Nashville-based singer and songwriter Jeffrey James returns with his new single, “Day by Day,” out now via Preach Records.Over the past few years, Jeffrey James has captivated the hearts of millions with his soulful and introspective sound and his rich, velvety vocals. For his new single, “Day by Day,” Jeffrey worked with John Davidson and Jacob Bryant, the lead singer and lead guitarist of the indie-rock band The Brummies. Merging Jeffrey's soulful pop stylings with John and Jacob's indie sensibilities, the trio created an irresistibly catchy, genre-blending anthem with "Day by Day."“The song is based on my own experience of growing and learning about life and love alongside my wife,” Jeffrey shares. “It hasn't always been perfect or easy, but there is nothing better than knowing you have a partner who is by your side and ready to take on whatever comes next.”Pairing catchy pop melodics and R&B influences with reflective lyricism, Jeffrey's songs explore the complex emotional layers of human experience with compassion and curiosity. Since making his debut in 2016, he has amassed millions of streams across his repertoire, received praise from tastemakers like Billboard and 1883 Magazine, and had his music featured in numerous TV shows and films. In Spring 2022, Jeffrey's collaboration with Grammy Award-winning DJ, Dave Audé, climbed to number 5 on the UK dance charts. Over the course of his singles, collaborations and EPs, Jeffrey has continued to explore his sound, emerging as an exciting force in the contemporary pop space.Follow Jeffrey James:Website / Spotify / Facebook / Instagram / Twitter / YouTubeSUPPORT THIS SHOWSUBSCRIBE TO YOUR LIFE THE MIXTAPE MAGAZINESUBSCRIBE TO DEAR DEAN MAGAZINE

I don't believe in any god. I don't think that's a particularly unusual point of view in 2022, at least in some parts of the world, but if I did there are certainly some moments that stick with me as things I'd have potentially given a deity credit for. I was once sat under a tree watching a game of amateur cricket. From the tree fell the largest pinecone I'd ever seen and to probably ever exist in the history of the world. The kind of pinecone that if it were to land on a head, would crush it like a hammer on a watermelon. This pinecone got so close to my head I heard it woosh past my ear. Death by pinecone avoided, but was it a god that saved me? I walk the same route every weekday as I take my son to school. Not too long ago, on a surprisingly warm morning in September, my brisk walk was brought to a sudden halt as a heavy droplets pummeled the pavement just a few feet in front of me. Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, they hit. I checked myself. I checked my son. No bird shit had hit us. We were safe. Was this a god? Years ago I was brushing my teeth. This wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but what happened mid-way through was quite unbelievable. Brushing away, like I always do, I got a bit carried away. The brush zooming in and out too fast to be able to fully control, it launched out of my grasp and into the air. Where was it to land? That's right... on my head! It just sat there, perfectly balanced. The work of a god? As I said, I don't believe in a god, but you must agree that these incredible moments really are hard to rationally explain. Anyway. Welcome to VG247's The Best Games Ever Podcast: Ep.22 - The best game about gods that isn't God of War. Please do let us know what you think of the show – and if this is your first time listening, do go back to listen to the previous episodes. If you've got suggestions for topics, we'd love to hear them. 22 episodes in and let's just say the ideas aren't coming thick and fast. Jim is soon likely to suggest something like, "Best game a cat would look at and do a meow" and I wouldn't immediately dismiss it. “What is VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast?” you ask while pondering if you could deliberately throw a toothbrush up and have it land on your head. Anyway, this podcast, which is why you're on this page, is essentially a 30-minute panel show where people (me and some others on VG247) decide on the best game in a specific category. That's it. It's good. Listen to it. We've got some details on the show's content below (if you want to get a refresher before heading to the comments to make a wonderful, considered post or don't want to listen but do want to know what games we picked), so if you want to avoid spoilers, don't scroll past this warning. W A R N I N G The best game about gods that isn't God of War This is the topic of Episode twenty-two of VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast. Here's a rundown of who picked what. Tom - Immortals Fenyx Rising Enough with the "oh, it's a Breath of the Wild clone" talk. Immortals Fenyx Rising is a great, fun adventure game that mixes elements of the open-world design of Breath of the Wild with God of War/action game-ish combat. It doesn't take itself too seriously, it looks great, has a load of interesting stuff to do, and deserves to be remembered more fondly than it is. It also features lots of gods. Alex – Black & White Right, listen. This is definitely Alex talking (Brummies!). Don't listen to anyone that tells you Black & White isn't a classic. It's a god game where the whole concept is about believing a god into existence. It's not watching some AI wander around a house and use a microwave. This absolutely deserves to win. Up the Birmingham FC! Kelsey - The Sims 4 The Sims 4 is a god game, despite what Tom may think. You, the player, are an omnipotent being who gets to determine whether your Sims live out happily ever after, or merely become a Peeping Tom. Better yet, if someone isn't co-operating, you can also find some creative ways of making your Sims miserable, or worse, in receipt of a visit from the Grim Reaper. December 29th-30th 1922: General Manager John Reith begins work! The good ship Broadcasting finally gets its captain. On Episode 35 of The British Broadcasting Century, we bring you the complete tale of not only Reith's first day - the liftsman, the lone office, the "Dr Livingstone, I presume" moment - but also his commute to work, from Scotland to London via Newcastle. Here he investigates/interviews/interrogates poor Tom Payne, director of Newcastle 5NO, a BBC station that's only five days old, temporarily running from the back of a lorry in a stable-yard. We'll hear from Reith, Payne (who claims to be the only person to bank-roll a British radio station), Birmingham director Percy Edgar, early BBC governor Mary Agnes Hamitlon. Plus we'll hear from Mark Carter of BBC Radio Sussex, BBC Radio Surrey, Susy Radio, Wey Valley Radio, across which he's been presenter, producer and now Executive Editor. There's also a treasure trove of radio memoribilia including 'the green book' of what you can and can't say on the radio - in 1948 - courtesy of the collection of former BBC Head of Heritage Justin Phillips. We're ever so grateful to his family for sharing that with us. SHOWNOTES: This episode leans on several books, the chief of which is probably Garry Alligan's 1938 book Sir John Reith, but also Asa Briggs' various books, Brian Hennessy's The Emergence of Broadcasting in Britain, and The Reith Diaries edited by Charles Stuart. The 6-week-old BBC now has 4 plucky stations! Yes, the Geordies have joined the Cockneys the Brummies and the Mancunians... Except 5NO Newcastle has had a few teething troubles. No one there's run a radio station before! So on Christmas Eve Eve 1922, their first is broadcast from the back of a lorry in a stableyard. But fear not, with Christmas behind us, Head Office are on the case! And the BBC's first and only General Manager John Reith is well-rested, he's even asked a friend what broadcasting is, and he reckons he's ok to take control. He's always liked fishing. That's what broadcasting is... isn't it? THIS TIME... Still puzzling out what his job is, John Reith begins work! We've got all the info on his legendary first day, his ‘Dr Livingstone I presume' moment... and his first task of running the Beeb: fixing Newcastle. He seeks to inform, educate and entertain, but first troubleshoot. Plus bang up to date, we'll hear from a man with radio in his very fibre... local radio executive editor and presenter, from BBC Radio Sussex and BBC Radio Surrey, and Susy Radio, and Wey Valley Radio... Mark Carter As we mark the start of the Reith era, buckle up, it's going to be a bumpy ride. Here on the BBCentury TITLES Hullo, hullo... We've seen a few eps ago, how Reith, and Burrows, and Anderson and Lewis were all hired as the first 4 founding fathers at the BBC. But they start work at New Year. Of course, we know that those of them who were broadcasters, Burrows and Lewis – they were already workig super-hard, planning and presenting almost 7 days a week, even through Christmas. But the start of the BBC's new era, with a head office at Magnet House, till Savoy Hill opened, all of this happens after Christmas 1922, going into New Year 1923. So this ep, I'll tell you about Reith's first day, Dec 29th. Next episode, we'll round off with a rather sweet New Year's Eve bit of programming. Then I think we'll have a bit of a recap and a breather, before starting 1923 proper, when the BBC exploded into life, with a booming staff, the first proper live concerts from the royal opera house, and so much more. What a tale! What an era! I wish I was there. I can't be, so next best thing, I'll spend a pandemic researching and recording this... The BBCe, now with the first day of work from John Reith! STING But before he starts in London, we're going super-geeky, super0detailed, and I'll actually tell you about Reith's JOURNEY to London. Because that's really notable too. Having been appointed, and spent a day or two with Burrows and co, scouting for offices, puzzling out what broadcasting is, Reith has spent Christmas in Scotland, staying with his mum... “I told her that I wanted her to live to see me a knight anyhow. I feel if this job succeeds and I am given grace to succeed in it, I might nt be so far off this. I do want a title for dear mother's sake, and Muriel's...” That from Reith's diary, Dec 28th 1922. So he's keen on this job, for the authoritative position it gives him, it seems, to begin with, at least. He's turned down good deputy jobs before this point. He wanted to lead something. Anything. Even a thing he doesn't understand. Here's a snapshot what Reith would have been completely unaware was on that Christmas, on each of the BBC's stations: We told you all about the London Christmas last time, but from Boxing Day, you'd hear more from the brand new 2LO Orchestra, and a triumphant Boxing Day Peter Pan, Uncle Jeff and Uncle Arthur holding the fort, rewarded with many gifts from the listeners. Demand for radio sets outstripped supply. The radio boom was booming. In Brum: Percy Edgar gives his Dickens, artistes don't turn up. Callout on air. Frederick Warrander turned up, with his pianist! Manc: Christmas stories for kids, then grownups, Handel's Messiah, ghost stories Newcastle: Hawaiian band Then there's 2MT Writtle, who've had the week off for Christmas – that's not a BBC station, but they've done the groundwork earlier in the year, and now Peter Eckersley is there pondering whether he should keep going, in this Marconi station out in Essex, now that proper broadcasting has begun – and the big boss is on his way to start work. So Friday 29th December, Reith says bye mum, I'll come back when I'm knighted, and leaves Dunardoch for London – raring to start work the next day, a Saturday, but he wanted to get in before his small staff turns up after the weekend. But, his Director of Progs Arthur Burrows, who knows more than almost anyone about how all this runs, he's asked his boss to make a stopover en route to Magnet House in London. Burrows wants Reith to get off the train at Newcastle, and check in on the baby station, 5NO. We talked about their launch last time – so at this point it's only 5 days old, and it's the first BBC station to be built from scratch. Burrows has his doubts about the Newcastle staff. New station director Payne is out on a limb, setting up this new station in the northeast – with the smallest, most abandoned staff.... Probably adding to Burrows' doubts were Tom Payne's announcing habits: he kept repeating the callsign over and over: ‘This is 5NO calling, this is 5NO calling, this is 5NO calling...” Payne was popular locally already in amateur radio circles – but would he have the chops to broadcast nationally, on radio? To fit in, with what Burrows had set in motion? Reith's a bit reluctant to break his journey in Newcastle. Doesn't quite see why. Doesn't quite know what a radio station is. But he's quite keen to see one in action – although Newcastle's version is a stableyard, so not really your typical radio station... ‘Newcastle at 12:30. Here I really began my BBC responsibility. Saw transmitting station and studio place and landlords. It was very interesting. Away at 4:28, London at 10:10, bed at 12:00. I am trying to keep in close touch with Christ in all I do and I pray he may keep close to me. I have a great work to do.' Reith is dumbfounded. He's got off the train, and found Tom Payne alternating between announcing what's on the radio, playing some live musical instruments, and trying to shut up a howling dog in a nearby kennel. So did he let Mr Payne off the hook? “As the temporary Station Director knew more than I did, as he had produced programmes of some kind or another for 5 days already... I rather naturally left him in possession for the time being.” As for the tech setup in Newcastle, that doesn't improve too quickly. Reith will be shocked in the New Year of '23 to discover their new control room is in fact a standard public phone box installed in the middle of the studio. Forget the engineer through the glass. This was an engineer in the glass, in a glass box, closed in from before the programme started till after it finished, no ventilation, no seat, no dignity. Come January, Reith would personally seek new premises for those provincial stations that were lacking. Eventually. For now though, on Dec 29th, Reith leaves Newcastle, after a stopover of less than 4hrs, and continues to London. So Reith has arrived in London, slept off his train journey, and awoken ready for his first day at the BBC. London at 10:10, bed at 12:00. I am trying to keep in close touch with Christ in all I do and I pray he may keep close to me. I have a great work to do.' At 9am that Saturday, Reith arrives at the GEC offices in Kingsway, London. “where I had been informed temporary accommodation had been at our disposal.” This is Magnet House., first offices of the BBC. He has doubts what he'll find, but is pleased to see a large notice in the foyer: “Brit Broad Company, 2nd floor” “This was rather reassuring. One was therefore not altogether unexpected and there really was such a thing as the BBC. Before I was permitted to enter the elevator, an enquiry was naturally made regarding my business. ‘BBC', I said deliberately. “Nobody there yet, sir,” he replied. So I told him that this was it, or part of it, one quarter approximately.” How delightfully drole, of both Reith and the liftsman. “A room about 30fr by 15, furnished with 3 long tables and some chairs. A door at one end invited examination: a tiny compartment 6ft sq, here a table and a chair, also a telephone. ‘This,' I thought, ‘is the general manager's office'. The door swung to behind me. I wedged it open; sat down, surveyed the emptiness of the outer office. Though various papers had accumulated in the past fortnight, I had read them all before. No point in pretending to be busy with no one to see.” It's an unusual start for Reith then, still a little clueless as to what's required of him. He needs his staff to arrive before he can quite figure out what to do, how to run this BBC. So he picks up the phone, a bit like Manuel when he briefly takes charge of Fawlty Towers. “Manuel Towers! How are you today!” Or Alan Partridge picking up the hotel phone to find he's reached reception. In Reith's case, he's delighted a female voice answers. Yes? “Having been unexpectedly answered, I trued hurriedly to think of a number which at 9:15am I might be properly expected to call up, on BBC business. Naturally without success. As there was no BBC business to anything with. So I enquired, somewhat fatuously, and with some embarrassment, if she had had any intrusctions about calls for the BBC or from them, and that if so, the BBC was there.” Now. Just. This receptionist would connect many calls to R over the coming months, and years, Miss Isobel Shields. Reith was a fan of Mr Gamage of the GEC. He was not a fan of Major Anderson, his new, brief secretary. 1/2hr later, Major Anderson, Sec, arrived 9:30am, “with some manifestation of authority”. Silk hat, two attache cases, legal-looking books under his arm. Reith described it as a bit “Livingstone and Stanley”, each presumed the other was the Secretary or General Manager. ‘I hadn't seen him before. It was an awful shock. I saw at once that he would never do... Conversation was not brisk...” Then Mr Gamage, Secretary of the GEC, lovely welcoming fella. For 10 weeks, Gamage sees to their every need, and refuses all offer of payment for the room, lunch, tea, phone calls. GEC's guest. That night Major Anderson the Sec goes home to type a letter, to invite Miss Isobel Shields to stop working for General Electric, be poached by the BBC, and become one of the first six staff members, and the first female employee. 0127 – The US Waitress Who Didn’t Understand My UK Accent VOICE BOXIt is well acknowledged that we often adapt our diction or pronunciation to fit in with those around us. If you’ve ever spent time in another country or another area of your own you may have started to speak in a similar way to those who were born and raised there. A friend of mine who moved to the north of England speaks with a southern accent until she talks about the bathroom, when ‘barth’ is replaced with ‘bath’ with a much shorter vowel. Most of us may change diction or pronunciation even just for a few minutes or hours, to fit in with a social group. The way you speak to a manager may differ from how you speak with your friends in a bar. And on other occasions you may have to put on a fake pronunciation to be understood. When in a restaurant in the U.S, a waitress asked me if I’d like a pre-meal drink. I asked for water in my ‘BBC-English’ accent. She didn’t understand and asked me again, and then a third time before I realised what the problem was. When I deliberately pronounced it “wah-ler”, she understood… Research commissioned by Santander in 2020 found that nearly half (46 per cent) of people questioned admitted they changed their voice to make themselves sound more well-spoken. 30 per cent of people changed their voice on the phone because they wanted to sound intelligent, and over a quarter (28 per cent) just wanted to make themselves sound posher. For just under one fifth (17 per cent) it does not seem to be much of a choice as their regional accent comes through more on the phone and over one in 10 admit their voice changes depending on who they are speaking to. Brits seem to be putting on their phone voice for anyone and everyone, including strangers (18 per cent), clients (16 per cent) and even work colleagues (12 per cent). Although over a fifth automatically do it if they answer a number they do not recognise. When it came to best celebrity voice, David Attenborough was voted the favourite, closely followed by Joanna Lumley and then Idris Elba. Scots are the people most likely to change their voice on the phone to others with 46 per cent of Aberdeen residents admitting to doing this, closely followed by Brummies (45 per cent). People in Sheffield seem happiest with their normal accent, as 60 per cent say they do not change the voice when they are on the phone. People in Norwich feel the pressure to sound intelligent the most, as 52 per cent of people here who change their voice admit that’s their intention, whereas the lovely people of Sheffield feel proudest of their roots as 21 per cent say they try to sound more local on the phone. The research also revealed that 46 per cent of people use their fingerprint to access banking and payment services, but less than one in ten (9 per cent) use Voice ID – despite your voice being as unique as your fingerprint. =Through these under-5-minute episodes, you can build your confidence and competence with advice on breathing and reading, inflection and projection, the roles played by better scripting and better sitting, mic techniques and voice care tips... with exercises and anecdotes from a career spent in TV and radio studios. And as themes develop over the weeks (that is, they are not random topics day-by-day), this is a free, course to help you GET A BETTER BROADCAST, PODCAST AND VIDEO VOICE.Look out for more details of the book during 2021.Contacts: https://linktr.ee/Peter_Stewart Peter has been around voice and audio all his working life and has trained hundreds of broadcasters in all styles of radio from pop music stations such as Capital FM and BBC Radio 1 to Heart FM, the classical music station BBC Radio 3 and regional BBC stations. It is not a suggestion that anyone should, or be pressured into needing to. We love accents and dialects, and are well aware that how we speak changes over time. The key is: is your voice successfully communicating your message, so it is being understood (and potentially being acted upon) by your target audience? This podcast is London-based and examples are spoken in the RP (Received Pronunciation) / standard-English / BBC English pronunciation, although invariably applicable to other languages, accents and dialects. The Brummies hail not from the English city of Birmingham but a town of the same name in Alabama. These southern origins may suggest that the trio play roots music -- as does the fact that Jacob Bryant and John Davidson, two of the key Brummies, earned success as country songwriters, penning the Band Perry's 2013 hit "Done" -- but the group's 2018 debut, Eternal Reach, is a lush pop record, steeped in classic rock, AOR, and yacht rock traditions in equal measure. Same Trailer Different ParkJacob Bryant and John Davidson first began their creative collaboration as songwriters. Their first notable success was "Done," a song the Band Perry took to number one on Billboard's Country Airplay chart in 2013. Shortly afterward, they began performing as a duo called John & Jacob, releasing an independent eponymous album in 2014 and placing the single "Be My Girl" on the Nashville TV series. John & Jacob's big breakthrough came when they landed an opening spot on Kacey Musgraves's Same Trailer Different Park tour in 2014. While on the road with Musgraves, the duo began collaborating with Trevor Davis. Once the Same Trailer tour wrapped in 2015, the band officially hired Davis and rechristened themselves the Brummies, taking their name from slang for natives of Birmingham, England. Signing with Sandbox, the music management team behind Musgraves and Little Big Town, the band began working on a debut, while also maintaining a steady touring schedule. Eternal Reach, which featured a cameo from Kacey Musgraves on the single "Drive Away," reached stores in April 2018. - allmusic.com

The Brummies made up of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists John Davidson and Jacob Bryant, and drummer Trevor Davis, have been playing together in various incarnations since high school in the Birmingham, Alabama area. John shares the journey from basement jams to publishing songs with Major Bob (Garth Brooks) early in their career. Writing for Major Bob, John and Jacob most notably penned "Done" that was recorded by The Band Perry which earned John and Jacob their first number one. After the success of a number one, what do you do next? The obvious isn't what's obvious. John shares reinventing their sound from a country genre that can be misleading for most, collabs with Kacey Musgraves, and releasing Automatic World at a time that a band wants you to share in their vibe. Fully recognizing though that the current vibe may not be the most opportune. American Songwriter Podcast Network
In this episode, we’re launching a new initiative, the ‘Brummies Jobs Exchange’ - our way of helping to link up people who are either seeking new employment if they’ve say been made redundant due to COVID19 etc - or indeed if you are a company who have roles available looking to be filled, we want to try and help you fill them. This isn’t a commercial venture, and we’re not acting as recruiters - we are simply helping provide a platform and an audience via our Brummies Networking LinkedIn Group, website and social media channels. (All links below). We encourage everyone to be on the lookout for these types of posts, and we’ll be encouraging every post we see to be posted also in our LinkedIn group so it acts as a hub, where you’ll hopefully be able to link yourselves up with each other, to help each other out as best we can. Create your job seeker/job available posts in the Brummies Networking LinkedIn group, by starting it with ‘CAREER’ at the start, to make it clear and obvious; and hopefully then you’ll get some interest and assistance from fellow members. Especially important during these trying times, with the impending Lockdown 2 now coming into effect. (Lockdown 2 was mentioned during the episode, & was only confirmed by Parliament post-recording) We also encourage you to submit your guest blogs to us which we can promote on the website. A further bit of self-promotion for you. And please do make use of our Speakpipe page where you can send us your business elevator pitches in audio form, which we can incorporate into future episodes. Max. 30s or so, keep it brief, to the point; who you are, what you do, how you can help, what sort of clients you’re looking for - you know the drill. And remember, we’re also running our weekly Twitter hour every Tuesday 11am-12 - just use the hashtag #brummiesbizhour to join in; and like the above, post your promos, what you do, how you can help, the types of clients you’re looking for etc. We’re all in this together folks, so let’s all do whatever we can to help each other out as best we can, especially during these precarious times we’re living in. We had the pleasure of interviewing The Brummies over Zoom! The Brummies is an independent band of three embodied by the vocalists and instrumentalists, John Davidson and Jacob Bryant, and Trevor Davis playing drums. The band was formed when they were in high school inspired by several iconic artists such as My Morning Jacket, Elton John, ELO, The Beatles, and Blitzen Trapper. These influences inspired their psych-rock vibe incorporated with the soft-indie folk genre. Their success was rooted when Jacob and John poured their heart into writing music. They collaborated with different artists such as Band Perry with their song Done. The song was number one on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart back in the year 2013. Before forming The Brummies, they were a performing duo called John & Jacob. In 2014, they even released an independent album in which one of the singles called Be My Girl was on a television series, Nashville. One of their biggest milestones as a performing duo was when they were given an opportunity to open for Kacey Musgraves’ tour, Trailer Different Park tour in 2014. They initially collaborated with Trevor Davis. After wrapping up the tour in 2015, Davis officially became part of the group and introduced themselves as The Brummies. https://open.spotify.com/artist/1B9SbgFtfWSlUvAd1y0AaAhttps://www.thebrummies.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZkmxICoApAzCIrazLxhIGwhttps://www.instagram.com/thebrummies/?hl=enWe want to hear from you! We're back from hiatus! In this episode we're going a bit self-reflective, talking about how Brummies Networking has recently turned 5yrs old! But as many will know, we've been going even longer than that, just under a different guise. We discuss how it all came about, the changes we've seen along the way, how networking attitudes have changed, how technologies have evolved for us to continue the networking far easier online, forging even closer relationships thanks to tools like LinkedIn; and how our group wouldn't be anything like it is now without our fantastic members. We even give a shoutout to some of our members personally, using them as amazing examples of brilliant & effective networking in action! We've witnessed the birth of the Birmingham Sales Squad and how they've utilised business networking to ensure that customer service is at the forefront of everything. It really is a fantastic example of how effective networking and creating a positive supportive community can really benefit everyone, especially in the service industries. Are you mentioned? You'll have to listen to find out! We also touch on some practicalities of networking and overall health. We're not trying to ring any alarm bells, but we do give a mention of Coronavirus and general illnesses that could affect how & when people should network, and if you're feeling ill (just generally), how it's better to NOT go networking. Why everybody should be paying attention to Birmingham? This week we are joined by Yiannis Maos, Co-Founder of Birmingham Tech Week. Both being Brummies we question why Birmingham isn’t on the map? It’s got the biggest population, most diverse, most startups, it doesn’t make sense. Birmingham Tech Week aims to break the perceptions and bring investment to the region … I LOVE IT!!! Yiannis is also the Co-Founder of Hyve. A brand advocacy software, after 10 years building his team at another company he decided to take the leap and create something new. Facing challenges all too familiar to most founders and entrepreneurs.

Ok......so it's not a new show but we'll be back next week....so stay tuned! Just to keep the vibe going I'm uploading a live show from one of my favorite bands of the 60's...The Move [I have many but Roy Wood and his band of Brummies won out this time]. I love the SHAZAM period of The Move and this live show encapsulates some of the songs from it while paying homage to Todd Rundgren's genius. The show opens with Rundgrens' early band The Nazz's "Open My Eyes"....what a great cut! Brilliant!....they slow it down with a heavy version of Brill Building Soundsmiths, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil's "Don't Make My Baby Blue". Some light humor with "Cherry Blossom Clinic" puts you on the analyst's couch for "The Last Thing On My Mind" which was written by folk staple Tom Paxton. "I Can Hear The Grass Grow" is one of the greatest singles ever....the only other version that comes close is The Blues Magoos version! Lightening the mood is a version of Ars Nova's "Fields of People"....a really good song no matter who does it. "Goin' Back" was written by Gerry Goffin & Carol King and The Move do it justice....I think the first version of this was done by Goldie & The Gingerbreads but that needs some fact checking for sure...and hey!.....Freddy Mercury recorded a version of this under the name of LARRY LUREX in 1973 with Roger Taylor & Brian May......back to SHAZAM with "Hello Suzie"....which is just about everyone's favorite...and they end the show with another NAZZ song "Under The Ice" from NAZZ II... Well I hope you forgive me for not laying down any vocal tracks and I hope you enjoy this live show!
Interview with Brummies manager Laurence Rogers and Tom Bacon after the Cradley Meeting
Well-known Birmingham historian and author Carl Chinn takes a walk in the Broad Street area of the city where the notorious back-to-back communities once stood. He describes how these impoverished communities lived on the edge of starvation in some of the poorest housing in Britain. Carl also discovers how faced with riots because of the price of bread some of the town's leaders including Matthew Boulton created a cooperative to provide cheap flour. He visits the new Union Mill in Grosvenor Street West off Sheepcote Street which was powered by a Boulton and Watt steam engine and stood in farmland which was swallowed up in the back-to-back houses and factories of 19th century Birmingham. Join Carl Chinn on his exploration of the hard lives of many Brummies.
Adrian Goldberg travels around Birmingham meeting with fellow Brummies, all of whom have a special vision for the future of Birmingham's landscape. He begins on a huge piece of blank wasteland in the very heart of the city centre which is waiting to become the home of the Birmingham terminal for HS2. He's joined by Waheed Nazir from Birmingham City Council to consider how the anticipation of HS2 is already changing Birmingham's skyline as well the city's sense of its own future. Adrian joins the Birmingham Trees for Life team in a park on the far Eastern rim of the city. The team have coordinated the planting of over 70,000 trees in Birmingham over the past 10 years with many groups of children and volunteers. His next stop is to Britain's first retrofit zero carbon house, just 2 miles out of the city centre in Balsall Heath. Architect John Christophers has a special interest in Sustainable Architecture, and his recently built family home is an inspiring vision of how existing housing stock could be transformed to become carbon neutral homes. When an architectural critic from The Times visited this house he said: "I have seen the future, and it's in Birmingham". Adrian's next visit is to the Apple Day at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This is the brain child of HR manager Antony Cobley who has led an initiative to plant orchards and gardens around the hospital grounds for patients and relatives to the hospital. Sutton Park is one of Europe's largest urban parks and is 9 miles to the north of the city centre. Here Adrian joins a group of Rangers and volunteers on a project to transform a dense wood of holly which hasn't been coppiced for over 200 years, to an open woodland of ancient oaks and newly planted rowan trees. Presented by Adrian Goldberg Produced by Rosie Boulton.
The fathers of every metal riff in existence, Black Sabbath gets the Album Club black candle seance this week, with their fifth album: 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath'. We talk about the making of this classic and the then escalating cocaine use, internal problems (please refer back to the cocaine bit) and riff-block leading up to it that almost killed the band. We talk about metal and how much these four Brummies influenced the future of the genre for better and for worse. We headbang to every track and then dizzily discuss them, while often playfully eviscerating Geezer's lyrics and trying to find secret Satanic messages through our cartoonish and frankly embarrassing grasp of numerology. This was a fun one, folks. Rock on! m/
