Dennis is joined via Zoom by Luke Willis, the director, co-writer and co-producer of Lady Like, a new documentary about RuPaul's Drag Race Season 14 runner-up Lady Camden AKA Rex Wheeler. Luke recalls first meeting Rex through the San Francisco ballet scene where they both had danced professionally, then being knocked out the first time he saw Rex perform as Lady Camden, not knowing Rex had started pursuing drag. Luke talks about telling Rex soon after that first show, "Let's make fun, campy, queer stuff together," and so they did. Their collaborations on short films eventually led to the documentary, which follows Rex's week-to-week journey as his season of Drag Race airs through the finale and beyond, but it also delves deep into Rex's troubled childhood and his future post Drag Race. Other topics include: Luke dropping out of college after his sophomore year to become a ballet dancer, the enduring magic of the movie Centerstage, how the perfectionism of dance is reflected in both his own work and Lady Camden's, that time he was in The Nutcracker growing up but kept it a secret, his most cherished memories from his dance career, the suitcases full of cash top drag queens take home from a club gig, the timeline he gave himself to get a feature film finished and that time he and his team built a spectacular ice cave for a Lady Camden video for under $100. https://www.ladylikemovie.com

Dive into the dazzling world of Jay Jackson, also known as Laganja Estranja, where the art of dance meets the boldness of drag, creating a spectacle of talent and transformation. In this episode, host John Corella and the renowned drag queen and choreographer explore a myriad of topics, from dance and television to the vital intersection of LGBTQ issues within the dance world. Laganja opens up about her extensive dance background, sharing insights from her early ballet classes to her evolution into an international performer. She discusses her affinity for contemporary dance and how her dance competition background has uniquely shaped her choreography, blending various styles and expressions. The conversation also delves into the significant role of dance in the drag community and its ongoing evolution. Laganja pays homage to influential figures in her career, such as her drag mother, Alyssa Edwards, and Candis Cayne, and discusses her recent choreography projects, including collaborations with Lady Camden and Trixie and Katya. A central theme of the episode is the importance of representation and inclusion in the dance industry, especially for the transgender community. Laganja speaks passionately about the need for transgender individuals to be in leadership positions, advocating for their community. She candidly shares her experiences and challenges as a transgender performer, shedding light on the industry's landscape. This episode provides an insightful look into Laganja Estranja's multifaceted career as a dancer, choreographer, and drag queen, highlighting the transformative power of dance in the LGBTQ+ community and the significance of embracing one's true identity in the arts. Quotes “I think definitely now that newer generations are becoming drag queens, there's definitely a crossover. You know, I used to really be the only like dancing queen in L.A. that had background dancers that were choreographed. You know, which was so crazy to me, because now you see that in L.A. all the time. But I think over the years, drag has become more dance centric and more focused on the tricks that you can do on stage, as opposed to just the look or the lip sync of it all.” (26:04 | Jay Jackson) “Respect in general is something that my parents instilled in me at a very young age. Both my parents were high school counselors for 30 plus years and so they raised me to be very in touch with my emotions and in touch with other's emotions.” (29:41 | Jay Jackson) “I want to respect those that have helped me become successful. So even though I never really took voguing classes before Drag Race or was in the ballroom community, I wouldn't have had such an outlandish appeal on the TV show if it hadn't been for all those that came before me. That's why when I went back for All-Star 6, I wanted to pay ode or paid homage to Tandy Amon-Dupree, who was known for flying out from the ceiling into a split. And so again, anytime people bring up that entrance, I always try to say her name because What I truly believe is even though those people may have never placed their hands on me, their art, their lineage, what they left has inspired me to be the artist I am today.” (30:23 | Jay Jackson) I worked with Meryl Streep once. And I could visibly see her nervous. I used to think, Oh, if you're the people that are the best in their art, they never get nervous. So I would feel kind of shame over my nerves. And so I always tell the kids that when they feel nervous, that it's because you care. Even the greats. (35:51 | John) “So much of, you know, who I am, my character, everything, it comes from her [Alyssa Edwards]. I mean, she's my drag mother.” (41:57 | Jay Jackson) Links Dance Dance Dad with John Corella on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dancedadwithjohncorella/ John on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/john_corella/ Laganja on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laganjaestranja Laganja on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@LaganjaEstranja Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

Phil & Jake are joined by returning friend (and author) Eirinie Carson to rank the British Pop group Spice Girls, the outfits that the British call shell suits, and British food on the List of Every Damn Thing.Follow Eirinie on Instagram (@eirinieeee) and Twitter (@Eirineee), and read her columns on Mother Mag. Her upcoming book The Dead Are Gods will be published by Melville House. If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook).SHOW NOTES: The Spice Girls are, of course: Victoria Adams aka Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice, Geri Halliwell aka Ginger Spice, Melanie C aka Sporty Spice, Mel B aka Scary Spice and Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice. Was there a sixth Spice Girl? Kind of. Michelle Stephenson was briefly part of the group that would go on to become the Spice Girls. At the time of this writing, we can't provide a link to Lady Camden from Ru Paul's Drag Race because it would risk spoiling the season finale for ourselves. Lucy Pinder is, as Wikipedia tells us, a British actress, TV personality and former glamour model. Shes also joins Eirinie for going on "holiday" (aka vacation). Phil at some point got it into his head that she was a right-wing ideologue and it broke the spell she had over him. It's probably for the best, even if it wasn't true! We talk about the Spice Girls songs “Wannabe” and “2 Become 1”. The video featuring them in leather outfits is for the song "Say You'll Be There". 2 Live Crew are filthy Miami rappers who legally laid the foundation for all filthy rappers that followed. Mogul did an excellent series about them. We get into a little Chubby Checker discussion, including his songs “The Twist” and “Let's Twist Again”. Phil tells us about Don't Knock the Twist , is a movie that features Checker with a lot of associated acts including Dee Dee Sharp, who sings Mashed Potato time, one of Phil's favorites. Phil likes anything where the song tells you "It's the latest" or "it's the greatest" and Mashed Potato time does both. Robbie Williams is the cheeky chappie from Stoke. Harry Styles is Hazza? Dolly Parton is the Backwoods Barbie. Hank Williams is the Hillbilly Shakespeare. Phil mentions the 2013 Morgan Spurlock 3-D documentary about One Direction, This Is Us but then gets confused as to whether it exists or not. It does. Phil mentions the youtube video "A Scouser Tries The Wigan Kebab and Smack Barm Pea Wet" in which a guy from Liverpool travels 17 miles to Wigan to enjoy Smack Barm Pea Wet which is a roll with a potato that's been batter dipped and deep fried, served with the liquid that peas sit in. Turkey Twizzlers were a UK meat product that used to be served to children at schools until celebrity chef Jamie Olive raised a fuss about them. Bovril is a beef broth concentrate, formerly known as Johnston's Fluid Beef. Phil remembers a guy saying it's served hot in a disposable cup. Kit-Kat is a candy that originates in England but really hit its stride in Japan where they make many variant flavors and generally appreciate the brand. Lucozade is a sports drink, roughly akin to Gatorade that was originally sold at pharmacies. Kebab stands are places where you can buy kebabs. Phil said we don't really have them in America but it's not really true. In his old neighborhood in Queens they were all over. Phil mentions a shocking ad for breakfast in a can he saw in a lad mag. He was unable to find images because when people are preserving and scanning lad mags, their priority is the photos of Lucy Pinder or Lucy Collett and then when that's done they'll eventually get around to the horrifying pictures of canned sausage and eggs. The product was probably Hunger Breaks' All Day Breakfast. Can we just go ahead and declare this the best Rusical ever? Yes we can can can, Mary! This week the top 7 star in a jukebox musical of RuPaul staples transformed into a masterful Moulin Rouge-inspired megamix. Lady Camden makes the most of a hairy situation, Willow Pill soars as a one scene queen, and Leland gives Best Supporting Top energy. DeJa walks dogs, Angie gets a Bea Arthur moment and Daya drunk-syncs. Unfortunately Bosco's Saltine is a little dry and Jorgeous's face doesn't always keep up with her hips, sending the two into a lip sync that threatened to leave a vacancy. But worry not, because the drag gods/story producers have spoken…. Of The Mother-Tucking World führen. Ob wir uns genauso aufregen wie große Teile des sogenannten Fandoms oder ob wir doch wieder Leben durch International Allstars erhalten haben, erfahrt ihr in der neuen Folge von The Gayze!

In this week's episode, we discuss who is responsible in a group challenge with no team leader, who managed to be vulnerable in the panel discussions, and have an in-depth analysis of the spectrum of lip-sync “duets.” League Standings: Charles (Kerri, June, Maddy)- 60 Daniel (Angie, Jorgeous, Alyssa Hunter, Daya)- 116 Rebecca (Bosco, Willow Pill, DeJa)- 183 Robert (Kornbread, Lady Camden, Jasmine Kennedie)- 131 League Rules: Each player chooses two queens for their team for the entirety of the season. These queens are awarded points for winning a maxi challenge (10 points), winning a mini-challenge (3 points), surviving a lip-sync (5 points), and just appearing on the episode ("The Naomi Smalls Rule" 1 point). In addition, each player completes a weekly draft card in which they guess the maxi challenge winner (10 points), the two lipsyncing queens (5 points each) and the eliminated queen (10 points), as well as a weekly bonus question (3 points).
In this episode of COL Drag Race ‘T-Time', Gary and Damon tackle the question that has been plaguing the world for decades: Can men's farts compare to the sounds of 60s girl groups? Butt seriously, the guys discuss the next section of episodes of the 14th season. The Top 8 are talking dads, dadbods, dating and all things dudes for this week's faux DragCon panel. It all feels more like the Pink Table Talk from All Stars 6, to be honest. DeJa and Bosco moderate their ways to top spots this week, Daya and little sister Jasmine continue their familial feuding, Willow gives bad handjobs and RuPaul can't stop cooing. We discuss salty baristas, sex symbols like Lou Grant and Bob Hoskins, our own mixed emotions about DragCon, a surprise pizza queen, and who exactly won this lip sync. Welcome to the 60's, Mary! The Top 9 split up into three mid-century American musical acts to channel a bygone era of TV. And honestly, they all kind of kill it. Jorgeous talks her way out of singing, Angeria dials into Diana Ross, and DeJa wins the episode the moment she puts that robe on. Jasmine and Daya attempt to have workroom conflict, Bosco and Lady Camden are page turners in the reading challenge, Willow taps in as narrator and Kerri Colby packs up her classroom and takes our hearts with her.
This week join Tilmon and Katy as they get heated discussing Daya Betty, delightfully confused watching Jasmine Kennedie, and…distracted talking about Jimbo. If you too teared up during Lady Camden's mustache reveal, you'll want to tune in.
In this week's episode, we break down that incredibly powerful Untucked, praise the maturity of auntie Kerri, and the blossoming of Lady Camden. League Standings: Charles (Kerri, June, Maddy)- 46 Daniel (Angie, Jorgeous, Alyssa Hunter)- 113 Rebecca (Bosco, Willow Pill, DeJa)- 146 Robert (Kornbread, Lady Camden, Jasmine Kennedie)- 116 League Rules: Each player chooses two queens for their team for the entirety of the season. Lady Camden joins for a RuPaul's Drag Race season 14, episode 7 recap to dish on transforming into Lord Camden — in Freddie Mercury boy drag — after an amazing stunt fall (and mustache reveal) on the runway, the inspiration for the jaw-dropping moment, what happened to the highly anticipated kiss between Camden and Angeria in the script for this week's acting challenge, Folsom Street follies, and so much more. Its time for episode 7 and this week the queens are overacting in the new soap opera “The Daytona Wind”, directed by RuPaul! Later it's time to bring it to the runway and the category is “Chaps On the Runway”. Who had the best look? Can we talk about Lady Camden's stunt? GAG! Also the fabulous Ts Madison is the guest judge! Then later a super emotional “Untucked”. Our RuPaul's Drag Race Season 14 review will be published every MONDAY. While recapping this week's episode of Drag Race, Tilmon and Katy question each and every decision made by the judges (and some of the girls). With their untrained eyes, they expertly dissect every outfit (as well as everything Daya Betty says) and declare the true tops and bottoms of the week. If you're team Lady Camden, you'll want to tune in!

The queens are giving back to the Drag Race community with this week's poetic parody PSA Save a Queen, dedicated to lifting up early outs of the series like Kahmora Hall, Jaymes Mansfield and Tempest DuJour (really). And while the elimination at the end of this week's episode wasn't terribly shocking, the one at the beginning of the episode certainly was! Kornbread shuffled out with another classic Injury of Drag Race, clearing the way for some more queens to become frontrunners. This week Bosco shot to the top like the Seattle space needle, Lady Camden was truly the tea, Willow continued to bring the house down and Orion's sequel in this competition ended as quickly as her first story.
