Nicola Prentis started off in ELT as a teacher, bouncing around the world wherever she most wanted to go at the time: Czech Republic, Turkey, Australia, Spain, Thailand. She started writing EFL materials as a way to transition into working from her sofa and settled in Spain around 2012. Once she realised she could sell ideas to magazines, she branched out into writing about travel, food, parenting, even Brxit and Love Island for publications including Cosmo, The Independent and the Wall Street Journal (OK, it was only one article in each of those!). After a brief period of speaking at conferences, she realised she wasn't going to earn any more from writing than she had from teaching and the shine had faded from sitting at home not talking to anyone all day. At the same time, she began wondering what she could do with her savings, carefully scrimped over 20 years. The answer led her into teaching herself about investing from a starting point of utter cluelessness. That was quickly followed by the realisation that many, many people in ELT had the same lack of knowledge about investing and that all her years of teaching and creating educational materials were about to come in handy... the result is The Chilled Investor. A beginner course on investing that can take anyone from clueless to clued up in 6 weeks. www.chilledinvestor.com to sign up to the newsletter to be the first to hear about it.The EFL Magazine Entrepreneur Conference is taking place on the 27th and 28th of August. How to Use Digital Marketing to Skyrocket Your Teaching Business, with Leah Sparrow

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 3, 2022 55:51

Leah has been the owner of Leah Sparrow Digital Marketing since January of 2020. Her love for marketing was discovered in the early 1990's. She began as an on-air personality for a few radio stations in Tennessee. She was quickly promoted to production director and operations manager. Her duties included creating and overseeing the promotional and commercial content along with the programming of the station(s). She enjoyed her years in radio, but she began to notice a decline in sales. She realized the industry was shifting so she decided to pursue teaching. Spending time teaching her employees the art of delivery and content creation during her time in broadcasting was also something she found she had a passion for. In 2008, she decided to move on and pursue an education degree. Once she finished her masters in curriculum and instruction, she went on to teach at one of the private schools in her town. Although she enjoyed teaching the students, she discovered her health would not allow her to continue teaching in a brick mortar. She then decided to find a way to work from home. The discovery of online teaching was made as well as the discovery of a new passion: online teaching. In 2017, she began her online teaching with VIPKID and QKIDS. As she honed her skills through companies like VIPKID, QKIDS, GogoKid, and Outschool, she realized she wanted to take her passion for online teaching to the next level. After a few months of navigating and determining where her niche was in the independent online teaching world, she began the process of growing a digital marketing business. With the sole goal of helping online teachers grow and scale their online business through simplified marketing, Leah created Leah Sparrow Digital Marketing. Her digital course,The Online Teacher's Facebook Ads Blueprint (TOTFAB), is helping online teachers take their business to the next level. For those interested in growing their business through social media marketing at any stage, she provides one on one sessions and social media management services.Connect with Leah Sparrow:Facebook: @teacherleahsparrowFacebook Group: Online Teacher Support & Training Instagram: @teacherleahsparrowTwitter: @teacherleahsLinkedIn: @teacherleahsparrowYouTube: www.YouTube.com/leahsparrowWebsite: www.teacherleah.comemail: leah@teacherleah.com
