Intentions are important, sure—but they're useless if you don't back them up with real, concrete action. Kehla doesn't sugarcoat it: clinging to the idea of impact without actually moving forward is just an excuse to stay stuck, and it's sabotaging your business's potential. She calls out the tendency to dodge responsibility for inaction and lays out no-nonsense advice to break free from this cycle. Welcome to the BBG podcast, episode 70! In today's episode, Ben dives deep into the concept of flow with Kevin Scheepers, founder of FlowMade and GameWell. If you've ever wondered how to enhance collaboration in your dev teams or struggled with balancing a chaotic calendar, this episode is for you. Kevin shares his passion for creating high-functioning game studios by focusing on organizational flow. Key Points:   Understanding Flow: Flow is an optimal state where individuals perform and feel their best. Kevin highlights that it's an active state, merging awareness with the activity. You won't ALWAYS be in flow.   Individual vs. Organizational: Individual flow requires focus and uninterrupted work. Organizational flow needs team alignment towards a shared goal.     Triggers and Blockers: Flow is triggered by a balance between challenge and skill. Blockers include stress and distractions; “eustress” can enhance performance.   Creating an Environment: Leaders can foster flow by setting clear goals and reducing distractions. Balancing team and individual needs is crucial for maintaining flow.   Compliment: Ironically, compliments can disrupt flow by shifting focus to the self. Kevin suggests praising the work rather than the person to sustain flow.     Leadership: Leadership is key to nurturing flow, requiring clear communication. Understanding the organization at both macro and micro levels supports flow. Kevin Scheepers leaves us with valuable advice on designing game studios that thrive on flow, encouraging leaders to map out their team's strengths and challenges. By understanding the unique makeup of your team and the processes that drive flow, you can unlock new levels of creativity and productivity in game development. Rhode Island has allocated hundreds of millions of dollars in recent years to produce more housing. But relatively little new construction has happened so far, and some cities and towns resist attempts to get them to welcome more residents. The median price of a single-family home in Rhode Island was $440,000 in February, an almost 15 percent increase from a year earlier. The high cost of housing leaves many people on the outside of home ownership, looking in, squeezing out those with less money. So what will it take for the state to make more progress, and how long? I'm Ian Donnis, and this week I'm going in-depth with Rhode Island Secretary of Housing Stefan Pryor.

Today I'm thrilled to welcome my dear friend, Helen Hall back to the podcast. Helen is a movement therapist, a running coach, a pain expert and one of the best coaches in any modality that I have ever come across. She has had a lifelong passion for analysing posture and movement, and her clients include elite athletes, whether they be runners, cyclists or premier league footballers, but also everyday folk who simply want to walk or run pain-free. She combines objective clarity from the most advanced motion analysis technology in the world, with 46 years of visual experience and study in the field, to seek out the root causes of chronic pain and injury, that often seem resistant to standard treatment protocols. In order to help more people than those able to visit her in person, she first shared her movement philosophy in her wonderful book ‘Even With Your Shoes On'. She has gone on to create a series of online videos to help more people move pain-free. Helen has also launched an online course called ‘PFM Pilot' which is getting fantastic reviews - it is aimed at both professionals working in the field of movement, pain and injury, and also amateurs who are keen to learn more and help themselves.Helen first came on my podcast on Episode 216 in November 2021 and many of you got in touch to say how helpful the tools shared in that episode were. In this conversation, we continue where we left off:We talk again about the vital importance of our head position – and how to become aware of how you're holding your own head, if you're struggling to know.We bust the myth that running is bad for your knees. We discuss walk-run strategies and how they can help all of us reduce injury, recover more quickly and run faster. We discuss why ‘foot wiping' - a very simple practice that I do on most days - could help you move with more ease.We talk about the importance of spending time barefoot. We discuss minimalist shoes and why we are both big fans. Since I began working with Helen she's become a cherished friend, whose wisdom and insights cover much more than walking and running. Her message for this brilliant episode is straightforward and optimistic: think about your head, think about your feet – and don't assume that you can no longer move without pain. She is an inspiring lady, this is an inspiring conversation, I hope you enjoy listening. Thanks to our sponsors:https://drinkag1.com/livemorehttps://shopify.com/livemorehttps://vivobarefoot.com/livemorehttps://calm.com/livemoreShow notes https://drchatterjee.com/434DISCLAIMER: The content in the podcast and on this webpage is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. In today's episode, I discuss my pet theory on the subject, namely: the perception of the rate of time is inversely correlated with the expenditure of cognitive resources. This means that time seems to move slower when we engage in bottom-up processing, and faster when we engage in top-down processing. Of course, the "movement" of time is an illusion, but that's the subject of another video... What's the key element often forgotten by leaders when driving innovation?   In the episode of the Creator Community, we meet innovation consultant and author Matt Mueller who shares his key principles for leading and driving change.   Broad acceptance of your idea both internally and externally is critical to making it happen.   Focusing on the root of the true problem rather than pushing your solution is just one of the key lessons of today's episode and one of the most important things leaders can do to drive true innovation and change.   Key Points Slowing down and thinking through the “why” of a problem will ultimately save time and iteration on the back end Build a better foundation before you build a tower SEATbelt analogy: Stop and think about the real problem, find your Emotional connection to the problem, Acknowledge the problem is real, Tell others your plan to chage   Author Bio From a young age Matt wondered what separated people who create change from everyone else. With 8 billion people in the world how can there be so few change makers?   Obsessed with this question, Matt grew into an energetic innovator focused on helping others create change. He is an innovation consultant working with some of the world's largest brands and is a columnist for Innovation Leader. Matt has long-term experience executing strategy and facilitating change and is passionate about sharing his insights with leaders across the globe, helping them transform company culture to meet their innovation needs more purposefully.   Matt also loves spending time on one of the many local gulf beaches of Florida reconnecting to what matters most, Family.

When traveling between work and home on the subway, some of us often find ourselves wondering why it is that the handrail on the escalators moves faster than the steps themselves do. Well, this is not some kind of conspiracy but is in fact completely normal. So how does an escalator work? And why are those steps so steep anyway?  Our story begins in the 1890s – the early days of Coca Cola, Hershey's Chocolate, and motion pictures! A strange contraption is being built at New York's Coney Island Park. The thing travels along a 25° incline and only goes up 7 ft. Yet spectators back then were amazed by the futuristic Moving Stairs! It was the world's first escalator, and it was just a temporary amusement park attraction! But let's see how the modern escalator works! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

How to get people to care about your business as much as you do! Entrepreneurship can feel so lonely.  You carry all the weight on your shoulders.  Even If you're lucky enough to have a team, you can still feel like it's all up to you.  It can feel like people are just showing up to check off boxes and cash a paycheck but if something goes wrong, you're the one that has to fix it.  Your constantly putting out fires you didn't start.   I hear this over and over, “no one cares about my business as much as I do.  How do I get my team to want this as much as I do?” It feels like its impossible, yet you know that there has to be a better way, because this way isn't working.   The good news is it is possible, but there are a few steps you need to take to do it right.  So How do you get buy in? Share the vision and how they impact it Don't just share we're trying to hit 500 clients, or $750,000 in annual revenues.  Explain what that means.  Who do you help, how do you serve.  For us, we help people get their lives back that the business stole from them.  We not only change businesses but we change families.  Mom or dad get to eat family dinners without getting interrupted from work.  They don't have to miss important milestones in their family's life.  That's what we do.  Make sure they understand what their role specifically plays in that greater mission.  Make it be about them and not just you and your business.   Let them share in the perks Find people that want to create a partnership. Not a real partnership where they own a portion of your business, but a partnership where they win when they contribute to the company wins.  For instance, we work with a company for our paid youtube ads and when they get a kick back from our profit.  They are motivated for us to win because they win as well.  Or you can incentivize people based on actions.  If our free trials is what gets people to sign up for dance classes, how do I incentivize the desk to focus on trials?  Incentivize the activities that lead to company wins.  Showcasing a leaderboard can also sometimes spark a friendly competition and make people want to win.  Again, when they win the company wins! Hold them accountable  Most people need accountability.  But most small business owners are too busy to give it and things slip through the cracks.  Setting key performance indicators and checking them on a weekly basis will help show both the employee and the owner what is happening in the business.  True accountability is not letting things go that you know should be happening.  Set up a 1:1 meeting with each individual that reports to you.  If you have managers you'll want them to have a meeting with their direct reports and so on.  The manager needs to be reviewing KPI's on a weekly basis and having a discussion around it.   Did you love today's episode? 1.
