A revolutionary who has worked incredibly hard to help grow both her winery and the entire region of Barolo. Growing up in Barolo, the young Chiara Boschis studied Economics at University before her family purchased E.Pira & Figli in 1981, propelling her into a role significantly different to what she intended. Becoming the only female oenologist working in Barolo at the time bringing her considerable determination, charm and confidence to raising the quality and profile of E. Pira. The only women in the legendary “Barolo boys” was a strong force in making the world start to notice the quality of wines from Barolo. Her philosophy is to craft wines that marry the extraordinary power of Barolo with approachability through strict vineyard management, careful selection and impeccable vinification techniques. All work on her vines is strictly manual and carried out with extreme care and respect for the environment and is certified organic since the 2014 harvest and is working to get all of Cannubi Hill to be organic. In 2010 Chiara's brother Giorgio, also a winemaker, joined the business and the two expanded their holdings to include Mosconi and Ravera in Monforte and Gabutti in Serralunga. In addition, Giorgio's daughter Beatrice has recently completed her enology degree so the future looks bright for a new generation at E.Pira. A special NHL Free Agency episode on Canada Day features a full analysis of the moves the Canucks made -- and some they didn't make. Matt, Blake and Jeff Paterson from the Rink Wide: Vancouver podcast evaluate the signings of defencemen Carson Soucy, Ian Cole, Matt Irwin, centre Teddy Blueger and goaltender Zach Sawchenko. They kick around the signings elsewhere across the league including players such as Ryan O'Reilly, Luke Schenn that interested the Canucks, as well as players (such as Morgan Geekie) on the fingertips of Canucks' fans on social media. The guys have a big picture discussion on what brought the team to this Canada Day with limited cap space to fill several holes; debating not just what these additions mean for the Canucks' push to make the playoffs next season, but in the longer-term given that only one player signed a multi-year contract. Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dand talks about the free agents on the team and what their futures might be. Conor Sheary, Craig Smith, Connor Brown and Carl Hagelin as well as defenseman Matt Irwin may have very well played their last season in DC. The free agent market is weak, so the Capitals might have to pursue some big trades in order to make this team competitive next season. What is the future of some of the biggest name Capitals. It's Dan's belief that the Capitals should explore trade options for TJ Oshie, Nick Backstrom and potentially Charlie Lindgren if they can get the right return. Dan talks about a Capitals team that could be very good if they could add a player like: William Nylander, Mark Scheifle or Alex DeBrincat. Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals loss to the New York Rangers. The Capitals staged a third period rally, but fell short. The Capitals have struggled to win games with Ovechkin out of the lineup. Ovechkin is out with a lower body injury. Laviolette didn't have an update on whether Alex Ovechkin or Sonny Milano would be back in the lineup tomorrow night against Buffalo.“I have no idea,” he said. “Whatever our lineup is, it's got to be ready and we gotta win a game.”Washington is now 0-6-0 this season without Ovechkin and has dropped the last nine games overall without their leader in the mix. The Capitals did get some great scoring and production though. Nicolas Aube-Kubel scores his fourth goal of the year to tie the game 1-1. Aube-Kubel, who signed a one-year contract extension on March 3, has 11 points (4g, 7a) in 41 games this season. Aliaksei Protas recorded the primary assist on the Capitals' first goal. Protas has set single-season career highs in assists (8), points (11) and games played (44) this season. Matt Irwin was credited with the secondary assist on Aube-Kubel's goal.
In 51 games this season, Irwin has recorded four points (1g, 3a). Matt Irwin scores his second goal of the season to make it 4-2. With a goal and an assist tonight, Irwin has recorded his first multi-point game of the season and the 11th of his career. T.J. A live recording of our educational podcast The How, The Why with Kathy Rodgers, Kirsten (Bruce) Meekins, Laura Beth Bachman, and Stacy Russo. This panel will share their stories behind the book We Were Going to Change the World: Interviews with Women from the 1970s and 1980s Southern California Punk Rock Scene. Kathy Rodgers lives in Ventura. She was born and raised in Oxnard, California, which is the home of Nardcore and the Hernandez Brothers comic book fame Love and Rockets. She became a photographer at the age of 13 and almost solely shot punk bands, specifically local Nardcore bands. She graduated Otis/Parsons School of Design with a degree in photography. She also published, edited, shot, and wrote for her magazine Mute on the Floor which existed from 1990-1993. Kirsten (Bruce) Meekins grew up in Redlands, California, and now splits her time between there and the Reno/Tahoe area of Northern Nevada. She is a Registered Natural Health Practitioner and has just launched a new nutrition coaching practice. She still attends as many live music shows as she can and credits the DIY scene in the 80s with her entrepreneurial spirit. Laura Beth Bachman lives in Downtown Long Beach with her partner, Matt Irwin. She is the drummer for the all girl surf/punk band The Neptunas. Laura is a truth seeker and beat keeper who believes it takes grit to be a woman in this world. Stacy Russo, a librarian and professor at Santa Ana College, is a writer, poet, and artist. Her book We Were Going to Change the World: Interviews with Women from the 1970s/1980s Southern California Punk Rock Scene (Santa Monica Press) features interviews with 37 women who were involved in the scene in diverse ways, including as musicians, photographers, journalists, fanzine creators, and fans. Her other books are Love Activism (forthcoming spring 2018, Litwin Books);Life as Activism: June Jordan’s Writings from The Progressive (Litwin Books); and The Library as Place in California (McFarland). She grew up in the 1980s Southern California punk rock scene, which has been a big influence on her life. Stacy takes her coffee black and eats chocolate every morning. We Were Going to Change the World: Interviews with Women from the 1970s and 1980s Southern California Punk Rock Scene documents the punk rock scene of the 1970s and ’80s in Southern California, which is widely acknowledged as one of the most vibrant, creative periods in all of rock and roll history. And while many books have covered the artists who contributed to the music of that era, none have exclusively focused on the vitality and influence of the women who played such a crucial role in this incredibly dynamic and instrumental movement. We Were Going to Change the World captures the stories of women who were active in the SoCal punk rock scene during this historic time, adding an important voice to its cultural and musical record. Through exclusive interviews with musicians, journalists, photographers, and fans, Stacy Russo has captured the essence of why these women were drawn to punk rock, what they witnessed, and how their involvement in this empowering scene ended up influencing the rest of their lives. 1888 Center programs are recorded and archived as a free educational resource on our website or with your favorite podcast app including Apple and Spotify. Irwin spoke with me at length about his long road to the NHL and what he’ll have to do to stay there, the tough decisions he was required to make and small window of opportunity he had to live out his dream, past teammates that helped get him where he is now, current ones that help make him better, what the San Jose Sharks will have to do to win their first Stanley Cup, what it takes to be consistently inserted into a lineup full of Olympians, All-Stars, and Stanley Cup champions, and more.
