But being proactive about our health starts with awareness. What are the warning signs? Who's at risk? We spoke with Susanne Menon, NP, a nurse practitioner at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, to answer these essential questions. She shares key insights on how we can recognize the symptoms, discuss our concerns with healthcare providers, and helps us navigate the myths and facts surrounding ovarian cancer.

Starting in March 2014 Ursula walked from her home in Machynlleth, UK to a hospital appointment in Bristol then, during the six months before the next appointment she walked around, through, in, under and over Wales, in all its wonderful variations before returning to Bristol. Ashwini is the founder of Healthy Us- C2C, an upcoming author and Martial Arts (Karate and Taekwondo) practitioner. In 2017, She was diagnosed with Dysgerminoma (Ovarian cancer) when her daughter was one year old. Later after the treatment, she again gave birth to another kid in a year. Her journey is a roller coaster ride that helped her transform her mindset and build positivity in herself. Her vision is "To create a Cancer free world where every humankind leads a healthy, fit and fulfilled life where Cancer is just a zodiac sign." She was in an illusion and had a negative mindset for a few years after the treatment. Later, she transformed her life by changing her lifestyle, practising healthy foods habits, practising Martial Arts, and sleeping well. She started seeing life from a different angle by following some approaches. Then, she found the passion and purpose of her life one day: to inspire and motivate others. "I will not leave this earth until I transform the lives of survivors and spread awareness as much as possible." She mentors survivors in her unique style by combining healthy eating, mindfulness and holistic living, which will touch upon their lives and make them champions.
When business performance coach Melanie Holscher learned she had stage 4 ovarian cancer, it sounded more like a sentence than a diagnosis. And fighting the disease demanded more than she thought she could give. Waiting for doctors, waiting for test results and waiting to see how her body would respond to treatment. The uncertainty was terrifying, and her mind slipped into unfamiliar darkness. But Holscher was determined to fight back. Tapping into the same coaching techniques that helped thousands of business professionals, she ratcheted up her mental game. She prepared herself to overcome the most significant challenge she had ever faced. The result is Becoming Ovary Jones—a guidebook for developing your mental strength throughout your cancer battle and a message of hope: that mindset truly impacts outcomes. Melanie says, "challenge and expand your thoughts, along with concrete "Actionable Hopes"—every cancer fighter should bolster their courage and reclaim their healing mentality."
Dorine Olive was diagnosed with stage 2 ovarian cancer at 55. Dorine initially overlooked the slight pelvic pressure she was experiencing during yoga class because of an annual gynecologic exam earlier in the year that suggested she was in good health. After months of recognizing this odd sensation while in the twisted lunge and bow pose, Dorine made another Gynaec visit. A pelvic ultrasound discovered a five-inch mass, along with a white cloud-like area next to it. A total hysterectomy was scheduled to remove her ovaries in response to the ultrasound. The hysterectomy found the original mass benign but caught cancer next to it. Two types of cancer were found; endometrioid in one ovary and clear-cell in the other, and the malignancy had spread to her pelvic wall. Dorine's journey with chemotherapy then started, which was not pleasant for her at all. Dorine continues to overcome her hurdles with cancer by sharing her journey on social media. "I wanted to turn this into helping women understand and identify how to be in touch with their body," she said. "I want people to learn ways they can help others going through cancer, remove any stigmas, and have people ask me questions."

When they went to see the doctor, he asked to do some tests, and his mother was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. The whole family was shocked as she was the powerhouse of the family. Different doctors gave different opinions. Finally, they decided to go ahead with AIIMs Delhi for Cancer treatment. She started with Chemotherapy sessions. The First Chemo session was very depressing, but the doctors were excellent, and according to Dr Mohit, they played a vital role in the healing process of both himself and his mother. Dr Mohits mother is a very cheerful lady. After six chemotherapy sessions, Surgery was performed, and then another two chemo cycles were performed. Finally, when they thought she was Cancer free, Cancer knocked on the door again in March 2021. Again six chemo cycles were delivered. She is still a Cancer fighter. Dr Mohit says it is essential to stay positive no matter what is thrown at you. Think Positive, stay positive.

Amanda Bishop was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2020. She felt a bit of abdominal pain and tightness under her abdomen. She went to her general physician, who suggested she do CT scans. Things are getting closer and closer to a (semi kind of) normal life, here in America -- and Western countries. Still pray for India and other places hit hard with covid19! ***I spoke briefly about the Gaza - Israel conflict and called Gaza a country when I know it's in Palenstine. Sorry about that.*** Liz Cheney...wow! The gloves are coming off now! Oh, Caitlyn Jenner is running for Governor of California...on the Republican ticket. What the what????? Matt Gaetz and Majorie Taylor Green on the road together. Oh, ok! Not that I'm a fan of good ole I'm really betting she could benefit from a therapist MTG, but REALLY teaming up with Matt Gaetz? A little about vaccinations and still masking up. Ummmkayyy. :-) Oh, part two of this episode --- I just forgot to mention two important things: 1. World Ovarian Cancer Day was May 8th --- did you know that day even existed? I'd not be surprised if you did to be honest. But now you do. So, get ready for next year -- or for September as it's Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. ;-) 2. Mother's day was hard. First one without my mom. :-( --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ttwh71/support

For some, a cross-country trip consists of many stops to marvel at the breathtaking views found at any of the many national monuments found along the way. For one patient with ovarian cancer, however, a cross-country trip that began in Oregon and ended in Maine meant so much more than just taking in the sights. In this week’s episode, we spoke with Donna Wiegle, a cervical cancer survivor who is currently living with ovarian cancer, who, last summer, trekked across the country on a teal and white Harley Davidson motorcycle to raise awareness about ovarian cancer. It took Wiegle almost two and a half years to receive her ovarian cancer diagnosis, and as she notes, the sooner the cancer is detected the better. As a result of her experience, she wanted to find a way to inform as many women as possible about the symptoms of ovarian cancer so others could be diagnosed sooner rather than later. By the end of her journey, Wiegle had rode more than 6,000 miles, handed out more than 700 pamphlets on the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and raised more than $55,000 for ovarian cancer charities.

What do you know about ovarian cancer? Do you know the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer? Do you think a pap smear detects ovarian cancer? Simple questions but, how many women would not know the correct answers to these questions? I was one of those women and I am sure I am not alone! Having a greater awareness of this type of gynaecological cancer can really help women around the world feel more comfortable to reach out and speak with their doctor. In Australian February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and later in the year on May 8th we not only acknowledge 'Mothers Day' but we also mark this day in our calendar as 'World Ovarian Cancer Day'. According to the World Cancer Research Fund, "ovarian cancer is the 18th most common cancer worldwide. There were nearly 300,000 new cases of ovarian cancer in 2018''. Sadly, in Australia approximately 1600 women will be diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer each year. And every day in Australia, four women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and three will die from the disease. Ovarian cancer generally describes a malignant tumour that starts in one or both ovaries. The signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer can be quite common signs and symptoms of other health conditions such as; excessive fatigue, persistant bloating and stomach pain. For this reason, it is paramount as women we become more aware of ovarian cancer to empower ourselves with knowledge and feel okay to start a discussion with our doctor about ovarian cancer if we are concerned. Increasing our knowledge and awareness of ovarian cancer at this stage is the best way currently we have to reduce our risk of suffering from this disease. To learn more about ovarian cancer I was honored to speak with a courageous woman called Kristin who is living with ovarian cancer which is currently in remission and Kristin continues to fight the statistics. Through her individual ovarian cancer journey we all can take away some key messages to increase our knowledge of this type of gynaecological cancer. In the interview we discuss the common signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, ways ovarian cancer is diagnosed, the BRCA gene link to ovarian cancer, treatment and current research being conducted in ovarian cancer. If you have a mum, sister, best-girlfriend, aunt or nan share Kristin's journey with them so together as women around the world we become more health empowered through increasing our awareness of ovarian cancer. A big thank you to Kristin Young for kindly sharing her story with us all and to Ovarian Cancer Australia for all the wonderful support they co-ordinate and provide to Australian women. www.ovariancancer.net.au Let's paint the world with Teal to increase Ovarian Cancer Awareness! Ovarian Cancer charities around the world do a great job lobbying for greater research and treatment of Ovarian Cancer and for this we are thankful!
