Tour De France for Idiots

Yet another brutal climb to finish the last meaningful day of the tour. Of course, we all wanted Pinot to take a victory on his 10th and final tour but, the old dog had no new tricks. Jonas is in yellow and we celebrate the glory of the tour tomorrow on the Champs Elysees. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through Stage 20 of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

Today we witnessed the rare, beautiful, and successful breakaway. The peloton with all of it's hammer heads at the front could not reel the lone four in but rest assured, it was a game of a few mere meters. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through Stage 18 of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

The firecracker lead that Jonas had just became an atomic bomb. WOW.... When they say "risking it for the biscuit" they are specifically talkin' about an all-yellow Jonas riding the time trial of a lifetime. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through Stage 16 of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

Admittedly, we were all a bit late to today's stage coverage but wildly enough, we all tuned in for the cell-phone-selfie crash. C'mon people! Get those phones off the race course. Aside from that drama, we are still locked in on a TIGHT GC battle and some SERIOUS mountain climbing. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through Stage 15 of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

Michal Kwiatkowski, the former World Champ and recently-turned "old dog" of the tour (a crazy thing to think about at 33 years old) pulled off a STEEP stage victory today. There are more mountain top finishes to come but a finish line on a 12% grade is far from flat. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through Stage 13 of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

Jasper Philipsen wins a 4th sprint finish! Although we continue to mourn a tour without Cav, we are NOT without our need for speed. That being said, we are getting close to the alps and things are about to get a little slower (albeit still incredibly impressive)! Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through Stage 11 of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

Today you learn a little about the hosts, the tour thus far, and why HANDUP (a historically mountain bike focused company) even started a Tour De France Podcast. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through the The first rest day!

Tour De France for Idiots

This podcast was recorded on a Sad-urday. Yes it is technically Saturday but, the sadness of Mark Cavendish crashing out of his final tour is nearly too much to handle. We love you Cav. Today is for the Manx Missile. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through the stage 8 recap of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

Almost everyone who has been on a group ride in their cycling career has experienced the moment they are left in the dust by another rider... Tadej Pogacar (aka Pudgy Carl) defined that action in a single moment of Tour De France history, today. Pogacar dropped Vingegaard harder than Snoop Dropped the hit Single Drop It Like it's Hot in 2004. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through the stage 6 recap!

Tour De France for Idiots

Happy 4th of July! There was no American victory (aside from the one way back when in 1776) but there was no English victory either. As for the highlight of the race, can you say "CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH CRASH". You hate to see it but it sure does add to the drama. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through the stage 4 recap of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, discuss the Sprint finish of Stage 3 and really dig deep on the overtly matchy-matchy attire of the various jerseys... and shorts... and shoes.. and socks. It's what we call "a lot". Continue tuning in to hear the takes you didn't know you needed on this year's 2023 Tour De France.

Tour De France for Idiots

At the end of the day, we felt as though Wout should have taken the win yet, we are talking about the Cofidis win.... And it's been a LONG time since we've talked about this. Tune is as the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, take us through the stage 2 of the 2023 Tour De France!

Tour De France for Idiots

HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, discuss the EPIC twin-win of stage 1 along with the general feedback of their first time podcasting. It's not even the 4th of July and we've got Fireworks all around! Continue tuning in to hear the takes you didn't know you needed on this year's 2023 Tour De France.

Tour De France for Idiots

In today's episode the HANDUP hosts, Jelly and Mustard, discuss, debate, and butcher every pronunciation in the pro peloton. This is the day before the first stage where they discuss who has potential, lack of team strategy, and what makes them qualified to discuss high level racing. Welcome to the Tour De France Podcast you didn't know you needed. Tune in to a recap of every race in this years 2023 Tour De France.

This week Dawson and Clint caught up with owner and co-founder of HANDUP Gloves, Cody Wallis. Growing up in a little town in Neveda with less than 1,000 people, Cody fell in love with two things: off-road motorcycle racing and his wife, Jamie! After they moved to Chattanooga and they both fell in love with mountain biking and the community of people associated with it. They also noticed that the gloves available at the time had much to be desired in both function and design. With Cody's background in motorcycle racing and his newfound passion for mountain biking, they set out to build one thing - a better glove! With a leap of faith and their $6,000 dollars in savings, they started their side hustle - HANDUP! Since then, it has grown into a thriving company that is adding new glove designs and apparel. This was a great conversation! Thanks for listening! Find all our episodes at dayfirepodcast.com This podcast is powered by ZenCast.fm

We made it to Episode 66 of the Behind the Golf Brand Podcast.  In this week's episode, I interview my good friend Troy Stewart the Vice President of Marketing for HandUp Gloves. If you are from the Mountain Biking world you would know HANDUP Gloves. Coming straight out of Chattanooga Tennessee they took over the biking world in HANDUP  Gloves in 2014. What began as bold, minimalist cycling gloves for mtb riders, cyclocross racers, and downhill riders has become much more. They have expanded into four separate glove weights to get you through the seasons, introduced a line of golf gloves in our other favorite pastime, and made apparel affordable for casual wearing, cycling, golfing, or just being active outside. As a company, they land somewhere between fast and fun. Their gear is used from average joes to pros without compromise. The HANDUP glove definitely has a shock factor straight out of the packaging. The visuals of the glove will be noticed by anyone right away. HANDUP gloves feel great and they are among some of the most durable gloves tested. This durability comes with a firmer feel when comparing them to AAA Cabretta style options but that is expected given the difference in prices.  The HANDUP gloves are a great option for players that want the diverse color set without paying for the most expensive glove models.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/golfersauthority)

On this episode we have the Troy from Handup Gloves. Troy is the marketing guy that runs the show over there and is willing to give us a sneak peak into what's under the hood over there. Handup has come a long way over the last few years. When they started, they were strictly a glove company with a fun saying on the palms and and wild designs on the gloves themselves. At the time, most gloves on the market were solid colors and not a lot of personality. Nowadays they have shirts, shorts, hats, pants, and of course matching socks. Last year I got the chance to meet Troy at Sea Otter and I assure you, this will be a fun episode. ►Featured Links http://bit.ly/2qdEoDL ::: Handup Gloves https://bit.ly/lahippack ::: Lab Austere Hip Pack *Discount Code: B1ker for 20% off ►B1KER Bar Podcast https://bit.ly/b1apple ::: iTunes https://bit.ly/b1gplay ::: Google Play https://bit.ly/b1soundc ::: SoundCloud https://bit.ly/b1spotify ::: Spotify ►Support B1KER http://patreon.b1ker.com ::: Patreon http://donate.b1ker.com ::: Donate http://shop.b1ker.com ::: B1KER Shop ►B1KER Social Media https://www.instagram.com/b1kerb1/ https://www.facebook.com/b1kerb1/ https://www.twitter.com/b1kerb1/

In today's episode, I want to share messages from my heart, given to me from God. I want to talk about how to overcome your struggles and help you understand that you are not alone. When you open yourself up to receive a hand up from God, you are open to do anything without fear. In 2012, as a single mom of 5 kids, I was so scared of being alone. Even though there is so much support for single mothers, I felt unsupported. I would pray every night for help to get me through the next day. It was through prayer and my experiences that I learned to reach up, not across. I opened a bakery out of my home and sold cattle out of my backyard. Through this, I learned confidence. This process taught me to look to God, look to your family, friends and peers and ask for their advice. I want to share with you my 4 steps to help reduce struggle. Try it for 3 days, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I call this method L.O.V.E. Look to God. Open your eyes and heart. Verify truth. Enjoy the ride. A miracle is a shift in perspective. Look to God and know that you can relate to Him. Be brave, open your eyes and heart to Him, and know that he will show you the way up. Look for the truth of the situation. The truth is what happened, not your feelings. Finally, strap in and enjoy the ride. Thank God for your blessings and for where you are. Know that wherever you are is where you are meant to be. Know that you will be greater for what you are going through. After having a great time at the legendary Jim Thorpe Mountain Bike Weekend, the pair decided that Dirt Rag was in a position to translate the magazine’s in-print stoke to an in-person “gathering of the tribe.”  The first edition of Dirt Fest took place in 1991 at Camp Soles, a YMCA youth camp east of Pittsburgh. The original event was decidedly chill. There was no vendor expo bristling with the bleeding edge of bicycle technology. Demo rides amounted to swapping bikes with a newfound friend. There was a lake, a bonfire, and a bicycle polo field. Nighttime entertainment consisted of an attendee strumming a guitar at the group bonfire—a far cry from The Earthtones jamming for a circus tent full of partying mountain bikers.  Read more about Dirt Fest HERE.

Ten years and over 1.5 Billion Dollars later 19,500 homeless people (about the size of the Castro neighborhood) have been moved off the street • But, in the 2014 survey of Homeless citizens, the number has remained almost the same over the past 2 years at around 6,686 people to a high estimate of 8,000 or almost 1% of the population of the City of San Francisco • Homeless Citizens have gone up 27% in some neighborhoods because of the pressure from gentrification. The population has become more visible in encampments, and open drug markets in neighborhood containment zones such as Civic Center and South of Market neighborhoods • The homeless population has become sicker older and includes more families • Students - children that are homeless in Calif doubled since 2010 and there are over 20 Thousand homeless students in the SF Bay Area • According to Ben Kauffman with the Office of Pupil Services at SF Unified School District around 4% of students are homeless which is estimated at over 2,000 students in the City of San Francisco In this episode, we feature the voices of: Chris Shaeffer, Program Director of HARTS City College of San Francisco’s Homeless At-Risk Transitional Students Program http://bit.ly/2JN3mV2 Angel Via – A City College of San Francisco student who is using the services of HARTS Sammie Rayner – Co-Founder of Handup http://bit.ly/2GoVFT0 Please rate us on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts and share this story with your friends. When it comes to social good, we often think we have to do something world-changing. In his book All the Trouble in the World, P. J. O'Rourke said “Everybody wants to save the earth; nobody wants to help Mom do the dishes.” If you think about it, that’s human nature. We love the grand gesture, the transformational speech or the disruptive technology. In the meantime, we pass homeless people on the street and we wonder what to do. I understand this feeling well. I’ve often been torn while thinking about how best to serve: do I give a homeless person cash, perhaps enabling them to practice alcoholism? Or, do I walk by without making eye contact? Well, HandUp has a different approach. Sammie Rayner is one of the cofounders of HandUp. You could say that the universe conspired to set her up for just this type of work. Her parents were business owners. As a young person, Sammie cared for her grandfather as he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. These two early influences seemed to set her on a journey to discover business models that do social good. As a college student, she heard Dr. Muhammad Yunus speak at her university. She also read his book Banker To The Poor. This sent Sammie on a journey of discovery. She dug into the concept of social enterprises and microfinance. In her research, she found that, despite the success of microfinance around the world, less than 5 percent of microfinance borrowers lived in Sub Saharan Africa. And of that small percentage, less than half of the loan resources were available to people in rural areas. This discovery led to the establishment of a microfinance non-profit, Lumana Credit, in 2009. Lumana was acquired by Sinapi Aba Trust (SAT) in April, 2013. By October of that same year, Sammie joined HandUp as a cofounder, joining Rose Broome and Zac Witte. HandUp is a platform for giving directly to people experiencing homelessness. They partner with more than 20 agencies who screen the campaigns. HandUp provides donors with a simple way to impact the lives of homeless neighbors. How big is this problem? According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, In January 2015, 564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States. Of that number, 206,286 were people in families. In just over two years, donors have helped over 1,500 people reach more than 4,000 goals and raise more than $1 million. That homeless person we were talking about at the beginning of this conversation? You can help them with a particular project. If you’re in San Francisco, you can even give them a safe gift card. And here's the thing. When we aggregate all of these small acts of social good, we really do change the world.  Social Entrepreneurship Quotes from Sammie Rayner: “These two influences seemed to always come up in my life of loving business, but also wanting to find a way to incorporate social change.” “Something I think really struck me. I’ve been working across the globe, and there’s this huge problem right here in the states.” “What I’ve learned from both ventures is the importance of starting really small.” “Incorporate the people you want to help as soon as possible.” “Get to know your homeless neighbors.” Social Entrepreneurship Resources:   HandUp: https://handup.org Titter: https://twitter.com/handup Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/handup.us Book: Banker To The Poor: Micro-Lending and the Battle Against World Poverty: http://amzn.to/1KWm896 Book: All the Trouble in the World: The Lighter Side of Overpopulation, Famine, Ecological Disaster, Ethnic Hatred, Plague, and Poverty: http://amzn.to/1PR4WP0 eBook: Five Key Traits of Successful Social Entrepreneurs: http://tonyloyd.com/socent Try Audible and Receive Two Free Audiobooks: http://tonyloyd.com/books

(Note: this podcast was recorded in December, 2014) November and December bring multiple holidays and celebrations, one or several of which find participation by nearly every U.S. citizen.  It's a time for reflection, for thankfulness, for kindness and generosity, for family and friends.  For many, it's a time that brings anxiety, frustration, and myriad reminders of misfortune, mistreatment, and challenges.  This is particularly true for our veterans.  The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, with data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, estimates that approximately 50,000 veterans are homeless on any given night. (Let that roll around in your head.)  I took a look at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's information regarding uninsured veterans and family members and found the following: In 2010, an estimated 1.3 million veterans and nearly 950,000 members of their families were uninsured. (It's unclear where those numbers stand today, even with recent medicaid expansions of the Affordable Healthcare Act, but it doesn't seem to be appreciably better, and may indeed be worse.)  All sources I can find indicated that somewhere in the vicinity of 20 - 30 veterans commit suicide daily.   On this episode of the D2D podcast, we discuss charity, service, and several organizations that are doing wonderful things in a larger system and society that seems to be failing our veterans in every way.  Jennifer found a fantastic organization, HandUp.  In their own words, "HandUp is a direct giving system for homeless people and neighbors in need. It allows you to donate directly to a HandUp member via their web profile. 100% of your donation goes directly to a member’s HandUp account. Members then work with their case manager at our partner organizations to pay for basic needs like housing, medical care and technology."  She hooked in to a young man, Aaron, who wants to heal his PTSD and maintain a healthy lifestyle after having served honorably for 8 years.   Jen and I also volunteer with Team RWB.  RWB's mission is, quite simply and beautifully, to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.  Building community.  Re-integrating veterans into their communities and connecting communities with the heroes among us.   I realize this all seems quite serious...and it is.  I so often get lost in the big picture, the fact that we have simply failed our veterans.  We. Republican.  Democrat.  Christian. Jew. Black. White. At the federal level.  State by state.  In the mainstream media. In every community.  Jen often has to drag me out of my frustrated birds-eye view where I stare at a seemingly dying, disconnected forest...and show me beautiful trees and ecosystems that are stunning and awesome.   And in these moments, I see that it's about finding joy, building community, and serving our families, friends, communities, and for me, any human within my reach...with open, mindful, grateful hearts.  And humor.  Laughter really is the best medicine (and edible cannabis, that's pretty awesome medicine as well)...it's power amplified exponentially when it happens among people we love and appreciate and who love and appreciate us.  Enjoy...and may all your Christmas's be white. (Or wet and warm, if you happen to live in Western Pennsylvania.)
