The taxable value of the land at The Battery rose from $5 million in 2014 to $736 million in 2022, and it produced $26.5 million in sales tax revenue in 2022. The Battery had 10 million visitors in 2022, 80% of whom were from outside the county. Construction will begin this year on The Henry, a $500 million development, with a 3% ownership stake for the Braves. STORY 2: Council ** Christian Jamar Harris, a 32-year-old man from Acworth, Georgia, was arrested on April 27 for possessing over 100 videos of The Marietta City Council will consider Atlanta-based Bridger Properties' proposal to construct a seven-story, 84-foot-tall residential building with 135 units at 25 Polk Street downtown. The developer does not require a rezoning to proceed with the project but needs a certificate of approval from the council due to the property being in the downtown historic district. The Historic Board of Review recommended denial of the design, with criticism focusing on the proposed building's height and size and its proximity to the historic Root House. The developer has requested a two-month delay, and the council may approve the design or deny it, send it back for revisions, or keep the issue in its realm and seek revisions. The project, which is expected to cost $7.8 million, includes a multi-use trail between 10 and 12 feet wide and repairs to a bridge over Atlanta Road, and is expected to begin this summer and take two years to complete. The county will also build a trail between Plant Atkinson and the existing Silver Comet Trail in a separate project. In addition, the commission approved improvements to the 17.5-acre Ebenezer Downs Park in northeast Cobb. STORY 6: Bucs The Allatoona boys lacrosse team has advanced to the state championship for the first time in seven years after defeating Marist 16-7 in the semifinals of the Class 5A-6A state playoffs. The Buccaneers dominated the third quarter, outscoring the War Eagles 6-0, to secure the win and a place in the championship game against either Roswell or Cambridge this Saturday at 6pm. Allatoona last won the state championship in 2016 and the coach, Jonathan Wishon, is thrilled with the team's success, attributing it to the players' support for each other and their ability to play well together. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound receiver, who is expected to graduate this week, will have two years of eligibility remaining. Blaylock was a five-star recruit and had a promising start to his career at Georgia, but a torn ACL likely changed the course of his career. River Ridge continues its postseason march with a 61-43 win over Marist on Tuesday night. The Knights handed the War Eagles just their third loss of the season, rallying behind a lockdown defensive performance. After a tight first quarter, River Ridge shut down Marist's offense and took a commanding 28-15 lead going into the second half. #CherokeeCounty #Georgia #LocalNews - - - - - - The Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast is local news for Woodstock, Canton, and all of Cherokee County. After a tight first quarter between River Ridge and Blessed Trinity, the Knights made a change to their defensive approach and took off from there in Friday night's 65-47 second-round Class AAAAAA playoff win. The score was knotted at 11-11 through the first eight minutes, with River Ridge coming out in a press. The Titans were able to break it, though, and with their potent guard play, quickly move down the court and score. River Ridge changed its approach in the second quarter and outscored Blessed Trinity 16-2 going into halftime. River Ridge will face off against Marist in the Elite 8 after the War Eagles jumped on Tift County 61-37. Marist beat Blessed Trinity 49-34 earlier this season. In other girls' playoff action, Sequoyah pulled off the rare feat of sweeping a non-region foe in three games when they beat North Forsyth on Friday. Sequoyah jumped out to a 10-0 lead after bringing defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and scoring in those transition opportunities. The Chiefs took care of the ball on their end and knocked down shots. Sayler Davies hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first half, and Addison Ghorley connected on another. With the raucous Raiders' crowd, Sequoyah had to nullify its impact. After falling to Woodstock in the Region 6AAAAAA championship, Sequoyah has now won three straight games, with the last two coming by double digits. The Chiefs will meet Brunswick in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night. The Pirates defeated Woodward Academy in Round 2. With a hobbled Dastin Hart and a substantial size disadvantage, Cherokee's defense rose to the challenge in Saturday's 73-58 home playoff win over Berkmar, sending the Warriors to the Class AAAAAA Elite 8. Cherokee's shooters caught fire early, with Tayden Owens connecting on two straight 3-pointers to start the night. Berkmar went to Mekhi Ragland early in the paint, but the Warriors defended him well throughout the night and denied easy entry passes. Owens was the game's leading scorer with 26 points, followed closely by his backcourt running mate Cameron Pope, who finished at 22 points. Lawrence Sanford pitched in 15 points off the bench. Cherokee moves on to face Carrollton in Round 2, which defeated Parkview 58-56 on Saturday. Top of Form In other boys' basketball action, Etowah coach Jason Dasinger said the first half of Saturday night's high school basketball playoff game was on him. He let the players take over the second half, and that propelled to a 59-42 victory over Pope in the second round of the Class AAAAAA tournament. Aiden Weaver led a trio of Eagles players in double-digits with 16 points. Mason Etter and Brandon Rechsteiner added 15 points apiece. Sixth-ranked Etowah (21-8) moves on to the quarterfinals and will play at No. 2 St. Pius X on Wednesday in Chamblee. St. Pius X beat Lakeside-Evans 62-57 on Saturday. The Magistrate Court of Cherokee County has received a Judicial Excellence Award for Clearance Rate Excellence. The magistrate court received the award Jan. 25 for the 2021 calendar year, the court announced. This marks the fourth year the Cherokee County Magistrate Court has earned the award. The award is presented annually by the Administrative Office of the Courts' Standing Committee on Judicial Workload Assessment to the top 10% of counties in terms of clearance rate (16 counties out of 159). A clearance rate of 100% or greater demonstrates that the court is keeping up with its caseload. Deputy Clerk Elaine Ellis added that “it is truly amazing to see what can be accomplished when a team works together to achieve a common goal.” A former Woodstock High School teacher will serve three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to touching and groping six underage high school students, the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office announced. Ryan Parker McKendrick, 40, entered a negotiated guilty plea to nine counts of sexual assault of a student Feb. 9. Senior Judge C.J. Gober Jr. sentenced McKendrick to 20 years, with the first three years to serve in prison and the rest on probation. Upon probation, he will be under sex offender special conditions, and is forbidden to have contact with the victims or minors under the age of 18. In September 2018, administrators at the school became aware of a text conversation involving McKendrick and two female students that led to an investigation. McKendrick had been the school's chorus teacher since 2007. Investigators with Cherokee County School Police and Cherokee Sheriff's Office determined that many students had experienced similar behavior from McKendrick, prosecutors said. Eight of the victims delivered impact statements at the plea hearing, describing the abuse as traumatizing and a betrayal of trust, according to the district attorney's office. They said they continue to feel self-doubt and insecurity, and they struggle to trust anyone, especially those in positions of authority. Victims said they were relieved that the defendant admitted to the charges by pleading guilty. Holly Springs residents will soon see new playground equipment, as well as a dog park when visiting Barrett Park later this year. The Holly Springs City Council unanimously approved a $16,323 professional design service fee for improvements to Barrett Park Thursday to BM&K Inc. Another design service fee for $12,123 to the same company was approved for maintenance to the Barrett Springs detention pond. Improvements to the park include replacing the current playground equipment with new equipment, as well as replacing the basketball goal and improving the court. The city also plans to add an off-leash dog park, closed in with a chain length fence and connected to water to accommodate canine watering stations. The off-leash dog park will be inside the park on the west side of the gazebo, Holly Springs City Manager Rob Logan said Friday. The project also includes installing drains at the playground and refreshing the site with play-safe mulch, constructing a closed stormwater system from the east boundary of the park to the creek, and resurfacing and striping the parking lot along with the entrance road. BM&K will provide demo plans, a grading plan, drainage design, utility sheet and erosion control, according to city documents. Sequoyah-Con, a three-part miniature convention series hosted by the Sequoyah Regional Library system, will be held at area libraries on March 4, 11 and 18. Two of the three events will be at Cherokee County locations: the R.T. Jones Memorial Library in Canton and the Woodstock Public Library in Woodstock. The conventions are free to participate in and are open to all ages. March 4, the R.T. Jones Memorial Library in Canton is hosting a Pokémon program schedule starting at 10 a.m. that includes Pokémon-themed crafts, scavenger hunts, cross-stitch, paper circuits, terrariums, and more. There will also be two trivia games, one for adults and one for children. The program will end with a Pokémon costume contest from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. On March 11, the next event in the series is a gaming-themed program at the Gilmer County Library in Ellijay. Visitors of all ages are invited to play different games throughout the day, and there will be kid-specific games in the youth activity room. There will be a craft market, Breath of the Wild scavenger hunt, a fan art display and more. The last event, hosted by the Woodstock Public Library, is a cryptids program. The itinerary includes activities begin at 10:30 a.m. and include age-group crafting hours, X-Files trivia, a Pet Semetary stuffed animal craft, ectoplasm slime making and more. Special guests at the Woodstock library include author Delilah Dawson, storyteller Tracy Walker and a representative from Georgia Paranormal Investigations. Walker will be hosting a Bigfoot story time from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 18, open to all ages. Dawson, a published Georgia fantasy and science fiction writer, will be hosting a Q&A panel from 2-3 p.m. Georgia Paranormal Investigations will give a presentation about paranormal activity and ghost hunting from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The library system is also holding a reading challenge on Beanstack where participants can earn badges for reading books related to convention themes. The reading challenge ends March 31.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Jackson Aggies kicked off the 2022 football campaign with a trip to Mississippi. Episode Notes Today What Mad Universe?!? takes a trip to Hollywood--and to a movie that never quite existed, Merian C. Cooper's "The War Eagles". A lavish fantasy pulp adventure from the producer and special effects team of "King Kong", this movie almost got made, and might have changed fantasy adventure films forever, but for a quirk of history (well, if you consider World War II a quirk). Eventually released as a novelization much later, the script remains one of cinema's great might-have-beens. Support us on Patreon and listen to the show a week early! Interview with SCREAMING WAR EAGLES leaders Dean & Andra, talking Faction Warfare. Originally aired 6/6/2012
In this week's interview, I sit down with Paul Defiglia. Paul is currently the owner and operator of the Daylight Recording Studio located in Nashville. Tennessee. Previously, Paul was the bass player for Langhorne Slim and The War Eagles. Next, he temporarily stood in as the Avett Brothers' bass player before landing a full-time position on the keys, touring for several years. In 2020-2021, Paul played bass on and co-produced Langhorne Slim's, "Strawberry Mansion" and produced his first full-length solo album, "In Daylight." In part two of this two-part episode, we discuss Paul's journey from his time as a junior high trumpet player, his transition to bass, attending UNC's high school college conservatory, and eventually traveling to NYU to study bass in the Tisch School of the Arts. After college, Paul toured with Langhorne Slim for over four years before taking a break from music. Sometime after, Paul received a call to sub for Bob Crawford as the touring bass player for The Avett Brothers. This part-time job eventually leads to Paul's somewhat serendipitous metamorphosis into the Avett Brothers' full-time touring keys player, amazingly "learning" how to play the keys in front of sold-out shows across the country as he toured with The Avett Brothers. Please enjoy part two of my discussion with Paul DeFiglia.

We also discuss the incredible players he chose to include on his record. Please enjoy part one of my discussion with Paul DeFiglia.

We had the pleasure of spending a little time with Marist Head Coach Alan Chadwick. Coach Chadwick is a Georgia high school coaching legend. To date, his teams have won 367 games, which makes him the current active leader and second all-time. Marist has also never missed the playoffs under his guidance. Will those stats are nice, Coach Chadwick isn't focused on the past. The War Eagles have a challenging schedule this season. Coach Chadwick talks about some of those challenges and gives us a coach’s perspective on his team. Coach also gives us a little insight into the Fish Bowl that will be played Friday night at Hughes-Spalding Stadium on the Marist campus. Tune in as we talk War Eagle football with Coach Alan Chadwick. Please remember to follow us on twitter @turdfurgesonrpt and on the web at turdfurgeson.com
Coach Joe Scott takes over as head coach of the Landmakr Christian Eagles. Coach Scott is excited about the upcoming season and talks a little about his journey to Landmark, his players, and his expectations. Coach Scott also tells us how the War Eagles are involved off the football field as well in and around the community. And of course, Coach Scott clues me in on some of the best places to get a pre-game meal down in Fairburn. Tune in and find out all of the details. Hey friends, I hope you are having a fabulous day. Have I told you lately that I love you? I know, you are either thinking “isn’t that a song?” (Yes, you are correct and it is by Lionel Richie), or “why is Lori saying she loves me?” I am saying I love you cuz I was thinking about you and just feel so blessed you spend time with me and Boot Camp Challenge® (BCC), and you have chosen us as your fitness/wellness expert. Time is our greatest commodity- we have so little- and yet you choose to spend some with me. Yep, I love you, and I am so blessed. Now, if I still have your time for a bit longer, I want to introduce you to Avery Ivan, our newest BCC trainer. She is also a sophomore attending college at Auburn University (go War Eagles!). Avery shocked me from the moment I met her. She reached out to me about a position within my company when she was just 18 years old. That in itself is surprising to me. Most college bound kids are not thinking about their careers just yet let, let alone one that entails a hefty investment of time and money. She was also moving away to University, and after our interview stated she would reach back out to me the following Spring to see if I still had positions open and if she could still train with us. I marked it on my calendar, seven months forward, and forgot. One week before my appointment notification popped up, I received a text from Avery. Did I remember her? Could she sit for the second interview? Could she attend the next training? And, could she still come work for me? Again, Avery shocked me. Not only did she follow up seven months later, she was still determined to become a BCC trainer. At this point I am thinking Avery is a rockstar. She has determination, drive, passion, and a great attitude. So, we did the second interview. During this process, I discovered there was even more to Avery. She actually walked the walked. Even in college, (she did NOT gain the freshman 15), she made moving a priority, healthy food choices a must, and dove into the principles of health and wellness. And she is only TWENTY! When you see Avery, you see a sweet, fresh, twenty year old college student. What you get is someone who somehow adapted the principles of nutrition and movement and has a lot to teach even the older folk. In this podcast. Avery shares her journey with us and also gives us practical tips on how to make healthy choices, how to afford healthy food on a college budget, and how to incorporate movement into your day when you have NO time. And, while these strategies come from a 20 year old college student, it is the best advice for ALL of us! As always, I thank you so much for listening. And, for your feedback. Please keep it coming! And, your ideas. I always want to know what is important to you and what you would like to listen to on our podcast. Take care this week, make good choices and remember, invest in yourself :) Much love,Lors xoxo
On this highly polished, rather moist episode of the podcast, Jon Cross is joined by Professor Aloysius Fuknuckle (pronounced Fook-Noo-Klay) to discuss two war films all about eagles in which none of the feathered swine appear - Where Eagles Dare and The Eagle Has Landed. With a whole host of characters from Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood, Mary Urrrreeeeee (Grandmother to Midge) and Ingrid's Pitts to My Name Is Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, Twiddle Dee Two Donalds Sutherland, Jenny Agutters and featuring Donald "Two Pictures of Hitler" Pleasence as Himmler! It's a rip roaring tirade through the world of ornithology and war from two thoroughly British and quite often confused gentlemen. Trust me, you'll love it!
Cooper Wall is a Wide Receiver for the War Eagles of Davie County HS located in Mocksville, NC. He finished last Friday's game versus West Forsyth High School with 9 catches for 109 yards and one touchdown. Access Radio covered the game from the Davie County sideline. Although Davie County took a tough loss that night, I was amazed by this kid's never say die attitude. Cooper played 100% from whistle to whistle. When times got tough, he still continued to fight the good fight never giving up. I am very excited for this interview, and can't wait to hear what this young man has to say. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cast_of_champions/support
