Sneaking in my June episode right under the wire! Welcome to Episode 108 of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour; this month I'm joined by my slightly sniffly but still very entertaining husband, Rich, as we discuss the CW's Stargirl, why the 2018 version of Little Women sucked, how I missed the point of 45 Years, and we forget Hector Hammond's name (again). There are also some pretty hefty spoilers for S2 of The Twilight Zone. Enjoy! Content warning: discussion of I May Destroy You between the 48 and 52 minute marks references sexual assault. Almost too much stuff, really, but not quite. We're ruminating on the CW DC universe and it's newest addition, Stargirl; Jenni has issues with ducks in shoes (or not in shoes, I'm not quite sure), Stacey saw a film she has very strong feelings about, and Lee is possibly sharing a bit too much... Oh, what's this little audio nugget in your Christmas stocking? Why, it's Episode 100 of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour! As is tradition at this time of year, I am joined by my splendid hubby Rich, our good buddy Phil and a metric sh*t-ton of mulled wine to give a wee round up of a few of our favourite things about 2019. Which of us dug His Dark Materials? Where does Marriage Story sit in our rankings? Will Rich ever stop writing 'Cop Car' in my notebook? Find out all of this, plus I sing an inappropriate song from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia completely out of context, Rich attempts mulled wine stealth, and Phil might be making up band names! Thank you so much for tuning in to The Parlour over the last 100 episodes; whilst my listenership is small, I am super thankful for each and very person that has ever listened to an episode (and I sincerely hope you enjoyed it!) I hope that, no matter how you're spending your festive period, you have an absolutely cracking time. See you in 2020! Welcome to a lovely jubbly bonus episode of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour! Parlour regular and tip-top gent Luke Foster joins me to obsess over Gravity Falls for a while. We talk about why we fell so completely in love with the show, share some of our favourite episodes and moments, and basically be massive, massive nerds about it. It's really good though guys. Like, really good! Sadly, it seems Bill Cipher was mucking with our recording, rendering a good 25 minutes of it completely unsalvagablely static-y. My apologies to Luke for losing some top notch chat, and to you lovely listeners for all the bits later in the episode where Luke and I reference stuff that got cut. Ruddy Bill. On this episode of Podcasting Smarter, I am joined by Stacey Taylor, a veteran podcaster from Birmingham, England who started podcasting back in 2007 when she worked at the world's most boring job. She is the host of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour and Podcast On A Half Shell where she talks nerdy about comics, films, TV shows, books, video games, and of course the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We have lots of fun nerding-out on podcasting.Ā  Stacey's Podcasting Smarter Tips: Don't be surprised when people care about what you have to say. When Stacey's first podcast came to an end, she thought that was the end of her podcasting until some listeners encouraged her to start another one. Podcasting helps you find other people who care about the same things you do. Podcasting has given her the confidence to reach out to her heroes and to really get to know them by inviting them on her podcast. Stacey enjoys a large social circle of people from all over the world that is a direct result of her podcast. Listen back to your episodes as a listener without worrying about the stresses of recording and editing. It's a great way to improve your podcasting skills. She prefers podcasts with more than one host, but only when they have a chemistry, and don't talk over top of each other. She wants to feel enthusiasm and passion from podcast hosts. Know your niche, and carve out your unique space within it. Stacy has grown her audience by being a guest on other podcasts and tapping into their listeners. Advice to new podcasters: Don't expect a bajillion downloads right away or you will set yourself up for failure. Pay attention to and serve your core audience. She empathises with her guest's need to feel comfortable. Days before recording, she asks if there is anything they need, or of they have any questions. She also makes sure to prep them thoroughly about the podcast topic and flow, so they can relax and have fun with her. Prep, prep and more prep for your interviews. Small audiences can reap massive rewards. A small, but enthusiastic audience can open doors, give you terrific engagement, and a very rewarding podcasting experience. Why hello there! The bunting has come down, the fancy china has been put back in it's swish display cabinet, and Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour is returning to normality after the extravanganza that was the live charity show! Well, you know, as 'normal' as it ever was..! Joining Stacey in The Parlour this month is the right flippin' brilliant Dani Abram! You may remember Dani from her wonderful bacon-saving appearance on SPCP Live: 2, in which she entirely forgot to talk about herself and talked about mental health instead (a very worthwhile and thoughtful conversation, it has to be said!) This time, Dani talks about her experiences as an animator and Stacey learns almost immediately that animation is not a job-land she could live in! After some incredibly interesting insight into the animation industry, Stacey and Dani go to Spoiler Town on Ghostbusters (bit late to that party, innit), Stacey expresses her disdain for Suicide Squad, Dani adds herself to the list of many, many people who tell Stacey she would love Bojack Horseman, and the pair discuss cocktails, Star Trek, shopping at Lush and loads more! It's an episode jam-packed with fun so it's recommended that you pair it with a scrummy jam doughnut, a whole mess of tea, and enjoy!
