In Episode 62, I dive into the emotional reality of infertility during UK Infertility Awareness Week. Join me as I share an impromptu recording on the beach of my personal feelings around my journey through both primary and secondary infertility spanning nine years, including my endometriosis diagnosis, fertility treatments, and the emotional toll this journey has taken. I also provide valuable guidance for friends and family members who want to support loved ones experiencing fertility challenges but may not know how to approach these sensitive conversations. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: My personal and raw story of nine years trying to conceive The emotional impact of both primary and secondary infertility The financial and relationship challenges that come with prolonged fertility struggles How ageism affects the fertility journey The importance of following your gut instinct when seeking treatment ACTIONABLE TIPS FOR SUPPORTING SOMEONE THROUGH INFERTILITY: Just listen without trying to "fix" their situation Avoid sharing success stories of people who got pregnant through various means Check in regularly, but respect boundaries if they need space Be mindful about sharing pregnancy news or complaining about your children Don't ask for updates about their fertility journey - let them share when ready Remember dates that might be difficult (due dates from losses, anniversary of failed treatments) Include them in activities even if other pregnant people or children will be there Avoid asking "Do you have children?" as a first question when meeting someone new Never respond with silence when someone shares their fertility struggles Don't use phrases like "just the one?" about family size Remember, if you're going through infertility, you are not alone. This episode serves as a reminder that while infertility may be common, the emotional journey is deeply personal, and support from understanding friends and family can make all the difference. In honour of Endometriosis Awareness Month (March) today's episode is a replay from Episode 6, where I talk about nutrition. This is a huge topic, but I wanted to introduce the general nutrition principles related to 1) improving your Endometriosis symptoms and 2) optimising your body so you are ready to get pregnant and then sustain a healthy pregnancy. There are a lot of similarities between these two objectives, but also there can be some conflicting ways of approaching nutrition, meaning that many women with Endometriosis can follow the ‘Endo-diet' to reduce inflammation but end up under-nourished or further under-nourished, which will not help you in getting pregnant. So, here are some of the things I talk about are: What is a ‘diet' and what is the ‘endo-diet'? What foods could actually be an issue and why? Six key principles I recommend to clients to follow PLUS, three things I always do when working with my Endo Fertility coaching clients Mentioned links Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity: piecing the puzzle together: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4406911/ Endo Fertility links and resources: Join my Endo Fertility community! My guest interview today is with Molly Nichols, a renowned fertility coach, healer, queen of guided visualisations and business mentor. Molly struggled to get pregnant for 7 years. In this interview she explains how a chance encounter changed her mindset, after which she became pregnant both through IVF and naturally, and is now mother to 4 beautiful, healthy children. She decided she needed to share her fertility work with the world and rightly so! I specifically wanted to talk to Molly about how she uses visualisations and journaling to connect with our inner selves, to help nurture ourselves, find out what blocks or worries we might have, as these can be more powerful than any physical imbalance we may have. I LOVED this interview, I always find speaking or listening to Molly is empowering and enlightening! Here are a couple of great quotes: “What is the conversation you have with yourself” “What do I actually feel around the experience I am going through right now” The topics discussed in this episode: Molly's fertility journey Perfectionism Worthiness of getting pregnant Visualisations to reduce pain, improve healing and get pregnant Doing versus being Is positivity and manifestations really that helpful? Mind-body connection Conceiving as an older woman Multidimensional healing (nutritional, mental, emotional and spiritual) Importance of mental and emotional healing and our resistance to this Journaling and fertility Empathy and safety Get full show notes, including Molly's free fertility affirmations at: https://www.endofertilityspecialist.com/endo-fertility-podcast/ If you want to hear the episodes first, make sure you hit SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss out on any future episodes. Plants have been used for thousands of years for their medicinal benefits and for many of us we are not aware of the benefits of some of the most common herbs. We can all make room for using herbs in our life, we just need to know how and what herbs are good for what. I bet you know quite a lot of what I share with you in this episode, but you just never thought to apply the knowledge, or you might not be aware of the fact that, for example, mint helps to cleanse your liver. Lara Thieme is my guest today, she is a postdoctoral researcher from Germany. We met doing Nicole Jardim’s Fix Your Period Apprenticeship a couple of years ago. Back then I didn’t quite get the link with the estrobolome, a "specific sub-microbiome in the gut and Endometrosis. For the first episode in Season 2, and as its Endometriosis Awareness Month, I wanted to talk to you all about how your fertility can be affected by Endometriosis. This is not to scare you, but to present you with what is known and understood, so that you can then understand why certain actions to improve your health and fertility are recommended. Medical knowledge of Endometriosis is still underway and continually evolving with new science – this is why in allopathic medicine there is no known cure. In functional medicine, there is an understanding of the systems that are affected by Endometriosis and this gives a roadmap of what steps and tools are needed for your body to heal and optimise your fertility. In this episode I talk about: Endometriosis statistics What Endometriosis is and does to your body Three direct ways your fertility is affected by Endo Five indirect ways fertility is affected The use of massage to improve blood flow, breakdown scar tissue and unblock fallopian tubes The importance of improving gut health and its impact on your fertility Why you should share your personal story with Endo with your family, friends and strangers As always there is lots more information about this episode on my website, i.e. what exactly was discussed, references, and the mentioned podcast episodes, blogs or resources: https://www.endofertilityspecialist.com/endo-fertility-podcast/ Make sure you hit SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss out on any future episodes – which will be out weekly on Wednesday morning! There is a lot you can tell from your symptoms, these will certainly give a picture of what is going on, but there are a variety of tests that a functional practitioner can use to understand where the imbalances are occurring in the body. In this episode I talk about five types of tests that are great for women with Endometriosis trying to get pregnant. These include blood tests, three types of microbiome tests, including the gastro-intestinal (GI) system, and urine and saliva tests for comprehensive hormone testing in the form of the DUTCH test. An amazing episode with Lorna Driver-Davies, Head of Nutrition from Wild Nutrition. This is the last interview of the season and boy is it good! We covered so much from nutrition, supplements and then a deep dive into the immune system for women with Endometriosis, and how this affects fertility. I came across Wild Nutrition about 3 years ago for my personal use and absolutely love so many of their products. I then met Lorna through my clinical work as I recommend many of Wild Nutrition products, in particular their Food-Grown Endo-Complex and Food-Grown Fertility. I found Lorna to be an amazing wealth of information on how to use their supplements to get their best effect and I just knew I had to have her on the podcast to pass on some of her nuggets! We talked about everything from: Lorna’s career as a Nutritional Therapist and Naturopath and working at Wild Nutrition Henrietta Norton’s supplement formulation using function nutrition and co-factoring Nutrient doses in Wild Nutrition’s Food-Grown supplements compared to synthetic supplements Difference between methylated and non-methylated forms of nutrients Iron supplementation and ferritin storage levels How Food-Grown supplements are made Why the Food-Grown Endo-Complex supplement is so amazing for women with Endometriosis Local and global estrogen production and estrogen detoxification The benefits of the Food-Grown Fertility supplement over synthetic fertility versions Key minerals and vitamins important for fertility Deep dive into Endometriosis and the immune system and its effect on fertility Oral microbiome and link to Endometriosis Estrogen, inflammation and cytokines Symptoms of immune dysfunction Post-surgery recovery and the importance of nutrient loading before conception How food and supplementation can improve immune function Thyroid health, endometriosis and fertility AND……how to get a discount on Endo-Complex from Wild Nutrition and Henrietta’s Endometriosis Book in the next few weeks after the publication of this podcast episode by emailing hello@wildnutrition.com There is much more information about Lorna and Wild Nutrition, where to connect with her and the resources discussed in this episode on the podcast webpage: https://endofertilityspecialist.com/endo-fertility-podcast/
This week’s episode follows on from Episode 17 on estrogen, in that I am covering progesterone. There is so much to know and share with you, from how our menstrual cycle works, how this influences our progesterone levels and what you need to monitor to understand if you have low progesterone There are several reasons why progesterone might be low and understanding these root causes makes it so much easier to resolve the issue than reaching for a sticky plaster that will not help in the long term. I also talk about how Endometriosis and PCOS affect progesterone specifically, and then ways you can increase your levels naturally at home. This week’s episode is all about estrogen, whilst next weeks it will be about progesterone. There is so much to say about estrogen in relation to Endometriosis and then how this affects your fertility, and so this is what I cover. It is an overview in many respects – hopefully not too technical and sciency, but importantly I talk about symptoms of high and low estrogen and then give you actions that you can take away and get on with to either decrease or increase your estrogen depending on what your needs are. This week’s episode is an interview with Ruby Ben from Ruby Ben Health in Texas, the USA. Ruby tells us about how she finally found out she had Endometriosis when she and her husband were trying to get pregnant. She explains how finally working out she needed to look at her body as a whole, listen to what it needed, feeding it foods that didn’t use lots of energy to digest them, so she had the energy to heal her body. She also shares her fertility journey, how she wants to get pregnant naturally and the steps she has taken. Ruby then shares how she wanted to then help other women in the same position about her self-healing journey she has learnt on her journey with other women. This week’s episode is all about Adenomyosis (Adeno), often called the sister to Endometriosis. I had a great interview with Sara Lopez, who has Adeno, and who is also an Adenomyosis Coach. According to one study, that Sara mentions in the interview, 91% of women with Endometriosis have Adenomyosis, they just may never know. In this episode we talk about the symptoms, differences from Endo, how to get it diagnosed, how you can manage it with a holistic approach, how it might fertility and more. Sara Lopez, M. Ed. is a Certified Hormone Specialist and Adenomyosis Coach. She works with women who struggle with adenomyosis or heavy periods to find healing and relief holistically. Sara has always cared about women’s health, and when she was a teen her mother suddenly had a hysterectomy - her recovery was long and painful to watch. She decided she wanted to help others find alternative ways to heal besides hysterectomy. She wanted to be that woman that says “of course you can find relief holistically”, so she became a women’s health coach. Now that I’ve seen so many women have huge health shifts with a holistic approach, I can say that it IS possible if you are ready! The things we discussed were: Sara’s journey with Adenomyosis What Adenomyosis is and the comparison to Endometriosis Symptoms of Adenomyosis Methods of diagnosis How to address low iron resulting from heavy periods How Adeno affects fertility Sara’s holistic approach to reducing her and her client’s symptoms including lymphatic drainage, castor oil packs, acupuncture, abdominal massage, nutrition, gut healing.
