Join us on Calibrate Conversations as we explore the profound cultural influences impacting gender dysphoria and the transgender movement, with a particular focus on the musician Cavetown, born Robin Skinner. We'll uncover how Cavetown's personal journey and the raw, emotional themes in her music resonate with many young people grappling with her own identities. We'll also address concerns about the potential for misinterpretation among teenagers who might mistake typical adolescent discomfort for a sign of being transgender, and we'll emphasize the importance of guidance and acceptance, rooted in Christian values, to navigate these complex issues.Listen in as we examine the evolving perspectives on transgender identity, especially for those who prefer to be recognized solely by their gender post-transition. This conversation highlights the mental health challenges faced by individuals and their families, scrutinizing the role of social media and influential figures like Cavetown. We'll share personal stories and ministry efforts that support parents of LGBTQ kids, critiquing societal pressures and questioning the narrative that transitioning is a cure-all for underlying mental health struggles. Through a compassionate lens, we reflect on the emotional and psychological battles accompanying gender transitions. Finally, we'll address the societal and political challenges surrounding transgender issues, emphasizing the need for a foundation built on truth and faith. By reflecting on the concept of deconstruction in the context of faith, we stress the importance of an unchanging identity rooted in Christ. As we confront the darkness in our world, we'll draw inspiration from the book of Jude, urging perseverance and the embodiment of hope. Together, let's navigate these pressing issues with love and steadfast faith, recognizing the impact of influential figures while discerning between those who intentionally mislead and those lost in their own struggles.Join us weekly as we strive help people embrace God's standard for sexuality! TIMESTAMPS:(00:19) Influence of Cavetown and Gender Dysphoria(14:09) Gender Transition and Mental Health(22:19) Struggles With Gender Dysphoria and Transition(27:52) Building a Foundation on Truth(35:46) Navigating Gender Issues and PerseveranceOther ways to listen:https://linktr.ee/calibrateconversations#LGBTQ #Transgender #Sexuality

This mixtape features the second single by Hudson Palace - The Who Cover ‘I'm A Boy' to be released this year. And the song, maybe one of the first in pop culture history to question gender roles, is captured here to psyche-folk perfection. It's not all covers, though; three are a few originals by Against Me!, Cavetown, Phranc, and others. From Tony, half of Hudson Palace - "I'm A Boy" was a particular fave of mine as a kid, back when I first fell in love with The Who and played the Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy compilation daily, which it closed out. (The photograph shows art of myself at around that age.) It has taken a lifetime of being involved in music, which has included writing extensively about The Who, to feel comfortable with covering Pete Townshend's songs; fortunately, forming Hudson Palace with Paula has allowed for a (semi)-acoustic approach to the loudest of rock bands, and this song have an additionally baroque element to it.Artists - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Raincoats, Hudson Palace, Cavetown, Mhaol, Yoko Ono, Le Tigre, Föllakzoid, Antony And The Johnsons, and loads more. We had the pleasure of interviewing grentperez over Zoom video!Multi-genre pop crooner grentperez releases his highly anticipated EP, When We Were Younger, via Fast Friends & AWAL. Driven by grentperez's nostalgia for his childhood, When We Were Younger blends the 21-year-old singer-songwriter's signature bossa nova with sonic staples of the 90s, transporting listeners back in time. With sparkles of the swelling strings of golden-era Hollywood, as well as clear influence from the scores of rom-coms, his production mirrors his lyrical longing for the past, but told through the lens of the seasoned storyteller and musician he is today, awakening long-dormant memories while simultaneously providing a soundtrack for new ones.As the E.P. begins, it's like when The Wizard Of Oz goes from black-and-white to color: the intuitive and unexpected sonic detours throughout When We Were Younger are what make grentperez's breezy pop songs feel full of life. Just take the leading single, “When The Day Is Done:” critics continue to compare their listening experience to sunshine and synesthesia, having called it a “kaleidoscopic assortment of sunny funk-fueled sounds,” (Ones To Watch), “a sun-soaked celebration of love” and an “intoxicating, irresistible smile-inducing soundtrack,” (Atwood Magazine). And his artistry extends beyond his musical gifts: grentperez has an eye for design. The 21-year-old sketched covers for the leading singles, “When The Day Is Done,” “Us Without Me,” and “Old With You,” and used his director's knack for world building in crafting the visualizers for “Old With You” and “Us Without Me.”Grentperez's tour of North America kicked off this week at New York City's iconic venue, Mercury Lounge, and future shows see him singing to sold out audiences across Los Angeles and San Francisco. Later this summer, grentperez will join Cavetown, mxmtoon & Ricky Montgomery on the Bittersweet Daze tour, and in the fall, the crooner will set off on his biggest tour to date, spanning 20+ days across North America and Europe. About grentperez:21-year-old Australian musician grentperez is unapologetically a Gen-Z artist with an old soul. Having first found his audience on YouTube strumming guitar, singing covers and original songs, he's blossomed into an unlikely star: an unassuming and unpretentious artist inspired by the music played at family karaoke parties, as well as vintage bossa nova and modern R&B. The young songwriter is a full-fledged artist, and he's got the following to prove it: With over 250 million listens on streaming platforms, a multi-continental touring resume, and notable support from tastemakers including Triple J, NPR Music, MTV, KCRW, DIY, Wonderland, and The Line of Best Fit, grentperez is on the precipice of something big.We want to hear from you! Marius adore écouter Love's In Need Of Love Today de Stevie Wonder. Lots more innovative, melodic, fascinating new music in this week's show! Our ALBUM OF THE WEEK is the amazing debut album of Gal Musette. She is a musical prodigy who began writing piano based lyrical compositions and performing at open mics in her home city of San Clemente, CA at the age of 10. 'Backwards Lullaby' explores the pangs of hopeless romances and unrequited love, what it's like to move beyond idealized love into the acceptance of what is real and constant, as well as the cyclical nature of life and love in relationships."baroque pop songs inspired by lost love, yearning & hopelessness""breathtakingly beautiful layered vocals ... heartfelt & vibrant mix of indie pop & folk laced confessions"In our LUVVA COVER feature, we will be playing a cover of a gorgeous song by Big Thief. The cover is by 'bedroom pop sensation' Cavetown."The tenderness in the cover is on display from the jump. The vocals are doubled to give a bit of an Elliott Smith feel here as things roll out with a beautiful tone. The song takes on a bit of a new life without steering from the original. The guitar and vocals together drive home the softness in the cover. There's a harmonic note deliver on the song that takes hold as the vocals are the driving factor. It's a simple cover but it works with earnest and sincere intentions." closedcapWe are also incredibly proud to be raising awareness of the #v4velindre fundraising project in aid of the NHS Velindre Cancer Centre. This is erosion Grinding up rocks with your molars A big fish swims past your rod You can't catch it, it's far too fast Deep hook marks in rubber lips I see your eyes in the flowers I'll pick a bunch for your room Green and blue to match your pictures You looked so good in green I hope you're well And you look so good with him And I'm proud of you still I miss your perfect teeth I was too blunt I hope you feel happy That's all I want Mess in the kitchen I was so disappointed I guess I got to my head And I was too young to understand it I get it now that it's too late I never stopped feeling guilty I'm over it, I promise that I just gotta sing it out of me You looked so good in green I hope you're well And you look so good with him And I'm proud of you still Take care of my shirt Warm and red I hope you think of me Still as your friend I hope you love yourself Your body and heart I hope you feel happy That's all I want --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/stevenapplegate/support

Chad's first experience with hazing was on his first night back at summer camp. Older boys grabbed him and his friends and told them to strip to their underwear. He tried to refuse but had to fight his way out of their grip, then left the cabin to the sound of the senior campers yelling, “Don't be like him!”Chad told a counsellor what had happened, but it wasn't easy. “You don't want to be a snitch,” he said on the podcast. “What's holding you back is fear.” The risk of angering older peers in the moment and being ostracized from the group afterwards makes boys hesitate to speak out, and then the pressure to fit into a narrative of dominance and invulnerability compels them to bury their feelings deep inside. If incidents of hazing could be said to have one thing in common, it's silence. More than half of all boys experience hazing before they leave high school, but according to research, 92% of students will not report any kind of hazing to an adult. To put it bluntly, boys aren't talking about hazing—at least not with experienced role models and mentors who could help them end ongoing cycles of violence. It's time we changed that.Continue reading on MediumFurther ReadingClementine Ford recently published Boys Will Be Boys and is a bit of a firebrand on Twitter or Instagram.
