Rachel Johnson Greer is the Founder and Managing Partner of Cascadia Seller Solutions, a successful Amazon marketing agency. As an experienced and strategic Amazon consultant, Rachel has delivered unique and highly successful solutions for clients across multiple account launches and marketing content launches on the marketplace. Prior to Cascadia, Rachel worked as a Program Manager for Amazon, where she was responsible for product safety, direct import compliance, and testing procedures. She has spoken at numerous conferences, including the Prosper Show, Retail Global, and Global Sources, and her work has been featured in The Seattle Times, The Verge, Bloomberg, and more. In this episode… The Amazon marketplace is notorious for making frequent updates that affect its sellers and third-party brands—and it's recent changes to product compliance are no different. Now, many sellers are required to provide a certificate of analysis issued by a third-party laboratory in order to certify that their products are safe for consumers. While this is the gold standard, it is an unusual practice for an industry that has previously relied on in-house accreditations. According to Rachel Johnson Greer, the Founder and Managing Partner of Cascadia Seller Solutions, this update means that an entire industry will have to change in order to comply with Amazon. So, what is the best solution for handling these product compliance changes for your brand? As an experienced Amazon consultant, Rachel has some best practices and expert advice for staying compliant on Amazon while continuing to grow your brand to new heights. In this week's episode of the Buy Box Experts podcast, James Thomson sits down with Rachel Johnson Greer, the Founder and Managing Partner of Cascadia Seller Solutions, to talk about the steps third-party sellers can take to ensure compliance with Amazon's policies. Rachel shares how her company helps sellers grow on the marketplace, the key performance metrics that brands must pay attention to, and why you should start taking advantage of Amazon Live today. Stay tuned.
On this week's The Asian Seller podcast, I share the story of my life on Seller Sessions with Danny McMillan. Life hasn't been easy for me, but the experiences have shaped me into who I am today. I had a not-so-fun childhood, but that's what instilled in me a strong desire to be independent, financially stable and strong. I've had a successful corporate career working for an amazing company, Global Sources for over 19 years in 4 countries. I moved up the corporate ladder quickly with my dedication and hard work. But then life gave me a big blow when my husband suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack in 2017 leaving me to raise my then 6-year-old son. A year later, I was made redundant from my cushy corporate job, and had to search for a new path. I decided to venture into entrepreneurship in 2019, and I'm so glad I did! I'm extremely lucky and thankful that I found my tribe in ecommerce and Amazon FBA. The Asian Seller, and India Sourcing communities are what drive me today. My mission in life now is to build my own ecommerce business, and help others achieve their dreams of creating profitable, sustainable businesses. Wishing you best of luck in your ecommerce endeavours, and hope our paths will cross someday. This is the second part of our series on vetting Chinese suppliers which loosely follows the blog posts in this series that Renaud wrote before. In Episode 10 we explored the bad behaviours or trouble that the wrong supplier can cause, such as scamming you, raising prices dishonestly when they know you have little choice but to pay, or just not being competent enough to be able to produce your products correctly. Now that you know what you don't want from a supplier, what are some of the first steps you can take to weed out suppliers who aren't suitable? Adrian and Renaud discuss this initial vetting process, approaches, and some actionable tips here... Show Notes Introduction - we'll be discussing questions to ask and actions to take that can help avoid red flags when sourcing new Chinese suppliers (START to 2:40) The following tips are fairly unstructured, but can all be helpful as a part of your preliminary supplier vetting process... Test the water with a factory audit - a supplier should be secure enough to accept a factory audit. If not, then what are they hiding? Either way, conducting an audit teaches you a lot about your potential supplier's ability to do the job you need them to, and audits are affordable (2:40 to 6:20) - learn more about factory audits. Do a search engine search for the supplier - if they have behaved badly in the past, it's likely that there might be some articles or news about them online, so search their company name and see what you can find (6:20 to 8:45) Is the supplier's online information consistent? - a red flag is where the supplier has different information on Alibaba, Global Sources, etc. If they don't match, why not? You can also see verified information about the supplier on these platforms, so it's a good place to see what they're offering very quickly (8:45 to 13:07) - For anyone thinking of sourcing suppliers based on Alibaba's recommendations alone, Renaud wrote about 'Why An Alibaba Gold Supplier Status Doesn't Mean Anything' here. Has the supplier consistently participated in trade shows? - if they have it is evidence that they are a legitimate supplier as trading companies, very small, or unprofessional businesses may not do this (13:07 to 13:45) Try purchasing a sample and insist on paying to their company account and collecting the sample from their address - by doing so you can confirm 2 things: 1. That they are who they say they are because you collect from their address (is it a factory, apartment building, office downtown? If it's the latter two you could have an issue). If they do request you to pay to a personal bank account, or maybe one in Hong Kong, this is a red flag, too - as a legitimate company should be able to provide a real business bank account (13:45 to 17:30) Check the business in the Chinese government database - you will need the company's Chinese name and address, but with this (and the ability to read Chinese) you can learn a lot about the supplier, such as their company size, the scope of work they do, the investment capital (a low amount suggests they aren't a manufacturer), and any past or present court cases and decisions against them and the reasons, too (17:30 to 20:02) - performing a legal records check on the supplier is a fast and inexpensive way to check for this helpful information. Check if the company holds any trademarks or patents in their own name - if it doesn't look like they do a lot of R&D but they have trademarks, patents, etc, this is a possible red flag. Have they been taking IP from past customers and registering it in China under their own name without their knowledge? (20:02 to 21:34) Request the supplier's business license - it will be in Chinese, but it contains a lot of the useful information listed above if you can read Chinese. If not, get someone knowledgeable to analyze it (there should be a QR code on them which shows the registered info online). A good point is to check if they have an export license, too. If they do not, they'd have to deal with an intermediary which can add some risk of IP-leakage, etc (21:34 to 23:48) Check their ISO 9001 certificate - this is common in China now, but you should ask for the certificate which you can verify with the issuing body and also the manual which should list the quality objectives and scope of the Quality Management System is - this is not suitable for people with no understanding of it, but at least be aware of this certificate's veracity if the supplier claims to hold it (23:48 to 25:53) Question them about how they protect your IP - do you have a standard agreement for customers like us? How do you protect my IP? Many importers do NOT ask these questions! If they do provide an agreement, get you lawyer (familiar with Chinese law) to check it and assure that it's enforceable (25:53 to 27:56) Ask for reference customers - who do they work with? You can learn a lot from this, although it's not always practical for suppliers to give too much of this information away (27:56 to 31:00) What is the typical order quantity and quality standard? - if they deal with huge companies who place much larger orders than you will, you may have to expect a lower standard of quality than you're expecting. So the supplier's 'level' should be appropriate to where you're at as a business (31:00 to 32:30) Familiarity with export standards - if they are unaware or lack understanding of the standards surrounding the products they make (such as UL standard for batteries), this is a red flag (32:30 to 33:19) How is their communication? - real manufacturers may not have the best communication. If they do, you may be dealing with a trading company. However, don't discount a manufacturer where their English isn't perfect, as it is fairly normal (33:19 to 34:50) Conclusion - Buying in China for the first can be confusing, so talk to other importers or find someone with experience who can provide some advice - keep eyes open, do due diligence, gather intelligence - these are three key takeaways (34:50 to END) - We also mentioned the book, 'Poorly Made In China' - this is a modern classic that gives great insight into the (many) things that can go wrong when you start manufacturing in China! Today's Podcast is with Merle Hinrich, founder of Global Sources and the Hinrich Foundation. The Hinrich Foundation was established by Merle A. Hinrich in 2012, a global business leader and philanthropist. Mr Hinrich dedicated his 60-year career in Asia to facilitating the participation of emerging Asian economies in trade, driven by the belief that global trade helps break down barriers between nations by creating mutual interest, understanding and trust. Mr. Hinrich’s journey started in 1964, when he was granted a scholarship to study at the American Institute of Foreign Trade – which is now called the Thunderbird School of Global Management. The school’s mantra – “Border frequented by trade seldom need soldiers” – left a powerful imprint on the young graduate, and inspired his future endeavors. Subsequent work experiences in Japan, Taiwan and Korea in the 1960s further shaped his belief that trade promotes growth and development. By 1970 his first venture was born: Asian Sources, which later became Global Sources, a B2B trade media company to facilitate business transactions between Asian manufacturers and Western customers. A scholarship program was subsequently created to build talent in trade and support that goal. After spending more than three decades assisting companies and countries from Japan to Pakistan with their export development, Mr. Hinrich’s view of free, fair, and reciprocal trade started to evolve. He began to see how critically important it was for trade to be mutually beneficial with balanced economic, social and environmental outcomes for long-term peace and prosperity. He created the Hinrich Foundation to build leadership in trade, to research and to promote the conditions for making trade more sustainable.

Is Private Label still a viable business model in 2019? It is still viable - if you can invent something, it does give you a major advantage. PL still works but not in commodities. And you need to differentiate. You can't just put your logo on something from Alibaba. Read the reviews and you'll have to work with the manufacturer to fix that You can differentiate with packaging, bundling, etc. You have to put up a bit of a moat. Kevin has done both PL - He's sold millions on Amazon - never had a counterfeiter or hijackers. Strong imagery, packaging. Always customized - He had an idea for a product - got someone on Upwork in Argentina -did CAD for $400. $3000 for a mold for each. It's done really really well -nobody Back in 2015 when iWatch came out - docks on amazon - bamboo - plastic etc. They all looked like crap! Nightlight - had cables in back etc. sketched it out. - found a factory on Global Sources $1000 - they said they would do ALL the design work. Sent him 3D renderings - tweaked it - would download file - took it to guy in Austin who did a 3D mockup Made sure product worked Went to apple store - checked the watch bands worked. Did another round Did 10 prototypes Then went to production $37K mould cost $22 Landed - sell on Amazon for $89.95 At some point went down to $79.95 but still workable. Xmas 2015 - $16,000 -18,000 a day in Sales!! Product selection It's not just about the budget, you have to have the margin Eg sells for $19.95 - landed cost of $12. Or They say “$8” but they haven't included freight etc. You need a 4-5X markup if it's under $100. If it's under that, chances of success go way down. You have to differentiate His Apple Watch thing This was in a saturated market - probably 10,000 results! You have to get into the mind of Apple people -they will pay high! For the word “apple doc” he kept getting bumped off page 1. But he was on longer tail keywords Big mistake - going after huge keywords Find products that have lots of ways in! 50 windows in, back door, side door At least 20 keywords in the top 1 million* - in the USA at least 20 keywords with over 600 unique searches (“exact”) If you have only one way in, *Search Frequency Rank (SFR) - is like a total BSR for categories - similar to BSR for EVERYTHING on Amazon. It's easy to get to page 1 It's easier with PPC You can get a handful of reviews coming in. You can fix issues with product or listing. Then you can start targeting the higher keywords. If you make sure you have said “Apple iWatch doc” in the title. If the word “apple charging station” is also in the title SO if you get 10 sales on the low-level keywords, you rank equivalent to 1 sale for the higher level keyword. Helium10 - you can search on “Black Box” based on keywords You used to look via products $x dollars Now you can use the keyword search tool - gamechanger. Most people don't know how to use the tools well. Like driving car - vs. F1 car on the track. This is a numbers business! If you're not good with data analysis Let's say we have someone who has done some retail arbitrage or eBay selling but is new to Private Label products. Where should they start the process of product selection? How important is it to care about the products? Should you be a user of the products yourself? There's nothing wrong with that - if sees a product, he'll type it into amazon - no tools, just BSR. Found one or two products that way. Should you start with numbers? The majority of products have come from data analysis. Based around keyword demand. believes ”all product selection should start with keyword demand” Apple Watch on JS - not too many reviews; big demand. But are they making their sales off “Apple Watch doc” You need to figure out what is driving the sales.

Welcome To Episode #123 of the Amazon FBA Private Label Show Podcast! In this episode I share my tips for finding and dealing with great suppliers for my e-commerce business. Listen to this Amazon FBA Podcast! [powerpress] Tips For Finding and Dealing with Great Suppliers - Amazon FBA EP123 Once you find a great product that you want to start selling on Amazon FBA you need to find an equally great supplier that can make it for you. Using a bad supplier can result in poor product quality, missed deadlines, poor communication and ultimately poor product sales. The search for finding a great supplier can be a frustrating and time consuming process. Randomly searching sites like Alibaba, Global Sources and Thomas Net aren't always effective as there are often lots of bad suppliers to weed through. It is essential that you find great suppliers for your e-commerce or Amazon FBA business to succeed. Here are my tips to finding a great supplier: If you are using Alibaba, Global Sources, Thomas Net etc... Look to see how long the supplier has been in business. Try to avoid suppliers without a long track record of business. How much business is a supplier currently getting? How well are their websites put together and organized? If you are using Alibaba check to see if they are a Gold Supplier, have an Onsite Check completed, accept Trade Assurance Check the company profile pages to further inspect the business A quicker and more efficient way of finding a supplier is to search the import records of top sellers. Make a list of the top players in your niche and search to find their company and brand names. Use sites like Panjiva.com or similar to search import records If you have the Jungle Scout Web App then you now have this functionality built in. Use it to save tons of time. If sellers are consistently using certain suppliers for a lot of order then that is a good sign. WATCH THIS VIDEO Once you have a list of 3 - 5 potential suppliers to work with you need to start reaching out to them. You need to test them and see how well they respond to your inquiry. This is all about narrowing down to find the right supplier that is gonna meet your needs and be easy to work with. I usually have a set list of questions that I send to each supplier. Here are some of the basic questions I like to ask. It's also important that you number the questions as it makes it easy for the supplier to read and respond to you. Sample Questions How much are samples? Is the sample fee refundable with an order? What are the different packaging options you offer? Can I customize the product and private label the product? How long does it take for a typical order to be completed? What are the payment options you accept? Once you send off these questions you just now wait to see how they respond. If you don't get a response then cross them off your list. You are simply gauging their answers and communication here. As I progress with the communication I may start to talk to them about price and MOQ information. How much per unit for 500, 1000, 2000, 5000? Tell them you want to place a "starter order" of a relatively small quantity to test their product and services. If everything goes smooth then you will place larger orders. Always frame everything as Win-Win for both parties. If you are going to start negotiating lower prices then explain your reasoning and how it would benefit them long term. You can check sites like 1688.com for potential pricing comparison. It's worth noting that being to aggressive on pricing can backfire on you if you don't have any rapport built up. Here are some important points to always keep in mind: Ask them if they have a full product catalog/PDF they can send you. Many times the supplier won't have a fully updated website as they are adding new products all the time. Kindness goes a long way so be kind! Always have clear communication and avoid using slang Focus and tell the supplier that you want to build a long term business partnership that is mutually beneficial. Build rapport with your supplier representative Ask them personal stuff about themselves Praise and compliment them often Share personal stuff about yourself with them Share any fun pictures or videos when necessary FINAL NOTE: It's often the goal of many sellers to want to find the supplier with the lowest prices. From my experience that isn't always the best idea as many suppliers will cut corners on materials and packaging to compensate. I am usually willing to spend a little more money per unit if I know the supplier can deliver exactly what I am asking for in a timely manner. I will also be willing to spend more to work with certain suppliers if I know dealing with them is going to be easy. So price is important but don't sacrifice quality because if you do that could lead to poor product reviews and a poor customer experience. Not a member of the Facebook Mastermind group yet? Going to trade shows is by far our favorite method of sourcing. I can tell you so many reasons right now why we prefer it over everything else, but I'd be getting ahead of myself. Some of the trade shows I absolutely love going to are those hosted by Global Sources. Much like Alibaba, Global Sources is a frequented supplier directory on the internet. However, unlike Alibaba, Global Sources is usually thought of as having higher quality, vetted suppliers. Global Sources also runs a conference, the Global Sources Summit, which is one of the biggest events geared towards ecommerce sellers importing from China. Our guest for today's episode is Meghla Bhardwaj, Head of Content Marketing of Global Sources and organizer of the summit. Meghla is no stranger to the podcast; she has been a guest on Episode 63 and Dave interviewed her last year, which you can read about here. Our conversation revolves around two topics: results of a survey carried out by Global Sources on trade show attendees and tips and best practices on how to improve sourcing. Conversation points: Results of the survey carried out on two groups: traditional non-ecommerce sellers and ecommerce sellers (the goal of the survey is to learn the top challenges importers are facing so that the Global Sources team can address their needs better) How some importers don't have a set agenda when roaming trade shows--they look for inspiration and new ideas instead The advantages of attending a trade show over simply sourcing online Supplier selection criteria of ecommerce importers 3 things importers should do to improve sourcing What to do to ensure quality Global Sources summit event details Global Sources Summit The summit will run from April 18th-20th in Hong Kong, overlapping with the trade show that runs from the 18th to the 21st. You can reserve your spot here, and use the special EcomCrew discount code ECC100 to get $100 off your ticket price. The summit will also have the following events: Workshops - day before the summit, with topics such as Facebook marketing, Amazon PPC, and a beginners workshop Mastermind Break out sessions for beginners Dave and I will both be speaking at the Global Sources Summit and we are definitely looking forward to it. We'd love to see you there and connect; don't forget to use ECC100 when you purchase your ticket to get a $100 discount. We will also be hosting our very first EcomCrew mastermind in Hong Kong. If you'll be in Asia around this time, sign up for our mastermind here. We'd love to meet up and talk shop with you. Our months of hard work have finally paid off! We are happy to announce that the following courses are open for registration: Build a 7-Figure Product Brand Import From China Like a Pro And to kick things off, we have Dave Bryant from literally the other side of the world on the podcast to talk about the course and the carefully curated content that's waiting for you on the other side. And if that's not a treat in itself (you guys know how hard it is to get Dave on the podcast), we're offering the two courses for the price of just one, for a limited time only. I don't want to sound any more salesy than I already do, so here are some conversation points for today's episode: Update on Dave's new offroading brand What Dave and I are up to Our shared belief that strict product labeling is dead, and our strategies moving forward The benefits of product differentiation, both in sales and protection Dealing with suppliers and packaging hacks What to look for in a niche Validating products Tips on starting a brand Our respective revenue expectations when first launching a product This episode is kind of a preview, so many of the things we talk about here are discussed in more depth in our courses. If you've bought one of our courses previously, just send us an email at support@ecomcrew.com so we can upgrade your access for FREE. Also, we have a lot going on for you in the next couple of months. First off is our webinar on March 6th, which you can sign up for here, if you haven't already. Dave and I are also speaking at Global Sources in Hong Kong in April, and since we'd love nothing more than meeting new people and discussing all things ecommerce, we are hosting EcomCrew's very first mastermind on April 21st in Hong Kong. So if you are going to Global Sources and have some free time, we'd love to meet up with you then. Register here! "Definitely I would be vigilant like in an initial screening process. I know most online sellers probably don't have the luxury of being able to see all of their factories but if they do, if they do go to Canton Fair, I highly recommend it. Just so you know what you're dealing with and if you're not comfortable with that, definitely have some backup plans." - Gary Huang, founder of 80/20 Sourcing One of the best perks of going to the Global Sources Summit is that I get to meet many people who are a wealth of knowledge for my business. One of these people is Gary Huang, founder of 80/20 Sourcing, a blog dedicated to show entrepreneurs how to source from China efficiently and cost-effectively. I heard him speak at Global Sources and I knew I just had to invite him to be a podcast guest so that I can share with you the valuable things I learned from him. Gary lives in China and this episode was recorded via a call I made to him from California. The call quality suffered from the Chinese internet connection which, as you know, is not exactly zippy. Nevertheless, this episode is fully packed with great value for anyone who imports anything from China so it will be worth powering through the bad call quality to get to the good stuff. Gary's topic at the Global Sources Summit is about supplier negotiation. There are so many things you can negotiate with your supplier aside from price of goods, and we talk about that a little bit in this episode. As a bonus, Gary has been awesome to give EcomCrew listeners access to his Negotiations pack, which includes the Online Seller's Guide to Negotiating with Suppliers e-book, a negotiations cheatsheet, and a "Secrets of Successful Sourcing" Masterclass video. You can get them all here for FREE. Here are the highlights of our conversation: Gary's ecommerce background and why he started 80/20 Sourcing Why he moved to China and what it's like living in the midst of pollution His direct insight on the ongoing factory shutdowns The positive and negative effects of stricter Chinese environmental laws How to deal with the shutdowns as an Amazon seller Why visiting your factory or doing a third party inspection is very important Direction of Chinese manufacturing Is it a good idea to start sourcing from other countries such as India or Vietnam? Outlook and best practices for sourcing for 2018 We hope you find this episode useful, as I did when I listened to Gary during his Global Sources talk. Don't forget to go to 8020sourcing.com/ecomcrew to get you FREE Negotiations pack. "Sometimes you have to do something that makes you uncomfortable to further your career and your life and I really believe that." - Mike Jackness on speaking at the Global Sources Summit This episode is a play-by-play report of my entire trip to Asia, covering the Global Sources Summit, the Canton Fair, meeting with our Philippines team -- basically everything my team and I did while we were in Asia from early October through early November. If you're like me who doesn't like following someone's life abroad on an hour-by-hour basis, then this episode probably isn't for you. But if you are in ecommerce and have never been to these events in Asia before (or you're just curious about what we do there), this will give you a pretty good overview of what it's like to be on the road, traveling back and forth between cities to attend fairs and meet people, things you might need to do if you are serious in growing your importing business. These are the highlights of my nearly month-long trip: getting on a ridiculously luxurious first class flight to Hong Kong for about $50 hiking and exploring Hong Kong during my first few days there the ill-timed typhoon my presentation at the Global Sources Summit where I was rated as the number 1 speaker (this just goes to show that you can accomplish anything once you set your mind to it) EcommerceFuel meetups, masterminds, and new plans to take EcomCrew to the next level visiting my Philippines team going to the Canton Fair the amazing people I met from the ecommerce community My wife Michelle, our Director of Ecommerce Jacqueline, and I crammed so many activities during our time in Asia that when we arrived back in San Diego we were all absolutely drained. These trips are very productive and rewarding, but be warned -- it can also be terribly exhausting. Nevertheless, trips like this are very valuable for entrepreneurs looking for serious growth. The trick is laying out what you want to accomplish while you're there, which for me, are three things: meeting as many like-minded people/entrepreneurs as possible, touring as many factories as possible, and building as many relationships as you can with the people you already work with. Resources mentioned: AsiaInspection Stamped.io Thanks for listening to this episode! If you can, please leave an honest feedback on iTunes and reach out to us at support@ecomcrew.com. Until next episode, happy selling!
This week's episode is a special one, as it's one of the few episodes where I get to have Dave on the show. Better yet, we are sitting in the same room in Hong Kong, just a couple of days after the Global Sources Summit where we both had a blast. Hopefully videos of the talks will be released soon for those who were not able to attend the event. We have many takeaways from our time in Hong Kong but one of the most eye-opening is just how much Chinese sellers are invading the Amazon market. They've grown comfortable using Amazon FBA and have become sophisticated in their marketing techniques. Adding to this is the fact that more and more of these sellers are using downright black-hat techniques to try to win more sales. This topic is just one of the 5 key takeaways Dave and I will talk about in this episode. Here are other conversation points: What Chinese sellers are doing to get market share and what you can do to protect your sales Amazon's cross-border program and how American sellers can benefit from it Black-hat tactics employed by many Chinese sellers PPC optimization Increasing pollution crackdowns by the Chinese government and how it can affect you Increasing Chinese labor costs With Chinese sellers getting on the Amazon train and recent factory crackdowns, we might be facing a challenging time ahead. You might be tempted to attempt black-hat techniques like other sellers are doing to stay on top, but keep in mind that the dire consequences make it hardly worth doing. We highly encourage you to stay on Amazon's good side. Resources mentioned: Global Sources ams.amazon.com Stamped.io AsiaInspection We hope you enjoy Episode 93 of the EcomCrew Podcast. Today's episode is a pre-recorded episode. At the time of this podcast, Dave and I are attending Global Sources. These pre-recorded episodes are a great opportunity to interview some highly successful ecom business owners. My guest today is one of those highly successful ecommerce entrepreneurs. Dana Jaunzemis is the owner of Homehealthtesting.com. She purchased the business at a time when she saw the potential for profitability. That eye for good business decisions seems to be Dana's superpower. This is her seventh business she has purchased and she has owned it for seven years. On today's episode, Dana tells me what draws her to ecommerce and why she feels she is so well suited for it. Dana has some great insights into ecommerce business. Tune for some solid advice from this awesome entrepreneur! Here are some of the points of our conversation: Why Dana likes ecommerce so much. Dana's addiction to the “growth phase” of business. What Dana looks for in a business opportunity. What caused her to shift her perspective on her business. Why a company should have a “comfort zone.” Why Mike likes to focus on growth. Why Dana likes the business to business model. Problems a large amount of overhead can cause a business. Dana's top 3 skills set. The importance of knowing your metrics. How to be more efficient in your business. Is being “addicted” to growth a bad thing? The dangers of “hyper-growth.” Why ecommerce conferences and meetups are so important to the community. A special thank you to Dana Jaunzemis for joining us today! She and I will both be attending EcommerceFuel Live in January. For more information on that event, check out the link below. We will be getting back to live episodes on Facebook soon, but at the moment Dave and I are traveling a lot, so please follow our page for updates. We get a lot of questions about what services and applications we use in our day to day business. Today I'm going to give our listeners a list of tools and services that really help us stay on top of our business. To begin with, we have four brands under the EcomCrew umbrella. The four brands are Colorit.com, Icewraps.com, Wild Baby, and Tactical.com. We use all these tools to run every brand and keep track of our customers' needs. Here is a list of those tools: Shopify -- Every brand we have is built on Shopify. It is the best platform we have found for running an ecommerce business. I will explain how we came to that conclusion during the episode. Stamped.io -- We use Stamped.io to get good quality reviews. Of course, they are a sponsor of the podcast, but we use their service because it is the best value. Zipify Pages -- If we are running a promotion or sale, Zipify is the tool we use to build the landing page. Shoelace -- This app allows us to create retargeting ads fast and easy! Rewind -- A tool we use to make sure we have system backups. Skubana -- This app gathers up our orders and distributes them to the right fulfillment station. It is a big time saver. I'm a little frustrated with Skubana, to be honest, but I will get into that during the episode. Klaviyo -- If you are a long time listener, you know I use Klaviyo a lot. It is a time-saving tool that makes email marketing a lot easier. ClickFunnels -- ClickFunnels is a service that helps keep track of our special promotion and contest email campaigns. AdEspresso -- An essential tool for creating great Facebook ads. Quickbooks Online -- The service we use to keep our books. Gleam.io and Up-Viral -- We use both for contest promotions. Phone.com -- This app redirects customer service calls to personal or designated phone numbers, so we can settle customer issues more efficiently. Sellics -- An Amazon based tool that is similar to Skubana. Splitly -- A split testing app. Jungle Scout -- A service we use to research new products and current market trends. RestockPro -- A tool that helps track our inventory and helps us plan reorders with plenty of time to spare! Basecamp -- The newest addition to our toolbox. Basecamp is a project management tool that allows us to keep in touch with all team members, no matter where they are based. So there you have it, our list of tools and services that help us keep the EcomCrew machine humming. I recently did some traveling on the east coast and I attended an EcommerceFuel meetup and met some great people. So hello, to all of you I met up with earlier! We have also released our first course on EcomCrew.com! The course is called Build A $1,000,000 Private Label Business Importing Kickass Products From China, if you are interested in the importing business, check out the link below. As a reminder, I will be speaking at Global Sources (discount code: ec350) during October 17-19 and I will be attending and speaking at EcomerceFuel Live during January 11-13. Please keep in mind that with all this travel the live Facebook shows will be postponed, but there will still be pre-recorded episodes. In closing, we also have a second sponsor for this episode, AsiaInspection. Dave and I both use AsiaInspection for our overseas shipments. They provide a very important service for anyone needing to double check the quality of their shipments. Today's episode covers a lot of information. I want to give our listeners updates on several contests, site launches, and other business-related topics. My guest today is C.J. Rosenbaum, C.J. is a lawyer who specializes in helping Amazon sellers reinstate their accounts with Amazon. Having an issue with Amazon can be a real headache. Unfortunately, issues will come up for any seller at any time. It doesn't matter how careful you are, there will be complaints that Amazon will have to address. That is where C.J. comes in to help you know your rights and basically give you someone in your corner. On today's episode, C.J. tells us about the 3 most common issues Amazon sellers deal with when their accounts are suspended. He also tells us how to fight back. Here are today's conversation points: How C.J. and I met. Why having a lawyer through the Amazon process is a good idea. The top 3 issues for Amazon sellers. What does Amazon mean by “inauthentic?” How to fight an “inauthentic” claim. What is intellectual property and how to approach your accuser. How to disprove a “used sold as new” claim. How Arbitration can help Amazon Sellers. When to use Arbitration. If you find yourself in need of C.J.'s services visit www.amazonsellerslawyer.com. Dave joins me today for a debate. Is it better to have an office space for your company or not? We have slightly different views on this subject. I personally like the professionalism of an office space and warehouse. Dave likes the freedom of working remotely and outsourcing. We compare our reasons for why we have our preferences and give our listeners some pros and cons of both business styles. There is nothing wrong with either business approach. We simply want to explore our personal work styles, so that maybe you can decide which one best fits your situation. Here are some points from our conversation: Dave's upcoming move to Asia. Why Dave has decided to work from home. Why I prefer having my staff in an office setting. Dave's office space blunder. Why a company should avoid overhead whenever possible. The benefits of renting a co-working space. How Treadmill.com pushed me into finding warehouse space. The problems of running a brick and mortar location. Should you hire an employee first, or rent an office first? How modern business culture has changed. How renting a warehouse can cause problems for your business. The benefits of outsourcing to a warehouse company. Why you need to focus on your company's strengths. The pros and cons of hiring remote employees. Hey there! It's Mike and I'm back from Asia. I'm going to take today's episode as an opportunity to give an honest account of my trip. For full disclosure, I was given a ticket to this event by the event coordinator. Meghala Bhardwaj was a guest on our show awhile back. The conditions she gave were I had to give an honest reaction and review of my experience. I was going to do that anyway, so it was a win-win for me. I was gone for a month, which is the longest I've been in Asia. Unfortunately, I spent this trip incredibly sick. So, I missed the Global Sources meet-up, but that was it. I really pushed myself to get out and network and I had some really great interactions during this trip. I attended two major trade shows while I was gone: The Global Sources Summit The Canton Fair I heard some good speakers and got some really useful practical advice. Here are some of the things from today's episode: Phases 2 and 3 of The Global Sources Summit. My experience, the speakers, and the networking. Great advice I received about dealing with Chinese manufacturers. Useful information for selling internationally. My biggest takeaway from The Global Sources Summit. How I celebrated my birthday. My trip to Cebu and the office I have over there for my employees. My awesome Filipino workforce. I will be attending Sellers' Summit in Fort Lauderdale, FL this month. I will speak on Friday and host a Mastermind on Thursday. If you plan on attending, I will see you there! Welcome back to The Amazing Seller Podcast and thanks for checking out the show notes page for this great episode about product sourcing. In this great conversation I’m talking with Peter Zapf, an employee of Global Sources, a company that works directly with Chinese and other Asian manufacturing companies to make their products available to retailers, ebayers, and Amazon sellers. We’re going to take a deep dive into the process that Global Sources has put in place to enable to you to skip the middle man (agents) and talk directly to the supplier of the products you want to sell. How is Global Sources different than Alibaba? Global Sources is a company that’s been around for many, many years and today’s guest, Peter Zapf has been working with the company for over 15 years. He tells us on this episode that the primary difference between Global Sources and other suppliers for the Asian manufacturing market is that GS works directly with the manufacturer - no agents involved at all. So if you were to search for a supplier for your product, you’d be dealing with the actual company that makes it. You can see how that could cut down on the possibility of confusion when ordering customized aspects of your products. Listen in to this episode to find out how Peter suggest you best utilize the platform. How does Global Sources work with test orders? Today's guest, Peter Zapf says that his company, Global Sources, is a great platform for working with manufacturers in Asia to find products that you can trust. Very much like Alibaba, Global Sources manufacturers enables you to order smaller quantities as a test order so that you can get to know the product quality and understand the process of each manufacturer that you contact. Peter suggests that you contact more than one manufacturer as you research your product ideas to make sure that you are getting the best deal and the best quality on the product. Hear about this new supplier that you may not of heard of before, on this episode of The Amazing Seller. What are the benefits of working directly with a product supplier? Global Sources is a China based company that works directly with Asian manufacturers to provide products for retailers and independent sellers. Their connections are with the manufacturers, not independent agents or agencies. That means that when you work with a supplier through Global Sources, you are able to work directly with the people who are creating the product you want. That makes modifications and customization much easier, and the communication process more smooth. Find out more benefits of working with a company like Global Sources on this episode of The Amazing Seller. Scams to watch out for when working with product suppliers.
