Sweet and Lowdown opened on December 3rd in just 3 theaters and taking in an impressive 31,562 dollar per screen average Written and directed by Woody Allen, it stars Sean Penn as fictional jazz guitar legend Emmet Ray alongside Samantha Morton and Uma Thurman, Brad Garrett, John Waters, Anthony LaPaglia, and Brian Markinson, among others. Sweet and Lowdown was a welcome end to what many saw as a mid-90s slump for Allen, who had released a string of movies who that had been received with mixed or sometimes scathing reviews, like 1995's Mighty Aphrodite, 1996's Everyone Says I Love You, 1997's Deconstructing Harry, and 1998's Celebrity. It's also difficult to not see in light of revelations of Allen's darker behaviors throughout his career, to say nothing of Penn. But it can also sweet and charming, and its jazz-age nostalgia is as hard to resist as Morton's acclaimed, Oscar-nominated silent performance. Joining John and Julia to talk through Sweet and Lowdown's ups and downs is actor, writer, and director Liz Whitmere, who has some thoughts on toxic behavior in the entertainment industry. He is of Polish Jewish and Russian Jewish descent.Rapaport moved to Los Angeles to try stand-up comedy following high school graduation (which came after a series of expulsions), but he never lost, forgot or deserted his New York roots. It's embedded in his work and is a major part of his low-keyed charm and ongoing appeal. His early idols were also New Yorkers (Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, etc.).Within a short amount of time Michael moved from the live comedy stage to working in front of a camera. The two developed an immediate rapport. A guest spot on the TV series China Beach (1988) led to a starring role in the quirky interracial indie Zebrahead (1992), which clinched it for him. This, in turn, led to a string of standout parts in films, such as Christian Slater's pal in True Romance (1993), an edgy collegiate-turned-skinhead in Higher Learning (1995) and a sympathetic none-too-bright boxer in Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite (1995), all enabling him to build up a higher profile. In later years, Michael managed to show his ease at offbeat comedy, demonstrating a kid-like, goofy charm as Lisa Kudrow's cop boyfriend for a few episodes on Friends (1994) and as teacher Danny Hanson on Boston Public (2000).He later formed his own production company, Release Entertainment, in search of that one big breakout role that could nab top stardom for him. In later years, his offbeat character leads included an inducted mafioso in Kiss Toledo Goodbye (1999); a hit man in the action comedy A Good Night to Die (2003); a comic book fanatic in the sci-fi comedy Special (2006); a trouble-making buddy in crime drama Inside Out (2011); a man helping out his former gangster neighbor in the dramedy Once Upon a Time in Queens (2013); and a married guy trying to get his mojo back in the comedy My Man Is a Loser (2014). For the most part, however, he served extremely well in support of other prominent stars with weird-to-bizarre featured roles for Woody Allen in his crime comedy Small Time Crooks (2000); for Arnold Schwarzenegger in the futuristic actioneer The 6th Day (2000); for Will Smith in the romantic /comedy Hitch (2005); for Ray Romano and Kevin James in the comedy crimer Grilled (2006); for Billy Bob Thornton in the action comedy The Baytown Outlaws (2012); for Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in the crime comedy The Heat (2013); and for Tom Hanks in the biopic Sully (2016).Rapaport married writer Nicole Beatty in 2000 and divorced seven years later after having two children. In 2016, he married actress Kebe Dunn.#RapaportsReality #MichaelRapaport #KebeRapaport #RealityTV #PodcastLife #iHeartPodcasts #DBPodcasts #ComedyGold #ActingLegend #TVAddicts #PopCultureJunkies #BravoTV #WatchWhatHappensLive #RealityTVLovers #PodcastersOfYouTube #EntertainmentNews #CelebrityInterviewsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.

Aphrodite graces her presence on The Goddess, The Witch & The Womb podcast this week! At first blush, she is a beautiful Goddess of love, beauty and sex, but she's so much more than that! She challenges us on a soul level to not only own our power, but to be authentic in it.  Women can use sex to manipulate. This is an area where we can explore our shadow, especially with our behaviors and interactions. What is the motivation for using your sensual energy? Is it pure or are you using your sexual energy to manipulate? Aphrodite is a Goddess who is not shamed, guilted or traumatized by her sensuality, in fact, she is loved and honored for it! She is a revered feminine energy that has lasted through patriarchy and the ages of sexual repression. How can she influence your magical practice? Electric Idol is the fabulous Book 2, and the third book of the four-book series, Wicked Beauty, will be published next month. I'm beyond excited. This episode included an excerpt from Stephen Fry's fantastic Mythos audiobook. It's a collection of Greek myths, retold by the beloved British writer, actor and comedian.Movies/TV ShowsJoseph Campbell's The Power of Myth is a classic book and TV show, and both are well worth the time. I don't watch a lot of movies based on comic book characters, but I was absolutely stunned at how compelling and impressive Wonder Woman was —both the movie and the title character, played by Gal Gadot (one day, I'll pronounce her entire name correctly).Mighty Aphrodite is an ironic take on the eternal push-pull of love and desire. Not every joke has aged well but there's still a lot of clever charm in the story. Mira Sorvino is phenomenal — she won an Oscar and Golden Globe for her performance.Lore Olympus is a super popular webtoon that's now being adapted as a YA animated series.Support the show

From the film's write-up: "Young Sara Hopkins is, unlike most people, willing to take God at His word. So when she hears a preacher say faith can move mountains, she starts praying! What begins with a mysteriously healed bird leads to people suddenly cured of their misery and misfortune all over town" (and the plot continues from there...) Director Rich Correll says the lesson of the movie is that no situation, no matter how dire or painful, is beyond the reach of God's ability to hearten and heal. It's his indefatigable and passionate pursuit of these mysteries, his insatiable curiosity of the world around him and his unique and finely tuned storytelling abilities that have earned Richard Syrett the moniker, Canada's Art Bell. And on Friday April 24th, 2009, Richard guest-hosted Coast to Coast filling in for George Noory. First, foremost, and always a broadcaster. Richard's writing, story-telling, and interviewing skills, infectious enthusiasm and the ability to stare down chaos and confusion with a smile make Richard a rare and valuable media commodity. He has been producing fresh, compelling and provocative talk radio in Toronto, North America's fourth largest market, for nearly 20 years. After graduating top of his class from Centennial College's Radio and Television Program in 1992 he began working almost immediately at one of North America's blowtorch stations, the legendary CFRB AM 1010. He received his “doctorate” in broadcasting working as the producer for such talk show legends as Larry Solway, Ed Needham, the late Brian Linehan, Andy Barrie, John Oakley, Michael Coren, Jim Richards and Spider Jones. In 1999 he took over the microphone for the first time with his own talk show and by 2000, his arcane Sunday night program examining political intrigue, the dark side of geo-politics, cover-ups, corruption, alternative energy, alternative health and unexplained phenomenon, had become an appointment tune. In 2003, his special brand of talk was chronicled on the front page of The Globe and Mail's Review section (Canada's national newspaper) and that spring his show earned a 13 share in Toronto's very competitive market. Later in 2003, Richard left CFRB for cross-town rival, AM 640 to build and produce an edgy, funny new morning show and continue his own unique show on Friday nights. The show continued to be a ratings grabber, drawing a larger audience than the stations' hockey broadcasts of the city's beloved Maple Leafs. Richard was lured back to CFRB in early 2007 to host five nights a week. Over its two year The Mighty Aphroditerun, it garnered a dedicated, even zealous, following. He consistently beat his rival in the market, the behemoth Coast to Coast by as much as 2 share points. When Richard's show was suddenly and unexpectedly cut from CFRB's line-up as part of a ‘corporate reorganizing' Richard's devoted listeners organized and staged a rally outside the radio station in minus 30 degree weather! Despite being off the air, his past, archived RB shows continue to be downloaded from his website. One of his last shows in December of 2008 has been downloaded in excess of 31,000 times. Richard has obviously struck a chord with a huge market and has become the new voice of alternative talk radio. Richard is not, however, a one-note wonder. As a whimsical impressionist, he had created followings for his fictitious characters during his morning show producing stint and he is recognized for his political acuity. Richard resides in Unionville, Ontario with his Mighty Aphrodite and their twin boys.

In this episode, movies that spurred our love of low budget cinema. Previously we looked at William Shatner's The Intruder, the Blaxploitation classic Dolemite and the Paul Bartel / Mary Woronov comedy Eating Raoul. In Episode 14 we discuss everyone's favorite breast fetishist Russ Meyer and the movie Up!, a bizarre murder mystery comedy that has a Greek chorus, a la Woody Allen's Mighty Aphrodite. "Soft-core shenanigans" and Raven De La Croix cross our radar as well. Also, the Roger Corman production Rock 'n' Roll Highschool. It features PJ Soles, who was in Halloween and the quite awful Alienator (We love Corman, especially his animals run amok flicks like The Nest and Piranha). Finally, we turn to one of our absolute favorites, the Brian De Palma helmed The Phantom of the Paradise, starring the very much alive Paul Williams (oops) which in our mind is far far superior to Rocky Horror.

Featuring film actor Michael Rapaport. A true New Yorker through and through, Michael Rapaport, the son of a radio program manager, may have moved to Los Angeles to try stand-up comedy following high school graduation (which came after a series of expulsions), but he never lost, forgot nor deserted his roots. It’s embedded in his work and is a major part of his low-keyed charm and ongoing appeal. His early idols were also New Yorkers (Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, etc.). He toiled only briefly in L.A. Within a short amount of time Michael moved from the live comedy stage to working in front of a camera. The two developed an immediate rapport. A guest spot on the TV series “China Beach” (1988) led to a starring role in the quirky interracial indie Zebrahead (1992), which clinched it for him. This, in turn, led to a string of standout parts in films, such as Christian Slater’s pal in True Romance (1993), an edgy collegiate-turned-skinhead in Higher Learning (1995) and a sympathetic none-too-bright boxer in Woody Allen’s Mighty Aphrodite (1995), all enabling him to build up a higher profile. In later years he managed to show his ease at offbeat comedy, demonstrating a kid-like, goofy charm as Lisa Kudrow’s cop boyfriend for a few episodes on “Friends” (1994) and as teacher Danny Hanson on “Boston Public” (2000). Lately he has formed his own production company, Release Entertainment, in search of that one big breakout role that could nab top stardom for him.
