In podcast time, we've been knocking around the northeast of today's United States for just about two years, starting with the Popham colony episodes back in December 2021. The recent high water mark, as it were, is 1647 or so, with the recovery of Maryland by the Calverts after the plundering time. We are not entirely caught up to that date, however. We need to get back to see what happened to New Sweden since its first year in the late 1630s, and the New Haven colony, which extended its writ to New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, deserves a couple of episodes. In the 70+ timeline episodes since Martin Pring's expedition of 1603 and Champlain's St. Croix settlement in Maine, we've talked about English, Dutch, and French settlement and exploration in today's United States as local stories, but we have not looked at the big picture, or at least not very often. Even I'm getting confused! So in this episode we'll do our best to bring it all together, which ought to make the next few episodes a bit easier to follow. This is an encore episode - we're excited to re-share this gem (episode #200) with you again! We have Sajah Popham back on the podcast to talk to us about herbal alchemy & spagyrics! Sajah is author of Evolutionary Herbalism and the founder of the School of Evolutionary Herbalism, where he trains herbalists in a holistic system of plant medicine that encompasses clinical western herbalism, medical astrology, Ayurveda, and spagyric alchemy. In this episode, we go into what Alchemy is... Sajah breaks down the word, the historical lineage and how it's rooted in the transformational process of nature. He tells us how the alchemical tradition really looks at the wholeness of plants, people and the cosmos developing an herbal pharmacy focusing on this wholeness of the body, mind, spirit and soul. Then we go into spagyrics... what they are, how did Sajah first come to study them, and he breaks down the process and art of making spagyrics plus the three philosophical principles that are really the foundation of this tradition. We go into how to start helping people with herbal alchemy and spagyrics - we cover the top tools in Sajah's toolbox to assess people and their herbal needs to match with the most effective remedy and then Sajah walks us through a couple of case studies that are fascinating through the alchemical lens including the best remedies, how he came to them, and the astrological connections. There's so much more in this interview as we explore the various ways all of us can reconnect back with our own wholeness and our inner healers. ALCHEMICAL HERBALISM X FEED YOUR WILD AKASHIC BONUS! The Plymouth Company was chartered by King James in 1606 with responsibility for colonizing the northern east coast of America. The merchants agreed to finance the settlers' trip in return for repayment of their expenses plus interest out of the profits made. The Plymouth Company established the Popham Colony, in present-day Maine, the northern answer to the previously discussed Jamestown Colony, founded by the Virginia Company of London. The Popham Colony was named for its chief investor and Lord Chief Justice of England Sir John Popham who presided over the trials of Sir Walter Raleigh and the conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot, including Guy Fawkes. Welcome to LawTalk, a podcast series produced by the University of Minnesota Law School featuring events, webinars, and panel discussions about diverse topics at the intersection of law, policy, and education. This episode, Horizontal Federalism and Contemporary Constitutional Controversies examines the equal powers given to states through the US Constitution and what happens when a state enacts policy that has consequences beyond its borders. This entails understanding the legal boundaries of state-to-state borders and how they intersect with each other. Professor Allan Erbsen explores how the Supreme Court itself has struggled with establishing legal doctrine regarding how one state's laws may put restraints on neighboring states and the roots for this instability in modern doctrine are embedded in the US Constitution's design. This lecture is part of the Popham, Haik, Schnobrich/Lindquist and Vennum Professor of Law Appointment Lecture. A video replay of the entire event is available on the Minnesota Law YouTube channel. The Popham Colony is abandoned and now the Virginia Company of Plymouth is without a settlement to defend their claims. During this shadowy period of time the English still maintain a presence in Northern Virginia, as they call it, soon to be reimagined as New England by an unsuspecting character you may know from Jamestown fame. Unknowingly, the groundwork is laid by Sir Ferdinando Gorges for a a strange group of Separatists who recently returned from the Netherlands. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/osoa/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/osoa/support

The Popham Colony or Sagadahoc Colony, rather than a historical footnote, was the vanguard of a new colonization model for the English, the result of rights stripped from noble conspirators, and redistributed to new corporate entities. After years of sailors kidnapping natives off the coast of modern day Maine to train as interpreters, Sir Ferdinando Gorges and Sir John Popham return them hoping the fair treatment given to their captives, will foster good will with their native communities. The Popham Colony, undertaken by the Virginia Company of Plymouth, initially seems a more promising prospect, to the Jamestown Colony, undertaken by the Virginia Company of London. However, things change... When we started this pod back in 2020, the main aim was to chat nonsense about our favourite Rugby Club. As the years have gone on, we have managed to speak to Gloucester and England legends about their playing days; fans about their memories and plenty of frivolous and unimportant aspects of the game we all love. This special pod is different. Ed speaks to former Wales, Newport, Leeds, Llanelli and Brive player, Alix Popham who in late 2020 announced he was suffering from early onset dementia. A disease caused by the game he played professionally for 14 years. As more and more players have discovered they are in the same boat including several World Cup winners and former superstars, Ed and Alix are joined by Tom Morris, a core member of Progressive Rugby who are a non-profit lobby group aiming to secure a safer future for rugby players and ensure a healthier and sustainable game in general. A massive thanks to both Alix and Tom for their time. Today's podcast is with the Toronto Blue Jays Pitching and Development Coordinator Cory Popham. Cory has been with the Blue Jays since January 2019 in various capacities as a pitching coach. Previously he was the pitching coach at Post University from 2017–2019 as well as serving as a business analyst at Driveline Baseball in 2016.I have known Cory for several years and I have to say he's always been at the cutting edge. My guest today, Sajah Popham, has so much wisdom to share about the benefits of wild lettuce for pain relief! Wild lettuce is one of those herbs that is both underrated and overrated. There's a lot to understand to be able to work effectively with herbs for pain relief and wild lettuce is no exception. By the end of this episode, you'll know: ► What kind of pain wild lettuce is particularly well-suited to help relieve ► What strength and dosage of wild lettuce is generally needed for pain relief ► Two different methods you can explore for creating a potent wild lettuce extract (or homemade tincture) You'll also receive instant FREE access to a recipe card for Wild Lettuce Tincture. Here is one of my favorite takeaways from our conversation: “I like wild lettuce for pain…specifically for musculoskeletal pain in the form of tension, constriction, spasm, and as an acute for trauma or…injury.” If you're not already familiar with him, Sajah Popham is the author of Evolutionary Herbalism and the founder of Natura Sophia Spagyrics and the School of Evolutionary Herbalism, where he trains herbalists in a holistic system of plant medicine that encompasses clinical Western herbalism, medical astrology, Ayurveda, and spagyric alchemy. Featuring the first appearance of writer, Trylon volunteer, Horrorthon body counter, and comms specialist Michael Popham (https://twitter.com/mpopham)! A direct sequel to the movie where Godzilla rips Mechagodzilla's head off, TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA is a movie (written by newcomer Yukiko Takayama!) where Godzilla rips Mechagodzilla's head off… and there's a dinosaur… being controlled by aliens… who've teamed up with a disgraced scientist… whose daughter is a cyborg… that controls another Mechagodzilla. It's a pretty stacked movie! It's also the lowest-grossing Godzilla ever and it marked the end of Godzilla's Shōwa era before a nine-year hiatus. Somewhere in that milieu, there's a strangely human, tender core to the story, anchored largely by Katsura Mafune (Tomoko Ai), the mad scientist's daughter-turned-cyborg whose position in the plot. We talk about her many motivations and how her character – dutiful to her father's cause, finding love in her enemies, possessed by her extraterrestrial overlords – reflects both the humanity in the movie's monsters and the monstrosities of its humans. Sajah Popham is a renowned herbalist, educator, and author committed to the balance of the science and spirituality of plant medicine. As the founder of the School of Evolutionary Herbalism, he trains herbalists in a holistic system of plant medicine that encompasses clinical Western herbalism, medical astrology, Ayurveda, and spagyric alchemy. Spagyric alchemy might not be something you are familiar with, and so we go to some depth exploring what this field of herbalism is and how it is applicable in modern practice. From his laboratory on a homestead in the foothills of Mt. Baker, Washington, Sajah and his wife Whitney combine philosophies of astrology, alchemy, spirituality, and modern science to create unique and powerful spagyric plant medicines. Sajah and I geek out on many things herbal and healing including the value of symptoms, the power of the patient in the healing process, astrology, archetypes, and vitalism. Sajah focuses on using plants to heal and rejuvenate the body, clarify the mind, open the heart, and support the development of the soul. His teachings embody a heartfelt respect, honor, and reverence for the vast intelligence of plants in a way that empowers us to look deeper into the nature of our medicines and ourselves. Equipped with a law degree, an internship from the BBC White City in TV script writing and film production, plus certification as an ESL teacher, and still only in her 20s, Zoe Popham headed for Thailand for adventure, and to teach English. Serendipitously, she knew an English guy working in Bangkok on a film and he invited her to work with him. The realization that there was international production work in Thailand, led to a job opportunity with an Indian-Thai production company that made TV commercials for India. Over the next 18 years, Zoe worked her way up in the industry, but after a nearly 2-decade career in Asian TV commercial, news and feature film production and post-production, in 2015 she relocated to Portugal in search of a more balanced and healthy lifestyle for herself, and her young son.

Dr Jacqueline Reiter discusses the subject of her second autobiography, Sir Home Riggs Popham, an extraordinary man whose ability to persuade the British government to go along with his ideas was only matched by his ability to make a botch of them. After spending our first 6 episodes bouncing around Europe, it is finally time to move the party across the Atlantic. This week we head into the first of several episodes looking at that first colony in Jamestown. We are going to spend this week with our focus on who the first settlers were, and why they decided to make Jamestown their new home. We are also going to take a fun little detour this week and check out the often totally forgotten Popham colony, which was founded just a few months after Jamestown. Join us on social media!
