Jacob Batalon plans his vampire empire, muses on representation, and admires an unexpected cartoon character. More about Jacob Batalon: Actor and executive producer, Jacob Batalon, has established himself as a leading star in the industry with his ability to resonate with his characters and captivate global audiences. Following the success of his scene-stealing role as Peter Parker's charming best friend ‘Ned Leeds' in the MCU Spider-Man films with Tom Holland, Batalon continues to dominate film and television both on and off the screen. More about Reginald the Vampire: Reginald Andres finally got his life together – when he was turned into a vampire. While he doesn't fit into the stereotypical expectations of what a vampire looks like – he's not chiseled or classically handsome – Reginald has found his place amongst an unlikely cohort that includes the cool vampire who sired him, the former vampire chieftain turned unexpected ally (or is she?), and his co-worker/former girlfriend. A show with a lot of heart and just enough blood, “Reginald the Vampire” proves the undead life is just as complicated as life itself. Ned describes how wonderful it is to be able to open up, come out of his shell and feel comfortable being who he is regardless of his looks. Welcome to Season 2, Episode 35!  About 49 years ago, Bruce Lee passed away at the age of 32. Even to this day, Lee is an icon and role model for martial arts, activism, and the Asian Pacific Islander community. With the anniversary of his passing coming up on July 20, we take time to share a little about his life and career. His memory and ideas are still honored by his daughter Shannon Lee and the Bruce Lee Foundation. The foundation is supported through sales of books, shirts, and more at the Bruce Lee Store. We begin this episode by discussing some current events and end it with a new segment called Spectacular API Sidekicks where we decide to embrace the fact that API characters have often been the sidekick in stories. We select one and talk about what makes them amazing. This installment we reflect on Ned Leeds, the spectacular sidekick and “man in the chair” for the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Spider-Man. This role is played by Jacob Battalon, a Filipino American actor born in Hawaii. This is actually a stand-in for the TRUE Episode 16, which was a massively good recording with Richard LeBlanc of http://savevsdragon.blogspot.com/  and New Big Dragon Games talking all about random generators for games and including his awesome D30 line available on DriveThru that didn't (explicative) record!  We will cast Charm Person on his merciful heart and get another recording of that episode put together soon.  In the meantime, we made a recording covering another proven winner, "The Sinister Secrets of Saltmarsh" and the entire U series with some comparisons to the 5e "Ghosts of Saltmarsh."  This is a fun episode and believe it or not, we didn't even break and hour and a half! (Of course, we cut out 3 segments...).  Anyhow, hope you enjoy this conversation about this great old product and please check out this fan made site for Temple of Elemental Evil directed to us from Ned Leeds (mentioned in the Letters from the Homeowners Association): https://1eonline.info/t/t.htm

A happy and healthy 2022 to all of you Fabulous Film Loving Friends out there! We're ringing in the New Year by pandering to the masses and discussing the latest and biggest Marvel blockbuster to date, 2021's Spider-Man No Way Home, directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland as everyone's favorite wisecracking wallcrawler. Joining me today are two of the stalwart members of  Disney/Marvel's key demographic,  my 11 year old nephew Raphael and my son Marco. And serving in the role of the exasperated, disheartened chaperone, my sister  Roseanne Caputi. Before we dive in: the synopsis! The 8th solo live action Spider-Man movie but the third film in a recent trilogy which picks up exactly where the previous film, Spider Man Far From Home left off, Spider-Man No Way Home finds its teenaged hero Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, framed for the murder of his enemy Mysterio, while at the same time, having his secret identity as Spider-Man revealed to the entire world via a prerecorded and heavily edited video sent by Mysterio before his death. With much of the world believing Mysterio to be a hero, Peter is thrust into the position of having to clear his name legally and endure the hostility of John Q. Public. This, in turn, causes not only his college application to M.I.T. to be denied but also the applications of Pete's girlfriend M.J. and best friend Ned Leeds as well. Believing his life and that of those around him to be ruined, Peter solicits the help of Dr. Stephen Strange, a fellow superhero and sometime teammate on the super team known as the Avengers. Strange is the Master of The Mystic Arts and Pete asks him to create a spell that will make the entire world forget that he is Spider-Man. Dr. Strange agrees reluctantly, but the spell goes awry due to Peter's interference in its incantation and instead of making everyone forget Spider-Man's secret identity, the spell opens a portal to comic book gobbledygook known as the multiverse, where all the villains in the various dimensions (i.e. different movie series with Spider-Man) who know that Peter Parker is Spider-Man start to appear.   This villainous roster includes Dr. Octopus, The Green Goblin and Sandman from the first Sam Raimi directed trilogy, and Electro and The Lizard from the second film series directed by Marc Webb. Dr. Strange has the ability to send the villains back to the universes in which they belong, but upon hearing that most of those villains will die battling Spider-Man, Peter disobeys and disables Strange and sets upon a mission to cure the villains of their evil ways. This plan, of course, backfires terribly and Pete is beset by unimaginable tragedy and a sense of utter hopelessness but Ned and MJ, in trying to locate Peter through a magic ring, call upon other figures from the multiverse who arrive to help Peter see the truth about the purpose of Spider-Man and to save the day. And that, my friends, is NOT a simple plot synopsis but I think it's as clear cut and fathomable as I can make it. What's it all mean? Is it any good? Find out! WARNING:  this podcast reveals MASSIVE SPOILERS!!

Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third MCU solo Spider-Man movie, has become the highest-grossing Sony Pictures' movie of all time, besting its previous instalment, Spider-Man: Far From Home which was released in 2019. Starring Tom Holland as the web-slinger, the Jon Watts movie has also garnered immensely favourable reviews from critics and fans. Today, we bring to you some interesting facts and trivia that you may not have known about this tentpole.  Benedict Cumberbatch, who reprises his role as Doctor Strange in No Way Home, did not read the script of the movie before filming it since he also wanted to experience watching the film for the first time, like the viewers2. Jacob Batalon underwent significant weight loss, of around 50 kgs, for his role in the film. However, the actor, who plays Peter Parker's best friend Ned Leeds in the film, admitted that the weight loss was also a lifestyle choice he made. 3. The first official trailer of Spider-Man: No Way Home is now the most-watched trailer ever on YouTube within a span of 24 hours. The record was earlier held by another MCU movie. It is, of course, Avengers: Endgame. 4. Tom Holland's younger brother Harry could have had his big Hollywood break with the film.  He had shot for a cameo sequence in it as a drug dealer, much like his previous appearance in Cherry. Unfortunately, the scene was later edited out. 5. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Flash Thompson's book is titled Flashpoint. This is a sly reference to DC, which also has a similar comic book revolving around The Flash. 6. In the scene where Tom Holland comes face to face with Doctor Otto Octavius on the bridge, he is seen wearing a suit identical to the one Tobey wore in the first portion of Spider-Man 3.Alright, that's all we got about Spider-Man: No way Home. I shall be back again with another podcast about another popular film or show. Until next time it's your host Nikhil out here.

The News @ 0:13:17, starting off with an overview of what premiering media (TV and Movies) we'll be discussing this month on the podcast, totaling seven different projects across the MCU, DCEU, Star Wars, and other geeky pop-culture topics; before going into.... Ms Marvel @ 0:17:03 discussing drama and curiosity over an initial promo poster and a leaked behind-the-scenes pic; Spiderman: No Way Home @ 0:22:32, we have not only official images, but a plethora of leaked behind-the-scenes pics, and a rumor about Ned Leeds--where I cover his comic history, too; Batgirl @ 0:33:13, with the news Brendan Fraser has reportedly been cast as Firefly. Discussion includes character comic history and various theories; Ant-Man and the Wasp @ 0:38:04 talking the somewhat hilarious Quantumania title leak, what it could indicate, and news and theories on a surprise guest star/cameo; Book of Boba Fett @ 0:41:12, doing a total trailer breakdown, celebrating the lead actors, and being generally excited; Val-Zod HBOMax @ 0:57:34 covering the news of the new writers on this Michael B. Jordan project, as well as the comic history of the character himself; Then a reminder @ 1:03:16 of the Morbius Trailer coming out tomorrow (and why I'm...hesitant...), which I'll cover on the next episode alongside the comic history of Morbius, and what extremely theoretical connections Leto's version could have with the MCU/D+ shows.  Then we get into Last Week In Comics @ 1:5:15 for comics out Oct. 27th, mostly talking about Hickman's Inferno #2; This week's New Comic Pull List @ 1:18:17, with a bunch of #1's and a spoiler recap of Batman: Reptilian's wild events; and finally, Young Justice season 4 @ 1:29:20, recapping episodes 1-4, which encompasses the first arc of this season. The next episodes surround Artemis and Cheshire! Whether we liked the news or disliked it (most of us disliked it), there is one thing all of us can agree on - this new deal between Sony and Disney will result in drastic changes to Peter Parker's storyline and character arc in future appearances. Who exactly is at fault here? And what will be Spidey's future, in whatever universe? Tune in to this episode for the latest grasp on potentially the worst thing to happen to MCU fans thus far (taste of how DCEU fans haven't got that Snyder Cut). This time on the Couch: Mike, James, and Shée revisit the Spider-Clone saga with 1975's Amazing Spider-Man no. 149! The Jackal's war with ol' Webpits finally reaches its conclusion when the villain unleashes his secret weapon: A clone of Spider-Man's hot dead girlfriend! Oh, and also a clone of Spider-Man himself, who is summarily forgotten about pretty much instantly. And just for good measure, the Jackal has also kidnapped Ned Leeds, who will eventually become the Hobgoblin, because everyone in Peter Parker's life becomes a supervillain who hates him. Also, how does Spidey make his web fluid? You'll wanna clone yourself so you can listen twice as often!Find out more at http://darkseidscouch.com

We’re back for part 2 of our Character Corner series on the history of Peter Parker as Spider-Man. Our first part covered the teenage years of Peter Parker, the death of Gwen Stacy and the original Clone Saga. This second part covers even more as Peter grows up and as Marvel increases the Spider-Man brand. By this time there are now four ongoing Spider-Man titles: Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Team-Up (1972) Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) Web of Spider-Man (1985) Peter’s Love Life We tend to oversimplify the love life of Peter Parker into just Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. But the truth is, Peter not only had a very complex love life, many of the women in his life stick around and have a big impact on his life. When covering his teenage years, you see Peter deal with Liz Allan, Betty Brant, MJ and obviously, Gwen Stacy. Moving forward into his 20’s, these women continue to be involved in various ways. Liz becomes the wife of Harry Osborn. Betty marries Ned Leeds and later has an affair with Flash Thompson becoming tangled up in the saga of the Hobgoblin. This time also adds in Felicia Hardy, Black Cat. Felicia becomes almost a kindred spirit for Peter at this time when they first fall for each other in their costumes. Spectacular Spider-Man issues 73-79 take place during the war between the Owl and Doctor Octopus and Spider-Man & Black Cat are caught in the middle. It’s during this time that Peter confesses that he’s fallen in love with Felicia. Peter also really pisses of Doctor Octopus after he rips out his mechanical arms. Octavius then vows revenge against Peter and Felicia in a chilling panel. Peter frequently bounces between Felicia and MJ during this time not knowing who to really settle on. He eventually ends up proposing to MJ (after a previously failed attempt) and they get marred in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21. But during this issue you see that Peter still struggles with leaving behind the memory of and moving on from Gwen Stacy.   The Death of Jean DeWolff The death of Captain Jean DeWolff is covered in Spectacular Spider-Man 107-110 and it is a dark and gritty story. DeWolff is killed by a serial killer named Sin-Eater who also kills a Judge in front of Matt Murdock and murders a preacher. Peter takes the death of Jean DeWolff personally, not only because she always treated him fairly but because he later founds out, she was actually a fan of Spider-Man. It’s then revealed that Sin-Eater is actually another officer in the police department, Stanley Carter. Peter’s anger at Sin-Eater and violence puts him at odds with Daredevil. The end of this arc comes with Spider-Man and Daredevil revealing each other’s alter egos to each other. The story doesn’t end there. Marvel does a great job with seeding long term Spider-Man stories. The true ending of the death of Jean DeWolff comes 22 issues later in issue #132 when Stanley Carter is released from a mental hospital after treatment. Spider-Man shows up at Carter’s new house to threaten him, only to find that Carter can barely walk. Carter reveals that in their last confrontation, Spider-Man beat him so bad he permanently caused damage. But in a surprise, Carter doesn’t blame Spider-Man and actually thanks him because if not for the beating, Carter might not have been able to shake the Sin-Eater persona. What follows is a dark tale of Spider-Man coming to terms with the fact that he can do serious damage to his enemies when he fights and doubting himself and Carter trying to keep the Sin-Eater persona from coming back. The Hobgoblin Saga The Hobgoblin doesn’t get enough credit for being a great Spider-Man villain. I’m sure we sold him short in our Rogue War character corner. The mystery of was who the real Hobgoblin is one of the longest, if not the longest, mysteries in comic books. The true identity of the real Hobgoblin wasn’t really revealed until Roger Stern came back in 1997 with Spider-Man: The Ho...
