We're going to teach you exactly how to do our 12 minute day methodology and give you access to our life GPS template. So here's how it's going to work. This week, we're going to teach you the science behind our methodology. How to leverage yourself through science and why it works. Then next week, our AI algorithm is going to be made available to you so that you can customize the template to your unique life. All you have to do is answer about 40 questions, punch a button, and our life GPS template is in customize to your life. Then three weeks from now, we will explain exactly how to use our life GPS template and implement our methodology in your life. We want the magic 36 to be the beta testers for the new AI algorithm. Which really is a game changer for us here at think it be it. So as to the science, in this episode Kelly explains the reticular activating system. The filter for the brain. And the law of attraction. John then explains that your success is determined by your daily actions. And 95% your daily actions are unconscious. Therefore if you're not gaining control over those unconscious daily actions, meaning taking control of your subconscious mind, you're playing the game of life at 5% of your potential. John then goes on to explain how the human mind works. Conscious mind versus subconscious mind. Then John and Kelly give examples of the effect of reprogramming the subconscious mind. Connecting the dots on the science.About the Hosts:John MitchellJohn's story is pretty amazing. After spending 20 years as an entrepreneur, John was 50 years old but wasn't as successful as he thought he should be. To rectify that, he decided to find the “top book in the world” on SUCCESS and apply that book literally Word for Word to his life. That Book is Think & Grow Rich. The book says there's a SECRET for success, but the author only gives you half the secret. John figured out the full secret and a 12 minute a day technique to apply it.When John applied his 12 minute a day technique to his life, he saw his yearly income go to over $5 million a year, after 20 years of $200k - 300k per year. The 25 times increase happened because John LEVERAGED himself by applying science to his life. His daily technique works because it focuses you ONLY on what moves the needle, triples your discipline, and consistently generates new business ideas every week. This happens because of 3 key aspects of the leveraging process.John's technique was profiled on the cover of Time Magazine. He teaches it at the University of Texas' McCombs School of Business, which is one the TOP 5 business schools in the country. He is also the “mental coach” for the head athletic coaches at the University of Texas as well.Reach out to John at john@thinkitbeit.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-mitchell-76483654/Kelly HatfieldKelly Hatfield is an entrepreneur at heart. In order to study the science of success, you have to also study the science of failure. How much is performance connected to success? How do you leverage networks in your domain successfully?Albert-László Barabási is a professor of network science at Northeastern University and the author of books like, Linked: The New Science Of Networks Science Of Networks and The Formula: The Universal Laws of Success. Albert and Greg chat about the evolution of network science, measuring performance vs. success, how to strategically network in your field, and the surprising findings about creativity and age.*unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:Distinguishing success vs. performance14:24: Performance is really about you, and your success is about us. And what do I mean by that? If we look very carefully, everything that is performance typically links to individual qualities. How fast can you run? How good of a research paper can you write? And how good of a speaker are you? And so on and so forth. However, every measure of success is really given by the community, whether that's feedback, acknowledgment, adoration, money, whether that's likes, it's always a communal measure, right? You don't pay yourself; you don't like yourself—or you could do that, right, but not at the scale that really leads to success. It's really the community that provides that to you. Therefore, if you want to understand success, at the beginning, we do need to distinguish these two things, and you need to ask yourself: How do you measure performance? How do you measure success? And when and how is the relationship between them? The social nature of success32:42: This is the distinction between performance and success because success is a collective measure. We give success to you, so you need to come to us and make sure that we understand what you do. We can compare it to others who do different, similar things, and ultimately, we can acknowledge you and reward you for that. This is a collective phenomenon, and you have to work with the community; it's not a lonely journey any longer. Is performance really measurable?16:33: Performance is not a one-dimensional quantity. There's so many dimensions of performance when it comes to teaching, when it comes to having a podcast, when it comes to curing people, right? And hence, it becomes virtually unmeasurable. Yet, success is not unmeasurable, right? So, in most of us, the vast majority of humanity lives and works in professions where there is not an objective measure of performance, but there are very clear measures of success. And so really, all of the formula is really about how and when do these connect. On understanding how success emerges30:00: If you understand the forces that act on how success emerges, then you can actually start thinking about that in the domain where you are. What really matters, and where do you put your focus? I always think of these roles not as a way to manipulate the system—because you can't manipulate the system, right?—but rather as guidance on where to put your efforts.Show Links:Recommended Resources:Black-Scholes modelAlessandro VespignaniDashun Wang The Science of Science by Dashun Wang and Albert-László BarabásiGuest Profile:Faculty Profile at Northeastern UniversityProfessional WebsiteHis Work:Linked: The New Science Of Networks Science Of NetworksBursts: The Hidden Patterns Behind Everything We Do, from Your E-mail to Bloody CrusadesThe Formula: The Universal Laws of Success

On this week's Science of Success, WSJ columnist Ben Cohen speaks to Barnes & Noble CEO James Daunt about the look, feel and idea behind Barnes & Noble's new indie design. I'm going to take a guess that most of us--pretty much all of us--would love to be hugely successful in our chosen fields. Unfortunately, there was no class on success in school. In fact, if anything, we learned how to be “good enough” but generally, not exceptional.  And if such a class existed, we would have learned what my guest has studied at the deepest and highest levels.  Dr. Ruth Gotian wrote a book I wish I'd read decades ago called The Success Factor: Developing the Mindset and Skillset for Peak Business Performance. I loved the book and I'm not alone. Countless thought leaders you likely know and love have praised her book including SuperPsyched guest and Duke Business School professor, Dorie Clark, who said, “Ruth Gotian has reverse-engineered the path to success, based on her research with extreme high achievers, and offers useful tools and strategies which will give you a giant leap forward on your own path to greatness."  Beautifully stated, Dorie! So, listen in as Ruth unpacks the science of success, and what it takes to achieve at the highest levels.

To be self-employed, we need to be visionaries.  Our ideas guide us and lead us to do big things. It's also important to ground the visions in evidence-based action steps.  Today we're talking about the science side of business – an evidence-based approach to achieving exceptional outcomes. Today I speak to Christina Curtis about her new book, Choosing Greatness. She explains that our brains keep us on autopilot because they are designed to conserve energy. High-achieving people can choose whether or not to follow those patterns, and Christina gives us strategies to lean into the strengths of our patterns and interrupt them when they don't serve us. As Christina says, the more self-aware we are about the brain activities that are behind the scenes, the more we can choose how we want to engage with our habits instead of letting them run the show. Christina Curtis is the Founder of Curtis Leadership Consulting based in Denver, Colorado. A thought leader on motivation and goal attainment, she regularly contributes to the Harvard Business Review, Forbes, and Psychology Today. As an accredited Master Coach with International Coaching Federation—a designation held by only 1 percent of business coaches worldwide—Christina's clients include Fortune 500 executives and leaders. In her new book CHOOSING GREATNESS: DEFINING YOUR FUTURE SUCCESS ONE CHOICE AT A TIME, Christina shares the science behind the choices we make that lead to greatness and success. Christina has a master's in organizational psychology from the University of London and a bachelor's degree from Queens University.   And be sure to subscribe to The Self-Employed Life in Apple Podcasts or follow us on Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts so you don't miss an episode.
