Hello beautiful ones!  I am so excited to bring you this month's episode of The Becoming Podcast with Mimi Young. Mimi Young is a Taiwanese Canadian animist spirit medium and the founder of Ceremonie, an esoteric brand focused on conversations around greater intuition and creativity, animism, and realigning with our deeper purpose. Mimi works at the intersection of animism and wu shamanism, practical magick, tea kinship, and other Chinese mystic practices to communicate with the Unseen, offering private readings, education and mentorship, and made-to-order skin and aura care. Mimi has held space globally in her Mystery Mentorship program and retreats, as well as collaboratively with brands including Goop, Almost 30, Spirit House Collective, and Tokyo Smoke. She currently holds an online coven space, Homing Coven, open to all who desire to walk closely with the Seen and Unseen.  Here's some of what Mimi and I talk about in this episode: > Failure as a confrontation with death that ultimately makes us more human and divine >  How to suspend your disbelief and follow your intuition in a hyper-rational world >  Animism and working with tea as an ally > How we clutch exogenous sources of intuition like tarot and astrology when we're traversing the unknown, and what to do instead >  How the wisdom of the 5 Chinese Elements can support us to thrive in liminal space >  How motherhood sparked Mimi's intuition – and how this plays out for so many mothers >  The link between creativity and intuition, and the animacy and mystery of Creative Force And so much more.  This was such a rich and wide-reaching conversation, and Mimi is so incredibly well-spoken and wise.  We had fun, too, and laughed a lot!  I hope you enjoy getting to know Mimi as much as I did in this episode.

The Craft with May Globus

Maddalen Pasini is a force. Her passion for her passions is infectious, transfixing when she's talking about the things she's bringing into the world. A long-time publicist, she began at Joe Fresh as an intern, then went to Toronto-based boutique agency Faulhaber Communications. Over the years, her clientele grew beyond fashion into design, hospitality, art & cannabis with Tokyo Smoke. Just before the pandemic in 2020, she and best friend Sam Brophy launched their psychedelic wellness movement brand Yawn. She grew up just outside of Toronto, the only child of hardworking, loving parents. Her father was in the police force for over 30 years and Staff Sergeant of Homicide for a decade. Her mother, an immigrant from Hungary, was in the dental industry. Hungarian was Maddalen's first language, something she learned young from spending time with her grandparents. Growing up was sticky, with her navigating bullying. As a teen, she took the train to the city and began going to metal shows, where she found her community. Her network began to grow through pockets of the underground music scene. She graduated from university with a double major in cultural studies & film—and she began questioning what she really wanted to do. The answer lay in her network, and she began a PR career. Transitioning into psychedelics was organic & something that had been brewing for a while—today, the brand donates a portion of profits to organizations conducting research & trials and offering support, such as the Heffter Institute & the @firesideproject, North America's first psychedelic peer support hotline. In this conversation, we dive deep into the importance of finding her metal community in her teens; how ‘outsiders' often become culture makers; the way psychedelics helped changed her over the last 15 years; why education around harm reduction and psychedelics is essential; current psilocybin regulations; equity in the space; and much more.      [TIMESTAMPS]6:02 - Growing up9:14 - High school and life after16:27 - When she got into psychedelics and her first experience18:49 - The transition from PR to Yawn21:38 - Yawn and the ‘psychedelic wellness movement'25:39 - Why harm reduction is essential29:52 - Regulations and setbacks in the industry 33:54 - Hero dose vs. microdose 43:15 - How Yawn began45:47 - Equity and what she wants to see change in this industry49:48 - Change our view on these medicines and avoiding exploitation of them53:03 - Major shifts in herself as a human 55:47 - Yawn x Secular Sabbath collaboration01:01:01 - Upcoming projects01:04:15 - Tips for microdosing 01:05:46 - What psilocybin has brought to her life 01:07:10 - What she loves most about herself and humanity01:09:30 - Final question01:10:18 - Where to find Yawn[Today's Sponsors]Before Company: https://beforecompany.com/discount/CRAFT10 - get 10% off your entire order; one-time use per customer; no expiry dateotō healing: https://www.instagram.com/otohealing/ - email otohealing at gmail.com to get 10% off your initial sound therapy session

As the founder of Tokyo Smoke, Lorne is not only the Godfather of Cannabis in Canada — according to Forbes — but the Godfather of design thinking. His belief that great brands are built from strong DNA not only defined the cannabis retail experience but has fueled his ability to build a strong culture, community and movement with everything he touches. His mission to make the world a better place through ground-breaking design began early as an architect, where he solved complex issues in creative and organized ways. He then applied those disciples to a range of lifestyle brands, including clothing, coffee, cannabis, and now, psychedelics. According to Lorne, products should be experiences people connect to on a deeper level. In this podcast, he reveals how he spots trends even before they happen, his relentless pursuit to change the world, and how he plans to reinvent the pharmaceutical business.

Exploring the challenges of cannabis delivery and pickup services. Pioneering rideshare and food delivery company Uber recently announced they would start taking cannabis orders in Canada through their UberEats service. There's one trick though - it's only for pick-up orders. Consumers would still need to go to one of the 50 Tokyo Smoke dispensaries in Ontario to actually get their order, and that may be a strategic error, depending on Uber's business goals for the initiative. Right now, it's a small experiment more than a major business move. As one of the early fleet and delivery management companies helping local and national businesses manage their delivery business, Onfleet sees a few unique things about the cannabis industry that may make this a bigger challenge than expected. Why is it that people in seemingly great places — good careers or relationships, leave to pursue ‘more'? In 2015, Alan Gertner was working his dream job at Google. Growing up, Alan was the type of kid who preferred computer camp to sports camp, and at only 30 years old was an executive at Google, living in Singapore. He'd dedicated his 20's to winning at work and realized he wanted the next chapter to be different – so he left. He went on to start a company in the cannabis industry, Tokyo Smoke, which he eventually sold to Canopy Growth Corporation for a reported $250M. But his systematic process to do the self-work required to figure out what to do next was key to his success. Alan shares that process, and more on the first episode of our new series Hustle & Grit.

Van der Pop started as a cannabis accessories company, with beautifully-designed accessories made specifically for women. Over time, founder April Pride saw a need for education with her customers and pivoted to women-focused cannabis education. As Van der pop grew, eventually being acquired by Tokyo Smoke, which was later acquired by Canopy Growth, April’s role changed quite a bit. We discuss how she grappled with handing over the reigns and embracing her new role. April’s new company, OF LIKE MINDS is a marketing platform for cannabis brands, and will be launching a podcast in Fall 2019 (link soon to follow). One thing I've learnt from all the women I've interviewed so far is that as women, we don't have to live a life that is prescribed to us by anyone- the society, our parents, or even ourselves. Today's guest Odessa Paloma Parker is definitely one of the women who has been fully embracing her weirdness and celebrating who she truly is. Being the Fashion Editor for The Globe and Mail, creator of the Vintage Crawl- an annual event participated by Toronto's best vintage shops, and now the Content Lead for Tokyo Smoke and Van Der Pop, Odessa has created big things quietly. But her personal style is far from mute.In this interview, Odessa shares her journey from being an outcast to a confident woman; her takes on the fashion industry that is based on people's insecurities; and history lessons on how/why cannabis has been attached with stigma. Give it a listen. Hope you enjoy it. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
