting in confusion and pushback, even from some medical professionals. However, as numbers of newly infected individuals continue to rise, the most contentious development in recent days involves President Joe Biden's new push to require vaccinations for federal employees, who otherwise will have to adhere to more strict regulations for wearing masks and testing for the coronavirus. How far will the administration go with its efforts to curb the number of new infections, and what will be the result of the institution of masks and mandates? We examine these questions, and more on this week's episode of Middle Theory. Welcome to Finance and Fury - This Episode – Look at Where to not invest in negative rates world – if it comes to that – other options First – what does the world in negative rates look like? – dive further into this to start – look at other countries, Japan, Denmark and how this affects an economy – Also - what sort of investments won't fare well - run through alternative assets Going to be 2 parts – go further into alternatives next week What asset classes may be at risk – financial sector Negative interest rates are terrible for banks - They destroy the business model for banks. Put further pressures on banks margin (profits) - make future bank collapses more likely because banks cannot build capital to absorb losses Commercial banks act as streams in the modern economy – Glacier (Central Bank) melts and the money flows through commercial banks and financial systems No ice – no flow – but no rivers – water nowhere to go – a dam that breaks and floods everything European banks are looking to be in poor shape – have negative yields but getting the exact opposite of what they need – Growth from stimulus spending and inflation Japan - same thing - used QE strategy to lower rates back before the term QE was muttered – originals – how well did it work long term? Japan has had near-zero or below zero interest rates for 20 years – stuck in liquidity trap How well has financial sector performed – 1980s - in Japan’s bubble years TOPIX Banks Index – Peak 1989 at 1,500 – now it is about 130 – loss of 91% over 30 years If this spreads to the rest of the worlds financial sector – financial sector suffers - by extension – the economy suffers as low-risk decisions are required – lower business lending Banks make money from the difference between the interest rates they charge on loans and costs on deposits (liability as a reserve to lend out) – you get interest due to risk – also issue FI - Rates go negative = ability to make a profit gets thinner - but risks get larger on the assets loans collateralised against – i.e. property for mortgages Remember - pieces of the assets used as collateral have been inflated by these low-interest rates – Seen that play out with Japan back in the late 80s borrowers will make repayment as usual – but the amount still outstanding will be reduced each month by the negative interest but savers see nothing paid in interest on their deposits – and may also suffer as they go negative Denmark currently – 3rd largest bank offering 10-year mortgage rates at -0.5% - 20year fixed at 0% - Switzerland - UBS a few weeks ago sent a memo to HNW clients -introduce 0.6% p.a. charge on deposits more than €500,000 – Bank of England at 0.75%, ECB at 0%, Denmark (not ECB based) -0.4% cash rates Lower savings rates across Europe - Commercial banks need to take deposits and extend loans. That’s their primary function. This credit intermediation, as it’s called, is like a financial utility. One bank can be allowed to fail. But the banking system overall cannot be allowed to fail – why capital notes are being used as ‘reserve capital’ – replace lower deposits How banking meant to work - profit motive needs to make them aggressive on lending, and the fear of loss needs to make them prudent. Those two forces are supposed to balance each other out over time, with banks swinging too far in one direction and then too far in the other direction as part of the normal business cycle. Generally worked through history – when back with gold or other currencies - some hiccups, as long as banks can do this profitably – meaning they make enough money and set aside enough capital during good times to be able to eat the losses during bad times without collapsing. This sort of event created Central Banks – lender of last resort to provide liquidity – today – manage insolvency as fiat is debt-based Negative interest rates make banks start losing money on their assets – need to chase yield to make some kind of profit Have to do risky investments – sometimes will come with inadequate returns or compound systems risks ECB, the BoJ, and Swiss National Bank have admitted that negative interest rates weaken banks – not speculating here - The ECB has even been talking about a strategy to “mitigate” the destructive effects its policies have on the bank – cash bans The real economy - negative interest rates have an even more profoundly destructive impact: They distort or eliminate the single-most-important factor in economic decision making – the pricing of risk. Bit of a guess - Similarly, portfolio management tools like Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT), Value At Risk (VAR), Risk Parity are all ill-equipped to handle a world of lasting negative interest rates Risk is priced via the cost of capital. If capital is invested in a risky enterprise, investors demand a larger return to compensate them for the risk. And the cost of capital for the risky company is higher. If capital is invested in a low-risk activity, the return for the investor and the cost of capital for the company should both be lower. And the market decides how that pans out. But if central banks push interest rates below zero, this essential function of an economy doesn’t function anymore. Now risk cannot be priced anymore. The perfect example of this: Certain junk bonds in Europe are now trading with a negative yield. This shows that the risk-pricing system in Europe is kaput. World where risks cannot be priced correctly anymore - consequences – probably going to be bad over the longer term for the real economy – creates misallocation - malinvestment and bad decision making Means overproduction and overcapacity - asset bubbles of where borrowings flow Load the entire financial system up with huge risks because these assets are used as collateral, and their value has been inflated by negative yields. Or Aus – Syd, Melb – Not much wage growth, slowing GDP growth - misallocation of lending – bubble in consumption (demand side) without supply (businesses/overall economy, wages, etc.) catching up Monetary Policy remedy to this situation caused in part by negative interest rates – more of the same thing Longer negative interest rates continue - more upside down and unpredictable our economic system will become Harder for us to reverse course – without financial system throwing their hands up, bailing and starting afresh – Nothing new The observable outcome from these policies - strange combinations – massive housing bubbles in cities while slowing economy – Germany - Berlin and Munich while they look to be about in a recession – And a major reset is of course precisely what every central bank fears the most - How will this end? No one knows because this size of a reset has never occurred before - some idea: When there is no reward for saving and bonus to borrow - the economy stops functioning properly – slow decline before being abandoned What this all shows – that the financial system is pretty sick – the cost of its money is so low – Financial reset is likely needed –Few options the IMF have been publishing about - with SDRs, or Crypto backed by gold or SDRs Over the next few years – may see a dollar-denominated asset collapse due to the USD going through replacement speculation A lot of the Debt in the global financial system is back by USD – so if you can collapse the value – you collapse the size of the debt owed If rates continue to go down – if they go Negative in Aus would be bad for ASX index investments – 25% in Financials – mostly big 4 banks – crash to index from a handful of shares triggers wider panics and sell offs Passive investments (indexes) along with the FAANG shares – may not fare so well A lot of factors look to be pointing towards systemic risks – Passive/Index ETFs – liquidity risks – not selling underlying shares but selling the ETF – need a buyer – May be hard to find in a panic - Few different alternatives next week - Inverse ETFs (BBOZ and BBUS) - various assets and derivatives, like options, used to create profits when the underlying index declines in value. Basically, it's an index ETF that gains value when its correlating index falls Versus - the "old money" strategy - about capital preservation - gold, land or art ETF Both have pros and cons - Thanks for listening, if you want to get in contact, you can do so here.
New technology enables us to delight our listeners even more - particularly, radio operators are now offering more choice than ever before. In Australia, Southern Cross Austereo have been doing a crafty job of launching additional brand extensions for rock and sport station Triple M, and top 40 channel Hit - so listeners can now enjoy Triple M branded stations playing modern rock, or classic hits, for example; while listeners who enjoy R’n’B Fridays on Hit can now find a channel that plays that music 24/7. The stations are available on DAB+ and online. SCA’s work has resulted in 12% (https://www.radioinfo.com.au/news/more-data-scale-and-simplicity-grant-blackley-sca%E2%80%99s-annual-results) more audience for the radio company, in what they call a “brand-safe environment”. 104.6 RTL in Berlin, Germany, have also started doing something new just last week that has helped offer more choice to their listeners - Arno and the Morning Crew, the live breakfast show from the station, is now available through their website and in their app with three different types of music (https://www.104.6rtl.com/arno-und-die-morgencrew/arno-die-morgencrew-hoch-3-id192747.html) . It’s the same live radio show that broadcasts on the #2-rated Hot AC station in Germany’s capital city, but now you can enjoy a version playing top 40 (“nothing but new hits”), or the show with a greatest hits format with songs from the 70s to now. This is the first outing of this technology in Germany - Berlin’s “funniest morning show” plus three different music streams, all automatically stitched in. In Vienna, Austria, Kronehit has a service within their app that allows you to listen to the station you enjoy, but skip songs or other elements that you don’t want to listen to. It automatically plays other, brand-relevant music, but continues to have the same presenters, weather, news and travel. They’ve been running this since June 2017. And if you listen to Heart or Capital in the UK, you’ll hear a fair amount of national programming - but with presenter breaks that are occasionally local when they need to be. This method of “smart networking” allows a national presenter to still react to local events when they need to - from helping audiences with a power cut, to being able to promote their local breakfast shows when required. New technology often has a bad name within radio chatrooms and forums: and there’s no doubt that poor voicetracking or networking is pretty obvious to listeners. But this new technology makes radio sound better and better able to compete against the world of Spotify and podcasting. As Marc Haberland, PD at 104.6 RTL says, “radio’s strengths are music and the spoken word: presenters to move and entertain you, and news and information to keep you up to date and help you through your day.” Anything that helps keep radio’s strengths, but adds new choices to audiences, must be a good thing. Gabriele Salerno aka T kode bern in the early 90’ in Rome (IT), approaches into music when he was teenage, every day he needed to hear music feel enveloped by a sound, a melody, a rhythm was something new and he liked, and when something you like doing. Soon he discovers the Electronic music starts high school attending partys in italy, but also in Europe only a few years before the aged, even up to live in Sydney, Australia where he lived for a year. The project started by Gabriele Salerno on March 2015 called “ T Kode “ was born from the idea of the music codes. The music have no rules and can’t have no rules, the music is your rhythm, is how you think it is, words, air, noise, there are no rules to compose it or play it, there are methods that everyone applies to his way of making music, to see music and play it. T kode as taken part in many events like resident or headliner not only in Rome’s clubs and Italians clubs but also foreign as Hungary (Budapest) at Dürer Kert, Spain (Madrid) at Sala Pirandello and Germany (Berlin) at Trésor Club (for wich came out madly in love) and Suicide Circus. T Kode in his own production start to do a careful selection of sounds that reflect the realities of Detroit and Chicago scene, also with references to the old school acid, with modern grooves arrangements. In the set of T Kode you can easily feel influenze by the productions of European and World renown artists such as: FUSE (Richie Hawtin), Belleville Three (Juan Atkins, Derrik May and Kevin Saunderson), Fanon Flowers, Developer, Blotnik Brothers, Mike Parker, Takaaki Itho and more.. Influenced also by the oldest productions of the early 90’s until the middle of 2000, research and selection of techno records with high bpm and frantic groove replicated in the productions of the eastern world techno scene. The first project ever has released in the second half of 2015 from “Blackwater Label” which open completely the doors to the business music marketing with the first Ep on vinyl W&P by T Kode featuring Lunatik called “Tunnel Ep” out September 29, 2015. During the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016, after many collaborations on the ep’s and remixes made with the close friend Lunatik, T Kode started to written and performed his music by himself, 100% with his ideas and points of views and concept of Techno music. In the beginning of May 2016 T Kode announces the opening of its independent record label called "Stratosphera Records” and he has immediatly released a Digital Ep to lunching his new own label “Stratosphera Records" entitled “Spherical Ep" consists of two tracks: "Sphere1.0" and " Sphere2.0 “. From here T Kode imprinted Stratosphera Records totally with his concept of UNDERGROUND business about vinyls with limited edition copies, but sometimes there may be the opportunity to make even the digital release. The groove is the thing that T Kode loves and take care of more and we like to hear. T Kode also imprinted Stratosphera Records to the tracks with references of the past '90 years synths techno sound but modern Stratosphera Records only release Various Artists album, Various Artists album Remixes and the Ep’s, focus just on make vinyls releases but sometimes there may be the opportunity to make even the digital release. During May 2016 T Kode has released another track called Amorphiæ included in “PUNTI DI VISTA Various Artists Vol1” exclusive and limited project pressed only on Vinyl, sold out of stock and already repressed. In October 27, 2016 T Kode has released his first SOLO Ep on vinyl called “Subconscio” including Developer Remix out on Love Blast, Luciano Lamanna’s label, the Ep consists in two original tracks on A side: “Subconscio” and “Subconscio pt.2” and on B side: "Subconscio_Developer Remix" (300 Limited Copies / 100 Orange Version / 200 classic wax) SC: https://soundcloud.com/tkode FB : https://www.facebook.com/Tkode.music/

This month we bring you a chaotic mix of psycore stoked with atomic energy! Introducing Kalilaskov AS (or Vadim Cherkashin to his friends). Kalilaskov means 'the kind one' in Belorussian and the AS stands for Atomic Station. Why, you may ask?Well, Vadim is a survivor of the devastation wrought by the nuclear meltdown at the Chernobyl reactor in the former USSR, living very close to the disaster as it happened. Soon after the catastrophe Vadim and his family moved to Israel where he first got exposure to the psytrance scene, and where his new friends dubbed him 'the kind one'! As far as his music life goes Vadim has produced his own material from the word go, first under the french Nabi records label and now with Blittz Studios, where he's contracted to make his first full solo album very soon.Enjoy the mix and your new year festivities when they come :) Peace and pos vibes for 2012 from the show! He was born in the USSR near Chernobyl and after the infamous atomic disaster in the region he moved to Israel with his family. Now live in Germany - Berlin. In Israel Vadim fell in love with psychedelic trance and eventually decided to pursue his own solo project. Around the same time the nickname Kalilaskov first appeared. Initially it was only a name used by Vadim's close friends to address him (translated as "the kind one" from Belorussian). But later Vadim adopted this name as his permanent alias and added AS to it, which stands for Atomic Station. Thereby Kalilaskov AS was officially born.It did not take long for the global psytrance community to take notice of the young musician and his unique music. The very first release came out on the French Nabi Records and after that multiple compilation releases followed on some of the best labels in the world.Kalilaskov's best of came out in 2008 on Digital Drugs Coalition under the title "Killas" and incorporated Vadim's most renowned compilation tracks. Today Kalilaskov AS is signed to the world famous Russian-Australian giant Blitz Studios and his first full length solo album is to come out very soon!!!At present Kalilaskov AS is playing all over the world at various indoor and outdoor events, club parties and festivals!
