Today I'm talking to Stephen "MAGA Hulk" Davis, a Turning Point USA Contributor, and Co-host of the "You Ain't Black" show.
Jesus is a better David. 1 Samuel 17. Colossians 2:9-15. Hebrews 5:8-9. The post You Ain't David appeared first on Greenhouse Church.
While Jerry's birthday is not until Sunday, I felt that there could be no better way to start off the 'Days Between' than with this humdinger of a show from August 1st, 1973. I realize this is only days after last week's Deadpod fom Watkins Glen, but, hey its one of the few, and probably the greatest of Jerry's Birthday show with the band. Now this version of the events is captured on what I feel is an excellent audience recording. The existing soundboard, especially for this first set, is fairly degraded and I think this audience recording is quite good - I hope you agree. I'm a fan of the 'Sugaree' here, as well as Donna's 'You Ain't Woman Enough' which is a crowd pleaser. The 'Bird Song' that follows is excellent and features two nice jams. The rest of the set is quite well played, with the set ending with an unusually fine 'Casey Jones'. Next week I'll play set 2 - which will include a beautiful soundboard capture of a wonderful Dark Star. Grateful Dead Roosevelt Stadium Jersey City, NJ 8/1/73 - Wednesday One [59:33] ; The Promised Land [3:02] ; Sugaree [7:51] ; The Race Is On [2:57] ; You Ain't Woman Enough [3:04] ; Bird Song [10:51] ; Mexicali Blues [3:19] ; They Love Each Other [5:07] ; Jack Straw [4:39] ; Stella Blue [7:23] ; Big River [4:38] ; Casey Jones [6:42] You can listen to this week's Deadpod here: http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod073021.mp3 This show took place on Garcia's 31st birthday.. August 1 would have marked his 79th! Thank you for listening and for your kind support of the Deadpod.
Have you ever noticed how much 'name-calling' goes on when cultural and social change is in the air? I thought today we might chew on a Tedd Judd and Sandy Pliskin song I recorded on my "Ebenezer's Make Over" album. It's called YOU AIN'T BEEN DOIN' NOTHIN' IF THEY HAVEN'T CALLED YOU GAY! The form is based on a song written by Eliot Kenin back in 1982 called "You Ain't Been Doing Nothing If You Ain't Been Called A Red". Activists who work to make people's lives a bit more just and balanced and equal, get labeled as 'Reds' or 'Communists' or 'Socialists'. The practice of using negative labels is often used by frightened, dominant privileged people when they feel threatened by others, whose existence or life-style is unfamiliar or different than their own. We discuss "our" one hit wonders- the one and only song by an artist that we each individually really like. (It's a bit of a back-handed compliment but we do like these songs.) These songs might or might not match up with the traditional definition where a single song is popular. At the end of the episode we also get into a discussion of cover songs in general and talk a little about Star Wars music themes. Mark's songs: That Thing You Do by The Wonders (formerly The Oneders), Whiplash by Beanbag, One Time by Earthsuit, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet by Bachman-Turner Overdrive David's songs: Rembrandts-I'll Be There For You (Friends theme), The Agony scene- Paint it black, Franz Ferdinand- Take Me Out, Britney Spears- Toxic --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/messianicmedia/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/messianicmedia/support

Spiral: From the Book of Saw landed in theaters today, and along with it, 21 Savage‘s horrorcore soundtrack. Under Epic Records and Slaughter Gang, the concise track list features four songs, each of which riff on the creepy sonics of past Saw movies with heavy hip-hop and rap undertones. Enlisting production assistance from Turbo and Kid Nazel, Savage tapped Young Thug, Gunna, 21 Harold, Real Recognize Rio, SG Tip, Millie Go Lightly and Young Nudy for collaboration on the soundtrack. Ahead of the film's debut, Savage — known for instilling horror into his own bars and music videos — released the soundtrack's eponymous single, “Spiral,” which reinterprets the series' classic theme song. “You Ain't Hard” and “Down Bad” featuring Millie Go Lightly elevate the movie's haunting plot with fast-paced tempos and hard-hitting lyrics, while the final track “Emergency” featuring Gunna and Young Thug rounds out the cinematic EP with a slow-building rhythm that intensifies suspense. The horror movie, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, follows a police veteran, played by Samuel L. Jackson, a detective, played by Chris Rock, and a rookie, played by Max Minghella, on an eery investigation of a city's past murder cases, while the trio attempt to stop a Jigsaw copycat killer. Some of you might be wondering why this podcast is called At the End of the Tunnel. Well, it’s because all of Light’s guests have had to go through some period of uncertainty or darkness or had to take a huge leap of faith in order to find their inner light, which ends up leading them to their path and purpose. In today’s episode, you’ll hear from Jasmine Mason, a Los Angeles-based contemporary dancer turned author. She has been dancing since she was three years old but, in the last few years, she became inspired to take a big leap of faith in the direction of self-publishing a book about breakups. One day, while doing laundry in between shows, Jasmine realized that she had acquired a collection of oversized t-shirts from some of the people she had dated. Wondering how many other women were keeping an ex-boyfriend’s shirt after the breakup, she had the idea to publish You Ain’t Shirt, an inspiring and uplifting coffee table book about the breakups, healings, and lessons of 65 women that held onto an ex’s t-shirt. Of course, there is no way Jasmine could have known that her initial curiosity around a shirt from an ex-boyfriend could have led to the production of a stunning coffee table book that helps people move through breakups, but that is the beauty of following your inspiration; you never know where it might lead you!In this interview, Jasmine shares the backstory of how she grew up, how that influenced her ideas around relationships, why she had that curiosity, and all of the steps that led to the conception and the execution of You Ain’t Shirt, as well as how she knew that she had to take action on the idea, even though it could potentially be a money pit. Make sure to tune in today!Key Points From This Episode:Back to the beginning: Jasmine shares a bit about her childhood and family life. Why she says she was born to dance and the impact that having an ‘alter ego’ had on her.Jasmine reflects on what it takes to become a world-class performer: her love for dance.Find out how she viewed success early on and why she never had a plan B to dance. How her parent’s divorce and her mother’s pain informed Jasmine’s view of relationships. The career decisions she made once she graduated and how she learned to deal with rejection without taking it personally.Hear about her formative dating experiences and what they taught Jasmine about herself. Some traits of an impactful relationship, including the importance of healthy communication.Even though her mom didn’t provide the best examples of healthy relationships, Jasmine says she gave great breakup advice. The origins of You Ain’t Shirt: how realizing she wasn’t creating for herself anymore sparked the idea to create a book. The t-shirt that inspired the book and Jasmine’s personal experiences with breakups. What drove her to keep moving forward with the book and devote her love and energy to it.How Jasmine knew that the project was worth every penny she spent on it; it’s expensive to make a coffee table book!Jasmine speaks candidly about overcoming the voice in her head that said she couldn’t do itFind out what Jasmine learned in the process of creating You Ain’t Shirt, including that it’s okay to lean on others.Links Mentioned in Today’s Episode:Jasmine Mason on InstagramYou Ain’t ShirtYou Ain’t ShirtYou Ain’t Shirt on InstagramLight WatkinsKnowing Where to Look
Kathleen opens the show drinking a Black Cherry White Claw and providing listeners with an update on the success of her March Madness bracket in the Madigan Family pool. UPDATE ON KATHLEEN’S QUEEN’S COURT: In an update on her Queens, Kathleen tells the Termites that Dolly Parton has her own ice cream flavor called Strawberry Pretzel Pie, which will be available from Jeni’s Ice Cream. Tanya Tucker has released a duet of “You Ain’t Woman Enough” on Loretta Lynn’s 2021 release of “Still Woman Enough,” and Kathleen wishes Queen Chaka a very happy belated birthday which was March 23rd. “BAD GOOD FOOD”: In her quest for new and delicious not-so-nutritious junk food AND in continuing her search for the best Ranch, Kathleen samples Hidden Valley Ranch Garlic Parmesan Cheese Dip with a Ritz cracker, which she loves, as she does her next snack: Cheez-It Loaded White Cheddar Popcorn. Then in the spirit of March Madness, as she has watched (and bet on) every game, Kathleen picks up the new Wendy’s Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit as Charles Barkley and Greg Gumbel mention on CBS broadcasts that it is the official breakfast of the tournament. Kathleen had such strong feelings regarding the sandwich that she posted a separate commentary video on YouTube. CHINA + NEPAL AGREE TO HEIGHT OF EVEREST: As a follow up to Episode 33’s Everest story, Kathleen reads an article announcing that after years of dispute, China and Nepal have agreed that Everest’s official height is 29,032 feet. NEW MH370 DETAILS CLAIM A COVER-UP: As her Termites know, Kathleen has a long-going commitment to finding out what happened to the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 as detailed in her bit “Malaysian Flt 370.” When the plane crossed over into Vietnamese airspace, the co-pilot didn’t engage their air traffic control and an assumption lingers that all tracking devices had been disabled so that it could vanish. Kathleen is thrilled to read the news that Florence de Changy is a Far-Eastern correspondent who covered the case in detail, is releasing a new book alluding to a cover-up by the authorities. PRINCE HARRY’S NEW JOBS: Kathleen follows up on her Episode 31 update on the ongoings of Harry & Meghan in their new life in the US. Kathleen has never been a fan of the British Royal Family and is amused at the drama surrounding the couple’s departure from royal life. She reads the latest press advising that Harry has joined Silicon Valley startup BetterUp as their chief impact officer (which Kathleen calls a made-up title,) and he has also joined Aspen Institute’s new Commission on Information Disorder (which Kathleen feels as though he is COMPLETELY unqualified to formally manage.)THE QUEEN OF SOUL: Kathleen LOVES soul music, and she’s a massive fan of Aretha Franklin’s recordings. She’s read 3 biographies discussing Aretha’s life, and after watching Nat Geo’s “Genius: Aretha” series Kathleen has headed to Muscle Shoals, AL to play golf and tour FAME Recording Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. She intends to enjoy some sunshine, a few beers, and gather as much information as she can about some of her favorite iconic singers immersing themselves in the Muscle Shoals Sound. POOP IN A BOX: Kathleen tells listeners about another Theranos-like startup company that has been charged in a $60M fraud scheme. Jessica Richman, who founded uBiome was indicted on multiple federal conspiracy charges last week. uBiome’s direct-to-consumer service called “Gut Explorer” required customers to submit fecal samples to be analyzed in a lab to detect diseases such as colon cancer. As the daughter of a lawyer, Kathleen laughs out loud at ANY thoughts of requesting that she “mail her shit in a box.”USVI BOAT MURDER: Kathleen reviews an investigation in the US Virgin Islands involving the disappearance of British woman Sarm Heslop from her American boyfriend's boat. Heslop vanished without a trace on March 7 after she and Ryan Bane had drinks in Frank's Bay, St. John. Bane told investigators they had returned to his catamaran that night and he awoke in the early hours to find his girlfriend gone. Being an avid fan of the ID Channel, Kathleen goes into her own thoughts on what happened that night ☺VAN GOUGH PAINTING EMERGES FROM HIDING: Kathleen can’t believe an article that she shares announcing that the Vincent Van Gogh painting “A Street Scene In Montmartre,” which has been owned by a French family since it was created in 1887, has been released for auction. SAN DIEGO MYSTERY BOOMS: Kathleen discusses the “skyquakes” that have been heard in the San Diego area over the past few months. The sound lights up social media and resembles the explosion of a heavy piece of artillery that can be accounted for by none of the known laws of nature. Many locals mistake the noise for an earthquake, but the US Geological Survey said seismic-activity sensors recorded nothing. Kathleen asks Termites based in that area to share their thoughts on what they feel is causing the noise. TOXIC POSITIVITY: Kathleen is amused by but also has a lack of trust in people who are always hyper-positive. She’s THRILLED to read an article from a leading psychologist taking the opinion that while over-indulgent positivity it is well-intentioned, toxic positivity suppresses emotions which can then lead to stronger negative emotions such as anxiety and depression. The doc defines Toxic positivity as the belief that no matter how dire or difficult a situation is, people should maintain a positive mindset which makes Kathleen’s head explode as she pours another beer and calls her sister to catch up on family gossip. LONG-LOST 1634 SETTLEMENT FOUND: Kathleen is excited to share with Termites that St. Mary’s City has been discovered in Maryland after 90 years of research. The colony was settled in 1634 by Catholics fleeing England after being. Accused of starting the Great London Fire of 1666. Kathleen applauds the endeavors of the archaeologists, and she’s amused at how jealous her mom and Jeff Foxworthy will be to hear that ancient arrowheads were found (as both are adamant arrowhead collectors.) WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK: Kathleen recommends watching the new HBO documentary “Tina” about Tina Turner, and also “Genius: Aretha” which is a Discovery Channel original available on DiscoveryGO and Hulu.

This week the guys finally return to their weekly podcast time of the year and got you covered on all the exciting happenings around FC Cincinnati now and in the past two weeks. Each YAL member gives their overall thoughts on the official Lucho Acosta signing and just what that means for the club and the other players. The club had two scrimmages since the last podcast and one is worth more than the other and the guys explain why. Jaap Stam made some interesting comments about current players and current needs, what does that mean for the rest of the preseason leading into match day 1? What did the guys think of the newly released MLS schedule? MVP Prediction? Those questions and more are answered on this week's edition of You Ain't Lion... oh and rants!

Today’s show features some of my favorite 78s from my collection. I thought it would be fun to feature hokum blues and jazz records from the pre-war era. A subcategory of the blues, hokum was popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Hokum songs were often uptempo, funny, and on the raw to often raunchy side. The origins of this style of blues can be traced back to the vaudeville and minstrel show era of the late 19th Century, where songs of this type were performed with a touch of innuendo and comedy. This genre became wildly popular with adult audiences during the 20s and 30s. In the early days, common performers surfaced in jug bands that performed in the beer joints and brothels found up and down Beale Street, in Memphis, Tennessee. Jug bands like the Memphis Jug Band and Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers played good-time, upbeat music on assorted instruments like washboards, fiddles, triangles, harmonicas, guitars and banjos, all anchored by bass notes of an empty jug. Later on, duets featuring the piano and guitar would become popular as well. I’ve always found these types of records entertaining and I thought it would make for a good show to combine these types of hokum records along with some early pre-war jazz records and a few piano stomps thrown in for good measure. Please subscribe to the show if you haven't done so already and share with family and friends. Also, go take a visit to the show's new website olddingyjukebox.com and have a look around. Travis, Nate and Stephen have lots to talk about this week on the You Ain't Lion podcast. First, the newest rumor circulating around FC Cincinnati and their interest in current Newcastle U23 midfielder Kyle Scott. Does this move make sense for FCC? Each YAL member gives their thoughts and what it might mean for the macro picture. Frankie Amaya's trade request is still front and center and the guys give their final thoughts on what the club should do and is Kyle Scott related to this rumor as well? They touch on the most recent comments by The Athletic on the pursuit of former DC United and current Atlas FC midfielder Lucho Acosta. Finally, the guys give quick comments on the new kit teaser, the first YAL scarf and end the episode with some great rants. You don't want to miss the rants this week.
