Nerd Escape Issue #28 is another MiniMangaManiaMonday!!!! Jublar brings the classic legendary manga title 20th Century Boys to the table, created by one of the most influential manga creators Naoki Urasawa. Cami started reading a new very dark sci fi comedy manga by the wonderful manga writer and artist Q Hayashida. 20th century boys has a Stephen King "It" feel to it with the main characters reflecting on their childhood in order to stop a powerful cult from destroying the world just as they prophesied as kids. And Dai Dark is about a boy named Zaha Sanko who's body has great and terrible powers, and it is rumored that whoever possesses his bones will be granted any wish they desire. SO Sanko pretty much steals everyones bones before they can get his, but in a cute gruesome kind of way. :) NERD ESCAPE! Our hosts have loaded up their big rig full of trauma and are continuing the convoy of spooky this week as they smash through any objects on the road, living or dead (or even undead for that matter). What Andy thought was going to be a scary stop in Maine has turned into a depressing excursion as the boys dissect the 1989 horror classic Pet Sematary. This movie, adapted from the Stephen King (It, Misery, The Shining, and Salem's Lot) novel of the same name, is directed by Mary Lambert. Our hosts meet the Creed Family, who have just moved to small-town Maine. The father, Louis, played by Dale Midkiff (Love Potion Number 9 and Time Trax) has taken a job at the local college to be their doctor and has moved his family to the most unsafe house in Maine. The family meets their scary neighbor Judd, played by Fred Gwynne (The Munsters and  Car 54, Where Are You?) who immediately shows everyone the ancient burial ground that brings the dead back to life. It's a recipe for terror, but in their old age, our hosts are only met with sadness and sorrow as they witness the unspeakable grief the Creed family must endure. Don't worry listeners, there is still lots of fun to be had. So, make sure you buckle your seat belts and prepare yourself for an episode about crabs, beers, wet socks, and fencing on this episode.  --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

In 1982, filmmaker George A. Romero (Night Of The Living Dead) and author Stephen King (IT, Carrie, The Shining), the masters of terror and the macabre, gave us Creepshow, a horror anthology film inspired by the classic EC Comics of the 1950s and it was the most fun we ever had being scared. In 2019, under the guiding hand of executive producer Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead), Creepshow is back as a six week series streaming exclusively on Shudder.  This week's inaugural episode includes the stories “Gray Matter”, adapted from a 1973 King short story that is collected in the book Night Shift, and “The House Of The Head” from Birdbox author Josh Malerman. “Gray Matter” stars Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog, Escape From New York, Swamp Thing), Tobin Bell the Saw series), and Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian). The story was direceted by Greg Nicotero from a teleplay by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. “The Head Of The House” stars Cailey Fleming (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and was directed by John Harrison, the composer for the original 1982 film. The first episode of Shudder's Creepshow premiered on September 26th, 2019 and is available to watch with a subscription to Shudder.  Did our hard working crew at the Late Night Fright have fun being scared?

This film is based on the first novel written by acclaimed horror writer, Stephen King (IT, The Shining, 'Salem's Lot, Pet Sematary). Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill, The Untouchables, Phantom of the Paradise) was in the director’s chair for this production, leading a tremendous cast and meeting his future wife. The film stars Academy Award Winner, Sissy Spacek, as the titular Carrie. Her mother, Margaret White, is played by Academy Award Nominee, Piper Laurie. A young John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever, Face Off, Phenomenon) plays the cruel Billy Nolan, while his scheming girlfriend, Chris Hargensen, is played by Nancy Allen (Robocop 1-3). P.J. Soles (Stripes, The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween) plays one of Chris’ lackeys with possible the worse bangs ever to grace the silver screen. While undoubtedly less polarizing than The Shining, it does differ from the book, which we address. The essence remains the same across platforms (even the terrible musical): a bullied girl gets revenge using telekinesis.
