In this episode Molly and Angela talk to Maria Leonard Olsen. At age 50, Maria had drank her way out of her 25-year marriage. She had, against much advice, put all her eggs in the motherhood basket, will-fully derailing her successful law career. As teenagers, her precious children did not need her in the hands-on way they previously had. Her husband and she had grown apart because, among other things, they failed to nurture that important relationship. She was depressed and stuck. When she turned 50, she had the distinct feeling that she was on the downward slope of her life. Actuarially speaking, she was. So when she turned 50, her gift to herself was to go on a crusade to make the most of whatever time she had left. She set out to do 50 new things that were significant, at least to her. The list spanned physical challenges, adventure travel, and lifestyle changes. Each taught her something about herself and about how she wanted to lead the next years of her life to come. She ended up writing a book that follows the work she did to overcome addiction and trauma to accomplish those 50 new things and shares with readers how to make their own action lists. We talk with Maria about living her authentic life, living with intention and how she is creating her best life.   Maria Olsen  

#002: At age 50, Maria Leonard Olsen drank her way out of her 25-year marriage. Maria Leonard Olsen is a biracial woman whose parents were forbidden by law to marry in their home state of Maryland in the early 1960s. She is the mother of two children, a lawyer, journalist, radio talk show host (WPFW fm 89.3 in Washington, D.C.) and author of the children's book, â??Mommy, Why's Your Skin So Brown?â?? Maria graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, served in the Clinton Administration's Justice Department, fostered newborn babies awaiting adoption, and has been on the boards of Children's National Medical Center BOV, the Catholic Coalition for Special Education, GirlsUp and the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Washington. She has written for The Washington Post, Washingtonian, Bethesda Magazine, Parenting, BabyTalk and Washington For Women. She lives in Fairhaven, Maryland.

Dozens of beautiful and charismatic young people head there and find out that they are just one of many. So what can they do to make it as an actor or actress? And that old myth of where some group of people, the Illuminati or some secret society controls everything. Well, the film Starry Eyes seems to possibly have all these elements in it. When a young, pretty waitress goes out to auditions for commercials, television shows, and films, yet doesn't stand out from the dozens of other girls, she has a breakdown while in the bathroom. Hearing her depression spill out, a casting director asks her to come back for a second audition. What seems to be a fantastic opportunity where promises of stardom and fame spill out of producers mouths, she suddenly finds out that the casting couch may only be the first step down a road of no redemption. Dark Discussions listed the film as the fourth best horror film of 2014 and it seems to have appeared on many others' lists. Your co-hosts were lucky enough also to bring aboard actress Maria Olsen, who plays the outstanding role of the casting director, for her thoughts on the film. As a metaphor for how Hollywood and greed can destroy a person, the film can take on a whole different meaning. Yet as a straight horror film with a dark and mysterious cult, that alone is worth a watch for any genre fan. Joe Randazzo is an independent screenwriter and producer. His 2010 screenplay Ripper, won seven awards in 2010 and was optioned by Vistar Pictures in January of 2011. Joe is also the co-writer on two comedy shorts with Dave Campfield, "Caesar & Otto meet Dracula's Lawyer," featuring horror favorites Lloyd Kaufman and Debbie Rochon, and "The Perfect Candidate" starring Joe Estevez, Robert Z'Dar, and Maria Olsen. Joe is also a producer and co-story writer on Dave Campfield's feature "Deadly XMas," a parody of the 1980s "Santa Slasher" sub-genre featuring CKY front man Deron Miller, Felissa Rose (of Sleepaway Camp fame), and Lloyd Kaufman, as well as popular scream queens Linnea Quigley, Debbie Rochon, and Brinke Stevens. Deadly XMas has been well received both critically and on the festival circuit, garnering nominations for Best Feature at several festivals, while receiving stellar reviews from Ain't It Cool News, HorrorHound magazine, MJ Simpson, and many other reviewers. Joe is currently working on a screen adaptation of Julie C. Morse's novel "Out of the Box: The Mostly True Story of A Mysterious Man," as well as a yet untitled ghost story.
