This weekend, Ted Bryant kicked off our Happily Never After series by focusing on the main characters in God's story and exploring our role in it. Ted reminded us that even when life doesn't turn out as we had hoped—when relationships fail or happy endings feel impossible—we can trust that a good God is still writing our story. He has adventure, stronger relationships and true love waiting for us.Watch the message to discover how to step into God's story with confidence and connect with others through life groups this season!

This summer marked the debut of The Oregonian/OregonLive's first long-form serial narrative podcast with Wondery. “Happily Never After” rapidly climbed the charts and left listeners wanting more about the case of Nancy Crampton Brophy, convicted of murdering her husband, a Portland chef. Reporter Zane Sparling, who covers Multnomah County Courts for The Oregonian/OregonLive, held an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit to answer burning questions. For “Beat Check with The Oregonian,” Editor Therese Bottomly welcomed Sparling back to revisit the successful podcast (an excellent diversion for a summer vacation). “Since the 2022 trial, I've spent the past two years interviewing dozens of people about Dan and Nancy, reviewed thousands of pages of police reports, listened in on Nancy's jail calls — and, yes, read through all her novels.,” Sparling said. Retired FBI agent and criminal profiler Candice DeLong walks us through the case of Nancy Brophy. Brophy was a romance novelist who murdered her husband Daniel at the culinary institute where he worked in 2018. Though it appeared that she and her husband had a good relationship and were said to be a loving couple, Brophy's elaborate plot showed signs that she had been planning his murder for years including an article she'd written entitled, “How To Kill Your Husband.” Candice explores how a seemingly happy relationship could suddenly evolve into murder. To hear more about the Nancy Brophy story, listen to Happily Never After: Dan and Nancy on the Wondery app or wherever you get your podcasts.Wondery+ subscribers can binge all episodes of Happily Never After early and ad-free right now. https://wondery.com/shows/happily-never-after/See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

He attended Virginia Commonwealth University from 2011 to 2013, studying Homeland Security and Criminal Justice, while being privately coached by Joseph Obermueller. With just five months of acting experience, Josh ambitiously moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in filmmaking. Josh made a notable guest appearance as Chris Cleaver on ABC's long-running hit drama, Grey's Anatomy, in 2018. He later joined the cast of iCarly as Wes, which was particularly thrilling for him since it was his favorite show growing up. In June 2021, Josh produced his company's first feature film, Yucca Valley. His acting repertoire includes appearances in Notorious, Grown-ish, Criminal Minds, Happily Never After, There's No Such Thing as Vampires, Murder in the Vineyard, and All Out Dysfunktion!. He stars in the Faith-based series The Baxters on Amazon Prime, based on Karen Kingsbury's best-selling novels. Josh's film work continues to impress, with performances in the TIFF favorite Wildflower, alongside Kiernan Shipka, Brad Garrett, Jean Smart, and Charlie Plummer, and The Resurrection of Charles Mansion, opposite Frank Grillo and Jaime King. Recently, he completed production on Ride, starring Annabeth Gish, a project he wrote, produced, and starred in as the male lead. Beyond his professional achievements, Josh is dedicated to charitable causes. This past fall, he launched 'Operation 22,' a campaign where he rucked 22 miles each day with a 22-pound rucksack for 22 consecutive days to raise awareness and funds to combat military suicide, with proceeds benefiting Stop Soldier Suicide. Josh and his wife currently reside in Nashville, TN, where he continues to focus on his acting, writing, and producing career. His diverse athletic pursuits include baseball, martial arts, football, tennis, basketball, track & field, boxing, swimming, and golf. Additionally, Josh is an avid whiskey enthusiast.
Today, we have the audio recording of our February 13th, 2024 virtual event celebrating Amy Lea’s latest book The Catch, a romcom about an influencer who heads to a rural fishing village in an attempt to rescue her floundering career and ends up in a fake engagement with a burly and bearded bed-and-breakfast owner slash fisherman. Amy is in conversation with the great Lynn Painter. They chat about the origins of The Catch, Canadian culinary delicacies, which of Amy’s characters she relates to the most, the intensity of hockey (the game, the players, the moms), what Amy is working on now and what’s next from her, a little bit about Lynn’s latest book Happily Never After, the differences between writing YA and adult books, advice for querying authors, drafting versus editing, and, of course, they share some books they’ve loved recently. A quick programming note: This Saturday is Independent Bookstore Day. If you’re local, you should definitely come out and participate in the San Diego Book Crawl which runs April 27-29. Check out @sdbookcrawl on Instagram for more information. If you’re not local, Saturday would be a great day to check out your nearest indie. We will be taking next Wednesday off from the podcast to recover from the excellent chaos of the weekend, but I’ll meet you back here on May 8th for a chat with the wonderful, brilliant, eminently charming Kaliane Bradley.
We all want to live happily ever after. We want the job, the relationship, the future of our nation, whatever to have a happy ending. But many of us have come face to face with the reality that our ‘Happily Ever After' looks more like a ‘Happily Never After'. What do we do NOW when we are unsure of the future. The Bible shows us that the right course of action is to obey Jesus now and trust him to work out our future. It's rarely easy, but it is always worth the work and the wait.

Does your life feel more like a true crime drama than a Hallmark romance? Us too. And with all of this quarantining, mark our words... Snapped is going to have A LOT of content to pull from. With that in mind, Happily NEVER After is taking a sharp left into the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries films! We have had such a blast reviewing this genre, we've decided to go all in. They manage to mix some flirtation into these murders, so it's really the best of both, you know? Anyway, our first ep back is Murder She Baked: A Chocolate Chip Mystery. Hannah, Alison Sweeney - Biggest Loser, Days of Our Lives - is part-time bakery owner, part-time detective and her small town friend Ron shows up dead in his milk truck. In her bakery parking lot, no less! There's also a love triangle between Hannah, some other guy who looks good in decent lighting and the delightful Cameron Mathison. There's a rich, snooty family, tons of baseless accusations and peeping through windows and around corners. We make fun of it all. Take a listen!! I come from a city where females still own the 5s and rappers are still trapped in 2003. I come from a generation full of numb individuals who can only listen to music to seek escape and feel comfort. I’m not a rapper, I am a melodic connoisseur from the future. I don’t expect anybody to understand me or where I came from. I’m not even sure if I am from this planet. All I know is I’m just trying to find my way back home. So in due time, get lost in my loop and listen to the sounds in my head. Nothing is ever what it seems. The beast wears the sheeps clothes just to fit in my book. Promises were meant to be broken and secrets will forever be told. Welcome to my journal, and here’s to Happily Never After. Yes, yes, ya'll... It's ep 22 of Happily NEVER After! It's still the #summerofbadtitles and we're bringing you Bridal Wave with none other than the delicious pairing of Andrew Walker and Arielle Kebbel. Georgie is a rhinoplasty nurse who is about to marry her super vanilla, rhinoplasty surgeon fiancé, Phillip Hamilton. This lukewarm relationship is rudely interrupted when during their wedding weekend, Luke (Walker, yum) busts onto the scene in his crew cut and sandals. He used to be a successful architect, but he's done with all that success and regular shoes. He's now ready to walk barefoot near the local grotto and make furniture for the forest animals to enjoy. After we endure two crazy moms and the trappings of a Holiday Inn Express (on the water), who do you think Georgie ends up with in the end? The dry, workaholic nose doctor or the mandal wearing, jobless sketch artist? Listen and find out! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Dylan Hysen, Delaney Stovall, & April Collins recap Episode 29 of Mysticons, “Happily Never After”.
Happily NEVER After is back with episode 16! What can I say about this movie? Sometimes you’re having a bad day, get a flat tire and a prince stops to help you change it. After that, at his sage Black valet’s chagrin, prince Nate excitedly volunteers to work (seemingly for free) at your family’s garden supply store AND gets you, a budding yet unexperienced landscape architect, a once in a lifetime gig redesigning the gardens of the hottest estate in town. Yes, people. This is where Susanna Truitt, played by Megan Park – nope, you don’t know her either – and Prince Nathaniel of Cambria, Jonathan Keltz – also unknown, find themselves at this point in their lives. As with any prince about to become king… of an entire country… he’s very reluctant about all of the responsibility, he’s never been in charge of his own life, blah blah whatever. @happilyneverafterpod will gladly take over. Anyway, they overcome a meddling, Cambria-splaining queen, ridiculous amounts of yard work and a shabby coronation to find this international love. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

We’re baaaaaack!!! After what feels like AGES, we are psyched to bring you episode 13 of Happily NEVER After! As promised, our latest recap is the North Carolina Hallmark fave, Love On Ice. Why a state that barely sees snow has hitched its wagon to a movie about figure skating in sub zero Michigan is beyond us. But here we go. Emily James is a former championship figure skater played by General Hospital alum Julie Berman (remember Luke and Laura’s daughter Lulu?) and Andrew Walker, aka Mr. @oneanddoneregan, plays figure skating coach Spencer Patterson. After a happenstance meeting in the local café, Spencer’s obsession with Emily – and his quest to find out her reasons for hanging up her skates eight years ago - really takes off. Together they overcome an aggressive skating mom, a salty ex-coach and the ghost of parent past to a Midwest Regional figure skating comeback that finishes up a bit more “symbol” than we imagined it would. Overall message: a bit of low-key stalking absolutely can turn into a consensual courtship on the ice. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

With her Jersey-girl attitude and romantic Italian soul, Kayla Calabrese brings her own flair to the country music scene. This down-to-earth artist has a sassy edge that shines through her lyrics, stage presence, and fresh demeanor. Being an artist has always been an aspiration of Kayla's. “I always dreamed of singing in front of an audience and performing, but I was too scared to tell anyone,” says Calabrese. It wasn't until age 16 that this “hairbrush singer” made the bold decision to make her dreams a reality. With a go-getter spirit, Kayla decided to take voice lessons, and a few years later, made the brave move to Music City to pursue her passion for music. Upon moving to Nashville, Kayla enrolled in Nursing School at Belmont University, while also launching her music career. Shortly after coming to Nashville, Kayla began recording with Grammy nominated music producer Kent Wells, best known for producing Dolly Parton. Wells produced Kayla's first EP Kayla Calabrese, featuring her first single “Kiss Me,” and was a great experience she describes as something she will never forget. Pleased by the success, Kayla was determined to keep pushing forward. A few years later, after graduating and becoming an ER Nurse, Kayla teamed up with producer Jimmy Nichols to perfect a project she had been developing, starting with her Fall 2014 release “Whisper.” Kayla wasn't the only one moved by the creation with Jimmy Nichols—Jimmy was equally impressed. “I've never worked with anyone who seems to have such a grasp of how to weave a lyric and melody together at such a young age than Kayla,” says Nichols. “Her songs show that she's strong and sensitive and sure of where she's headed, which I believe is straight to the top.”As a musician, Kayla can show her strong disposition in one song, yet become vulnerable with the next. “My favorite part about being an artist is that I can express my feelings and emotions in a song that not only means something to me but others can relate in their own personal way,” says Calabrese. This raw emotion was found in her latest hit, “Give,” and can be found in her brand new radio single, "Happily Never After."
Rachel Belle (http://www.hellorachelbelle.com) is a feature reporter, radio personality and host, best known for her segment "Ring My Belle," (www.mynorthwest.com/rachelbelle) that airs weekday afternoons on KIRO Radio's The Ron & Don Show. She was voted Seattle's Best FM Radio Personality by "Seattle Weekly" in 2012. As a freelance food and culture writer, Rachel has contributed to Lucky Peach, The Stranger and Eater Seattle, to name a few. She's a regular contributor, and fill-in host, on Seattle Kitchen, a culinary radio program and podcast co-hosted by James Beard award winning restaurateur, Tom Douglas. She was featured as a taco expert on the Cooking Channel show "Best in Chow," as a journalist on the Discovery Investigates programs "Happily Never After" and "Ice Cold Killers" and was a guest on "Check Please! Northwest," a PBS restaurant review program. She believes a good burrito can solve any crisis. In This TAMP Episode Rachel talks with Smarthouse Creative's Ryan Davis about her production process, working as a one-woman band, and explains how she comes up with, develops, produces and publishes relevant and engaging media stories. She describes her use of social media as a tool, and how, by harnessing and directing its power, she is able to come up with unique story ideas. Rachel encourages storytellers to constantly ask themselves the big question “who cares?” when producing content. In reflecting about voice and audience engagement Rachel explains, “My advice is to really have your own voice and not, on social media, put up, kind of generic stuff…let your personality shine through.” Don’t miss Rachel’s tips about how to deal with internet trolls on social media. Her advice might come as a surprise! Find out more about the ways that Rachel finds, builds and maintains a loyal audience by listening to this episode of TAMP. They say the 90's should be “coming back” any time now (if they ever went away). This week, I've got not one but two acts with a special connection to that era. Shane from The New Loud knows is convinced the 90's are coming back. His band has a new single called “Wrapped In Plastic.” The track was inspired by the cult classic TV show Twin Peaks and the song was written from the point of view of the dead 90s icon Laura Palmer. Loreta also has a special soft spot for the 90's. She has recently covered Michael Jackson‘s 90's single “Stranger In Moscow.” Listen to our chat and see how she reacts when an angry Mariah Carey invades her dressing room!
