Michelle Fulton was born in Vancouver, Canada. She is a musician and author but most importantly, she is a mother to her daughter, Bella Soleil, her son, Turner, and her forever-baby boy, Cole Vaughn Taylor, who passed away just days before his due date in February 2020. The experience drove her to speak out to promote awareness about pregnancy loss, not only to help herself cope, but to aid those who have experienced such loss in the past as well as those who will in the future, and to highlight the need for deeper research into the subject in hopes it can reduce such tragic outcomes in the future. Michelle earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia. She co-authored The Inheritance: Poisoned Fruit of JFK's Assassination with her husband, Christopher, in 2018. She resides in California with Christopher, their children, and their rescue dogs and cat. Michelle is working to publish a book entitled “You're Not alone: Shared Stories of Pregnancy Loss”. She plans to donate 50% of profits to Star Legacy Foundation for research, and the rest to be split between the contributors. It will be available for sale on Amazon and www.cmfulton.com.

To begin an ambitious goal of weekly inspirational podcast, Jason Porter, the author of Real Good Deeds, chose Mark Comer as his first guest. Mark's story is amazing in that he never graduated college yet built a successful real estate training company in his early twenties. He then co-founded iMall, the first "internet mall", well before Amazon came on the scene. Mark sold iMall for over $500 Million and started a new life in a hard rock band in south America. Leaving that world behind he started into business again and today is the number one distributor in the world for Synergy Worldwide. Mark started 5 Star Legacy Foundation and provides clothing, school supplies and fees to hundreds of children in Southeast Asia, South America and the Caribbean. You'll be inspired by this episode as well as entertained as Jason and Mark have a long and fun history together.

In this episode, my friend Amanda shares her stillborn story with us about her beautiful daughter, Juniper Ann. Amanda's Birth Story: On Thursday, August 9, 2018 my husband and I went to our last MFM appointment in the cities for a growth ultrasound, before my scheduled induction that was just 4 days away. We heard the words at this appointment no pregnant woman ever wants to hear "I'm sorry there is no heartbeat." Our precious baby had died, in my womb. Absolutely numb, we left the clinic, stopped home, and then headed to the hospital. You still have to give birth when your baby dies. After being induced, 5 hours of labor, and then over 2 hours of pushing, we got to meet our gorgeous daughter Juniper, but the only cries we heard were our own. She was silent but absolutely perfect. Our families came to meet her, I am so glad everyone got to hold her. We spent the night with Juniper at the hospital, the nurses keeping a close eye on my blood pressure as I had preeclampsia (which is what caused Junie's IUGR and ultimately led to her death.) She was stillborn but she is still loved!    Resources: Resources: Instagram: instagram.com/orangeafmama   Star Legacy Foundation: https://starlegacyfoundation.org/ Stillbirth support & research organization. My guest is Dr. Ann O’Neill. Ann completed her Master’s degree in Environmental Science in 2006, and her PhD in Natural Resource Science & Management in 2015. Excitedly anticipating the arrival of their 4th son in July of 2018 and were shocked to learn Elijah, no longer had a heartbeat at 39 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy. Elijah was stillborn on his due date, July 2nd, 2018. They returned home from the hospital in desperate tears, bewildered, arms aching, and with a million questions. Three months after Elijah’s stillbirth, the autopsy report concluded that the cause of Elijah’s death was “unknown”.  Unhappy with the insufficient answers to basic questions provided by the autopsy, Ann listened to a podcast interview of Dr. Harvey Kliman, a placental pathologist at Yale University. On this episode, Ann discusses learning that Elijah’s death was due to an extremely small placenta that could not provide the oxygen he needed to survive past week 39 of pregnancy. While Ann’s original plan was to continue teaching environmental science classes to undergraduate students, Elijah’s death was a watershed moment in her life. Elijah's death opened Ann’s eyes to the many unacceptable gaps in the world of prenatal care, stillbirth research, and basic answers for families asking why their baby died. Today, Ann is passionate about encouraging prenatal care providers to measure a baby’s placenta volume in utero to detect babies at high risk of stillbirth, and to help loss families pursue and hopefully find answers to the cause of their baby’s death. Ann can be reached by email: ann.ebert.oneill@gmail.com To learn more about Estimated Placental Volume (EPV) to measure placenta volumes during pregnancy: https://medicine.yale.edu/obgyn/kliman/placenta/epv/ To learn about having your baby’s placenta tissue reviewed by Dr. Harvey Kliman to investigate why your baby was miscarried or stillborn: https://medicine.yale.edu/obgyn/kliman/placenta/pregnancyloss/ Star Legacy Foundation is in Minnesota and are dedicated to stillbirth research.
