Let's face it, parenting in today's world can be taxing. With impossible societal standards and unattainable social media ideals for what parents should be, it's no wonder people are feeling burnt out. Author Anne Helen Petersen began to notice that she and her peers were struggling to accomplish simple tasks. As she reviewed articles about what she was noticing, she came to recognize this experience as burnout.   What came next was her viral article and her subsequent book, I Can’t Even: How Millennials Became the Burnout Generation. Petersen joins us to discuss parental burnout among millennials (and all parents). She explores societal standards of parenting, parental guilt, how the parenting millennials experienced influences how they parent their own children, and how we might alleviate burnout.   Tune into this relatable episode of Mom Enough and know that even if you aren’t a millennial, you will walk away with new insights on why you might be burned out too.   IN WHAT WAYS DO YOU FEEL PARENTAL BURNOUT? What could you do differently to feel less burnout? How do societal standards (or social media ideals) contribute to your burnout or shape your views of how you are parenting? How much are you prioritizing “me time” at this point in your parenting? What else do you need to feel less burned out?   WANT LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR GUEST AND GET TIPS ON COUNTERACTING BURNOUT WITH SOME "ME TIME"? ❉ CULTURE STUDY. Check out Anne Helen Petersen's newsletter to read more of her insights on culture.   ❉ WHY “ME TIME” MATTERS. Check out this episode of Mom Enough to learn why "me time" is important and how you and your children benefit when you take care of yourself.

Host of the hit podcast 'Alison Rosen is your New Best Friend' and lover of "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter", Alison Rosen is our guest this week. Wooooooo!   Because Alison was once in a super cool Riot Grrrl band called The Angoras, Kelly takes us to Animal Husbandry class where we play the game, "Angora vs Angora". Spoiler: The answer is Angora. Don't tell anyone!!!    In honor of her successful pod, ARIYNBF, for Geography class (Or History Class, who knows?) we play the fun and very convoluted game, "Six Degrees of Alison Rosen" where we go down a rabbit hole starting with past Alison Rosen podcast guests and end up with some sort of Geography or History question to answer. For example: Starting with Bob Saget and ending up with The Great Depression. We promise it makes sense a teeny tiny bit but also not really but that's how we roll.    For recess we play "Just Me Or Everybody" in honor of a segment from ARIYNBF. Kelly likes her own armpit stank. Do you?   Paying homage to Alison's book, 'Tropical Attire Required and Other Phrases that Scare Me' Kelly brings us to English class where we play, "Sinister Phrases and Their Origins".   We end our school day in Health class where we play a game all about farts called, "The Truth About Toots and Farts". Hey, the heart wants what the heart wants and Alison's heart wants farts and we aren't going to take that away from her.   Will Alison stay cool, calm and collected because she's a badass and a total rockstar? Yes. Will Kelly and Lindsey crack under pressure? Absolutely.      Find Alison: https://www.alisonrosen.com/ https://www.patreon.com/AlisonRosen https://www.youtube.com/user/AlisonRosen   Follow the show's Insta: https://www.instagram.com/kellyandlindsey/ Follow Kelly: instagram.com/kelly_wallacebarnowl Follow Lindsey: instagram.com/lindseygentile Show theme provided by Mike Etten:  instagram.com/mike_etten/ BLACK LIVES MATTER RESOURCE CARRD: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/

Steps to Take to Cure Loneliness Understanding who you are Accepting who you are and loving yourself anyways Develop an exercise routine Challenge yourself mentally Setting small goals   We can feel lonely even when we’re surrounded by people. Frivolous friendships won’t help you feel less alone; it’s all about creating meaningful connections. What if I told you that the most important relationship to build is the one you have with yourself? Let’s explore how we can curb our loneliness by connecting and loving ourselves.   The Chief Complaint: “I Feel So Alone” Feeling lonely is something that most of us have felt at one point or another in our lives. It stems from many places, and something I want to really stress in this episode is that having more connections won’t always cure your loneliness.   More Doesn’t Always Mean Better What does loneliness feel like to you? For me, it feels like an emptiness in my stomach. It’s aching, uncomfortable, and not something I want to sit with for a long time. You can have all the friends in the world, but if you don’t have someone you actually connect with, it’s likely not enough. Try to focus on creating meaningful connections, even if that’s only a handful of people, rather than broadening your friend circle. I want to be really clear here. When you’re making deep connections with someone else to help your loneliness, it doesn’t necessarily have to be another human. My loneliness shifted when we got a dog! In this episode, I also touch on the connection of bias and scarcity when it comes to loneliness. It’s actually possible for you to create your own loneliness because you’re so used to feeling this way, you can’t see a way out of it.   Develop a Relationship with Yourself So what’s the solution? Well, I advocate for you to fall in love and build a relationship with yourself. When you feel strong in who you are, what you believe in, and what your priorities in life are, you will stop feeling the need to form false connections with other people. You build that relationship with yourself by truly understanding who you are. I found that getting an astrological birth chart reading and an Enneagram analysis both helped uncover aspects of myself I didn’t fully understand. Once I knew more of who I am, it was so much smoother to love all parts of me. Then you need to work on your physical health by developing an exercise routine you love. Next, activate your mental health with some brain-stimulating activities. And finally, start setting small goals that help you achieve the success you deserve. Trust me when I say that once you’re secure in who you are and love yourself, your relationships with other people will naturally develop. You’ll make deeper connections feel more loved, and those feelings of loneliness will start to disappear.   Homework for Women Physicians Have you ever had any kind of personality analysis done? What were your results? Did anything surprise you? Let me know in the comments on the episode page!   In This Episode  How loneliness manifests in the body [2:10] Why you should focus on making deep, instead of many, connections [3:30] How bias and scarcity relate to loneliness [5:30] How you can create your own loneliness without meaning to [6:30] How developing a sense of knowledge and a better relationship with yourself will help curb feelings of loneliness [11:00] What happens to your relationships when you have cultivated a positive relationship with yourself [18:30]   Quotes “Having a deep connection with a living being is really powerful when it comes to loneliness.” [4:00] “If you are deeply connected to who you are, what you stand for, and how you want to show up, you can eliminate loneliness by yourself.” [7:56] “We are not who we were yesterday, we are only who we are today. How we decide to show up today is going to decide who we will be in the future.” [10:15]   Resources Mentioned Check out the full episode page here Join The 3-Day Thanksgiving Workout Series  7-Day FREE Mind-Body Activation Program  Join the G.O.A.L.S. #28 - Gratitude is one of the tenets of my philosophy in life. Discovering the power of gratitude has been life-changing for me and if I could impart only one piece of advice for anyone it would be that. How did I get the founder of this remarkable app to be a guest on my show? Here is the backstory:A few years ago, I was at, probably, the lowest point of my life and I didn’t know how to get myself out. In my search for meaning and peace, I came across the exercise of keeping a gratitude list. Something resonated with me and it felt manageable so I started keeping a journal and would try to write all the good things that happened to me that day at night. What I found was that by the end of the day I would forget all the little things so I felt like nothing good was happening at all.I then found an app called GRATITUDE: Journal and Reminders. It was simple and the interface was pretty and soothing, and most importantly it allowed me to jot down things that I was grateful for as soon as they occurred because it was on my phone.Fast forward to today and things have improved tremendously. Actually, it is more accurate to say that I have improved tremendously. Not everything goes the way I want it. I experience pain and disappointment just like all people. But I am no longer rendered helpless and down for the count. I have learned to focus on the good and focus on what I CAN control which is me, my reaction, and my emotions. So last month, I was writing in my Gratitude App and a notice appeared inviting me to take a 7-day gratitude challenge. Even though I write down what I am grateful for daily, I took the challenge because more gratitude isn’t going to hurt anyone, right? At the end of the challenge, I received an email asking if I would get on a Zoom call with the creator of the app, Pritesh Sankhe, to give him my input and feedback about it.Uh, yeah! I accepted! And a week later, I was speaking to the man who has literally played a significant role in my personal journey. His app was the impetus, the turning point, that led me to where I am now.My life philosophy and attitude have been shaped because of this incredible app. And now I am sharing that same message in my own way. Originally, Pritesh wanted to ask for my feedback on the app, but instead, I think I rambled on about what I just described to you. He didn’t get a word in edgewise! And then I asked him to be a guest on my show and he said yes! So here we are! You are about to hear from a truly humble, kind, and generous man about how he came to create the app called GRATITUDE and how one spark can ignite and transform millions!Show notes for this episode can be found at:howtolife.com/028

LISA: Lord, You told me to do this but now it’s failed and I feel like I can’t trust You. What do I do with what I’m feeling?JESUS: Lisa, will you come on an adventure with Me and let Me show you how I see it?LISA: Thank You Lord that You don’t get angry with me for coming to You, but instead You want to help me understand. I love You for accepting me in whatever state I’m in. JESUS: My Beloved, you are right - I did tell you to do that thing. You are also right that it didn’t turn out the way you thought it would. LISA: I know Lord and that makes me mad and sad and I don’t know what to do with it all JESUS: The reason you’re feeling those emotions is because you had a picture in your mind of what ‘success’ would look like. You attached all of your faith to the outcome looking this way. LISA: Isn’t that what we’re supposed to do? Isn’t that faith? JESUS: Make no mistake, I LOVE that you listened to My leading and put action to what I had you do. That is faith and it pleases Me greatly that you have it. The problem is that you put your faith in the outcome, instead of in Me. LISA: Whoa, please explain Lord JESUS: You can ABSOLUTELY stand on My promises to you. You know, the promises that sayWhen you go through the valley of the shadow of death, I will be with you and I’ll lead you out (Psa 23:4)I am faithful to finish what I start in your life (Phi 1:6)My plans for you are good (Jer 29:11)And many more…So, even in the circumstances look like they ‘failed’ in your eyes, that is not how I see the situation. LISA: Oh Lord, that gives me a deep, deep sense of security and peace. You’re working all things together for my good and I CAN stand on that Truth. JESUS: Yes precious one you can. Trust in MY character and not in what you see in front of you. I will reveal My good plans as we walk through this situation together, so keep your eyes on Me.Come across and visit us at AWJToday.com#AdventuresWithJesusToday

Well, it's only gone and happened again: we're back in lockdown from this Thursday.  Finding out on a Saturday night that you have five working days left in what is normally the busiest month of the year, is not ideal, to put it mildly.  Still, we have to find ways of coping, ways of staying positive.   This is a quick podcast I recorded to talk about the things we're doing here to stay in the right frame of mind to see our way through what is undoubtedly going to be a tough end of this year and, probably, beginning of next. There are no silver bullets in here - just the things we're planning right now. In the end, I have to think of this time as an opportunity: an opportunity to finish the jobs I never have time for; an opportunity to find new avenues for revenue and an opportunity to reach out to our clients when they, too, will be feeling low. Taking control of what I CAN be in control of and figuring ways around everything I CAN'T be in control of is the only thing I can do. I hope you're all OK and I hope this podcast is, in some way, useful. Take care,CheersP. If you enjoy this podcast, please head over to Mastering Portrait Photography, where there are articles and videos about this beautiful industry.  PLEASE also subscribe and leave us a review - we'd love to hear what you think! In the first of a two-part interview, he and Riccardi discuss Armstrong’s breakthrough in the early 1930s as a popular artist; his first recordings of Broadway show tunes and the key role that Armstrong played in establishing popular song as a core element of the jazz repertoire; and the mixed response that Armstrong received during this period from critics in the U.S. and Europe. Armstrong recordings heard in the podcast include “Struttin’ With Some Barbecue,” “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” and “Stardust.”

Matt Taibbi discusses the controversial new developments surrounding possible corruption in the Biden family. Taibbi takes us back to the original controversy of Biden’s supposed pressure on the Ukrainian government to dismiss prosecutor Viktor Shokin when Biden was Vice President. The mainstream press, says Taibbi, remains united in their view on this issue: the dismissal had nothing to do with Hunter Biden’s activities on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma, and anyone claiming otherwise is just spouting right-wing talking points. In his latest series of articles, Taibbi reexamines some of the circumstances surrounding this story. He also ties it to more recent revelations about Hunter Biden’s laptop, a story that has received even more disdain from the mainstream media. Taibbi is deeply concerned about tech company censorship of news organizations, fearing that this could signal a trend that spells the loss of a free press in America. Discussed on the show: “10 Ways to Call Something Russian Disinformation Without Evidence” (Reporting by Matt Taibbi) “Glenn Greenwald On His Resignation From The Intercept” (Reporting by Matt Taibbi) “With the Hunter Biden Expose, Suppression is a Bigger Scandal Than The Actual Story” (Reporting by Matt Taibbi) “Facebook and Twitter’s Intervention Highlights Dangerous New Double Standard” (Reporting by Matt Taibbi) “Article on Joe and Hunter Biden Censored By The Intercept” (Greenwald) “Biden Faces Conflict of Interest Questions That Are Being Promoted by Trump and Allies” (The New York Times) “Email reveals how Hunter Biden introduced Ukrainian biz man to dad” (New York Post) “Told You So: After Supporting Censorship of Others, Mother Jones Now on the Receiving End of It” (The Free Thought Project) Collateral Murder The Good Soldiers “All the President’s Men (1976)” (IMDb) Insane Clown President: Dispatches from the 2016 Circus “The Insider (1999)” (IMDb) Matt Taibbi is a contributing editor for Rolling Stone and winner of the 2008 National Magazine Award for columns and commentary. 41:21Despedida y agradecimientos.   INFO FINAL Conoce más de Erick Ponce en: LinkedIn   Conoce más de “ICAN LATAM” en: LinkedIn Sitio Web   Conoce más de EO en: LinkedIn

How to set your word of the year: What do you want for yourself? What commitment are you going to make to yourself? Think about these questions and how you can embody them throughout 2021.   Holding onto anger doesn’t serve you. But what if I told you you didn’t have to resent these feelings? Let’s explore what happens when we use anger as a positive force in our life.   The Chief Complaint: “I Can’t Let Go of My Anger” Anger is an emotion we all know, some of us better than others. Sitting in your anger too much can be detrimental to your life and others around you - but what if you didn’t have to be in conflict with it?   Why We Feel Angry -All The Time- What does anger feel like to you? For me, it’s a red, hot emotion that sits in my chest and my stomach. It feels bubbling and like it could consume me at any time. Anger is more than what you’re thinking. It’s more than your thoughts. Anger is also the actions you take… or don’t take… that can lead to this fiery emotion igniting inside you. Let’s talk about what can happen when we reframe what anger means to us. When we think of anger as our friend, warning us when we get too close to our boundaries (or even overstep them). Let’s look at the positive side of anger.   Anger is Your Friend When you feel angry, that’s your emotions telling you that you’re close to, at, or even over your boundaries. Whether you’ve set firm boundaries or you have more flexible ones, anger lets you know where they are. If you find yourself getting angry more and more often, it’s time to look at what and where your boundaries are set. Looking at anger as a guiding force and an indication of your limits, you can start to build a healthy relationship with it. Honestly, while not actively encouraging anger, transforming your bond with it is super healthy. When I started 2020, I set my word of the year as “boundaries.” It’s taken me this long, but I finally understand why I set this word. I encourage YOU to set words of the year, too.   Homework for Women Physicians How willing are you to get uncomfortable? What is your word for 2021? Let me know in the comments on the episodes page.   In This Episode  What anger feels like in your body [2:10] Why you should treat anger like your friend [5:45] How feelings of anger relate to your boundaries [13:25] How to reframe anger to be a positive ally in your life [15:25] What happens when you set an intentional word for the year [16:30]   Quotes “Anger has a lot of thought associated with it but it also has a lot of actions associated with it, too.” [5:03] “Anger is kind of a nice little buddy to have hanging around. Anger is actually a really positive thing in my life, it’s just that we aren’t ever taught that it’s okay to be angry and to have that anger guide us in the types of boundaries that we want to set.” [6:49] “‘Your life and your business is not a democracy.’ For whatever reason, that thought made it all make sense. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had a thought that was so powerful and so clear as that. It allowed me to take ownership and to not be afraid of my anger.” [14:46]   Resources Mentioned Check out the full episode page here Join The 3-Day Thanksgiving Workout Series Join the 7-Day FREE Mind-Body Activation Program Join the Waitlist for the Life Coaching Society!
