They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? According to Callum Laing, one of the hardest things in growing a small business is finding the right team and keeping them aligned and motivated. He emphasizes that when you have the right people working together effectively, the journey becomes much easier. However, ensuring that team members remain engaged, focused, and inspired throughout the growth process is a key challenge many business owners face. What's your favourite business book that has helped you the most? Callum Laing's favorite business book that has helped him the most is "Legacy" by James Steven Cook. This book resonates with his focus on building and maintaining strong company cultures, particularly in the context of resilience and long-term success, which are central themes in his work with boards and M&A. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Callum Laing emphasizes reading and learning through books and networks over podcasts but highlights the value of mentorship and professional communities for growth. He recommends leveraging online courses and platforms like LinkedIn to connect with peers and gain insights. For actionable advice, his books "Progressive Partnerships" and "Boardroom Blueprint" are great resources. Explore more of his insights and tools for business growth at callumlaing.com. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Callum Laing recommends leveraging advisory boards as a key resource for growing a small business. He highlights how having a group of experienced advisors can provide strategic guidance, accountability, and access to valuable networks. This tool is especially impactful for small businesses aiming to scale effectively while benefiting from diverse perspectives and expertise. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Callum Laing reflects that the advice he would give his younger self is to listen more to the great advice from mentors and apply it. He admits that, in his early days, he either lacked the context to fully understand the advice or dismissed it with overconfidence. His key takeaway is to remain open, humble, and coachable, as following sound advice could have made his journey smoother and more successful. The entrepreneurial landscape is full of challenges for founders and CEOs, particularly those with the intention of scaling a small business. In this week's episode, Callum Laing explains why entrepreneurs benefit from actively seeking discomfort, having an exit strategy, and accepting that painful moments are part of the journey! About Callum Laing:Callum Laing is the co-founder and CEO of MBH Corporation PLC, a publicly listed holding company that allows small business owners to swap their private stock for public stock without losing control of their business. He has been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years, has started and built businesses in multiple countries and industries, and is the author of 3 best-selling books!Episode highlights: The scale paradox refers to the struggle that many small businesses face when trying to grow because big businesses prefer giving contracts to other big businesses. This is part of what motivated Callum to found MBH Corporation PLC, a publicly listed holding company wherein small business owners can swap private stock for public stock while retaining control of their business. (03:45) Come up with an exit plan for your business as soon as possible. Having a long-term goal will keep you focused and will make your business more attractive to investors. (11:40) Growing a business from a lifestyle business to a performance business is a challenging (potentially painful) transition because of culture clashes, business model adjustments, and systems upgrades. There's no way to avoid it, just accept that it will happen so it doesn't come as a shock! (21:06) You will likely make many mistakes along your journey as an entrepreneur. Keep in mind that often when your biggest fears come true, they aren't nearly as bad as you imagined they would be. (24:00) Where you are right now on your entrepreneurial journey is not the end, it's a stepping stone. So seek discomfort at every stage because this is where the biggest learning happens. (25:38) Callum's best advice for entrepreneurs:“All businesses should be thinking about the end game.” (13:35) When you have a clear direction, everything along the journey becomes a lot more manageable. In addition to the look back at the Harvey piece, the show included an appearance by Jonathan Keim, communications director of CryptoCurrencyWire, who tuned in with his usual trio of developing stories. First was the headline: KuCoin P2P Fiat Market Supports Buying Crypto with USD Via PayPal (http://ccw.fm/xlKX0). Starting in June, KuCoin will allow its customers to buy cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ether and Tether, using U.S. dollars from their PayPal accounts. This development adds another fiat currency that KuCoin will accept as payment for transactions on its platform. The KuCoin P2P Fiat Market already supports payments made in the Canadian dollar (“CAD”), Chinese yuan (“CNY”), Indonesian rupiah (“IDR”) and Vietnamese dong (“VND”). Founded in 2017, KuCoin is a crypto exchange with one out of four crypto holders worldwide and an estimated 5 million users across 207 countries. Next on Keim's list was the LATOKEN VCTV Weekly Announcement (June 8–12) (http://ccw.fm/B9cN0). LATOKEN VCTV is a broadcast platform focused on the venture capital (“VC”) industry. The broadcast regularly features discussion panels, road shows, pitch competitions, keynote addresses and a variety of other VC-related content, and is widely watched by the VC community. LATOKEN VCTV's Weekly Announcement gives a heads-up on the agenda for the forthcoming week. The week June 8–12 began with an address by Giampaolo Parigi, chairman of a single family office discussing how to raise capital in the new normal. Other segments included a talk on how to get tech-style growth from old-economy businesses by Callum Laing, founder and CEO of MBH Corporation, and an online road show with the theme: Investments and Pivots during Pandemic: AI, Machine Learning and Data. Keim's final report was the news that BitPay has been selected as Frost & Sullivan's Company of the Year in the Alternative Payments space (http://ccw.fm/Z8yV5). BitPay is the world's largest provider of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payment services. The company was founded in 2011 and is notable for a number of achievements. In 2016, it launched the BitPay Visa Prepaid Debit Card, the first prepaid Visa debit card for Bitcoin. And in 2018, it received a virtual currency license from the New York Department of Financial Services. Glenn van Zutphen talks to Callum Laing, CEO, MBH Corporation about the seven reasons why small investors are often not successful and a new asset class of investments that may change that.
Imagine being offered a chance to invest in a solid, debt-free, profitable company that was going to go public tomorrow at below market rates. Now imagine getting that offer twenty or more times a year. This is the model that Callum Laing and his team have been working on since 2015. By marrying the capital markets with the small business ecosystem, he shows you how you can start investing today in projects that have the fast growth of a tech company, the dividend policy of your favorite cash cow and the job impact that most governments can only dream of.And for entrepreneurs, he demonstrates a unique rollup strategy that has allowed him and his company to build a 9 figure business in less than 18 months in a very unique and innovative way. They call it "Agglomeration"This episode is one of the most advanced interviews I've done on the subject of acquisitions and the absolute definition of creative deal-making. What does it mean to be a person of influence? Is being a person of influence something you strive for? When you look around your day to day life who do you influence? Often even when we dont recognize it we are influencing people. We all have such a dramatic impact in the lives of others. The question becomes what kind of influence are we having in other people’s lives? How are we using the influence that we have and is it the impact we intend. First acknowledging how our lives influence others and then being intentional about our influence is a key component in our success in both life and business. The impact we are making on our world, the influence we bring to the planet determines much of the outcomes in our lives. When we want to grow our company, what we are actually doing is growing our influence. That is we are expanding the impact we are having on the people we come in contact with. Our influence isnt based on how much we know. Our impact on others is based in how well we can share with others what we do know. You have heard it said that all you need to do is share what you have learned with someone who hasnt learned it yet. THAT is being a person of influence! And it is in the sharing of our life lessons, both or struggles and our victories that we truly connect with others. No matter what product or service you sell, being a person of influence will help your company grow! So to help us with this today Thriving Entrepreneur host Steve Kidd is joined by Callum Laing a well known connector and trainer in the SE Asia market. Callum is going to help us understand our influence and learn how to grow it.
What is the difference between fasting and not eating at all?! Toby Street from Fasting with Alice explains. Interviewed by Stephanie Webster Urban Health Method. Toby is currently based in Thailand, he is helping predominantly entrepreneurs and wealth owners in opening up and releasing physical and emotional blockages, enabling them to elevate their awareness of self and thus achieve higher states of consciousness. This allows for greater awareness in their lives and businesses resulting in more peace, acceptance, love, compassion, success, and abundance in all ways. His business background is varied: from buying properties in the SW of England and investing in student accommodation on behalf of a fund in the NE, to starting a digital marketing agency in London, then later working both in business and personally with the super-wealthy in Mayfair, London, where he learned a lot about the impact of wealth on our bodies and minds, which can manifest in many ways. Toby then met Jeremy Harbour and a business partnership began that, together with Callum Laing, saw them create 'Agglomeration' that would set out to solve some big problems in the world of investments, business equity value and liquidity. Toby was Co-Founder and European President of The Marketing Group Plc which, before being sabotaged by unknowingly toxic debt, was the third-largest Marcomms buyer in 2016 (only 3 months activity). In the months following the fall-out from the sabotage, Toby retracted from business for the first time since he was 19 to allow proper space for reflection, and to go within and gain a deeper understanding of himself and the world, knowing Agglomeration is really Jeremy and Callum's baby anyway and to support them in his own way and as a non-exec for MBH. Complete physical and psychological reset ensued. Toby educated himself in fasting, transformed his health and perspective, then with his partner, Alice, and a shared fascination of the human state devoted themselves through Fasted Life to helping people elevate themselves beyond disease, anxiety, feeling out of control and stress and into the flow, peace, happiness, and authentic success. https://www.linkedin.com/in/tobydstreet https://twitter.com/tobystreet If you want to Get in Shape, Get Healthy and Get Happy, call us for a confidential consultation - Stephanie Webster Urban Health Method. 07500 356356 (WhatsApp) hello@urbanhealthmethod.com urbanhealthmethod.com CLICK HERE TO DONATE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF OUR PODCAST:https://www.patreon.com/urbanhealth
