Welcome to episode 190 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! We're headed to France this week to chat with Team Surprise Nu Swimrun, A.K.A., Benjamin Dupain and David Pesquet. They are one of the top French teams heading to Stockholm for the World Championship and we caught up with them to chat about their 5-year Swimrun partnership, how they are preparing for the big day, and the importance of experience. This was a fun conversation and we can't wait to share it with all of you. But first…Training UpdateOur last big week of training is in the books and we're almost at the “hay is in the barn” stage of our training for ÖTILLÖ. After a 5-hour Swimrun practice on Friday and a 3-hour trail run on Sunday, it's safe to say that we're looking forward to tapering soon.ShoutoutOur shoutout this week goes to Chip Warner. He's our newest Patron on Patreon and also happens to be racing ÖTILLÖ, in a few weeks! Thank you so much for the support and see you in a few weeks.Feats of EnduranceWe're giving another blanket award this week to all the teams that lined up for the second edition of the One Water Race. By the time this show airs, the winners (and finishing teams) will have touched the lighthouse door on Arholma. Amazing feats of endurance all around!Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff. This Week in SwimrunThere are some epic events happening that will cause all Swimrun eyes to turn towards Scandinavia for the next few weeks. Let's get right to it!The 8th edition of the legendary Rockman Swimrun took place over the weekend and it looked extra-epic from its usual level of epicness. Conditions were challenging with cold, rough swims, technical trails, and, of course, the 4,444 step climb to Pulpit Rock. The epic-ness continues this week with the 2nd edition of the One Water Race taking place. We'll have more coverage about this event in a few weeks with race director, and Swimrun OG, Thomas Ogander. Finally, there's a small race in Sweden taking place in a few weeks that you may have heard of called ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship. This will be the 17th edition of this race and the first under the watch of ÖTILLÖ's new race director, Staffan Björklund. Make sure to check out our interview with Staffan and learn about how super stoked he is to be a part of the rich history of this epic race.Team Surprise Nu SwimrunIt was great to catch up with Ben and David. We had met briefly after the World Championship last year (and learned that Ben was married to a Puerto Rican) and we kept track of their exploits on IG. They have a similar origin story to us so it was cool to chat about how they met, the benefits of racing with the same partner, and got all kinds of training and strategy tips from them for ÖTILLÖ. They are amazing athletes and great ambassadors for the sport.Enjoy!~~~That's it for this week's show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star rating and review since that's the best way for people to discover the show and the sport of Swimrun. Pulpit Rock (https://www.pulpitrockbrewing.net) co-head brewers Bob Slack and Justin Teff have built a reputation for creative “pastry” beers in both the stout and quick sour realms. In this episode, they discuss in depth their process for achieving great results with such adjunct-forward and barrel-aged beers, from managing increased viscosity and extended barrel-aging times, to their focus on ingredient freshness. The conversation covers: - removing roasted barley from the base recipe and replacing with other malls to build more chocolate character - triple mashing with a focus on first runnings - driving “plushness” through relatively low attenuation - toasting raw nuts and coconut immediately before maceration to improve flavor - matching tank size to the volume of adjuncts rather than the volume of beer, to maximize surface area and extraction - employing multiple rounds of maceration for certain ingredients - adjunct addition horror stories - using offbeat ingredients like granola and sheet cake and more. Picture yourself lying on the rocks. Ocean waves crash below. A cold wind blows. Relax and close your eyes. Let the sounds of the sea pull away your anxiety. Focus on the soothing sound of nature. Your heart rate slows. Everything is calm and serene. Why I made this podcast: I had started sleeping better. Maybe it was being home for the holidays. Who knows? But then this last week I've found myself up at 3:00 AM again. So last night, I tested out the Crashing Waves at Pulpit Rock with birds. (When I make these soundscapes I edit them with headphones on so I never know if they will work on a speaker or through a phone until I actually test them out.) I have to say the version with birds wasn't working for me. Here is a new version for sleep without birds, but with a harsher, more constant wind. As a work of art, the creation, symbolises MSC Foundation's dedication to protecting and promoting the natural environment of which we are a part and upon which we depend: our Blue Planet. The sculpture was designed by Monica Guggisberg and Philip Baldwin for MSC Seashore and is located in the MSC Foundation Centre, rising from deck 5 to deck 8, surrounded by a mirror wall that proliferates the light and colours emanating from it, lit by a spotlight located in its base. The design uses the magical, fluid medium of glass to express the fluidity of the seas and everything in them, animal, vegetable and mineral, coral, fish, seaweed and oxygen. The immense depth and expanse of the sea, covering 71% of our world's surface, is contained in the imagery of the sculpture, in its great height and the density of its contents, as if it were the sea itself in a soaring prism of charged and moving constituents. Partly an image of Earth's lungs, partly an image of Earth's nutrition and partly an image of simple beauty, it symbolises the sea's indispensable role in our and our planet's wellbeing. We are dependent upon it. It is not dependent upon us.Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines' new flagship Bolette makes inaugural sailing from SouthamptonFred. As a result of strong demand, Viking has also announced 2023 sailing dates for four existing Great Lakes expedition voyages: the 8-day Niagara & the Great Lakes, Great Lakes Explorer, and Undiscovered Great Lakes itineraries, as well as the 13-day Canadian Discovery itinerary.Three additional expedition voyages in North and South America will also debut in summer 2023. The ships will feature public spaces that are familiar to Viking's ocean voyage guests but that have been reimagined for expeditions, as well as new public spaces created specifically for expeditions. Straight bows, longer hulls and state-of-the-art fin stabilizers will allow the ships to glide over the waves for the calmest possible journey; ice-strengthened Polar Class hulls will provide the safest way to explore; and U-tank stabilizers will significantly decrease rolling by up to 50 percent when the ships are stationary. Viking's expedition ships will feature modern Scandinavian design with elegant touches, intimate spaces and attention to detail. And moreEthical Cruise T-Shirts Now available branded podcast t-shirts, cruise-tees and Christmas gifts or design your own in the studio.

On this week's pod, Eric and I welcome special Guest Grant Gillon on the show to talk about trading and selling beer. Feeding off of last week's discussion about beer hype and beer releases we make the transition into discussing beer value. Is beer worth waiting in line for? Is there a market for beers and what's the value? We talk about last week's beer releases in Des Moines and the upcoming releases at Pulpit Rock and Toppling Goliath and what those beers are worth. Also, we'll get a little into what black market values on beers can mean for a smaller, or newer brewery.
