Hey friends! Welcome to Girls' Night! I'm so excited about today's episode. Today we're talking about how to find joy when you're feeling stressed and anxious. I don't think it's any secret that there's a lot happening in our world right now. There are heartbreaking things and scary things and heavy things happening in other people's lives and our own lives. And on top of that, there are pressures each of us face on a daily basis at work and at home. It's a lot to carry. And it really doesn't help when we are scrolling through social media and seeing hundreds of people who seem to be doing it better than us. So, where is the hope in this? How do we find peace and joy even when life seems a bit crazy? And is that even possible? Today's guest is going to help with this! Our guest for today's episode is Raquelle Stevens. Raquelle is an author, producer, and host based in Los Angeles, California. You might recognize her from starring in the Apple documentary called, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, and the HBO Max series Selena + Chef. This year she released a book called, The Sunshine Mind: 100 Days to Finding the Hope and Joy You Want. I love the word “sunshine” because that's what this conversation felt like to me. In this episode, we learn how to embrace our path and stop trying to measure up to everyone else, how to manage our stress and anxiety in practical ways, and how to experience just a little more joy in our lives, even when everything else feels crazy. Friends, I left this conversation feeling lighter and so encouraged and I hope you feel the same. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Continuing our Sundance coverage in episode 608 of the No Film School podcast, we sat down with editors and sound teams from films premiering at the festival. In addition to unpacking post production — the final and critical phase of filmmaking — we uncovered possibly the biggest work crushes in the film industry. In this conversation, you'll hear from: Emmy-winning editor, Taylor Mason - Editor for the psychological horror film Birth/Rebirth which premiered in the Midnight section on say one of Sundance. Mason's previous work includes the Netflix mini-series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Pose, as well as the variety show A Black Lady Sketch Show, for which Taylor and her team of editors became the first all-Black team to win a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Picture Editing. Jon Philpot - Editor for the mockumentary film Theater Camp. Jon previously worked on beloved comedy series like Hacks, Search Party, Broad City, and Awkwafina is Nora From Queens, and At Home With Amy Sedaris. Mike James Gallagher and Anthony Vanchure - Part of the sound team on Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman, the pair also recently worked on the biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, as well as Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me and their collaboration on the documentary Lucy and Desi earned the pair an Emmy nomination. In this episode, we discuss… Breaking story as an editor The emotions of door sounds Temp sound and editors hoping to impress the sound designers and vice-versa Figuring out the most interesting way to keep people engaged The great thing about low budget projects Balancing the tone of a more dramatic story with moments of levity The great combination of laughter and fear How sound design can affect people psychologically Why it's so fun for editors and sound designers to collaborate Memorable Quotes “Is this a scene? Is this supposed to be entertaining? What does this have to do with anything?” [16:14] “I wanna do a great job. I wanna do that on every project I work on. You don't just want to half ass it.” [21:38] “The idea of mixing comedy and horror together is phenomenal.” [31:00] “I love working with editors that take sound seriously.” [41:35] Mentioned: Taylor Mason Instagram Jon Philpot Instagram Mike James Gallagher Instagram, website and sound design deconstructions Anthony Vanchure Instagram Find No Film School everywhere: On the Web https://nofilmschool.com/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/nofilmschool Twitter https://twitter.com/nofilmschool YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/nofilmschool Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nofilmschool Get your questions answered on the podcast by emailing editor@nofilmschool.com! New York Magazine's Rachel Handler joins DJ Louie to discuss both Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, the recently-released doc about the pop star on Apple TV+, and the broader state of the pop star documentary. Rachel had the opportunity to sit down with Selena and director Alek Keshishian to talk about the film, so Louie and Rachel first get into what Selena was like as interview before diving into My Mind & Me, what it tells us about Selena, and how it fits into the broader of narrative of pop docs historically, beginning with Keshishian's seminal 1991 film Madonna: Truth or Dare. Rachel and Louie then attempt to contextualize My Mind & Me in a recent wave of pop docs that began with Justin Bieber's Never Say Never in 2011, and includes films like Katy Perry's Part of Me, Beyoncé's Life is But a Dream, Lady Gaga's Five Foot Two, Taylor Swift's Miss Americana, Demi Lovato's Dancing With The Devil, and more, parsing apart what binds them all together, what separates them from one another and whether they are effective, either as revelations or machiavellian PR moves. Hi! This week we start with some pop culture popcorn: Selena Gomez has released her new documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me on Apple TV. Jas shares her thoughts and recommends this review by Adrian Horton for The Guardian. Next, news came out that Rihanna has invited Johnny Depp to be a part of the new Savage X Fenty show. We ask why Rihanna would do this to the brand and what it says after the infamous Johnny Depp x Amber Hear trial.18-year-old Heartstopper actor, Kit Connor has been forced to come out as bisexual after so-called fans accused him of queerbating. We share our thoughts on this toxic fandom trend and writer Patrick Lenton reads from his piece “Whether it's Kit Connor or Harry Styles, forcing a celebrity to come out is not progress” for The Guardian. Drake and 21 Savage have released a joint album with one song gaslighting Megan Thee Stallion after being shot by Tory Lanez in 2020. We discuss Drake's 'feminist' lyrics while he simultaneously tears down a Black woman.Next, in an era of aesthetics and endless ‘core' subcultures, are trends dead? There have been talks on the Internet about not being able to pinpoint 2022's aesthetic and pointing to the rise of microtrends as a major reason why it feels like we're in a ‘trend-less' era. We have an open conversation on the media's part to play in this, our own opinions on the matter and hear from two authors. Beccy Hill reads out her piece, 'Good and bad taste no longer exists—here's why' for Stylist UK and Crystal Andrews reads from 'NPCs & Main Characters: We're Straight Up Dehumanising Ourselves Online Now' for her publication, Zee Feed. In recommendation land, Jas loved Enola Holmes 2 on Netflix while Maggie read Dolly Alderton's advice book, Dear Dolly, On Love, Life, And Friendship. See ya next week! xo Hosted on Acast. As broadcast November 7, 2022 because we just can't seem to get enough. Tonight we open with a dig at weak and befuddled Glasgow Rangers, but that's not the focus...although they are PATHETIC and generally terrible. We focus on the 2020 Rock Hall Inductees of which Depeche Mode was one in a very strong class. After that, it's all our favorite new tunes for the first half of the show finishing with a spotlight on Stella Donnelly playing in Seoul on December 6 at Rolling Hall. Part 3 as per usual we are Poppin' Off with the big new tunes over the weekend, with highlights from Selena Gomez, Masego, and BGYO, the latter of whom dropped a new album Friday! On the show today… The first trailer from Selena Gomez's new documentary, entitled Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, has been released today. Here's everything you need to know about the documentary and its release day. In sad (and somewhat strange) news, Paris Hilton's dog Diamond Baby has been missing for more than two weeks, but there's now been a new twist in the missing dog's case thanks to an Australian pet physic. So how legit is this? Allow us to investigate. And Madonna has caused some controversy thanks to a TikTok she posted where she seemingly came out as gay. It appears many people are not across her decades-long legacy with the LGBTQIA+ community, so we need to talk through her greatest hits. At the same time, Madonna is being policed for not acting her age on social media, and we have some strong thoughts about that. On the show today… The first look at Selena Gomez's new documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me is here and it shows a darker side to the actress's life and career. And it's time to cast your mind back to just a few months ago when photos from the set of Greta Gerwig's upcoming Barbie movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, dominated every corner of the internet. Now Margot has called the leaked photos one of the most embarrassing moments of her life and we have some follow-up questions. Plus, unfortunately, there's a new twist in the Adam Levine cheating scandal that we now have to rage about for just a moment. Adam has released a statement, his wife Behati Prinsloo has been put in an even more awkward position, another woman has come forward with allegations and all we can say is…the audacity of this man.
