Have you ever gone to the dentist and they tell you just before they give you a Novocain shot that you will feel a little bit of pressure. How many of you know that they are lying that it's actually not pressure but pain? For many people we view the trials in our lives incorrectly as well. We see a crisis as correction and not as a compliment. God wants us to see pressure as a privilege. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/12/2024): 3:05pm- On Thursday, a coalition led by the United States—which included the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Bahrain—launched targeted military strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. According to reports, the U.S. hit over sixty targets using precision guided missiles, including some launched from submarines. The strike was in response to persistent attacks against U.S. personnel and shipping vessels in the Red Sea which have negatively impacted international shipping. But did President Joe Biden constitutionally have the authority to unilaterally authorize these strikes? Or did this infringe upon Congress' authority? 3:15pm- In a statement following a U.S.-led strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen, President Joe Biden explained recent attacks by the Iranian-backed militia group have “endangered U.S. personnel, civilian mariners and our partners, jeopardized trade and threatened freedom of navigation. More than 50 nations have been affected in 27 attacks on international commercial shipping. Crews from more than 20 countries have been threatened or taken hostage in acts of piracy. More than 2,000 ships have been forced to divert thousands of miles to avoid the Red Sea—which can cause weeks of delays in product shipping times. And on Jan. 9, Houthis launched their largest attack to date—directly targeting American ships.” You can read the President's full statement here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/11/us/politics/biden-statement-strikes-yemen-houthis.html 3:30pm- In a recent email, the Chief Diversity Officer at Johns Hopkins University offered a bizarre new definition of “privilege” which included anyone white, able-bodied, heterosexual, cisgender, Christians, the middle-aged, and English-speaking—as well as several other characteristics. Leadership at Johns Hopkins quickly condemned the regrettable incident in a statement, explaining: the aforementioned definition of privilege “runs counter to the values of our institution, and our mission and commitment to serve everyone equally.” 3:40pm- Rich underwent a dental procedure earlier today and, unfortunately, the Novocain he received didn't wear off before the show began. Listeners on Twitter have a field day mocking him! 4:05pm- On Wednesday night during a campaign appearance in Windham, NH, former New Jersey Governor Christ Christie announced he is suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. A recently released University of New Hampshire/CNN poll indicates Haley is trailing former President Donald Trump by only seven-points in the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary—39% to 32%. Interestingly, Christie is garnering 12% support. Despite placing the bulk of his resources in Iowa, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis trails former President Donald Trump by a whopping 36.4%, according to Real Clear Politics polling averages. Assuming he is unable to close that massive gap by Monday, January 15th—the day of the Iowa caucus—he'll likely drop out of the race. So, what would be next for DeSantis? Perhaps an endorsement of Trump and a 2028 presidential run? 4:10pm- Rich underwent a dental procedure earlier today and, unfortunately, the Novocain he received didn't wear off before the show began. Listeners on Twitter have a field day mocking him! 4:25pm- While appearing on Fox News with Laura Ingraham, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davies said that the Biden Administration's military strikes against Houthi rebels could draw the United States into a much larger conflict in the Middle East. 4:30pm- Dr. Victoria Coates— Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the Biden Administration's military strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen. Could the strikes result in an escalation of violence across the Middle East and potentially lead to a direct confrontation between America and Iran? For example, cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo notoriously use child laborers in incredibly dangerous mining sites. So, why do progressives turn a blind eye to these violations when they endlessly promote EVs? You can learn more about Power the Future here: https://powerthefuture.com/about-us/ 5:40pm- Jimmy Failla—stand-up comedian & Fox News Radio host—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his new show “Fox News Saturday with Jimmy Failla” which debuts this Saturday, January 13th. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) bizarrely stated that “our vegetables would rot in the ground if they weren't being picked by immigrants, many illegal immigrants.” 6:10pm- On Thursday, a coalition led by the United States—which included the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Bahrain—launched targeted military strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. In this episode we talk to Brian Rutenberg, College of Charleston alumnus and one of the great American painters of the past 30 years. "My entire experience here at the College of Charleston can be summarized in a single word. The word is yes. For the entire four years I was here 1983 to 1987. I never heard the word no, not even once. The answer to my every question was yes. And that made all the difference."On this episode of Speaking Of…College of Charleston podcast, we talk to Brian Rutenberg '87, College of Charleston alumnus and one of the great American painters of the past 30 years. CofC is a home away from home for Rutenberg who is one of 5 family members that attended the College, including his son and daughter who are currently enrolled in the Honors College. He has stayed actively engaged with the College over the years and generously donated his painting “Sandspur” (2017, 62x80 in., oil on linen), which will be hung in the recently renovated Simons Center for the Arts. Rutenberg grew up in Myrtle Beach, SC and lives and works in New York City.“Myrtle Beach, as you all know, is a resort town full of spastic neon blinking lights and arcades and amusement parks, surrounded by some of the most ravishing landscapes on the East Coast. And I paid attention,” says Rutenberg. “So, what I saw was miraculous, I saw two landscapes, one artificial and one natural, colliding head on at 200 miles an hour right in front of my eyes, and colliding so violently, that they seem to fuse into a third thing. And that elusive third thing has been the subject matter of my work for four decades. It's a pulsating energy. It's a visual propulsion that I couldn't articulate, but even as a kid back then knew that I had to do something with it, so that's what sort of set the tone for me to become a visual artist.”Rutenberg is nothing if not generous with his time and sharing lessons he's learned with the next generation of art students. “I feel like if I can do anything, to be of service to younger artists, or less experienced artists, then I feel like it makes me a better painter. (…) Working as an artist can be isolating so the reason I make the videos is to remind artists around the world that they are not alone. (…) By doing this, I hope to bring people into my studio, and not just show them technical stuff, which can be as boring as Novocain in a dental chair, I try to show them what an artist's life is like. I talk a little philosophy, a little personal anecdote, and then I mix some technical and art historical references in as well.”Resources from this Episode:Rutenberg's first painting class at the College was William Halsey's last before retiring. He credits Halsey as one of his major influences. https://vimeo.com/280620313To learn more about Rutenberg's time at the College and his artistic process:https://today.cofc.edu/2016/01/20/southern-landscape-painter-rutenberg/A Father figure to Rutenberg, professor and artist, Michael TyzackMFA at SVAA few of Rutenberg's favorite quotes:“If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.” – Albert Einstein “Don't think. Do you enjoy going to the dentist? Probably not, but one thing that makes it a little more bearable is Novocain. There're stages to getting numb. First, the drug is near you. The dentist has it in his hand and you're comforted that you don't have to do this without meds. Then, the drug is in you. At first, nothing happens. But soon, the power of the drug comes upon you. When the power is upon you, the work can begin. Like Novocain, the Holy Spirit has stages too. Today, Pastor Mark shows us that the Holy Spirit being with you and in you are necessary and important. But the real work begins when he comes upon you.
I had oral surgery earlier this week to alleviate some issues I've endured for far too long. The procedure went well and I was getting ready to leave the surgeon's office when his assistant handed me a sheet of paper with information typed out on both sides. She smiled and told me that once the Novocain wore off, I'd want to read both pages because it contained all the information I needed for after-surgery pain management and care. I read it before I got to the car! True to her word, those instructions saved me from what could have been an extremely painful after-surgery experience, but, by following the directions on those pages, my after-surgery effects were fairly mild and tolerable. You know, God has directions, too and if we follow them, our lives can be rich and full, but, if we don't…well, the outcome might not be as pleasant. On today's podcast, we'll look at, perhaps, the greatest instructions that we ever received, and the eternal consequences that come from either following them or rejecting them. Stay with me as we talk about: You Must Be Born Again! That's coming up on this episode of Living Lite Today.

Do I Know That My Patient is Comfortably Numb? Episode #341 with Tom Viola, R.Ph., C.C.P. Hello? Is there anybody in there? When it comes to ensuring that your patients are comfortably numb, there's a lot to consider—it's much more than just a little pinprick. Tom Viola joins Kirk Behrendt today to discuss the different types of anesthetic agents and how to improve the implementation of anesthesia in your practice. To find out how to ease your patients' pain and get them on their feet again, listen to Episode 341 of The Best Practices Show! Main Takeaways: When patients wait to seek dental care, it results in more pain. Novocain is typically considered the most common anesthetic, but almost no one uses it anymore. Different anesthetic agents are metabolized by the body in different ways. There's no one size fits all solution when it comes to anesthetic agents—the patient's medical history and condition can rule out the use of certain agents. Perfecting anesthesia isn't something that happens in the classroom—it takes time and practice. Quotes: “It's tough for dental professionals to take pharmacology and make it applicable and practical to their everyday practice.” (04:46—04:54) “My job is to make this whole world of pharmacology fit into bite-sized pieces that you can use to get better outcomes for your patients.” (05:47—05:56) “The reason is all about one thing—pain. Pain is a demotivator and a motivator for our patients.” (07:26—07:33) “If we can get that pain to be not a bad memory, but an ‘Ehh' memory, then they won't be so fearful next time, and they'll come back sooner, and we won't have this vicious cycle of pain being a demotivator and actually making the situation worse over time.” (09:49—10:05) “I can never teach anyone technique and accuracy because those are the skills you hone in years of clinical practice.” (10:42—10:50) “Am I using the right anesthetic agent for this patient based on their particular medical history and what medical complications they may have?” (12:25—12:36) “It's all about the type of anesthetic agent and making sure the patient understands that the anesthetic agents we're using, for the most part, are honed to perfection based on their specific needs.” (16:17—16:30) “If my expectation is I should be numb in a minute, and I'm not numb after five, I'm not blaming the anesthetic agent—I'm blaming you.” (20:56—21:04) “Just make sure of the selected agents you chose to be your favorites, you've got enough to cover every patient with every specific or individual type of medical complication.” (35:02—35:12) “While Prilocaine may be an amazing agent, this methemoglobinemia thing stands in the way of a lot of clinicians warming up to it.” (37:30—37:38) “I guess my greatest advice is don't be stuck with one [topical] because again, based on the procedure and the patient, you may want to decide to use a different topical versus one size fits all for all your patients.” (41:40—41:53) “When in doubt, always, always take what you've learned in podcasts like this and courses like mine you can take, and realize that you're the clinician.” (42:13—42:25) “Do your own research and come up with what you think—based on what I've said—is the right strategy for you, because not every anesthetic fits every patient.” (42:42—42:52) Snippets: Who is Tom Viola? (03:12—05:57) Why is this important? (07:16—09:59) Challenges of anesthesia. (10:24—13:22) A variety of anesthetic agents. (13:36—16:30) Advantages and disadvantages of agents. (16:43—24:57) Lidocaine vs. Mepivacaine. (25:06—35:12) Prilocaine and Bupivacaine. (35:38—39:03) Topicals. (39:04—41:53) Final thoughts. An excellent way to rise above physical pain is to divert your mind to something else. I've found, for example, when sitting in a dentist's chair (I haven't taken Novocain in years), that mentally composing music, or working out some passage in a book I was writing, helped greatly. The dentist's activities then became hardly noticeable (though often I've heard afterward that the dentist himself was perspiring with sympathetic pain!).Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ashanayaswami)
Once I went to the dentist to get a cavity filled, and they shot me up with Novocain. And my tongue also became numb. Unbeknownst to myself while I was under the Novocain, I had bit a hole in my tongue, not a big one but enough so that when the Novocain wore off, my tongue was throbbing in pain. And that pain sort of disrupted everything I was doing to the point that it overwhelmed my consciousness and overwhelmed my ability to get things done or to move around or to do anything. Fortunately, Allah has made things in such a way that your tongue heals quickly. And within a day or a day and a half or two days the pain was gone, and I was like a different person. Well, you should probably say a Fatiha after that kind of a recovery at least for the consciousness of understanding how close we are to being inoperable as beings at any moment and how there can be this amazing turn around so quickly that you go from inoperable to functioning as if that part of you that was inoperable is forgotten.Well, we don't just deal with physical pain. We also deal with psychic pain and with mental difficulties or with difficulties in our own consciousness because of certain weaknesses in our personal being to the point where circumstances overwhelm us. And sometimes these kinds of situations are more difficult to overcome than the situations dealing with a physical bruise.
I definitely floss everyday, for sure

Psalm 126 – 5 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. 6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them. ** Don’t waste your sorrows… See your tears as an opportunity for growth. You can’t stuff them… you get no fruit! You can’t just walk outside and dump a pile of seeds! No fruit! Look beneath the surface! What’s going on…? What’s underneath…? What’s under the hood…? What causes our tears? Psalm 42:5 – 5 My spirit, why are you so sad? Why are you so upset deep down inside me? ** Musicians get it! Eels… Songs like, “Novocain for the soul” and “Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor” & “Be Hurt”… probably most known for his songs on the Shrek movie… Mark Oliver Everett went on what he calls a project of self-improvement, during which he got married, got divorced and, at the age of 54, had a son. He also spent time reckoning with the losses he'd experienced earlier in life, including his sister's suicide, his mother's death from cancer and his father's fatal heart attack. Now he's back, with a new album, The Deconstruction: a reflection on both the pain and joy of life. He says the point of the record is that "life is constant motion." "We spend most of our lives after we're born slowly building up these defenses and walls around ourselves," Everett explains. "I just thought, 'What's underneath all that? What would happen if you tore down those defenses?” When we sow our tears… the promise of the Bible… tears don’t just go away or give way but actually produce joy! There is a joy comes from tears it is so rich and deep. So avoiding our tears doesn’t change us. But planting or invest more tears.

Welcome to the BRAND NEW Dern After Reading Podcast. This all came to be out of a mutual love of Laura Dern by your charming hosts Max and NicBefore this inaugural episode, lets set the ground rules of our show--One 'Big Dern' (feature length film) and one 'Little Dern' (TV movie/episode) per week-As well as a nice interstitial to break them up, known as 'Between Two Derns'.-We will discuss our films at length and decide the level of 'Derness' and what we learned. In this episode: Nic discusses the 2001 feature film "Novocain", Max and Nic talk about John Waters and a litany of media concerns, and Max closes us out with a scathing review of "More Things That Happened" (a compilation of deleted scenes for the 2006 David Lynch film "Inland Empire", for which Max has never seen). Needless to say not all Dern films are great, and not all directors can please Max (let it be known he really hates David Lynch). Follow us, give us your feedback, and stick around for more Dern!Email: dernafterreading@gmail.comInstagram: @dernafterreadingpodTwitter: @dernafterreadingpod
What do you do when the dentist that you work for, is quite literally the dentist from hell? We’ve all had bad bosses, but this one may take the cake! Its an adventure in non-sterile equipment, health violations, you name it! The dentist from hell, today on office horror stories! Here’s a preview of the office horror story we will be talking about: “He would also use the same capsule of Novocain from one patient to the next until they were empty. For the layman, a capsule is a little tube with the Novocain in it, that you would put into the metal holder, with a needle attached. Once you inject a patient using a capsule, there is a little spillback of saliva into the tube, and it is common to find blood in the half-used container. Between this and the not sterilizing the instruments, is where the HIV comes into play. In honesty, I do not know if he was spreading any diseases that way, but the potential there is HUGE. He would bring a big bag of raw vegetables in for his lunch every day, which he kept in the spare operatory. He would grab food out of that bag with gloved hands, and then return to work on the patient, back and forth, without changing gloves. He would go to the bathroom with gloves on and come out of the bathroom and return to working on the patient with the same gloves!” If you have an office horror story, we want to hear it! Episode 53:I recall the movie Road House starring Patrick Swayze as Dalton. In one scene after Dalton had been hurt, he was in the office of a doctor and soon to be girlfriend Kelly Doc Lynch to get stitches. Dalton had refused Novocain to deaden his skin in preparation for the needle used to sew his skin together. Doc asked him if he enjoyed pain. His reply is one Ive never forgotten Pain don't hurt. I've actually meditated on that tough guy response, because its actually a great Catholic common man or Catholic tough guy comment. Some people can’t bring themselves to visit a dentist. Others struggle to get themselves into their accountant’s office at tax time. And for many, fear of the unknown keeps them from reaching out to a lawyer whose specialty is manufacturers’ representative law. In this episode attorney Matthew Benson discusses the kind of conversation he and most MANA-associated attorneys have with MANA members before the clock on hourly billing starts to run, for example: What are my legal rights? How much will this cost? How do you evaluate my case? How long will this take? What disruptions may be incurred in my business? With Matthew’s insights, we discover that launching a new relationship with a lawyer who specializes in rep law involves minimal cost and absolutely no Novocain.
When you think about Christmas, what comes to mind? Tinsel or tension? If you are like most people, the family gathering elicits as much excitement as a trip to the dentist. And they give you Novocain at the dentist. We’ll examine the real reason for...

Part One -- The Cult of the ClawIn Episode Three (chapters six, seven and eight), we are introduced to the bit players in the novel — Seedy, Spider, Blossom and Hippolyta, Ted Shute’s giant-booted emo daughter. The narrator, Rob explains what The Cult of the Claw is all about, and we learn what Nick is thinking as he writes his e-journal in his beloved Titania3000. An excerpt from Nick’s journal: In the lab they asked me questions. Deep questions and I hid the answers. Like I do every day, except with you, my lovely Titania3000! Happily, the scientists decided to proceed. And they swabbed the lower end of my spine with Novocain, stinging, then numb. And in went a deep needle, fushed my fish, mealed my monkey, and deeper went the vile liquid that they wanted to test on me. It did no harm, except to say that now there is a large, swollen bump there, very near the base of my spine. It is tender. And red. Delicate like the prose in monkeyjoy! It proceeds in another file, a digital brother to this record of my transformation. Who knows, perhaps someday it will be done and we can all have soup for our souls – and not just of the chicken noodle variety! Mulligatawny ho!
