rWotD Episode 2736: Teruel Airport Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia’s vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Wednesday, 30 October 2024 is Teruel Airport.Teruel Airport (IATA: TEV, ICAO: LETL) is an airport near Teruel in the Teruel Province of Spain. Known under the commercial name Plataforma Aeroportuaria-Teruel (PLATA), it was certified for public use by the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA) on 5 February 2013, after being repurposed from an original military airbase. Permission for air operations was granted by the AESA on 28 February 2013. The airport serves as an aircraft maintenance and aircraft storage facility for the Tarmac Aerosave company, and has no passenger traffic. The airport includes a main building with a control tower as well as a basic terminal, but is not equipped to handle passenger traffic. An aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) station is located next to the terminal. Also on site are three main maintenance and part-removal hangars (the original one for Boeing 747s and the newest for Airbus A340s). PLATA is owned by a consortium formed by the Government of Aragon and Teruel City Council, and does not belong to Aena Group, the Spanish airports management company. The dry climate makes the airport suitable for long-term aircraft storage, with capacity for 250 aircraft. During the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately 100 grounded planes were parked there. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:28 UTC on Wednesday, 30 October 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Teruel Airport on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Kimberly.

When I moved from the big city to a rural community,  I suspected that the fire department here had to operate differently.  From my first day in the area, I started noticing many differences. I didn't see any fire hydrants and I knew my residential water came from a pretty small water department.  It seemed there was always a brush fire or some type of structure fire off in the distance. Less than a half mile down the road from my home, I saw a fire station…. next to a major interstate. Almost everyday, a fire engine roared by my house followed by a tanker. The sides of the apparatus read "WCFPD."  That was about the extent of my knowledge about this fire department... until a few months later...when my, then, 18 year old son started volunteering as a fire fighter there.Williamson County Fire Protection District or WCFPD may be small when compared to big city fire departments but I soon discovered that it is actually an amazing fire department and serves it's community well here in Southern Illinois.  Their  training, the emergency response… is second to none…..which includes Hazmat, Aircraft Rescue  and Firefighting (ARFF), wild land firefighting, rescue…. automotive , structure fires of any size…. and always some unique calls that are found only in rural America.   To provide such a service to the community takes leadership.  Williamson County Fire Protection District has that experienced leadership …. and many are volunteers.  In this Emergency FD storyline podcast, I talk to the man at the top… Chief Jeremy Norris.Innovative Firefighting: The Volunteer Heroes…-Tom MannHost & Executive ProducerEMERGENCYFD STORYLINE  Storylines guests include:   Chief Jeremy Norris- Williamson County Fire Protection DistrictWilliamson County, IllinoisGo to emergencyfd.com for more podcasts.Support EmergencyFD Storyline at emergencyfd.comEmail EmergencyFD Storyline:  storyline@emergencyfd.comSupport the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=4ZST3HRUMZG36)PPE provided to the EmergencyFD video team by MSAAt MSA, our business is safety. Ready For Takeoff - Turn Your Aviation Passion Into A Career

From Wikipedia: An engineered materials arrestor system, engineered materials arresting system (EMAS), or arrester bed is a bed of engineered materials built at the end of a runway to reduce the severity of the consequences of a runway excursion. Engineered materials are defined in FAA Advisory Circular No 150/5220-22B as "high energy absorbing materials of selected strength, which will reliably and predictably crush under the weight of an aircraft". While the current technology involves lightweight, crushable concrete blocks, any material that has been approved to meet the FAA Advisory Circular can be used for an EMAS. The purpose of an EMAS is to stop an aircraft overrun with no human injury and minimal aircraft damage. The aircraft is slowed by the loss of energy required to crush the EMAS material. An EMAS is similar in concept to the runaway truck ramp made of gravel or sand. It is intended to stop an aircraft that has overshot a runway when there is an insufficient free space for a standard runway safety area (RSA). Multiple patents have been issued on the construction and design on the materials and process. FAA Advisory Circular 150/5220-22B explains that an EMAS may not be effective for incidents involving aircraft of less than 25,000 pounds weight. It also clarifies that an EMAS is not the same as a stopway, which is defined in FAA Advisory Circular 150/5300-13A, Section 312. As of May 2017, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has been working on developing a harmonized regulation regarding arresting systems. Research projects completed in Europe have looked into the cost-effectiveness of EMAS. Although arrestor beds have initially been installed at airports where the runway safety areas are below standards, their ability to stop aircraft with minimal or no damage to the air frame and its occupants has proven to bring results far beyond the cost of installations. The latest report, "Estimated Cost-Benefit Analysis of Runway Severity Reduction Based on Actual Arrestments" shows how the money saved through the first 11 arrestments has reached a calculated total of 1.9 Billion USD, thus saving over $1 B over the estimated cost of development (R&D, all installations worldwide, maintenance and repairs reaching a total of USD 600 Million). The study suggests that mitigating the consequences of runway excursions worldwide may turn out to be much more cost-effective than the current focus on reducing the already very low probability of occurrence. Higher EMAS bed with side steps to allow aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) access and passenger egress. The FAA's design criteria for new airports designate Runway Safety Areas (RSA's) to increase the margin of safety if an overrun occurs and to provide additional access room for response vehicles. A United States federal law required that the length of RSA's in airports was to be 1,000 feet (300 m) by the end of 2015, in a response to a runway overrun into a highway at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.[ At airports built before these standards were put into effect, the FAA has funded the installation of EMAS at the ends of main runways. The minimum recommended overall length of an EMAS installation is 600 feet (180 m), of which at least 400 feet (120 m) is to consist of the frangible material. As of July 2014, 47 United States airports had been so equipped; the plan was to have 62 airports so equipped by the end of 2015.[ As of May 2017, over 100 EMAS have been installed at over 60 US airports. As of May 2017, there were two recognized EMAS manufacturers worldwide that meet the FAA requirements of Advisory Circular 150-5220-22B, “Engineered Materials Arresting Systems for Aircraft Overruns.” (The FAA must review and approve each EMAS installation.) The first, original EMAS was developed in the mid-1990s by Zodiac Arresting Systems (then known as ESCO/Engineered Arresting Systems Corp.) as part of a collaboration and technical acceptance by the FAA. EMASMAX® (fourth generation EMAS) arrestor beds are composed of blocks of lightweight, crushable cellular cement material, encased in jet blast resistant protection, designed to safely stop airplanes that overshoot runways. Zodiac’s latest, most durable EMAS is installed on over 110 airport runways at over 65 airports on three continents. Zodiac's EMAS has undergone intense testing, including several live aircraft test runs at speeds up 55 knots and is the world’s first and only EMAS that has safely stopped aircraft in real emergency overrun situations at commercial airports. In October 2016 EMAS saved Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence's B737 from a runway overrun at La Guardia Airport, and in December 2018 EMAS saved a Southwest Airlines B737 at Burbank Airport. Runway Safe EMAS (second generation EMAS) is a foamed silica bed made from recycled glass and is contained within a high-strength plastic mesh system anchored to the pavement at the end of the runway. The foamed silica is poured into lanes bounded by the mesh and covered with a poured cement layer and treated with a top coat of sealant.[ Runway Safe EMAS has been installed to replace older EMAS at Chicago Midway. Runway Safe has also installed an EMAS at Zurich airport 2016. There is a third manufacturer, certified by the Chinese CAAC, with a product that is very similar to the original one of Zodiac ESCO.

Fire Recruitment Australia Podcast

I'm going to run you through the pay rates for all the fire services around Australia or most of them, to give you an idea of what you're going to get paid as a firefighter. Then I'm going to do an average so that I answers that question broadly, but I'll go as deep as possible as I can on the data that we've got on the sheet behind it. I'll also put the document up so you can download it if you want all in one spot. I'll go through it all so it's nice and easy to look at the service that you're applying to and figure out how much you're going to get paid. These figures are up to date as of, most of them, 2007/ 2008. There's after those we could possibly get them at this point in time. So each year I'll try and update this but this is how we're going to do it for now.So QFES, a recruit firefighter is currently getting 2555 bucks, that's 89 a fortnight. So times that by 26 and you get yearly wage. And the classification firefighter 2651 should match out the gates. So that's per fortnight. SAMFS pay rate as of 2004 down through to 2017 is as written in this document here. So you'll have to download that one to get that. DFES or WA Fire Service pay rate as of 2006 down, so these ones will be old but you'll get an indicative idea. So trainee firefighter 69,000 per year which is probably the highest in the country I reckon, just off the top of my head. So 70 grand a year as a trainee. Goes up to 76 when you stop being a trainee, so a fifth class firefighter. First class firefighters are known to earn to a grand which is pretty good. Semi-firefighter, 95. Station officer, 107. SO, 211. Area officer, 121. Right up there, Chief Superintendent at 150 grand. So that gives you a really good idea across the board of where you're going to start. I'd say their starting wage is probably a higher one in the country. So you can earn anywhere from sort of 60 grand to 150 in the fire service as a base rate. The next one is the pay rate for Fire Rescue New South Wales as of February 2017. So a recruit firefighter weekly rate of pay from the 16th of Feb will be 1207 bucks a week. So times that by 52 and you get the idea. Right up to the inspector and he's getting 2300 a week. So when you're a qualified firefighter it goes up to 1500 with Fire and Rescue New South Wales. Big pay rate, so these are just the firefighter levels. I can give you an idea of the other level. So a recruit firefighter is earning 1000 bucks a week. So 52 grand a year. So a little bit less than Western Australia pay rate which is 70, so 20,000 less as a recruit. Then you go on to station and it bumps up to 400 bucks extra a week which probably brings you a little bit closer, right up a qualified firefighter at 1550 which is the same as New South Wales essentially. Then ACT Fire and Rescue pay rates, that's another download. I can set up the links there for you, you just have to read that one yourself all in one spot at least. Tasmanian Fire Service pay rate. Trainee firefighter, this is as of 2010 so you can imagine this has gone up significantly, but 41 grand as a trainee. First class firefighter, 55. So I would say this is probably more in line with Vic anyway. That is a pretty old thing but that's all we could get off their website. ARFF pay rates as of 2007. Let's say you start as a recruit, what's a recruit getting? 35 grand. That's not great, that's what it is. Trainee firefighter level one, 61 grand. So it increases significantly once you sought of jump on board as a working firefighter. So then leading firefighters 87 which is pretty much in the mix. Then we've got a SSO and SO, so substation officer, that's the difference there. So, SO is actually a higher rank around 100 grand and the controls are 110. So slightly less than average what they have but all the same not too bad. Northern Territory, all of PFES, you're going to start off on 64 grand as a recruit. It goes up to 67 and then your classes are between 70 grand and 82 as a firefighter. Then you get standing and leading around the 90 grand mark. Station officers is about 100 and senior station officer 107. So slightly below average I reckon just looking at it. But that's the general gist of firefighter wages or firefighter salary for the different services around the country. So if you looked at an average of, I reckon, on the safe side sort of starting around the 50-ish, 55 grand mark as a recruit and then once you qualify looking at 70, 75 grand. So to give you a broad idea hopefully this has been helpful. I'm Brant Clayton this is Firerecruitmentaustralia.com.
