San Diego vs. Stanford College Basketball Pick Prediction 12/3/2023 by Tony T. San Diego at Stanford—San Diego returns just one starter from a team that finished at 11-20 a season ago. The team will rely on freshman to help this turnaround and their three-point defense was poor last year. Stanford returned three starters from a team that finished at 14-19 a season ago. This is a team with many seniors and juniors in the rotation. The Toreros are defending the three-point line and interior well this season. They do make their free throws and force turnovers on defense. Stanford has lost four of five. The Cardinals is weak on the offensive glass and give up 37% shooting from three. Past five games the Toreros allowing 38.1% shooting. Play San Diego +13.5.

Head Coach of the Lady Vols, Kim Cupini, joins us here at For Stars Podcast. In her first year of coaching the Tennessee Volunteers, Cupini and her supportive coaching staff, took the Fall 2023 season to "amp up the volume" and focus on bringing all of the athletes together as one. Cupini is well-suited to lead the Lady Vols, being arguably one of the most decorated coaches in collegiate rowing. Spending over twelve years coaching the Toreros at the University of San Diego, ten as the Head Coach, she developed the women so much that prior to her culmination at the helm of the program, the women at USD finished with the highest ranking in the history of the program. Similar to USD, Kim coached up the Knights at UCF, and just recently Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas from 2017-2023.Cupini's impact to each program she has lead is truly astronomical --- so much so that fifteen athletes from SMU, along with an additional five from other institutions, entered the NCAA Transfer Portal during the summer of 2023, in following Kim to Tennessee. Similar to the athletes, her coaching staff chose to travel to the Rocky Top as well, even including the Boatman, Randy Duffy.Hudson and Kim speak on a variety of topics regarding her transition to Tennessee as well as clarification to several widespread rumors and thoughts from rowing enthusiasts. Cupini's primary focus is student-athlete development, seeing the progression of the person as a whole, which is completely evident in the way she speaks about her team on this episode. Par sa nature même, et compte tenu des traditions un peu machistes du pays où il est né, on pourrait penser que l'art de la corrida est réservé aux hommes. Or, il n'en est rien. En effet, les femmes sont admises dans l'arène. Au point qu'un mot spécifique, "torera", a été forgé pour rendre compte de leur activité. Les premières toreras apparaissent en Espagne dès le XVIIe siècle. Les femmes de l'aristocratie sont plus nombreuses que les autres dans l'arène. Mais elles conservent un costume féminin et se présentent aux spectateurs vêtues de robes. De même, elles appartiennent à des équipes, "cuadrillas" en espagnol, entièrement féminines. Enfin, les spectacles qu'elles donnent sont le plus souvent burlesques. Mais les choses vont changer peu à peu et les toreras vont devenir, à l'instar de leurs émules masculins, de véritables professionnelles de la tauromachie. Mais il faudra un peu de temps pour cela. En effet, à l'orée du XXe siècle, certaines formes de corridas sont encore interdites aux femmes. Quel que soit leur succès, elles sont encore considérées comme des "novilleras", c'est-à-dire des toreras novices. Mais elles ne s'en laissent pas conter pour autant. En 1886, Dolores Sanchez, dite "la Fragosa", est la première à se présenter dans l'arène revêtue du célèbre habit de lumière. Dans les années 1930, Juanita Cruz est la première torera à se produire avec des hommes. Elle reçoit même le droit de porter l'estocade à un taureau, c'est-à-dire de le mettre à mort. Exilée au Mexique, elle reçoit l'"alternative", en 1940, des mains d'un torero. Autrement dit, il lui offre sa cape, ou "muleta", et son épée. C'est une sorte d'adoubement, qui lui permet, si l'on peut dire, de devenir torera de plein exercice. Dès lors, et malgré quelques retours en arrière, les femmes seront de plus en plus nombreuses à accéder à l'arène. En effet, à l'orée du XXe siècle, certaines formes de corridas sont encore interdites aux femmes. Quel que soit leur succès, elles sont encore considérées comme des "novilleras", c'est-à-dire des toreras novices.Mais elles ne s'en laissent pas conter pour autant. En 1886, Dolores Sanchez, dite "la Fragosa", est la première à se présenter dans l'arène revêtue du célèbre habit de lumière.Dans les années 1930, Juanita Cruz est la première torera à se produire avec des hommes. Elle reçoit même le droit de porter l'estocade à un taureau, c'est-à-dire de le mettre à mort.Exilée au Mexique, elle reçoit l'"alternative", en 1940, des mains d'un torero. Autrement dit, il lui offre sa cape, ou "muleta", et son épée. C'est une sorte d'adoubement, qui lui permet, si l'on peut dire, de devenir torera de plein exercice.Dès lors, et malgré quelques retours en arrière, les femmes seront de plus en plus nombreuses à accéder à l'arène. This week I had a chance to check out the 2022 version of USD football, first at the preseason scrimmage, then at the first game. While at the scrimmage, I was able to get a few words from Coach Lindsey – and his wife Eva. I caught up with the athletic director, butchered his name, then had a nice chat. Then talked to a WR who had a TD in the scrimmage. All in all, it was a great day and the team looks ready to do battle for another Pioneer League crown.
