Ep. 91 - Teaching Rocks To Think

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE! These days, AI is all the rage, but it's also fueling more late-night doomscrolling than many care to admit. Whether we like it or not, though, Artificial Intelligence is no longer the stuff of science fiction — it's here, it's evolving faster than we are, and in some unsettling ways, it feels like we've begun teaching rocks to think (what could go wrong?). On the bright side, the rocks in 3Q3D's cocktail glasses are still cold, and the conversation – at least for now – still involves real people. While Chris Mikolay appears to welcome our new AI overlords, noted technophobe and hunter-gatherer enthusiast Amanda Adams assumes Episode 91's hosting duties, leading the trio down a dark and winding path that questions how AI is reshaping creativity, education, relationships, and perhaps, what it even means to be human. DRINKS IN THIS EPISODE:BABY GUINNESS SHOT >> 1 oz Kahlúa; 1/2 oz Baileys Irish Cream (floated carefully on top). Pour the Kahlúa into a shot glass. Using the back of a spoon, carefully float the Baileys on top to create a layered – and nearly perfect – deep fake of a miniature Guinness.PERFECT MANHATTAN COCKTAIL >> 2 oz rye whiskey; 1/2 oz sweet vermouth; 1/2 oz dry vermouth; 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir until well chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass and garnish with a Luxardo cherry or a lemon twist. A classic cocktail that pairs perfectly with a Cadbury Egg (or 3).PINK GIN COCKTAIL >> 2 oz Dingle Gin (or any London dry gin); 2–3 dashes Angostura bitters. Add gin and bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir gently and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist if desired.Simple, sophisticated, and tinged with just enough mystery — fitting for a conversation about our AI future.  If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend.  Follow our social sites here: Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/3drinkspodcast/?hl=en  Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/3Drinkspodcast

Ep. 90 - Genetically Enhancing the Jetsons

BIG, DIFFICULT, FASCINATING QUESTIONS (THAT WE'LL HAVE TO FACE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE). It seems only fitting that Matt Jordan – with his genetically perfect beard – should assume command of the USS 3Q3D for a conversation that tackles the toughest bioethical questions of our not-at-all distant future. Joined as usual by Amanda Adams and Chris Mikolay, the group wastes no time discussing whether we ought to genetically enhance our children, the second and third order consequences of dramatically increasing lifespans, and whether it's a good idea to implant a computer chip in our heads to make us a whole lot smarter. The questions are as good as the drinks (and in this episode, the drinks are *chef's kiss*), and resulting conversation is so strong that it's hard to believe it wasn't held by superhumans from the future.      Drinks in this Episode: Last Word coctkail >> 3/4 ounce gin; 3/4 ounce green Chartreuse; 3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur; 3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed; Garnish: brandied cherry (optional). Add the gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and enjoy on your spaceship to Mars.  Sakura Sunrise cocktail >> 1 ½ ounce Roku gin; ½ ounce simple syrup; ¾ ounce grapefruit juice; ½ ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed; splash of St. Germain; 3 dashes Lavender bitters. Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a coupe. Enjoy it anywhere, but ideally at a fancy bar on the North Shore of Hawaii so you can humblebrag about it later during a podcast recording.  Lemon Drop cocktail >> 2 ounces vodka; 1/2 ounce triple sec; 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed; 1 ounce simple syrup. Garnish: sugar rim. Coat the rim of a cocktail glass with sugar and set aside (do this a few minutes ahead so the sugar can dry and adhere well to the glass). Add the vodka, triple sec, lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into the prepared glass, take a sip, and immediately declare how much you enjoyed Lemonheads as a kid.

They were threatening to cut her benefits, and with her being unable to secure good references in her field, she couldn't get past the interview process at most companies. "Mr. Hammond, please. You have seen I have been applying for work. I have been trying. Really, I have.""Miss Adams, I am sorry, but one can only receive unemployment benefits for so long. You've applied for it six times over the past five years and this last run was for six months, the maximum length of coverage. The only way you can get financial help is if you claimed a disability.""But I don't have one!" Amanda yelled."I told you, Miss Adams. You should meet with our psychologist. Considering your... uh... history, I think he could help you.""Help me? How?" Amanda wasn't clear what the social worker meant by her history, either."Amanda. You have lost five jobs, all because you got involved with men at your places of employment. We have warned you time and again. I think it could be a verifiable mental issue with you, and I am only suggesting that you go see..""Wait a minute, Phillip!" This was no time for formalities, thought Amanda, using his first name. "Three of those guys claimed they were single. I had no idea they were married!""You could have googled. Check their social media history, maybe?"She ignored him. "I believed what they told me at the time, and I can't help it, that all of them got obsessed with me. They went out of their way to get me fired, after I broke up with them.""Getting romantically involved is circumstance enough for losing one's job. Go see Dr. Blake." Phillip held a business card to Amanda. "Or go without any possibility of getting any assistance. Maybe start applying at fast food joints?"Amanda graduated in computer science. She had far too many loans to accept such a low paying job. "Fine!" she yelled, snatching the card."You get one more check from us, and then it ends," said Phillip. "I suggest you go with whatever the doctor tells you, to pick up disability payments in the meantime. If you qualify, that is.""I have no idea what I would be disabled for." Three days later, Amanda found herself standing across from the most handsome man she'd ever laid eyes on. Maybe early thirties, well built, tall, with full, dark hair and piercing blue eyes. She blushed as he introduced himself. "I'm Dr. David Blake. Pleased to meet you, Miss Adams. Amanda, is it? Welcome to my office. Please, sit.""Pleased to meet you, too," Amanda said, briefly shaking his firm, strong hands. As Amanda sat in the chair opposite the doctor, across from his desk, he spoke, "Considering my workload, I do not have a lot of time to spend with new, non-urgent care patients. My time is based on need, rather than just equal time for everyone. I reviewed your case, and discussed it with Mr. Hammond, your case worker. We work with them on many cases, not just yours.""I see," said Amanda."Anyway, I am willing to write you up with an S.A. diagnosis. We can discuss whether you would like to try chemical treatments, such as we use to treat depression... or interactive therapy. Maybe both. But at this time, your case isn't that critical. I'll write up the diagnosis now, and you can set an appointment with my assistant for two weeks from now. Is that okay with you?"Amanda was relieved the doctor was willing to write something up that would allow her to receive some income, but she was still foggy on things. "I'm sorry. An S.A. diagnosis?""Sexual addiction," the handsome doctor paused. "Combined with histrionic personality disorder. What we in the business term 'slut-like tendencies'. This creates a toxic environment for any workplace, of course. You can get disability payments, while you go through treatment. Once you finish, we can note it on your resume, and can help you with job placement. Your case isn't so unique, after all."Amanda was having trouble breathing, flushed red with anger. "Did you just say I am a slut?""Slut-like tendencies only means that someone invests their need for validation, openly, and often. Most of them have, say, more than three partners a year, but they get off on the attention, more than the sex. It isn't necessarily nymphomania.""You're saying because I have an active sex life, that I am a slut?""No, I did not say that. Although that is the very definition of the slang term, especially when it is involves multiple partners.""So we're slut-shaming now?""Excuse me, Miss Adams!" barked Dr. Blake. "Let's go through the facts. You have had a sexual relationship with at least one man, in every job you have ever worked. Every time, it has led to trouble, and ultimately, termination of your employment. Would you say your actions were responsible for this, or not?""No! I would say having immature people, who were out for revenge, is what ended my employment at those places.""You continue to disregard other people's feelings, even though these actions, and the results from them, have repeated themselves again and again. People get angry with you,  valid or not; and push you out the door, when discovering your behavior.""Well, it shouldn't be like that," Amanda insisted."But it is." The psychologist affirmed."Dr. Hammond, I am not a slut!""Allow me to explain, for one last time, what I mean. The reason I say 'slut-like tendencies' is due to specific behavior points. For instance, I could see that you found me attractive when you came in today.""Dr. Hammond! I have made no such communications."The doctor raised his hand with his forefinger up, hushing her. "Let me finish. It's okay that you find me attractive. I also find you highly attractive, but it's our personalities that separate us.""Claiming I am a slut!" Did he really find her attractive, thought Amanda? 'Highly attractive,' did he say? Even as he spoke so degradingly of her?"No, you're not a slut. As I said, you simply struggle with some tendencies. Continuing with my observation, you find me attractive. Understand, Amanda, that being physically attracted to someone is perfectly natural. So let's say I was at the beach. You would see me with my toned muscles, tanned skin. I possess a body you might like. It would interest or arouse you, yes?Amanda sneered at the quack doctor, remaining silent."But see, you would get more pleasure by being the one barely dressed, not the other way around. Isn't that so? You crave attention, more than most other people require.""I do no such thing," said Amanda."Miss Adams," sighed David. "I am a trained psychologist, and I actually specialize in sexually deviant behavior.""Deviant?" screamed Amanda."Calm down. The point is, you can deny all you want, but you have specific markers. You can continue to deny the problem, or you can learn to change things.""You think I would get horny, or feed off your attention, if I were half dressed? Is that all you got? That's the strength of your argument, in labeling me a slut?""Yes, it is my argument, but no, I am not labeling you a slut. Amanda, this is a behavior pattern I have seen many times over. You could strip right now, angry as you are, and you would still want validation. You would WANT me to be attracted to you. You would want me to be turned on by you."As handsome as the doctor was, his personality was really turning Amanda off. "That is so fucking ridiculous," she said, crossing her arms."Fine. If you Insist on having me drag it out of you, go ahead. Strip.""Strip? Here? Now?" Amanda was appalled the doctor would ask for such a thing."Or don't. I can easily prove it to you in a matter of minutes, or you can continue to be resistant to the truth."Amanda paused for a moment and then stood up, pointing at the doctor. "You know, you're right. When I first came in here, I did find you attractive. I'm well aware, physical attraction is natural. But believe me when I say, that by opening your mouth and spouting your bullshit, the attraction to you has completely evaporated. You are a fucking creep!"The doctor remained sitting, shaking his head. "Do you want me to write this diagnosis or not? I don't have time to see you right now. Not until later this month. If you insist my opinion is wrong, you will have to wait until I can formally sit down with you.""I would never sit down with you. For you to even suggest.." Amanda stopped. She stared for a moment at the man, seeing his muscles ripping through his tight, dark shirt. He wore a bright tie with it, looking distinguished and professional, unlike his behavior. It pissed Amanda off, that someone so handsome, could be such an asshole. Amanda noticed his bronze skin, too, no doubt a product of a comfortable lifestyle. His short, dark hair contrasted with his piercing blue eyes. She almost wanted to ask him if he wore colored contacts."For me to suggest what, Miss Adams?" sighed the doctor, looking up at her.Amanda held her tongue, dropping her purse. Instead of replying, she began unbuttoning her blouse. When she was down to her bra and panties, she finally spoke. "I'm going to prove you wrong, and you are going to write something else for me instead. Something that will qualify me to draw disability payments, while I find work. Agreed?"Dr. Blake paused and leaned back in his chair. "If my statements aren't accurate, I will agree to that.""What will you write up?" asked Amanda."It doesn't matter," said the doctor, "You won't win this bet."Now Amanda was really pissed. In one swift motion, she unsnapped her bra, flinging it off, and ripped off her panties. "Dr. Blake. I can be stark naked in front of you, and not give one shit whether you like it or not. Fuck you, and fuck your bullshit quackery."The doctor was visibly shaken. Not so much by Amanda's actions, but by her perfect body. Never had he seen such a vision, and he wasn't short of partners himself."Jesus Christ, your body is amazing," he muttered under his breath. The reaction was instant. Maybe Amanda hadn't noticed it like this before, because it hadn't been pointed out to her, but she was ecstatic, that this hot guy in front of her, was practically slobbering himself while staring at her. She got a kick out of the hungry look in his eyes. Amanda was already damp, hoping the doctor might be sporting an erection under his desk. Then it hit her. Dr. Blake was right. For a moment, she stood frozen before him, watching him stare back at her. Amanda made no attempt to cover anything. Finally, she sighed. "Oh, my god. You're right. I act like a slut. You like this, and it thrills me."Amanda was being brutally honest with herself, and the doctor."Amanda, you are not a slut," said the doctor, snapping out of his trance and finally looking her in the eyes. "As I said, you have markers. But now that we have proven who is right, why don't you go ahead and masturbate for me?""What?" screamed Amanda. "Just because I admit to liking this, you think I would go that far? Just because you ask?""It's only a suggestion, Miss Adams, I don't mind. You know I would love every second of it. You might as well take advantage of the situation."'How is he turning this around on me again?' thought Amanda. The doctor arched back in his chair, and went back to staring at her body, sending shivers up her spine. "Really? You want me to masturbate? Here?""Yes, please. In the chair. Spread your legs. Show me everything.""Dr. Blake, this is not appropriate.""Of course, it isn't appropriate. It's the very reason you keep getting fired from one place to the next. But damn it, it is so fucking hot. You are a treasure."The doctor's compliments made Amanda blush, and without thinking, she dropped back in the leather chair. "Will you jerk off to me?""If you make it hot enough for me. If you beg me." The handsome clinician complied.Amanda arched back and spread her legs wide, while the doctor pulled his chair up to get a batter angle. She reached down with her right hand, inserting two fingers. "Please, jerk off for me. I'll cum for you.""If I jerk off, I'll have to cum, too," said the doctor, matter-of-factly."Yes, yes. Let me watch, too.""I'd have to get up from this desk... for you to see anything."Amanda bit her bottom lip, nodding, while digging her fingers into her wet cunt even deeper. She'd had objections to this man only moments ago, and now all she wanted was to get off. And to see this man get off on her, too."I tell you what I am going to do, Amanda. I am going to take off all my clothes and stroke myself. I will stand behind this desk, in front of you, and let you masturbate while watching me... watch you."Amanda groaned. His dirty talk edged her forward."Or I could come closer... much closer." He added.Amanda moaned even heavier now, begging the doctor to follow through with his suggestion. "I could cum in your mouth, Amanda."As he spoke, the doctor slipped out of his pants and underwear, and began unbuttoning his shirt, revealing his cut physique. He stood up, to finish removing it all, revealing a thick and long cock to Amanda. Amanda pumped faster now with the visual stimulation. "Please, please get closer, Amanda begged. She was almost whispering, ashamed to admit how much she wanted the doctor's cock. "Bring it here.""Tell me how much of a slut you are."Instantly, Amanda's hand stopped pumping. Juices were pouring all over it, and the chair beneath her, but her shock had preempted her horny drive. "What did you say?"The doctor rounded the desk, bringing him (and his truly magnificent cock) closer to Amanda. She couldn't help but stare at his perfect body. "You want me?" he asked."Yes," she whispered, but then caught herself. "But you keep calling me a slut!"Without warning, Dr. Blake rushed to Amanda, grabbing the back of her head, thrusting his rod into her face. Instinctively, she opened, taking it in. Unable to help herself, her right hand went back to the business of fucking herself, while David pumped his cock back and forth into her mouth. Amanda moaned again in pleasure."I will fuck you until you pass out, but you have to tell me you're a slut." David pushed deeper, slightly gagging Amanda in the process, before pulling out. With her left hand, she grabbed his shaft and stared to his eyes, "Okay, I'm a slut. But you better fuck me, alright?"With permission given, David picked Amanda up at the hips and spun her around as easy as a sack of potatoes. He grabbed her left tit from behind, and then guided his stiff cock into her soaking cunt, using his other arm. In seconds, he was pounding Amanda from behind, with her ass bent over deep into the l

THE MOVIES! Amanda Adams sits in the director's chair for this big, buttery episode about the movies we love – and the movies we love to hate. And, as she guides the OG 3Q3D crew through a conversation about the films that framed our youth, what makes a movie objectively great, and why we love some movies that are objectively terrible, Amanda can't help but get sentimental about a certain Legendary movie from her formative years. If you're a Gen X'er and a film fan, this energetic episode is for you. Drinks in this Episode:Classic Daquiri cocktail >> 2 oz light rum; 1 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed; 3/4 oz demerara sugar syrup. Add the rum, lime juice and demerara sugar syrup to a shaker with ice, and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe, garnish with a lime wedge and imagine a “Legends of the Fall” era Brad Pitt is approaching on horseback. Delicious! Ache Orange Creamsicle Sourt by Heart State Brewing >> Crack open this beer, pour it into a cold glass, and prepare to be perplexed by how little this actually tastes like an orange creamsicle. Do yourself a favor and go make the actual Orange Creamsicle Cocktail from Episode 80 and thank us later. Espresso Martini >> 2 oz vodka; 1/2 oz Kahlúa; 1 oz espresso, freshly brewed; 1/4 ounce simple syrup. Add vodka, Kahlúa, espresso and simple syrup to a shaker filled with ice and shake until well-chilled. Pour into a chilled martini glass, garnish with 3 coffee beans and enjoy staying up well past your bedtime as the espresso courses through your body. DRINKING & ALCOHOL. Alcohol is the only drug where, if you don't use it, people assume you have a problem. Kind of weird, right? It seems that alcohol – and our culture of drinking – are topics worth exploring. Hence, in this special “crossover” episode, 3Q3D regular Amanda Adams, and occasional 3Q3D visitor and fan favorite Colt McCutcheon, sit down with Chris Mikolay at the halfway mark of his Dry January goal to pour a few (booze free) drinks to discuss several questions that are interesting no matter how much you've imbibed: why are humans compelled to drink to excess? Will future generations view alcohol consumption as we view smoking today? And, the most controversial of all: is it ever okay to allow underage kids (and their friends) to drink in your home? Drinks in this Episode:Athletic Brewing Co. Run Wild Non-Alcoholic IPA >> Crack a can of this booze-less beer and chug until your hearts content. Don't worry, nothing happens (except at some point you'll have to pee). Restore Cold Pressed Immunity Juice >> Visit your local cold pressed juice shop for a bottle of zesty apple, lemon, ginger and cayenne brew. Pour over ice and sprinkle a little cayenne pepper on top for added flair. Toast to your good health and the first good drinking decision you've made in years!Fake Gin & Tonic>> 2 parts Clean Co. non-alcoholic gin, 4 parts Fever Tree Elderflower tonic; pour gin and tonic into a glass over ice, garnish with a lime, and pretend to like it. The Sober Man's Aviation cocktail>> 2 parts Clean Co. non-alcoholic gin, 1 small spoonful of Luxardo cherry syrup, 1 part lavender simple syrup, 1 1/2 parts freshly squeezed lemon juice. Mix ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a coupe. Garnish with a Luxardo cherry and lemon peel. THE POLITICS EPISODE. With an introduction as long as the Gettysburg Address, Chris explains (by using his beloved Cleveland Browns as an incredibly strained metaphor for political tribalism) why he has actively avoided political conversation on the podcast thus far - and why it's now finally time to analyze our nation's current political divide. Chris is joined by longtime 3Q3D cohost and political junkie Amanda Adams, as well as an actual living, breathing politican: Ohio State Representative for the 34th district of the Ohio House of Representatives, Casey Weinstein. Over drinks both sophisticated and unrefined, the group discusses the root causes of our political polarization and whether it's possible to have better political conversations - including how we might see people less through the lens of red or blue and instead, as human beings worthy of respect no matter their political persuasion. Drinks in this episode:Ole Smoky Mountain Apple Pie Moonshine >> Call Uncle Jessie and have them Duke boys pack up the General Lee with a few bottles of Hazzard County's finest 'shine for delivery before Election Day. Pour it over ice and taste that sweet, sweet freedom.Sidecar Cocktail >> 1 1/2 oz cognac; 3/4 oz orange liqueur (such as Cointreau); 3/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice. Coat the rim of a coupe glass with sugar, and set aside. Add the cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.Strain into the prepared glass, garnish with an orange twist and toast to democracy. Baluarte Reposado Tequila Reserva Especial >> Fly to Mexico and be seduced into purchasing this delicious 100% agave tequila by a smooth talking employee of the airport Duty Free Shop. In the final installment of a 3-part series of shorter episodes designed to pare nicely with one quick drink, Chris experiments with variations on the classic Aperol Spritz – and pays dearly for it. However, just as Amanda Adams and Matt Jordan were in the dark on the topic of this episode, you, dear listener, will have to wait and see what topic might prompt a discussion about soggy cereal enthusiasts, peeing in swimming pools, and the greatest decade of the 20th century. If you want to get to know a friend or family member better, take note of these questions and thank us later. Drinks in this Episode:St. Germain Spritz >> 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts St. Germain, 1 part club soda. Add the Prosecco, Amaro Nonino and club soda to a wine glass filled with ice and stir, garnishing with a lemon peel. Become further enraged at “Big Spritz” for convincing you to try drinking any other form of Spritz than the original Aperol version.Lillet Blanc Spritz >> 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Lillet Blanc, 1 part club soda. PETS & ANIMALS! According to 3Q3D regular Amanda Adams, how you speak to your pet speaks volumes about you. In this episode featuring the OG 3Q3D crew and bound to become an instant classic, you'll find out why Amanda refuses to refer to her pets as “fur babies” and what she's naming her future podcast (spoiler alert: it's called “Stats on Cats”). This conversation is as wide ranging as the animal kingdom, and no matter if you're a dog person, cat person, vegan or meat lover, you'll surely have an opinion about the first two question segments. For the really good stuff, though, pour a few drinks and skip straight to the final segment (at the 50th minute) for a story about Chris flying with the most famous cat in the world and – don't say we didn't warn you – the most absurd (and cringe-inducing) question ever asked in 3Q3D history. Drinks in this Episode:Bière Ritz >> Light beer, Champagne. According to the math wizards of the Bar Hemingway book, where this recipe appeared, you must fill a glass with "5/10 light beer" and "5/10 Champagne". We will concede the concoction is refreshing and delightful. Wild Turkey Old Fashioned >> 2 oz Wild Turkey bourbon, 3 dashes Angostura bitters, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon water, orange twist. Add the sugar and bitters into a mixing glass, then add the water, and stir until the sugar is nearly dissolved. Fill the mixing glass with ice, add the bourbon, and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube. Express the oil of an orange twist over the glass, then drop into the glass to garnish. If you're making one at home, show some respect for your dog or cat and pour a little in his or her bowl*.Greyhound Cocktail >> 1 ½ oz gin, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, lime wheel. Pour gin into a glass filled with crushed ice and then top off with grapefruit juice. Garnish with lime wheel, and then raise your glass and wink at that cute panda across the bar.*Don't actually do this.If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend. SPECIAL HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR! 3Q3D returns to its classic format in this Halloween themed episode as OG contributors Amanda Adams, Matt Jordan and Chris Mikolay conjure up 3 seasonal elixirs sure to please even the prickliest vampire. Contemplating their own mortality with questions about Death, Dying and Halloween, Matt makes creative use of candy corn, Chris sets up a chemistry lab and makes a drink that threatens the lives of all who dare drink it, and Amanda – with blood on her hands and in need of an alibi – may or may not have committed a capital crime. Trick-or-treat!Drinks in this Episode:Candy Corn Old Fashioned >> 2 oz bourbon, 2 oz candy corn “slurry”, 3 dashes angostura bitters, orange twist. In a mixing glass full of ice, stir and strain into a chilled glass over a large cube of ice. Twist a long zest of orange over the drink to release the oils, then drop it into glass. To make the candy corn slurry, mix 10 oz of candy corn with 5 oz of water in a pan of gently simmering hot water. Stir the candy corn until it dissolves into a paste-like mixture and you've lost all respect for yourself, because you're about to ruin an otherwise fine Old Fashioned by dumping liquefied candy corn into it. Dracula's Kiss Cocktail (Amanda Adams style) >> 2 oz vodka, 2 oz pink cranberry juice, 1 oz black cherry juice, 1 oz grenadine, 1 tablespoon lime juice, candied blood (for rim), vampire teeth (real or store-bought). To make the candied blood droplet rim: in a small saucepan over medium-high heat, add light corn syrup and black cherry juice. Stir to mix, bring to a boil (about 5 minutes) and then reduce contents to a simmer. Allow to cool to room temperature. Add red food coloring and stir to combine. The “blood” will be highly viscous, allowing it to stay in droplets on or near the rim of the glass for extended periods of time. To make the Dracula's Kiss cocktail: using a spoon, scoop out a small amount of the candied blood and transfer to the rim of the glass until it looks like a crime scene. Add ice, vodka, pink cranberry juice, black cherry juice, grenadine and lime juice to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into the blood rimmed cocktail glass, garnish with Vampire teeth and serve to your next victim. Vampire's Kiss Cocktail (Chris Mikolay edition) >> 2 oz vodka, 2 oz Chambord, 2 oz unsweetened Cranberry juice, 1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice; combine ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake vigorously, and strain into a coupe. For spookiest results, add a chunk of dry ice to the cocktail. DO NOT touch dry ice and DO NOT DRINK dry ice. With goggles and gloves, break the block of dry ice into small chunks with a screwdriver or ice pick. The ideal size is 1/2-inch to 1-inch chunks – heavy enough to sink in the drink but small enough to disappear after a few minutes. You can technically take sips of the drink since the dry ice is in the bottom, but just make sure not to let it slide to the top of the glass. For best results, drink after midnight during a full moon. If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend. Accomplished business leaders, professionals, and community leaders are often sought out to serve on the boards of not-for-profit organizations. These organizations generally operate under a tax-exempt designation from the IRS, but that does not mean they do not file tax returns. In fact, the Form 990 asks for more information about the operations, best practices, related party activities, investments, and results of mission-oriented programs than most for-profit business tax returns do.   Amanda Adams, Managing Director and Not-for-Profit Tax Leader at Cherry Bekaert, provides insight into the world of Form 990 reporting. Brooks and Sarah ask Amanda to walk through the various parts of the Form 990 and highlight sections that board members should review. Amanda also points out where to spot warning signs for potential risks. She explains a few of the key questions within the Form 990 that the IRS considers as evidence of best practices for good governance of organizations. The conversation wraps up with a discussion of unrelated business taxable income and key issues facing not-for-profit organizations in 2022.

I still can’t believe that it’s been five years since I started the Savvy Painter podcast. Back when I first started, there were hardly any podcasts about, by, or for artists. Today, there are a ton of options out there, and I’m happy to call many of them friends! On this episode - I decided to do something different - I sat down with a handful of fellow podcasters to answer three questions.   What is one common thread you noticed from speaking to so many artists?  What advice would you give to an emerging artist who sometimes questions their resolve?  What is the worst advice you hear given to artists?  Not surprisingly, each of my guests had varied answers that kept me engaged and curious. I can’t wait for artists like you to dig in and hear from their unique and fascinating perspectives! A common thread What would you say is the common thread that ties artists together? As I asked this question to my guests, I was encouraged by their answers. Again and again, the common thread that binds many artists’ seems to be freedom and autonomy. Each person that chooses the path of an artist will follow the call to creativity by creating their own path. I love the boldness that each of my guests tapped into when they answered this question - they weren’t afraid to get it wrong! I hope you get a lot of helpful insights from their unique perspectives and make sure to check out their podcasts. Advice for emerging artists  There are so many things that I wish I would have heard when I first started out as an artist. What are some of the tips and insights you wish you could have heard? Many of my guests stressed the value of putting in the work - and hard work at that! Too often artists get portrayed as struggling and starving or esoteric and whimsical - but what about the hard-working artist? At the end of the day - if you aren’t working hard and creating - do you really want to be an artist? Another one of my guests encouraged their peers to give yourself permission to call yourself an artist - yes, you can wear that title.  Terrible advice to avoid  Sometimes the best advice is to avoid bad advice. What are some terrible pieces of advice that people have given you over the course of your career? I can think of one person who decided that it was their calling to make sure I knew how unbelievably hard it would be to make it as an artist. Yes, it is hard to succeed as an artist, but it’s also hard to succeed as a doctor or a business leader, but we don’t go out of the way to highlight the difficulties of those professions! My guests have a ton of bad advice that you should avoid - let me know which ones resonated with you. Outline of This Episode [0:20] I introduce the three questions I ask fellow podcasting artists.  [3:00] Amanda Adams and Nicole Mueller (Beyond the Studio) answer question #1.  [6:10] David Sherry (Creative Caffeine) answers question #2.  [8:00] Kaylan Buteyn (Artist/Mother) answers question #1.  [11:10] Marissa Huber (Carve Out Time for Art) answers question #1.  [12:50] Yoshino (Artist Decoded) answers question #1.  [20:30] Andy Pizza (Creative Pep Talk) answers question #1.  [28:40] Erika Hess (I Like Your Work) answers question #1.  [31:00] Andy Pizza answers question #2.  [41:15] Brian Alfred (Sound and Vision) answers question #2.  [43:30] Erika Hess answers question #2.  [44:30] John Dalton (Gently Does It) answers question #2.  [46:00] Stan Prokopenko (Draftsmen) answers question #2.  [49:50] Amanda Adams and Nicole Mueller answer question #3.  [51:45] Erika Hess answers question #3.  [55:30] Andy Pizza answers question #3.
