Welcome! Today we have a special guest, UNI Alumni and human extraordinaire Katie Grassi. August is a weird month. As an academic it has the melancholy feel of the end of the summer. But it is also a fresh start. My kiddo, Harper, is starting kindergarten and we get to create back-to-school traditions. What were your favorite back to school traditions growing up?Speaking of fresh starts, Katie might need a fresh start after this week's episode. The episode begins with her hometown date with Blake. He “takes” her to Canada where they go to a cabin, take shots of maple syrup, ride a moose, and play street hockey. Justin's hometown is next. It begins by us learning that his parents will not be coming because they do not support the show. Greg's hometown begins with a ride on a tandem bike. She talks about how much fun they have together. They play basketball and he talks about his dad. He makes it rain again. Then things go South. They are having a heartfelt conversation in which Greg expresses his love for Katie. She responds with, “you seem sad.” Things get tense. She tells him he needs to trust their relationship and not give up on them. He's like, I just expressed my love for you, you barely responded and now you think I'm giving up on you.So Greg goes to see her the next day. He tells Katie that he felt like he was really vulnerable but didn't get anything in return. She apologizes but her apologies are enough for greg. Then Greg pretty much gaslights her. Was this gaslighting? History- the movie with the lightbulbHe walks out. She cries and then follows him. He tells her he's not happy and is leaving. She says if he leaves, she is going too. He leaves. She cries in the bathroom. Kaitlyn talks to Katie and she says she wants to go home. Preview to next week: Katie seems to go home. But then maybe goes back. Katie any shout outs? Last words? Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! Start for FREEInstacart - Groceries delivered in as little as 1 hour. Comparing our Onions The guys were comparing onions and potatoes in this week's show, as Travis brought in three different types of onions. Red, yellow, and white, and they took a bite out of each! The red onion was the Red Creole onion that Hoss Tools carries, it was direct seeded into the ground, and it came up about a week before the other ones. The guys explained that they loved this type of onion on salads to give it some color. The next onion they compared was the Savannah Sweet onion, which is a yellow one and has more of a sugary taste compared to the other two. After looking at the onion, Greg and Travis agreed that they thought it was a semi-round. The last one they tried had the most bite to it and would have been a perfect pairing with a chili dog, and that was the white onion. Comparing our Potatoes After Greg's joke on Travis's potato growing abilities last week, Travis brought a bucket full of his potatoes in. They have been all about comparing their onions and potatoes. Travis's Yukon Gold potatoes were some of the biggest ones he has ever grown! Travis explained that he didn't put any fertilizer on his potatoes this year, but it was all about the cover crop cocktail he mixed up. The cocktail consisted of Hairy Vetch, Radishes, and Austrian Winter Peas, that mix fed his soil in just the right way to give him a bountiful harvest. Now that he has all these potatoes, they discussed how he was going to store them. If you go back to the video, you can see a shelf design Travis drew up that is perfect for storing and adding other layers too. You want to make sure that you are keeping your onions and potatoes in a cool, dark, and dry space as well as making sure they have plenty of room not to touch. If you have them too stacked on each other, that will cause them to rot. Show and Tell Segment If you are not a fan of good eating, you would not have enjoyed the first part of this week's show. Travis and Greg both brought in some great things to taste test, which even led to Travis being blindfolded and spoon-fed!! Greg made Travis try some of his pickled vegetables, including pickled squash. Greg also shouted out one of Mrs.Hoss's favorite Southern Living books and where she had gotten some of these recipes. The book was titled Little Jars Big Flavor. Pickling is a great resort to turn to when you have an abundance of harvest or want to save that taste for later. Travis also brought in some of his Max Pack variety of cucumbers and talked about how awesome they were doing and their excellent disease resistance. The guys also announced some new varieties were hitting the website, including Dewlectable Melons, Halo Canary Melons, and Alexandria Squash.  Viewer Questions Segment Here at Hoss Tools, we focus a lot on vegetables well our first viewer question was centered around our thoughts towards fruit trees. Travis and Greg listed the many fruit trees they both have at their homesteads, including a Granny Smith Apple tree, lime and lemon trees, a muscadine vine, and many fig trees. Greg then talked about his PlumCot tree, which is a cross between a plum and an apricot that was developed at the UGA research station. The next question we had a viewer ask about tips on Kohlrabi, Greg said that this was one of his favorite things to grow. He told her that it does not like the heat and does better in the cooler times of the year, he also said that Kohlrabi goes great in coleslaw as a substitute for cabbage. One of the last questions had to do with raised beds/container gardens and what mixture you would use in them. Travis urged not to use only compost because you need something just a little bit denser to hold the water, but instead to fill it about two-thirds of the way with topsoil, then top it off with compost. Then Greg reminded him that if you don't have access to good topsoil, you could even use peat moss. Product of the Week Japanese Hulless Popcorn

Then Greg and Belz run down the European-based player pool ahead of the regular season in the big leagues, and then we take a few Short Corners. 1:23 Richards interview starts. Since the audio is spotty during parts of the conversation, below are timestamps and transcriptions of key things he said that were difficult to hear in the recording. 1:50 Richards on how he found out he was headed to Bayern on loan: “Towards the end of our (U.S. Development Academy) playoffs in San Diego, I got a call from the technical director and he told me that Bayern wanted me to come on loan until December and initially I was like there’s no way this is real, but then I got all my final information and was told to take the next flight to Munich about a week after our last game in San Diego. As soon as I got here I was immediately thrown into first-team training, and one day one of the administrators came up to me and she told me I was going on the first-team preseason tour to the U.S.” 2:42 on whether he knew he was going to be training with the Bayern first team at all: “Oh no. They told me I was playing with the U19s so that’s all I thought I was going to do, just be with the U19s the whole semester...I was so surprised.” 7:12 on training with Alaba and Martinez: “They were so open to helping me with everything. That was really great for me the first few weeks I was here. They’re world class players of course, and it’s refreshing and it’s also amazing that they’re willing to help a young guy like me. It's been really good for me.” 7:38 difference between the Bayern academy and the academies he played for in the U.S.: “one of the big things that coaches here like is, when the centerback is on the ball to take space as fast as you can and then try to release the ball and keep going further down the field. In the academy back home it’s not really something that you’re taught, and when I got here...everyone’s doing it, youth all the way to the first team, and so that was one thing that they really pushed for me to get more comfortable doing.” 14:55 what Texans SC coach Eric Quill saw in Richards back in 2015 and 2016: “Of course he noticed my athleticism. I’ve always been one of the faster (players) and...I’d been able to get away with my athleticism for a while before learning the technical aspect as much...and he liked my vision on and off the ball...I knew where the ball was going, so I was anticipating really well, and when I was on the ball I was always one or two steps ahead of the defense.” 20:56 on whether Bayern will release him for U20 World Cup qualification in November: “I sure hope so. I’m not really sure what their plan is...but if I get the call-up for the qualifiers I’m going to push for that as hard as I can, because that’s a big box that I want to check off.” 24:55 Non-Bundesliga USMNT in Europe preview: Parks, Moore, Weah, Miazga, Yedlin, Robinson, Carter-Vickers, Saief, Palmer-Brown, Novakovich, Scott, Amon, Sabbi, Hamid, Gall, etc. 1:09:35 Short Corners: Busio's first MLS start, Reggie Cannon's ascendance, loans to buy, the USYNT hiring freeze. Number Five Is Alive! When Gyspy’s puppeteer, Tim Blaney, drops by the podcast, he brings with him a grab bag of famous marionette and character voice work. Ryan, Kate and Greg marvel as Tim recreates his roles as “Short Circuit’s” Johnny Five, “Men In Black’s” Frank the Pug and Space Worm, as well as NPC characters from Skyrim and beyond. Oh, and he talks in detail about his Season 11 puppeteering work with Mystery Science Theater’s favorite purple ‘bot! The gang discusses Hurricane Irma relief efforts and #MST3KCARES, and how MSTies can help their fellow humans in need. Meanwhile, Kate celebrates Justin Roiland’s “Terryfolds” and the band Chaos Chaos, as well as the science of storing flamingos in men’s restrooms. Then Greg feeds Ryan after midnight in a discussion of 1984’s “Gremlins,” a horror comedy very much in the MST3K wheelhouse. The gang praises the new movie adaptation of Stephen King's “It” and Bill Skarsgård’s terrifying turn as Pennywise the Clown. In the Mini Soda Review, everyone peels back the foil on Pellegrino Aranciata Orange, and then take a Very Adamant Stance against heading back To school. And Ron and James tackle “The Clonus Horror” in Reviewers In The MST. All this and a plucky, likeable immigrant mouse in a Don Bluth cartoon, who sadly can’t quite make it over a newly built border wall, thus crushing his hopes and dreams of America, on this week’s episode of the Revival League Podcast! Jeanette Thompson of the Oakland Raiders joins us for some food and did a video segment with Raider Greg and Kingsford Kirk. Jeanette hosts episodes of "Behind the Shield Online" for the Raiders on Raiders.com. She is a former Raiderette, and this year she became the director of the Raiderettes! She is a busy woman, and Raider Greg shows her our appreciation for all of her great work for the Raiders. Greg also chats with a Patriots fan who was at our party. Erin is obviously a devoted Patriots fan. One of our tailgate regulars, Juan Jorge, tried to stump her by asking her to name the Patriots offensive line from tackle to tackle. She proceeded to rattle off the names without hesitation as you'll see on the video. Then Greg finishes off by visiting with two listeners of our year-round audio podcast, "Raider Nation Podcast", Roy and Vanessa from Modesto. Roy asked everyone to vote for Raider Nation Podcast in the "People's Choice Podcast Awards." The ballot hasn't been announced yet.
