Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” John 20:21–23Happy Pentecost! Today, throughout the world, our Church celebrates the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus' first followers and upon all of us. Why do we need the Holy Spirit in our lives? This is an important question to ponder. Today, as always, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit work as One God. It is the Father Who wills that we be reconciled to Him; it was the Son Who made this reconciliation possible; and it is the Holy Spirit Who now accomplishes the completion of this act in our lives. At the heart of that gift of salvation is the remission of our sins. The passage above clearly reveals to us that Jesus bestowed a unique gift of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, His first bishops, entrusting them with the ability to forgive sins in His name and by His power. As we celebrate Pentecost, it is a good opportunity to prayerfully consider the action of the Holy Spirit in your life. One of the greatest ways that the Holy Spirit is potentially active in your life is through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Through that Sacrament, the Holy Spirit draws you to the Father and enables you to see and understand His perfect will, living more fully in union with the Son as a member of His Body. The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit are some of the other ways that the Holy Spirit helps us in our Christian walk. However, these gifts would be ineffective in our lives if we did not first receive the gift of forgiveness given through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. That is the first and most foundational action of the Holy Spirit and opens the door to every other gift. Perhaps that is why Jesus' first bestowal of the Holy Spirit focused upon the power given to His Apostles to forgive sins in His name.Once we are reconciled to the Father and begin to live in a state of grace, the Holy Spirit will continue to deepen His relationship with us and bestow His help upon us for our Christian journey. This especially happens through the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The gifts most affecting our intellect are the Gifts of Wisdom, Understanding and Knowledge. Wisdom helps us to understand the inner life of the Trinity more clearly. Understanding helps us to make sense of our lives and mission in the light of the Gospel. Knowledge helps us make practical decisions in accord with God's will. The gifts of Fear of the Lord and Piety assist us in our love of God. Fear of the Lord helps us to see how our actions help or hinder our relationship with God, helping to motivate us to avoid all that harms this relationship and choose all that strengthens it. Piety helps us to see the great dignity and beauty of God and enables us to have a deep reverence for Him and for all of His people. Counsel and Fortitude are also given by the Holy Spirit and help us to firmly move forward in faith and love. Counsel especially helps us with love of neighbor, and Fortitude adds the strength we need to do all that we are called to do in love with unwavering commitment. As we celebrate the great Solemnity of Pentecost, reflect, today, upon the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. If you want to be open to the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your life and receive the many gifts you need for your journey of faith, then begin with the most fundamental gift. Begin with the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Ponder the words Jesus spoke in our Gospel today and know that by entrusting the grace to forgive sins in His name to His first priests, Jesus was also calling you to embrace that gift. The Holy Spirit wants you to be cleansed of all sin. Allow Him to do so and you will be amazed at all the grace that follows. My glorious Lord, You promised to send the Holy Spirit upon us to lead us into all Truth and to reconcile us to the Father. You were faithful to that promise at Pentecost and now continuously bestow the Holy Spirit upon all who believe. Holy Spirit, please come upon me, especially by forgiving my sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and by filling me with Your sevenfold Gifts. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. What sort of Son is Jesus-- Matthew 3-17-4-11 looks forward to the morning sermon on the coming Lord's Day. In these twelve verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that Jesus is the last Adam -the firstborn Son of a new humanity-, the firstborn who Israel was meant to be, and the eternally blessed and perfect Son Who has redeemed us to conform us to Himself.

This blessed Feast Day, one of the Twelve Major Feasts of the Church, is the celebration and remembrance of the falling asleep of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the translation of her soul into the bosom of her Son our Lord Jesus Christ, and her being granted her resurrected body. Our Lord gave us such a gift by what He has done for His Mother. As always, when we grow to understand truths about her we are growing to see clearly truths about ourselves. And all of it points to the glorification of Christ in our lives. This Feast Day answers the question regarding what happens to the Christian soul when it departs the body with a particular focus on the promise of the Resurrection. This is why this Feast Day is called the Summer Pascha. When we approach what Christ did for the Blessed Virgin at the Assumption, we see what our Lord Jesus Christ will do for all those who remain in her Son Who is the Resurrection and the Life.
Pastor walks his children through Westminster Shorter Catechism question 93-especially explaining how in Baptism and the Lord's Supper, the Son Who is over His own house in the New Covenant, acts upon His church on the earth. --Q93. What is a sacrament-- A sacrament is an holy ordinance instituted by Christ- wherein, by sensible signs, Christ, and the benefits of the new covenant, are represented, sealed, and applied to believers.
And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Acts 2:2–4And with that, the Church was born. Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost which, in many ways, was the culmination of the mission of Christ. The pinnacle of His mission will come at the end of time when He returns in all His glory to judge the living and the dead and to establish His permanent Kingdom. But for now, we live under the rule of the Holy Spirit Who has descended upon us in full form, transforming us and making it possible to prepare for Jesus' final and glorious coming. The Trinity is truly a Mystery of Faith. In our limited way, we understand that God is Three in One. He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each a distinct Person. Each fully sharing in the one divine nature. Though They act in perfect unison, They each fulfill Their unique mission. The Father is the one Who sent the Son into the world and willed that He give His life for the salvation of all. The Son was sent and perfectly fulfilled the will of the Father, uniting humanity with divinity. The Holy Spirit is the Promise of Father and Son Who proceeds from Them and descends upon us, animating us and making it possible for us to share in the life of the Most Holy Trinity. If that is hard to comprehend, it should be. Our limited intellects can only grasp a shadow of the reality of God. That fact, however, should not discourage us. On the contrary, it should inspire us to anticipate that day when we will see God face to face and enter more deeply into the mystery of His divine life. Today we especially focus upon the Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity: The Holy Spirit. It is an incredible gift we have been given to live in this age of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps you have thought to yourself that it would have been nice to live during the time that Jesus walked the earth. But Jesus Himself said that it was good that He go. Why? Because then He would send His Advocate, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, Who will lead you into all Truth. Thus, the age in which we now live, the age of the Holy Spirit, is the most blessed age the world has ever seen. This is because we are now able to receive the indwelling of the Most Holy Trinity by the power of the Holy Spirit. God is no longer spoken only through the prophets. He is no longer revealed only through the Person of the Son in Jesus Christ. He is now also able to live within us, making our very souls His dwelling place. Heaven and earth unite within our souls. There could be nothing greater than this.As the Holy Spirit descends upon you, He brings the presence of the Father and the Son. They are inseparable. Therefore, as we prayerfully look within ourselves, we discover the Voice of the Father, leading us into His holy will. We discover the Person of the Son to Whom we are called to be conformed in every way, living as members of His very body on earth. This is made possible because the Holy Spirit descends upon us in a way similar to the way the Holy Spirit overshadowed our Blessed Mother, conceiving within her the Son of God. As the Holy Spirit overshadows us, God is conceived within our souls, and we begin to share in the very life of God here and now. Reflect, today, upon these holy mysteries of our faith. See the actions of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as a true mystery. The only way we will be able to begin to probe these mysteries is through prayerful pondering. We must look for the workings of God within, see Him at work within our souls, savor His presence, rejoice in it and keep our eyes firmly fixed on Him. We must see the fruit of God's presence in our lives, such as the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Below is a full list of these Gifts. Ponder them today. As you do, and as you see these Gifts within you, you will be seeing God Himself, the Holy Spirit, alive and living within the depths of your soul. Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I worship You and adore You with all my Heart. Thank You, Father, for sending Your Son into the world. Thank You Father and Son for sending the Holy Spirit into my life. May I open my soul more fully to You today and every day so as to prepare for Your glorious return at the end of the ages. Jesus, I trust in You. Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2023 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.
The Way, the Truth and the Life | Martin Lifer John 14:1-14 and Acts 7:55-60 give us the Good News of how to live, pray, and go even through death fully trusting in Jesus as The Way, The Truth, and The Life Jesus is not as simply another rabbi or visionary pointing to God. Jesus is God's Son Who is One with the Father. In his death, resurrection & ascension, our Lord & Savior prepared a place for his believers to be with Him in his Father's House forever. Jesus is El-Emet (God, The Truth) of Psalm 31:5, so we can pray in His Name, ask anything in His Name, and commit our spirit to Him. In Acts 7:59-60, Stephen, the first Christian martyr, does so: committing his spirit to the ascended Lord and asking Him not to hold the acts of the persecutors (including Saul) against them. It has been translated into a number of English hymns (Come Holy Ghost, Creator Blest; Creator Spirit, by Whose Aid, to name a few). Today, we'll learn the original Gregorian Chant -- of course! And be sure to sing this one on Pentecost to get a Plenary Indulgence -- all the other usual requirements for the indulgence still apply. Let's get some souls out of Purgatory this Pentecost!Come Creator Spirit, visit the souls of Thy people, fill with grace from on high the hearts which Thou hast created.Thou Who art called the Comforter, gift of the most high God, living fountain, fire, love and unction of souls.Sevenfold in Thy gifts, finger of the Father's right hand, Thou promised truly by the Father, giving speech to tongues.Inflame our senses with Thy light, pour Thy love into our hearts, strengthen our weak bodies with lasting power.Drive far away the enemy, grant peace at all times: so under Thy guidance may we avoid all evil.Grant us by Thee to know the Father and to know the Son, and Thee, Spirit of both, may we always believe. To God the Father be glory, to the Son Who rose from the dead and to the Comforter, for all ages. The Son Who was Sent_Pastor Jae Lee_Genesis 37:12-36
And the seed of the serpent, The child of murder most foul, prepared to speak his heart aloud - "I do not need to KNOW him! Whoever this mortal soul might be - I know I already hate him - With a perfect enmity." And we heed also the servant, The child of the Lord most true, spoke then also plainly, an opposing picture drew: "I also do not need to know him either - whoever this mortal soul might be - I know I already love him - who was made to the image of the Deity." And the foe stood glaring. The Saint; serene. A more perfect opposite only once to be seen. In that of our Jesus, gentle, Facing Satan's cruel eyes, The moment before our Lords cruel, sacrificial demise. But Lo then for the wicked! Who thought they'd killed the Son - Who upon His cross defeated sin - Each and every one.

Tuesday 25th May Watch and Pray 2 God is not a wicked Father that loves to see His children suffer without providing guidance, the challenge most time is that a number of us don't know how God communicates so we usually miss Him. As humans, we have several modes of communication we use in talking to one another, we have written, spoken, sign language, body language etc. Effective communication takes place when both parties understand the mode of communication being used. God also has different means of communication He uses and it is our responsibility to learn these various modes of communication. Let's consider a few ways that God uses to communicate with us. Hebrew 1:1-2 (NLT), Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. God speaks in different ways, but everything He says must be in conformity to the Son Who is the Word. Let's see how God communicated with people in the past as they watched out for what He was communicating. Habakkuk 2:1 (NKJV) I will stand my watch, And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected. Habakkuk didn't just hear what God was saying, he saw it. Acts 9:10 (NLT), Now there was a believer in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, calling, “Ananias!”, “Yes, Lord!” he replied. God spoke to Annas in vision. 1 Timothy 4:1, Now the Spirit speak expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Today, God speaks to us by the Holy Spirit living in us. Jeremiah 33:3, Call on me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you did not know. We can see some of the different ways God communes with us. Do not expect God to speak to you the same way all the time, we must be on the watch for the way He chooses to communicate with us per time and learn to understand Him better. It is also important to note that God will NEVER say anything that is not in agreement with His written Word. To watch effectively, we must be open to the different ways God communicates with us and we must master them so we don't miss out on the things God is communicating with us. God bless you. Enjoy your day.
Did Jesus come from God to usher in the kingdom- Pastor leads his family in tomorrow's -Hopewell -Home- passage. In these seventeen verses, we learn that the kingdom is an eternal kingdom that belongs to the next age, that the King is God the Son Who became man, and that His mission was to come to die for sinners.
Session Two of this series brings truths concerning the baptism of Jesus, which was a prototype of our baptism. Our initial baptism in water is one of identifying with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The baptism of Jesus was meant for as a placement or adoption as a full grown Son Who represents the Father well. We are invited to the same baptism! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matthew-hester/support

A Visit With Bill Bright During His Last Days (Part 1) - Bill BrightA Visit With Bill Bright During His Last Days (Part 2) - Bill BrightA Visit With Bill Bright During His Last Days (Part 3) - Bill BrightFamilyLife Today® Radio TranscriptReferences to conferences, resources, or other special promotions may be obsolete. Lessons LearnedDay 1 of 3 Guest: Bill Bright From the series: Reflections of Life: A Personal Visit With Bill Bright Bob: Throughout his life and his ministry, Dr. Bill Bright has had a single focus – The Great Commission – that Christ would send us into all the world to preach the Gospel to all men. Here is Dr. Bill Bright. Bill: The average Christian does not realize that his loved ones, neighbors, and friends, are going to hell. Now you say – would a loving God send people to hell? No – God has put a cross at the entrance of hell, and the only way anybody can go to hell is to reject God's love and God's forgiveness. Bob: This is FamilyLife Today for Wednesday, February 19th. Our host is the Executive Director of FamilyLife, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine. Today we talk with the man who has made The Great Commission his life's objective, Dr. Bill Bright. And welcome to FamilyLife Today, thanks for joining us on the Wednesday edition. It was not long ago that you and I had the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with a Christian leader and, frankly, two years ago if you had said we would have had that opportunity in the fall of 2002, I would have said it won't happen, because the Christian leader, in this particular case, Dr. Bill Bright – well, everyone thought that he would not live much longer. Dennis: Right, and there were a number of us who wrote Bill letters, tributes; we made phone calls. I still remember a great conversation I had with him that I thought would be my last, and he asked me to speak at an event, and I thought, "You rascal, you've done it again. You've gotten one more thing out of me. You're not even going to be here then," but Bill Bright is a great man. His life is not over. He is showing us how to finish strong, all the way to the end. He only has about 40 percent of his lung capacity due to the disease that he has, but he's writing books, he's doing interviews, he's taking a limited number of speaking engagements and, Bob, I came to you a few months ago, and I said, "It's time we went to Orlando and sat in Bill Bright's living room and talked with him again. He's now lived for a couple of years longer than either you or I thought he would. Let's go find out what he's learned." Bob: And that conversation that we had in his living room in Orlando was just a relaxed conversation where we peppered him on a variety of subjects, but it was so refreshing. Dennis: Yeah, and it was really a sweet time. For those who don't know who Bill Bright is, and there are some who perhaps don't – Bill is the founder and past president of Campus Crusade for Christ. He is the author of the "Four Spiritual Laws", which has – I suppose there are billions of "Four Spiritual Laws" that have been reproduced around the world – people sharing their faith. Bill has been used mightily by God to touch the world, to touch nations, but he also was used mightily in my own life and yours, too, Bob, and I think by the time our listeners listen to this interview, along with the next couple of days, Bill Bright will touch you deeply as well. Let's listen to Dr. Bill Bright. Bob: You've talked about being on your way to the grave. You know, there are some who are surprised that we're even having this conversation today, because there was a time just a few years ago I remember hearing you and Brant Gustafson together talking about being ready for heaven and, of course, Brant is there, you're here. How have you processed all of that over the last several years? Bill: Well, just before Easter a year ago, I came home from California to die. I said to Vonette that I was choking and fainting and all the first signs of what they told me what happened at Mayo's and the Jewish Institute in Denver and my local doctor –"What you have is horrible." He tried to get my attention, and when I received word I was dying, I said, "Praise the Lord," because, you know, you can't lose with a believer. It's win-win. If you die, you go to heaven; if you stay here, you keep on serving Him. So I had begun to praise the Lord. He thought I'd lost my sanity, and he said – then he really began to rebuke me – he said, "You have a horrible disease. You're going to die the most horrible kind of death" – he's a heart specialist and been my doctor for 30 years – and he felt he could tell me that. Most doctors wouldn't. And he said, "It's worse than cancer, it's worse than heart trouble, you're just going to choke to death." And so I was choking, and I came home to die. So when I got off the plane, a couple – Jack and Pearl Galpin [sp] had befriended this Russian doctor, and they insisted that she come and examine me. Now, here's a Ph.D, a research scientist, seven years in charge at Chernobyl, and she had no place to live except the home of the Galpins, who befriended her. So she came to live in our home, treated me three times a day, and by the end of the 30 days, I began to have new life, and I'm awed at how good I feel. Dennis: You know, there's a story I want to just tell real quickly, because I want our listeners to know this – there's a real sense in which God used a Russian doctor in your life to keep you alive, and that really can be, I think, tied back to something you did years ago with your retirement savings. You actually – you and Vonette – actually gave away your retirement to start an outreach in Moscow when the Iron Curtain dropped. You gave away your retirement, and now here, at the end of your life, what does God use to bless you back, but a Russian whose country had benefited from your sacrificial act of giving, and I think, you know, that's the kind of thing that God in heaven, I think, must have a big grin about. He goes, "Bill Bright, you are a termite," you know, "Dennis Rainey, you are, too, but I'm going to show you what I want to do." Bill: Oh, He's awesome. Dennis: I'm going to use somebody from that country to bless you. Bill: You know, it's interesting – Vonette and I were led by the Lord to give my retirement pension to build a New Life Training Center at Moscow State University, and one day I'm sitting in the tent 15 years later, recuperating and enjoying the Lord as we're chatting together, and it is as though the Lord said to me in a way that – no question about it – "I sent Dr. Ivanova to help you because you made the widow's mite investment in Moscow State University." Now, I began to sob. I was overcome, because, frankly, there was no question what he was saying to me – that he was pleased by that. I didn't do it for credit, I didn't make a big issue of it, and I wouldn't have brought it up if you hadn't, but you cannot outgive God, and though, as a movement, we had spent tens of millions of dollars sending Jesus films and Bibles and holding teacher convocations all over Russia and the other republics, but the Lord didn't seem to refer to that. He referred to what I did first, and that was awesome. Dennis: You undoubtedly have envisioned where you're going. Bill: Oh, heaven is awesome. Dennis: To your best extent – obviously, you've never been there – but you've read about it, you know the One Who resides there, you've been walking with the One Who resides there – share what you expect? Bill: Eyes not seen, ears not heard what God has prepared for those who love Him. Heaven is going to be indescribably beautiful – it's not going to be, it is – and I remember as a lad, my precious, saintly mother would often say, "I can hardly wait to go to heaven." Now, she loved her husband, my father. She loved seven children. She was the pillar of the community. If anybody needed any help, they would always come to my mother. She was truly a saint. But I didn't understand what she was saying until I became a believer and now I look forward, with her, with great anticipation, to heaven. Everything we experience here on earth – all the most elegant and opulent kinds of experiences – cannot compare with what awaits those who believe. Here's my logic – the God who spoke – and astronomers say at least 100 billion, 200 billion galaxies were flowing into space, and He holds it all together with the word of His command. The same God became a man – the God-man, Jesus of Nazareth, died on the cross for our sins, was raised from the dead, and now lives within us, and He said, "I'm going to go to prepare a place for you, and then I'll come back and get you." Now, this God who created all this unbelievably beautiful, wonderful universe, you know is going to do a special creative job in preparing heaven. Heaven is going to be the golden, golden gem of the universe, and whatever our minds can conceive of will fall infinitely short of what heaven is like. Bob: Were you disappointed when you started getting better? Bill: Well, I must tell you, I was excited about going to heaven. You know, when you heard the interview with Brant Gustafson and myself, we were on a race. We both were looking forward to going, and we weren't sure – we were saying, "I'll beat you there." Dennis: Yeah, well, he beat you, didn't he? Bill: Yeah, he did – and dear, dear Brant – he was a marvelous, wonderful friend … Dennis: … yeah, I love him, too. Bill: A beloved brother – but here I am doing, in a sense, the most creative thing I've ever done. In the last 18 months I've put almost 100 hours of the best of my 100 books and booklets on blue screen technology – video – where I can use it for interactive training of millions of people through the years long after I'm with the Lord, and Andrew Murray has been dead 150 years, is still influencing millions of Christians. Oswald Chambers has been dead over 100 years, is still influencing even the President of the United States. So here we are, I'm building up a library of books and videos, and I've been able to do that more since I learned I'm dying than any other period in my life. And then God led a man by the name of James Davis and me to start, as a part of the Crusade ministry, Global Pastures Network, where our goal is to help start 5 million house churches in the next 10 years, and we're working with all major denominations. We're working with scores of para-church groups, and it's not just a Campus Crusade for Christ project, though it's directed by Crusade under the leadership of Dr. Steve Douglas, but it's a partnership where the leaders of Southern Baptists, Assemblies of God, Presbyterians, and Methodists and many other groups – over 70 denominations and scores of para-church groups are involved. So when I look back over what's happened in the last 18 months, I would have to say I'm glad the Lord let me stay here, and I don't want to stay one second longer than He wants me here. Dennis: You haven't retired? Bill: (laughs) No – I've re-fired. Dennis: You have re-fired. What are your dreams if the Lord gives you another 18 months? Bill: Well, I would just want to see everything I'm now doing increased, expanded, developed. But there's one very important thing that is really on my heart in addition to the others, and that is to call America back to the Bible and back to the God of the Bible. I mentioned that Brad, our son, has written this book, "God is the Issue." I've written a book on the attributes of God, " God Discovers Character," and "The Year of the Bible. So we're working on a strategy to take those three – "God is the Issue," "The Year of the Bible," and "God Discovers Character," and do an evangelistic thrust in every community of America, and I can't think of any better way to announce it than your radio program, because, you see, if we get back to the God of the Bible, revival comes. And, you know I've fasted and prayed 40 days each year for the last nine years for revival for America, the world, and The Great Commission to be fulfilled. So I am believing that God is going to raise up the kind of leaders that are necessary in every community of America to make this happen. Dennis: Bill, you described heaven as a place you long to go for. Your face lit up. I want you to do something you may have never been asked to do – how would you describe hell? Bill: Oh, oh, oh – I've just written a book, "Heaven or Hell: The Ultimate Choice," and hell is an awesome, horrible, indescribably cruel, terrible place, and the average Christian does not realize that his loved ones, neighbors, and friends, are going to hell, and because he doesn't realize there is a hell that is so horrible there are no human words to describe it – this agony for all eternity. Now you say "Would a loving God send people to hell?" No. God has put a cross at the entrance of hell, and the only way anybody can go to hell is to reject God's love and God's forgiveness. Christ died for all people – Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, everybody – and He's not willing that any should perish. Peter writes, "God has delayed His return in order that more people might have a chance to receive Christ." So God is not being unfair, but He is a just God, He's a holy God, a righteous God, and if we insist on violating His laws and disobeying Him, we are choosing to follow the kingdom of darkness – Satan – and I'm sobered by this. Hell is a terrible place. Heaven is an incredibly beautiful place, and as we read in Colossians 1:13 and 14, God has liberated us out of the darkness and gloom of Satan's kingdom and brought us into the kingdom of His dear Son Who bought our freedom with His blood and forgave us all our sins. To everyone who is listening to me, take serious what I'm saying and what Dennis and Bob are saying – there are only two kingdoms in this world – Christ's kingdom and Satan's kingdom – and you and your loved ones are a member of either one of those, and you can't be a member of them both, and if you are playing footsies with the ways of the world and being enamored with the things of the world, you are being deceived by the enemy of your soul. God prepared hell for Satan and his angels, not for you and me. But if we insist on following Satan, we will go to hell where he is. I just want to stand on the street corners and say, "Stop, stop, listen to me, you're on your way to heaven or hell, and there aren't any alternatives. You're a member of one of two kingdoms – there aren't any other kingdoms," and we need to proclaim that. Dennis: And to that person, Bill, right now, who is listening, who is going, "I don't want to go there. I don't want to go to a place of spiritual torment, of emotional grief and of judgment. I want out of that kingdom. I want to make sure I'm in God's kingdom – a place of peace, a place of beauty, a place of knowing God, seeing Him, and experiencing His love face-to-face." What should that person do right now? Bill: I'd like to ask everyone who has that desire to pray with me. I'd like to lead them in prayer. Dennis: That's good. Bill: Just, phrase-by-phrase, you quote after me. Now, Jesus promised us – before we pray – "If you hear My voice and open the door, I'll come in." If He is speaking to you through this program or any other program, don't you hesitate for a moment. You may never have another opportunity like this, because God's grace does not always continue. There's a time when He says, "I will withdraw My blessing from you." Now, I ask you, if you really want Jesus in your heart, pray this prayer with me, phrase-by-phrase. Pray it aloud if you're in a position where you can do so – if not, silently – "Lord Jesus, I know You're the Son of God, I know You died on the cross for my sins. Come into my life, forgive my sins, change my life, make me the kind of person You want me to be." God bless you. Don't miss out on His plan for you. He loves you. He died for you. He reaches out to embrace you. Now don't turn Him away. Follow Him to your last breath, and He will never fail you. God bless you. Bob: That, of course, is Dr. Bill Bright, who has shared those sentiments over the last 50 years over and over and over again – calling men and women to faith in Christ and then to service to their Master throughout their lifetime. Dennis: That's right, and I have to turn to the audience right now and say to that woman who is listening, that man – if you do not know where you will spend eternity after hearing an 81-year-old man who is nearing the end of his life, give you an eternal perspective that there are two kingdoms – the kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness, of the devil, wouldn't you like to be sure you are headed toward the kingdom of God? It's a gift. It's a gift that comes from God by His grace if we will yet receive it by faith in Him and His Word and basically Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. We must receive Him. We must trust Him. We must ask Him to be our Savior, our Master, our Lord, and I would just challenge you, right now – if you've not made that discovery, if you do not know the Creator of the Universe and are not walking with Him, there is no better time than right now. Put aside excuses, lay aside that obstacle, that burden, that person in the church that has kept you from receiving Christ and come right now. Just come to Him and kneel and ask Him – Lord Jesus be merciful to me, a sinner. Come into my life, forgive my sins, be my Master, my Lord, and begin to make me who You created me to be. Pray that prayer right now in faith, and I just want to remind you, it's not the words of your mouth, but it is the attitude of your heart of coming to God that I believe establishes a relationship with the Almighty God. Bob: If you want to know about that relationship with God and want to know what it means to be in a right relationship with God, call us and ask about a book we'd like to send you called "Right With God." It's a book that will explain to you how a man is made right with God and what it means to be a follower of Christ. Ask for a copy of that book. We'll send it at no cost to anyone who prayed along with Dennis, anyone who wants to give his life to Christ today. Call 1-800-FLTODAY and ask about the book, "Right With God." Let me also mention that we have our entire visit with Dr. Bill Bright available on audiocassette or CD. If you'd like to hear the entire conversation with Dr. Bright – we've had to edit it here for broadcast purposes – but you can hear the unedited dialog on cassette or on CD, and in our conversation with Dr. Bright, we had the opportunity to ask him about the books that he has written, and he said that his favorite of all of those books was a book called, "God: Discover His Character," a book about the attributes of our great God, and we have that book available as well. If you would like to deepen your understanding and your knowledge of who God is, and I'll tell you, all of us can benefit from that exercise, get a copy of Dr. Bright's book. Again, it's called "God: Discover His Character," and you can ask for a copy when you call 1-800-FLTODAY or you can request a copy online at FamilyLife.com. We always enjoy hearing from our listeners, Dennis. We just recently heard from a number of our Legacy Partners, many of them writing to request prayer on a variety of subjects, and we do pray for you when you contact us and let us know what your needs are, and we appreciate those of you who are able to help with our financial needs as a ministry, either as a Legacy Partner or as a FamilyLife Champion. Nativity Bible StudySession Two: Interpretation through hymnography Review: What is the Bible? What isn’t it? It is NOT the Logos! (St. John 1: 1-18) It is not a complete historical account (St. John 21:25) It is not self evident (Acts 8:26-35) Interpretation is of the Lord, through Christ (Genesis 40: 8; St. Luke 24: 13-32) Like the Ethiopian Eunuch, we need the Church to interpret the Scriptures for us. The services of the Church are celebratory and poetic interpretations of the events described in Scripture. Historical narratives speak to the head while musical poetry speaks to the heart. Let’s warm up with some of the hymns from the Matins (Vigil) service of the Nativity. From the Kathisma. The first is purely descriptive. Come, ye faithful, let us see * where Christ the Savior hath been born; * let us follow with the kings, * even the Magi from the East, * unto the place where the star doth direct their journey. * For there, the Angels’ hosts * sing praises ceaselessly; * shepherds in the field * offer a fitting song, * while saying, Glory in the highest * to Him this day born within the cave * from the pure Virgin and Theotokos * in Bethlehem of Judea. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. The second is descriptive, but is told from Mary’s view. Why, O Mary, marv’lest thou, * amazed at that which is in thee? * Because I have given birth * in time unto the timeless Son, * yet none hath taught me concerning my Child’s conception: * without a man am I, * how shall I bear a Son? * Who hath ever seen * a birth without man’s seed? * But, as is written, where God willeth, * the order of nature is overcome. * Lo, Christ is born now of the pure Virgin * in Bethlehem of Judea. Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. The third is a theological meditation on the unity of God and man in Christ Jesus. He Whom nothing can contain, * how is He held within a womb? * And while in His Father’s arms, * how in His Mother’s pure embrace? * Such is His will and good pleasure, and as He knoweth. * For being without flesh, * He took flesh willingly; * for us, He Who Is * became what He was not. * Without forsaking His own nature, * He hath partaken of what we are. * For Christ is born now, twofold in nature, * to fill Heaven with mankind. And another gem, from Ode 9: I behold a strange and wonderful mystery: the cave a heaven, the Virgin a cherubic throne, and the manger a noble place in which hath lain Christ the uncontained God. Let us, therefore, praise and magnify Him. The most concentrated alternation of scripture and hymnographic commentary occurs during the Royal Hours (and the Vesperal Liturgy). First Hour Psalms: Psalm 5 (a morning psalm in its usual place), Psalm 44 (Messianic Psalm about the wedding; Hebrews 1:8 confirms; also used in vesting prayers and Proskomedia), Psalm 45 (Be still and know; God is with us). Prokimen: Psalm 2: 7,8). The Lord said unto Me: Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten Thee. Ask of Me, and I shall give Thee the heathen for Thine inheritance. Readings: Micah 5:2–4 (Prophecy of Bethlehem), Hebrews:1:1-13 (St. Paul interprets the OT and explains the divinity of XC). St. Matthew 1:18-25 (Narrative: birth). A Hymn: Prepare, O Bethlehem, and let the manger make ready and the cave receive; for truth hath come, and shadow hath passed. And God hath appeared to mankind from the Virgin, taking our likeness and deifying our nature. Wherefore, Adam and Eve are made new, crying, Goodwill hath appeared on earth to save our race. Third Hour Psalms: Psalm 66 (a song of the Resurrection), Psalm 86 (A prophecy on the meaning of the Nativity and the uniting of the nations in the Church), Psalm 50 (usual Psalm). Prokimen: Isaiah 9:6. For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given and the government shall be upon His shoulder Readings: Baruch 3:35-4:4 (Wisdom appeared on earth and lived among mankind). Galatians 3:23-29 (we are one in Christ). St. Luke 2:1-20 (narrative: shepherds). A Hymn: Tell us, O Joseph, how it is that thou dost bring the Virgin whom thou didst receive from the holy places to Bethlehem great with child? And he replieth, saying, I have searched the Prophets, and it was revealed to me by the angel. Therefore, I am convinced that Mary shall give birth in an inexplicable manner to God, whom Magi from the east shall come to worship and to serve with precious gifts. Wherefore, O Thou who wast incarnate for our sakes, glory to Thee. Sixth Hour Psalms: Psalm 71 (prophesy of the Messiah; includes Magi/Kings), Psalm 131 (Messianic; also points to nations), Psalm 90 (usual Psalm). Prokimen: Psalm 109:4,1. From the womb before the morning star I bore Thee. Said the Lord to my Lord: Sit Thou on My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool. Readings. Isaiah 7:10-16; 8:1-4, 9-10 (Virgin birth; God is with us!). Hebrews 1:10-2:3 (Christ is greater than the angels). St. Matthew 2:1-12 (Narrative: wise men) A Hymn: Listen, O heaven, and give ear, O earth. Let the foundations shake, and let trembling fall on all below the earth; for God hath dwelt in a creation of flesh; and He Who made creation with a precious hand is seen in the womb of a created one. O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out. Ninth Hour Psalms: Psalm 109 (Messianic; see above), Psalm 110 (a hymn of joyous praise), Psalm 85 (usual Psalm) Prokimen: Psalm 86:4-5. And of the mother Zion, it shall be said, this and that man is born in her and the Highest Himself hath founded her. His foundations are in the holy mountains. Readings: Isaiah 9:6-7 (for unto us a child is born!), Hebrews 2:11-18 (Christ became a man), St. Matthew 2:13-23 (go to Egypt!) A Hymn. Verily, Herod was overtaken by astonishment when he saw the piety of the Magi. And having been overridden with wrath, he began to inquire of them about the time. He robbed the mothers of their children and ruthlessly reaped the tender bodies of the babes. And the breasts dried up, and the springs of milk failed. Great then was the calamity. Wherefore, being gathered, O believers, in true worship, let us adore the Nativity of Christ.
Salvete! Having done music at a Novus Ordo parish for 10 years I was always looking for a way to take older hymns and re-arrange them so that they were palatable by the modern day parishioner - I wanted to introduce the beauty of original hymns even though we didn't have an organ, I would find a way to adapt them. This particular arrangement has been sung by yours truly at countless Catholic retreats, NO Masses and when I led Worship at young adult Adoration nights. I plan on releasing more versions of this hymn but chose to save the organ for a more traditional arrangement. This is a favourite of my little ones at bed time - it has a lullaby feel to it. Easy to teach to your children and an uplifting melody to sing to our Lord when you are alone in Adoration or when you pass by a Church. Tantum ergo Sacramentum Veneremur cernui: Et antiquum documentum Novo cedat ritui: Praestet fides supplementum Sensuum defectui. Genitori, Genitoque Laus et jubilatio, Salus, honor, virtus quoque Sit et benedictio: Procedenti ab utroque Compar sit laudatio. Amen. Down in adoration falling, Lo! the sacred Host we hail, Lo! o'er ancient forms departing Newer rites of grace prevail; Faith for all defects supplying, Where the feeble senses fail. To the everlasting Father, And the Son Who reigns on high With the Holy Spirit proceeding Forth from each eternally, Be salvation, honor blessing, Might and endless majesty. Amen. It would mean a lot to me if you could leave a review on iTunes; The podcast has been downloaded over 30,000 times and we now have listeners in over 100 Countries. Follow me on twitter @dylandrego or on instagram @dylan.drego and do not hesitate to drop me a line. We are living in dark times (in and outside of the Church) which now more than ever requires you and me, ordinary men and women to fight with all our might for the salvation of souls and our own sanctity. Prayer is the foundation that grounds us as well as the wings that draw us close to God. It is the beginning. Pope St. Pius X's reach was limited by the technology of his day, but what about us? What if we could gather, inspire and call upon a 1,000,000 families to pray the rosary everyday? If you have any prayers you'd like to request, or comments and/or suggestions - please email me at dylandrego@me.com. Know that if you are listening to this, I am praying for you. Please continue to pray with me and for me and my family. May everything you do be Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam. God Love You! 23.12.18 Speaker: Ken Harding Duration: 34.37 Christmas Characters 3. The Prophets - Looking forward to Immanuel Key Verses: Genesis 3:12-15, Galatians 4:4-7 What and When Just like today, people at the first Christmas were not generally expecting their Messiah. Oh yes, there were a few (Like Simeon and Anna) but after 400 years of silence from the prophets most had lost sight of the promises and were not really anticipating their Messiah any time soon. How very like us today – we give lip-service to the teaching of the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus but live as if we don't expect Him any time soon. In his great work – the Believer's Bible Commentary – William MacDonald lists 45 passages of Scripture from the Old Testament which are clearly said to be fulfilled in the New Testament by our Lord Jesus. In a fuller treatment of the Old Testament Prophecies Rose Publishing lists 100 prophecies from over 120 scriptures which are fulfilled in the New Testament by Jesus. Last week Eric indicated that there may be as many as 300 prophecies fulfilled in the Lord Jesus. Today we want to consider some of these significant predictions which may easily be overlooked as we celebrate Christmas: 1. The Seed of the Woman - (Genesis 3:15, Galatians 4:4, Isaiah 7:14, Matt. 1:21, Luke 1:34-35) 2. The Son Who was Given - (Isa. 9:6-7, Isa 53:4-6, Luke 2:11, 2 Cor. 9:15) 3. The Sign of the Times - (Daniel 9:24-26) 4. The Saviour Who is God - (Genesis 22:8, John 1:29, Isa. 43:3, Isa.45:21, Matt. 1:21)

This has been done to Build suspense, please wait until Artie has begun speaking (around 18 seconds in) before adjusting your sound volume, Apologies if you only read this after. Don't look down, but look up at the SON Who is shining upon you! Turn your back to the darkness and FACE the SON, Who gives you LIFE and LIGHT. Turn your attention away from yourself to God to receive His help. PRESS into His PRESENCE with PRAISE, THANKSGIVING and WORSHIP.
