On this episode of the Lead With Purpose podcast host, Tze Ching Yeung talks about how becoming a key person of influence in your industry requires strategic approach and consistent effort, and she shares her simple 3C Framework with you that will help you get there. KEY TAKEAWAYS The 3Cs are: Content, Connection, and Consistency. If you get those three parts right then you are well on your way to becoming the key person of influence (KPI – the person who gets all the work, gets to speak on stages, work comes to you rather than chasing it) in your industry. You need to build a personal brand that communicates your expertise, values, and personality. This includes creating a personal website, optimising your social media profiles and using a consistent tone and style across your content. Building a powerful personal brand requires a combination of authenticity, consistency, and value delivery. Define your unique value proposition, identify what sets you apart from others in your industry and articulate it consistently. This should communicate specific values and benefits that you bring to your audience including expertise in your specific niche, a unique approach to problem solving or a distinctive personality. Engage and build relationships, you never become the KPI in your industry if you stay in your room with your knowledge and don't get out there and meet people. Interact with your audience regularly, respond to comments and massages, email them, engage in discussions on social media about your topic, go into forum and answer questions, go to industry events and talk to people about your expertise and build genuine relationships with your audience fostering loyalty and trust. BEST MOMENTS‘Do not build a brand that's not you, people will see through it.'‘Be authentic and transparent, people's inauthenticity radar is very well fined tuned. Share your stories, experiences and struggles openly allowing your audience to connect with you on a deeper level.'‘Create and share content that provides value to your audience.'‘Utilise ChatGPT or other AI tools to help you become more productive, but don't use it 100% or your content will become like everybody else's, make sure you personalise it and use it as a guide to come up with ideas.' ABOUT THE HOSTTze Ching started her entrepreneurial journey back in 2007 with the launch of a sustainable clothing and home furnishing ecommerce business. Next, she created a sustainable fashion brand. In 2019, she launched a social enterprise to help raise awareness about the negative impact of fashion at schools and colleges. Through the 15-year journey, she learned so much, but easily the most meaningful lesson learned was about the importance of marketing. She now focuses on channelling those insights to help others succeed, through We Disrupt Agency, a business coaching, mentoring and digital marketing company. Tze Ching's mission is to create a community of global change makers and to contribute to positive change in both people and planet. On this episode of the Lead With Purpose podcast host, Tze Ching Yeung talks about so-called KPI's (Key person of Influence), someone who has a significant impact on the success of a business, which every business should have.KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes I talk to clients and they don't want to be the ‘front-person' of their business, they want to remain anonymous. In my opinion, it's a mistake because when you have a key person of influence it's much easier for your client or customers to relate to you as a human. This is what sets you apart from being a brand rather than a commodity. A KPI are individuals who have a high level influence, credibility and expertise in their field and who are often seen as thought leaders or industry experts. If you are one of these people you should definitely step forward within your business to speak about your work, your values, and the message that you have for your business. KPIs are important within a business for several reasons, I believe that KPIs can really help drive sales because they often have a really large following and a strong reputation which can help increase the visibility and credibility of a business. This is turn can lead to increased sales and revenue. They can also attract investment because investors are often attracted to a business that has a strong KPI because they recognise the value that these individuals can bring to the table. They can also act as brand ambassadors promoting a business and its products and services to a wider audience and they can help build brand awareness and customer loyalty. Becoming a KPI in a certain field or industry requires work and consistency in your messaging and so on. You need to stay up to date with the latest trends, do research into best practices and continuously expand your knowledge and skills, you can't stand still because other people will take the position. You should build a strong personal brand by developing a clear and consistent message about your skills and expertise as well as building a strong online presence through social media, blogging, YouTube, podcasting, etc. BEST MOMENTS‘People do like to connect with other people, I think that's why having a key person of influence within your business is very, very powerful and very important as well.'‘If the KPI is the founder of the business that's amazing, but you can also have other KPIs within your company or hire an influencer to be that KPI for your business or brand.'‘KPIs can provide valuable insight and expertise. This can help to drive innovation and also increase efficiency as well if you engage with the right KPIs.'‘Businesses should really seek to identify and collaborate with KPIs who align with their values and objectives.' Dan Priestley is a serial entrepreneur currently leading 7 companies, author of multiple books and proud father of three. A key person of influence as a business leader creates a compelling vision with energy and purpose beyond just profit whilst also attracting amazing talent who create real value so that the business takes on a life of its own. Examples include Microsoft and Apple who have gone from strength to strength beyond their original iconic founders. Dan outlines 5 critical features, for any Key Person of Influence. Firstly, the ability to Pitch your vision. All entrepreneurs need to pitch their business into existence. Dan explains that sharpening your pitch in the market is always going to be better than trying to sharpen your pitch in your mind. Secondly Publishing content in order to be a voice so that you can be found, heard and understood as regards what you want to be known for. Next is Product innovation with an ability to understand ideation and know when a minimal viable product must be pressure tested in the market place. Fourthly is raising Profile and taking accountability for getting out into the world and lastly is the ability to create Partnerships and joint ventures which can lead to explosive growth. There has never been a better time to lead without authority and have a voice to create change and become a force for good as a Key Person of Influence. Even the most experienced and senior need to consider how they are a Key Person of Influence above and beyond their role and title leaving a legacy for sustainable growth, impact and value. Dan also refers to his mentor who wisely said to him ‘we're not forward engineering the past, we are reverse engineering the future' Don't miss this episode.

A key person of influence is someone who is able to separate themselves from the market, to command the lion's share of attention, and is able to charge a price premium. They are one of the few names mentioned whenever it's connected to a particular subject. In this episode, Chris Do and Alastair McDermott discuss how you can become a key person of influence, why sharing the "secret sauce" is so important, and why it's better not to have a viral hit too early. They also discuss how to create a hundred-day content strategy, the two types of YouTube channel you can create, and why you should specialize externally but generalize internally. “Is there a benefit to sharing your work? If we don't share, if we don't write, if we don't produce content, how else will people discover you?” -- Chris Do on The Recognized Authority podcast “When you have a viral hit and you've barely started to make content, you're still finding your voice. And a lot of people are showing up to see you still in that learning phase. To me, it's better that you practice in relative anonymity. It'll give you more confidence, you'll find your voice, and you'll find the thing that you want to do.” -- Chris Do on The Recognized Authority podcast

There are many ways to categorize or define the type of a business. One of the ways I prefer to do that is by putting them into two categories. The first type is faceless business. It mainly operates on a brand name. The second type of business is with a face. Their brand is a person, owner, or the founder of that business. And you will notice that our affinity or attraction is less towards faceless businesses and more towards businesses with a face attached to them. It is one of the key reasons why many people are fans of Apple because of Steve Jobs, or Tesla because of Elon Musk, or Disney because of Walt Disney. The key here is to understand one important thing. And it is this: even if you have a great product, service, or idea, but if you can't communicate it remarkably at scale to the right audience, you are quite simply underperforming with what is possible. Unless you are the key person of influence, things could be quite difficult for you.So how do you become a key person of influence? That is what my guest this week, Glen Carlson, is talking about. We talk about:Why pitch? What does a great pitch mean? Different types of pitches and what are the key elements of each of themImportance of mission or ideology business. How and why the book is not the only thing that you need to focus on.The concept of 7-11-4About 5P, the importance of each and the sequence. The fallacy of profile before product.Glen is an award-winning entrepreneur and co-founder of Dent. Dent is a multi-award-winning business and leadership development company with structured training programs facilitated by successful business speakers and mentors. Some people lamented that this wasn’t fair but it looks pretty tame in comparison to today where we see the top 8% of people in the economy earning 80% of the available income. I’s happening like this because in every industry there are three groups of people: Newbies: Just starting out and gaining their skills and talent. They are usually fuelled by enthusiasm to rise up and achieve big things in their industry although they lack the knowhow and training to deliver real value at this point. Worker-bees: They are great at what they do but often go under-recognised and unrewarded despite having value to offer. Often their enthusiasm starts to diminish as they spend years doing more mundane tasks than they are capable of. Due to advances in technology and outsourcing, these people have become more replaceable and even though they offer value, there’s plenty in supply. Key People of Influence: They earn more money, have more fun and attract more opportunity. They are seen as highly credible, visible and valuable in their niche. They have a renewed sense of vitality for their industry because they are involved in high-value activities like speaking, writing, creating new products and leading teams. The key people of influence in every industry are earning more money, having more fun and attracting more opportunity than ever before. Social media and other technology is opening up bigger markets to these influencers. No longer are they local heroes, at a click of a button their message goes global. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ideasandrew/message

This week our guest is Dr Hayaatun Sillem CBE, the first female Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Hayaatun shares with us exactly what led to her being seen as a key person of influence, offering tips and practical steps for listeners on how you too can increase your visibility at work. It's clear she has worked incredibly hard to progress in her career and become a confident speaker, unafraid to use her voice to champion others, especially those from underrepresented groups in society. This passion for diversity and inclusion she has brought to the Royal Academy of Engineering.During this discussion, she is extremely honest about the microaggressions and unconscious biases she has sadly been at the receiving end of throughout her career. Offering useful advice for others on how she copes with this day-to-day and why it's important to challenge this kind of behaviour. She also shares openly what went through her head when she first went for the CEO role whilst her kids were still at Primary School, including how she makes things work for her young family. Finally, we learn why we should talk more about self-care and less about balance, which should involve relaxing with some trashy TV! This is certainly one of the most uplifting conversations we've had on the podcast and we really hope you enjoy the episode. The old saying "every cloud has a silver lining" was never truer... An accountant and techie found themselves both out of work together while on the trip of a lifetime Here's what happened next In our interview with Greg and Fiona Scott, authors of Living A Laptop Lifestyle they share how a bombshell from Fiona's boss dropped on them in Bangkok on the last day of their vacation led to their journey into entrepreneurship and the world of the internet... one from which they don't ever figure on retiring from If you've ever dreamed of Living A Laptop Lifestyle and following a passion for working from anywhere then check out their story and listen to the golden nuggets https://vimeo.com/436015981 We forgot to ask them about working together but we recall in their book Fiona wondering whether despite being married for twenty-three years and travelled extensively together at the time of writing whether they would be able to work together... Well the proof of the pudding is definitely there to see as they have gone from strength to strength, fulfilled their dream of living and working together, travelling the world and running a business... And they qualify for our 50+ Entrepreneurs Club :-) We're blessed to have them as friends, travel companions and ski buddies and proof that anyone no matter their age or experience can overcome those challenges in life and make a success of the outcome They overcame the 'wild west' and cowboys of the internet (their description) to uncover a business model that helps others to reclaim their lives and find their true financial worth through making money online What took them many months of research, trial and error, persistence and perseverance means they are able to offer their clients the shortcuts to achieving their dreams They know like us that what makes them happy won't necessarily make another person happy but what they can do is give you a road map to your own adventure doing what makes you tick We loved reading their book and we know you will too : Living A Laptop Lifestyle It's a story but it's also a guide and as our good friend and mentor Daniel Priestley author of Key Person Of Influence says of the opportunity now presented to each and every one one us "I believe we're now living in an entrepreneur revolution. If you have a computer, a phone, and a passion, you're already standing on a mountain of value..." Daniel Priestley is an author, speaker and entrepreneurial mastermind, as well as the founder of Dent Global, one of the world’s leading strategists in ensuring your business is able to tap into the wealth of expertise and value that sometimes isn’t used to its full potential. Daniel’s here to talk about the importance of becoming the “key person of influence” in business, and the value in treating business as your passion, and as a game we all play. KEY TAKEAWAYS Daniel has been hooked on entrepreneurship since his early days in business, when he found himself going it alone, after a slight disagreement with his boss. Since then, he has grown six global businesses, and has no plans to slow down. As products mature, so too do they become commonplace in the marketplace. The way that we can differentiate our product from others in a crowded field, is to employ a “key person of influence” in order to boost its profile. A good example of this is Richard Branson. Being a key person of influence requires a certain level of experience, insight and the raw materials required to stand out. Daniel runs an accelerator designed to boost people, and recommends that they come in with at least 15 years’ worth of experience. So many people spend far too long admiring the value in others, but failing to recognise the value they have themselves. By assembling the many elements of their success, their value can be easy to demonstrate. They key elements of importance when it comes to positioning yourself as a key person of influence are: You need to have a product eco-system (gift - prospects - robust core product - retainer model) Develop a functioning team. Entrepreneurship is a team sport. It’s far easier to be happy in your professional life when you’re doing something you love, and are passionate about. Daniel is lucky in that entrepreneurship is his burning passion. The thrill of business is always in the pursuit. Money is a great way to shed light or truth on what you’re doing, and to determine if what you’re doing is working, but it should never be the end result. Following the money is always doomed to failure. If you’re looking at a potential project in which money is already being made, the chances are that you’ve already missed the boat. You’ll only be playing catch-up. Trust your awareness. If your instincts are ringing alarm bells in your head, then make sure you’re attuned to them. They’re ringing for a reason. Daniel’s Five P’s, when it comes to being a Key Person Of Influence are: Pitch Publish Products Profile Partnership Sales is an unnatural type of behaviour. Most people hate the prospect of sales. Daniel likens it to physical exercise, in that we don’t enjoy it, but it is necessary. Roleplaying is good way of practicing sales. Data will be the new way of marketing in the future. It has already been used for presidential campaigns and for political purposes, and will be much stronger, in the end, than social media itself. BEST MOMENTS ‘From my passion in entrepreneurship, I went off and wrote four books’ ‘Until you’re a key person of influence, your job should be to becomea key person of influence’ ‘People want to know that you’ve succeeded at something’ ‘You’re looking for that rag-tag bunch of people who’ve got time available’ ‘I love to geek out!’ ’The money’s there to keep score, but that’s not the point of the game’ ‘It’s hard to sell yourself. It's much easier to sell a sports car or a piece of camera equipment’ ‘I was a weird kid' VALUABLE RESOURCES Business Problems Solved Podcast Dent Global - https://www.dent.global Daniel Priestley - Key Person Of Influence eBook - https://amzn.to/2w638EO Daniel Priestley - Oversubscribed eBook - https://amzn.to/3d9QZ2m Daniel Priestley - Entrepreneur Revolution eBook - https://amzn.to/2wdMdA6 Daniel Priestley - What’s Your Business Worth? eBook - https://amzn.to/2Wjtkq1 Daniel Priestley - 24Assets eBook - https://amzn.to/2Wlk98I ABOUT THE HOST For the last 15 years, I have been a multi-sector internal or external business improvement consultant, building the improved capability of individuals, teams and businesses.
