A woman bleeding for 12 years touches Jesus and is healed—pretty straightforward, right? But why is it in 3 of the 4 gospels? What's its significance? Does Jesus wear magic clothing? This week James and I dive into a verse so short you might miss it and let it fall into the basket of Jesus' many miracles. However, under close inspection (literally translating and cross-referencing with Greek, Hebrew, the Old Testament, and the Torah), this verse allows the word to blossom. This woman is a faithful and heartbroken woman with a hard life. Her short story will be remembered forever for good reason. This week we examine Matthew 9:20–22, Mark 5:25–34, and Luke 8:43–48, with additional review of Numbers 15:37–39, Ruth 3:7-9, and 4:1. James E. Sedlacek received his BA from God's Bible School & College, his Masters from MDiv Cincinnati Christian University, and his PhD from Nazarene Theological College. Do the English Biblical translations convey the original meanings of the Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts from 2,000 years ago? How do the original verses differ from the ones we know today and extract meaning from? CONTEXT MATTERS, and, in this case, so does history. Not only do languages, but social norms of scribes' roles, environmental and social crises, and political interpretation all played a role in the texts distributed across the world. Now that I was able to sit down with Dr. James Sedlacek and discuss, it all makes sense. James E. In this episode, Dr. I. David Daniels speaks with a former litigator and firefighter, Shannon Sedlacek, about how her experience in two extremely high-pressure occupations has prepared her to assist and coach others in their efforts at high performance in high-pressure situations. While progress is being made, there are and will be for a while to come high-pressure environments that produce high levels of stress that need human beings to be successful. These humans need the tools to be able to withstand these high-pressure situations. So where can we go? Enter Shannon Sedlacek. She was a competitive athlete before finding the same kind of competitive energy when she became a corporate lawyer in a prestigious law firm. While the work was stimulating, she decided she wanted to be someone other than the person the profession would have required her to be. In her late 30s, she decided to become a firefighter. Despite several setbacks and challenges, she completed a career that included a promotion as the first female fire lieutenant in the history of the city she worked in, and she is now a corporate coach for organizations and individuals seeking high performance in situations where high stress is the norm.

Tomáš Sedláček – Economics of Good and Evil In Economics of Good and Evil, Sedlacek radically rethinks his field, challenging our assumptions about the world. Economics is touted as a science, a value-free mathematical inquiry, but Sedlacek sees it as a cultural phenomenon, a product of our civilization. To grasp the beliefs underlying economics, he breaks out of the field's confines and explores myths, religion, theology, philosophy, psychology, literature, and film, ranging from the epic of Gilgamesh and the Old Testament to Matrix and the consumerism of Fight Club. In his thrilling, postmodern style, he asks searching “meta-economic” questions about the very soul of economics. Deemed by experts as an impressive advance in “humanomics,” Sedlacek places the wisdom of philosophers and poets over strict mathematical models of human behavior. His groundbreaking work promises to change the very way we think of economics and the way we calculate economic value. The Economics of Good and Evil was first published in Czech original as Ekonomie dobra a zla in May 2009 and quickly became a national phenomenon. The book was the first non-fiction piece that has ever topped national annual list of best-selling titles. Since then, for the first time ever, the prize for the best economic book in Germany goes to a foreigner – Tomas Sedlacek, a young provocative thinker from Prague who became a global phenomenon by presenting a simple yet almost heretical proposition: economics is ultimately about good and evil. Sedlacek won the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair's award for his crossover book Economics of Good and Evil. The title was on Der Spiegel's bestseller list for weeks and became a hot topic in the German press and in the academic world. It topped the list of non-fiction titles in Switzerland and has been, or is being, translated to 14 languages. It was published in the United Kingdom by Oxford University Press (OUP). Taking an unconventional approach, Sedlacek tackles big economic questions from the perspective of arts, history and philosophy. Handelsblatt, the leading German business newspaper, listed the book among its top 50 most influential economic titles in history. The “Deutscher Wirtschaftsbuchpreis” is awarded by Handelsblatt, the Frankfurt Book Fair, and Goldman Sachs under the motto “Understanding the economy”. New perspectives, innovative presentation of issues, clear language and convincing arguments are the key criteria guiding the jury's decision. Placing the wisdom of philosophers and poets over strict mathematical models of human behaviour, Sedlacek's groundbreaking work promises to change the way we calculate economic value. Kids most of the time are messy, loud and obnoxious, but that's just who they are. We want to stay positive and be gentle, but our expectations on our children as well as on ourselves, becomes our biggest clash. How can we not let all of these triggers, hustles and bustles as well as our traumas interfere with our parenting? Tune in as Michelle and Klara Sedlacek, an emotional wellness coach, talk about how moms can lessen their expectations to have control on those triggers and pressures in life. This episode will help moms find their missing link - the self-acceptance. Moms, you can turn those tensions into connection - learn to dance with the mess and connect more to your kids!“We are so preoccupied like, How do we raise kind children? How do we make sure they are resilient? How do we make sure they succeed? But internally as moms, we carry so much harshness inside towards ourselves. We are trying to wiggle out through that, and show our kids how to be kind, but then we are creating this internal struggle.” - Klara SedlacekAbout the Guest:Klara Sedlacek is an emotional wellness coach and a key-note speaker. We all have certain childhood memories that stick. For parenting coach Klara Sedlacek, one defining moment was when she was 8 and a stranger found her crying with fear since she'd received a grade her mother was sure to rage over. The stranger walked her home and deescalated her mother, and likely planted the seeds of why this molecular biologist focuses her career on helping strengthen mother's bonds with their toddlers. You will learn:1. Our ancestral histories can have a direct link to our own stress levels.2. There are many interventions outside of traditional therapy that may assist in interrupting intergenerational negative patterns.3. Abstract: A subset of patients suffering from a familial retinitis pigmentosa (RP) carry mutations in several spliceosomal components including PRPF8 protein. Here, we established two novel alleles of murine Prpf8 that genocopy or mimic aberrant PRPF8 found in RP patients - the substitution p.Tyr2334Asn and an extended protein variant p.Glu2331ValfsX15. Homozygous mice expressing either of the aberrant Prpf8 variants developed within first 2 months progressive atrophy of the cerebellum due to extensive granule neuron loss. Comparison of transcriptome from pre-degenerative and degenerative tissues revealed a subset of circRNAs that were deregulated in all tissues and both Prpf8-RP mouse strains. To identify potential risk factors that sensitize cerebellum for Prpf8 mutations we monitored expression of several splicing proteins during first eight weeks. We observed downregulation of all selected splicing proteins in wild-type cerebellum, which coincided with neurodegeneration onset. The decrease in splicing protein expression was further pronounced in mouse strains expressing mutated Prpf8. Collectively, we propose a model where physiological reduction of spliceosomal components during postnatal tissue maturation sensitizes cells to expression of aberrant Prpf8 and the subsequent deregulation of circRNAs triggers neuron death.

In this episode of Short Takes we talk with Mike Sedlacek from the Madison (AL) Fire and Rescue Department about his presentation at the upcoming Vision 20/20 Project Model Performance in CRR Symposium on February 17-20. You can learn more and register at www.StrategicFire.org/Symposium6 In 2018 Madison Fire & Rescue created a Virtual Reality fire education program aimed at educating children about fire risks. We focused on 4th and 5th graders and created a multi-pronged approach program with two VR scenarios and a trailer with iPad kiosks. We partnered with multiple local companies and organizations in developing the program and developed technology solutions that did not exist. Our program includes detailed data reporting and we have seen positive trends in baseline data and knowledge trends.

"Growth is good. Like a sunny day. But having an economy that assumes all sunny days is a recipe for disaster." This is one of the central insights from this week's podcast, featuring our very special guest, Tomas Sedlacek. Strong Towns president Chuck Marohn has described Sedlacek, a celebrated Czech economist and the author of The Economics of Good and Evil, as one of the greatest influences on his thinking. In this week's episode of the Strong Towns podcast, Marohn and Sedlacek dive deep into our economic system, which venerates the "cruel deity" of "the god of growth." Growth capitalism, as Sedlacek describes it, esteems growth above all else — even over values like democracy, stability and neighborliness. In such a system, the previously unthinkable either subtly or suddenly becomes credible. We see the fruits of our economic system not just on our spreadsheets but in our built and social environments. In fact, says Sedlacek, our spreadsheets may be obstructing our view of the truth, which is that the economy, like almost everything in nature, goes in cycles. "I'm not against growth," he says. "I'm just against expecting that every year will be a growing year." Economics, he says, is too human to be studied as a hard science, like chemistry or physics. We should approach it like we would psychology, sociology and philosophy. Appropriately then, Chuck's conversation with Sedlacek ranges from discussions about the 2008 financial crisis and modern monetary theory, to a story from the Hebrew Bible, the etymology of the word "credit" (from the Latin credere, meaning "belief"), and Aristotle’s take on interest rates. Sedlacek also talks about what a society could look like it if it didn't have, at its center, unrealistic expectations of ceaseless growth.
David A. Sedlacek has taught social work, family ministry, and discipleship at both Oakwood University and in the Seminary at Andrews University, as well as serving in direct practice, administration, research, and ministry. Beverly Sedlacek has worked for over 40 years counseling hurting people in areas of addiction, abuse, relationship difficulties, emotional problems, and financial difficulties. David and Beverly co-direct Into HIS Rest Ministries, a Christian counseling ministry, and enjoy their five grown children.

Segelradio Nachrichten vom 06. Was für Themen finden in Segelradio Nachrichten statt? Juli 2019 sein Abenteuer Richtung Grönland starten will.

What have the Book of Genesis and the movie Fight Club got to do with GDP? According to the radical Czech economist, Tomas Sedlacek, quite a lot. He believes notions of sin and belief recorded in ancient texts should influence our thinking about the contemporary economy - and he describes the biblical story of the 7 fat cows and 7 lean cows as "the first macro-economic forecast". He argues passionately that we need to make the economy work for us, rather than us working for the state of the economy. And he condemns the way most nations have got themselves hooked on debt, in a never-ending cycle. Evan Davis interviewed Sedlacek,at University College London as part of the 100th anniversary celebrations for the School of Slavonic and East European Studies. Producer: Hugh Levinson.
