Galatians 6:14 — Have you heard a Christmas sermon on the death of Christ? It seems like an odd mix, but in this sermon on Galatians 6:14, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones explains the importance of the cross to the birth of Jesus. He argues that you cannot understand the birth and incarnation of Christ— the reason we celebrate Christmas— without the cross. Why? First, the Messiah’s sufferings are prophesied throughout the entire Old Testament in passages such as Isaiah 53 and Genesis 3. Second, the cross was the real object of Jesus’ incarnation. Jesus was born for the express purpose of being the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all humanity. In this way, He was born to die, and this makes Him unique among any other person who has been born. Third, only the cross explains some of the audacious things that Jesus claimed and that were recorded in the gospels as being said about Him. Additionally, the cross was the lowest point that the Son of God has come to. He was enthroned in Heaven, yet He left His rightful place to come to earth and live the life that no one else has— a perfect one. He did all of this with the knowledge that one day, He would die an unjust death for the sins of the world so that those who accepted His sacrifice could have forgiveness from their sins. This is the reason we celebrate Christmas and is, as Dr. Lloyd-Jones reminds us, why the cross is central to correctly understanding Jesus’ birth.

Every Family’s Business challenges the idea that successful family businesses must keep family issues and business issues separate. Tom believes this separation is impossible and that most family businesses are set up from the beginning to fail because they attempt it. Tom offers a compelling argument for why families should be clear about when they will sell the business and to whom. Families that are upfront and realistic about their goals for transitioning ownership of the company can avoid family conflict. In this episode, Tracy and Tom chat about: Tom shares his personal and professional experience in the family business arena and why he is so passionate about the subject. His family has an incredible story of how three generations have founded, operated, and sold their private and publicly traded companies for a combined value exceeding $100 million. We chat about how business owners and farmers look at their family farm incorrectly. We tend to look at it as our legacy or "our baby" when it should be viewed as a vehicle to create and transfer wealth to the next generation. We chat about how mindlessly passing the farm down from generation to generation plays into the shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves phenomena. Multi-generation farms generate a lot of pride and place a lot of pressure on farm children. Often farm children are pressured into staying on the farm when they would rather be doing anything else. Love the farm and want to stay? Tom has a unique standpoint on transferring the farm to the next generation and how it should be done.  Tune in to find out more. …………………………. In this week’s episode, we speak to Elaine about her book, “Farming’s In-Law Factor.” What is the one thing that every farm family wants? It is simple; everyone wants harmony; however, it is not always the reality that we see on many farms. Unresolved in-law tensions can create chaos and split the farm. Elaine says that it is time to take the bull by the horns and solve the people conflicts on your farm. Are you a daughter in-law, mother in-law, father in-law or son in-law? If so, you will not want to miss this episode. I promise you.  In this episode, Tracy and Elaine chat about: Elaine has spent the last forty years as a certified Farm Family Coach. Over those years, she has been coaching families through transition, conflict, and some of the hardest things in life. Throughout each of her experiences, she has been striving to help farm families to create more harmony. Tracy asks Elaine, “Why this book?” Hint….there is a lot of conflict with daughter-in-laws. She has sat at many farm tables and learned many lessons from these conversations. The wisdom gained has been included in the pages of this book. Not a daughter in-law? Not a problem. This book has been written for the whole farm family, and there is a section for every role on the farm. The book is packed with helpful hints on what the daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and son-in-law need in order to be successful in their relationships and on the farm. Tracy and Elaine explore some of her favorite lessons from the book. This book has changed so many lives, and she shares just a few of the fantastic feedback that she has received from readers, including #iamthebrownegg. Your book saved my life. Chapter 10 helped us to decide to move on because things are never going to change and much more. In true Elaine style, there is a tool kit in Chapter 9 that you can use to immediately find out what is working and what is not working for your farm business partners, who also happen to be family. Finally, Elaine shares her mission in writing this book and what she would like readers to take away. You are not along in muddling through the people issues that threaten to undermine your hard work and family business. Elaine’s book is the tool you need today to help you get more harmony on your farm. …………………………. Make sure to grab a copy of Elaine's book today http://clforward.com/.2zc76 or Enter to win your copy. This text focuses on wealth, greed, and the search for contentment. Solomon makes clear that more wealth does not bring satisfaction. Why? First, because the love of money leads to all kinds of evil, including never-ending discontentment. The second reason that more and more wealth never brings contentment is a profound theological truth taught to us by the rappers of the 90’s: “mo money, mo problems”. The truth is if you love money, it’s going to cost you; it'll cost you relationships with friends and family, it’ll cost you sleep, and it'll cost you eternity if you don’t turn to Christ. If you make earthly riches your life’s pursuit, it will be a wasted life. Instead Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 show us a better way: enjoy the simple things in life, rejoice in your work, and be content with what you have. The key isn’t how much or how little you have, but rather how you view what you do have. In Christ we are free to recover God’s good design for how we use our money, to be content with what we have, to work hard, and to be generous with it.

5 Easy Gratitude Practice for LOA That Will Change Your Life #ThankfulThursdayWith Angela Atkinson - Get into the Gratitude Groove! Want to change your life for the better? Try gratitude. The art of practicing gratitude is just that – an art. It’s not always easy to feel thankful, especially when things aren’t going your way. My Cards: Gabrielle Bernstein Super Attractor Deck: https://amzn.to/2QYgtoU DBT Cards: https://amzn.to/2Fyu94D Here's the good news - an attitude of gratitude can help! Not only does being thankful lead to a higher rate of happiness and feeling content in your everyday life, but it assures better sleep and even can make you feel better overall. But feeling grateful can take effort, especially if you’re already having a bad day. How can you get into the gratitude groove when you’re not feeling it? 1. Appreciate the little things. When life is particularly overwhelming, sometimes the only gratitude that we can genuinely feel is for the small things. And that’s just fine. Taking time to be thankful for that cup of coffee, or that you got that great parking space might not seem like much but acknowledging them will do wonders for your mood. Spending your day looking for small things to appreciate has the interesting effect of making you notice the bigger picture items you can be grateful for as well. 2. Stop worrying about what other people have. If you feel like you can’t be grateful because someone else has it better, then your focus is in the wrong place. Who cares what your neighbor has? Be grateful for what you have. 3. Keep a gratitude journal. If you’re having trouble finding things to be grateful for, then make a practice of writing down the things for which you’re thankful. Why? First, by writing things down, you find them easier to remember. But second, you’re creating a record that you can look at to remind yourself that you do have many good things in your life. 4. Donate. Whether giving your time or resources, nothing makes for gratitude like helping someone else and seeing their appreciation. You might even find new things to be grateful about as well – like your ability to help, or perhaps you have a talent or skill you’re able to share. That makes this a win-win all the way around. 5. Make gratitude habitual. Try setting a time to be grateful. Before bed, you can list great things that happened today. Or maybe you’d prefer to start your day in gratitude. Whatever the case, getting into the mindset of daily gratitude will help you to keep on the lookout for things for which you should be grateful. The gratitude groove is a lot easier to get into than you think. You start simply by being thankful for the things you have in your life, and the rest grows from there. 1. Week 12 Takeaways Me: -The Los Angeles Rams are in trouble. BIG trouble. Their $112 million “franchise” QB Jared Goff has been exposed as a QB who is only as good as his offensive line is, as evidenced by the decline of that unit and his 0 TD/5 INT, 4 fumble, 58.9 passer rating month of November. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. WHY? First, they’re going to be hamstrung by the salary cap next season. According to OverTheCap.com, they will have over $95 million tied up into four players: Goff, Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley (who is WAY past his prime due to his arthritic knee), and Brandin Cooks…and dead cap charges make it impossible to release any of them. Next, most of their estimated $26 million in cap space will likely have to go toward re-signing Jalen Ramsey, for whom they traded away their 2020 AND 2021 first round picks. Thus, due to the lack of financial capital and high-end draft capital, it’s going to take a miracle of miracles for them to rebuild that OL and help get Jared Goff back on track these next few seasons…and to top it off, their best OL (Andrew Whitworth) is likely retiring after this season. NOBODY should be surprised if the Rams end up in the NFC West cellar as early as next season. Matt: Three top teams did not play well: Patriots, Saints, Packers 2. Truth/Exaggeration -The Giants and Lions should put Saquon Barkley and Matthew Stafford, respectively, on the shelf for the remainder of the 2019 season -The Tennessee Titans biggest offseason priority should be extending Ryan Tannehill -Although Jason Garrett deserves to be fired, Jerry Jones remains the Cowboys biggest problem -The Jaguars should go back to Gardner Minshew at QB to close out the season, especially if Nick Foles continues to lay eggs -Lamar Jackson has now pulled ahead of Russell Wilson in the 2019 NFL MVP race 3. Coaching Carousel: Fire or Retain? -Bengals: Zac Taylor -Giants: Pat Shurmur -Falcons: Dan Quinn -Jaguars: Doug Marrone -Lions: Matt Patricia 4. Game of the Week: 49ers at Ravens -What makes this game so unique (aside from it being a potential Super Bowl preview) is that it’s a battle between an unstoppable force (Lamar Jackson and the Ravens O) against an immovable object (49ers defense). And BOTH sides have players and schemes that can PERFECTLY exploit weaknesses and nullify strengths of the other, don’t they? -Is this arguably the biggest game of Jimmy Garoppolo’s career to date? Like if the Ravens score early and often, this will likely be the game where he MUST prove that he can go toe-to-toe with elite QB’s in a shootout -Key matchups: Fred Warner vs. Lamar Jackson, D.J. Jones vs Ravens backup center -Game picks 5. Game Predictions -Bears at Lions -Bills at Cowboys -Saints at Falcons -Browns at Steelers -Jets at Bengals -Eagles at Dolphins -Titans at Colts -Packers at Giants -Redskins at Panthers -Buccaneers at Jaguars -Rams at Cardinals -Chargers at Broncos -Raiders at Chiefs -Patriots at Texans -Vikings at Seahawks 7. BOLD PREDICTIONS ME: Cole Beasley goes berserk against his former team on Thanksgiving catching 10 passes for 150 yards and 2 TD MATT: Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs combine for 300 yards and 3 TD’s 8. Challenge Flags ME: Texans. Don’t make the same mistake the Cowboys did and scheme creative ways to get DeAndre Hopkins open against Stephon Gilmore MATT: Browns. PROVE you’re not the same old Browns!!

Here’s a great example of our ignorance and how the media and politics add to it. In 2016, Obama issued a White House paper on artificial intelligence. But it got no play in the media. It was released the same day we were smothered with Trump’s Access Hollywood tapes. So yes, you need to take control and get informed.Third, China is putting massive investment into artificial intelligence while lately the US has not.Fourth, China gathers a ton more data than we do in the US. Data is the feedstock for artificial intelligence. Here in the US we are trying to stop that feedstock because of privacy issues.

263: How to Reprogram & Repopulate Your Gut Microbiome for Optimal Wellness with Dr. Marvin Singh

Food Heals

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 12, 2019 60:11

If you’re struggling with your health, chances are it started in your gut. Supporting your microbiome is the first step towards optimal wellness.   What’s in your gut? What is your microbiome? Basically, it’s the community of friendly bacteria living in your gut. And they rule everything - from releasing hormones and neurotransmitters, to affecting how you think and feel. If you take care of them, they will take care of you.   The gut keeps you safe from autoimmune conditions, like multiple sclerosis, and chronic diseases. Why? First, you need to know that 70% of your immune system is in your gut. Inflammation, which is the root cause of disease, begins in the gut microbiome. Your gut bacteria creates inflammatory responses as a result of certain triggers - usually a combination of diet, stress, medications, toxins etc. Chronic inflammation happens when the immune system doesn’t shut off this response, and ends up attacking itself.   By giving the microbiome what it needs, you can stop this inflammatory response, and reverse chronic disease and autoimmune conditions.   The composition of your gut is completely unique to you. That means that your journey to healing will be different to someone else’s. It’s no use simply jumping on the latest health trend. You need to take a closer look at your body to work out the approaches that will work for you. This means working with someone who understands the gut microbiome and how to heal it.   The Gut Doctor Dr. Marvin Singh is an integrative gastroenterologist. He went to med school, but he wasn’t a healthy doctor. He was overweight and had early signs of fatty liver disease. As he reflected on this, he realized how little he knew about nutrition. So he enrolled in an integrative medicine fellowship, and discovered there’s more to health than the standard pharmaceutical methods. He began applying what he’d learnt to his own life and within 3 months he had lost 40 pounds. He realized he could help people heal themselves by taking a comprehensive approach - one that brings together nutrition, genetics and meditation. So now he combines some of the conventional methods with holistic, integrative medicine and nutritional genetics to guide his patients back towards total wellness.   Your Lifestyle and Your Gut Although we’re all different, we all share one commonality: if you give your body the chance to do what it wants to do, what it’s naturally designed to do, then it will do the best it can. The body is designed to heal itself if you give it the tools it needs. And while those tools differ slightly from person to person, there are certain common approaches that will work for everyone. Diet and nutrition play a huge role, but so does your overall quality of life. Dr. Singh begins with a back to basics look at your lifestyle:   How are you sleeping? How much are you exercising? Are you having fun? Are you stressed?   Dr. Singh’s Tips for Healing:   Take it easy in the beginning, trying to do everything at once will be too overwhelming and cause stress. Start with one or two changes a week. Give up sugar - sugar feeds the bad bacteria in your gut and creates microbiome imbalances. Fill up on fiber - fiber feeds the good bacteria in your gut and helps it produce healing chemicals. Reduce stress - stress chronically suppresses the diversity of your microbiome. Your thoughts can change the composition of your microbiome. At the same time, the composition of your microbiome can change your thoughts and emotions. It’s a two-way super highway. That’s why meditation and mindset are a key part of healing. Nutritional genetics will work out your genes, microbiome composition and food sensitivities to help you find which foods are best for you. Work with a doctor who understands the microbiome - like Dr. Singh!   Dr. Singh’s message is an optimistic one: everyone can get well, you just have to work with someone who understands you and helps you get to that point. Remember that the path to wellness is not a punishment, you can have fun while learning and trying new things. Check out Dr. Singh’s free e-book, the 4-Week Gut Reset, or send him a message on social media.   Being hailed as “Sex and the City for Food,” The Food Heals Podcast brings together experts in the field of nutrition, health and healing to teach you the best-kept natural secrets to being a hotter, healthier, happier YOU!   The Food Heals Podcast is hosted by Allison Melody and Suzy Hardy – two self-proclaimed natural chicks who will rock your world and change your beliefs about health! Discerning Your Purpose Have you ever wondered why you're on this planet? To glorify God and build His Kingdom is the answer that's true for all of us, but what about you specifically? What are you made to do? Show Notes: Welcome back to More than Milk; I’m Hannah Rebekah. As we’ve been talking about walking in the Spirit and knowing what God’s will for your life is the last few weeks, I’ve emphasized that it’s really not about finding one big “will” of God and you can then spend the rest of your life doing but rather listening moment-by-moment to what God wants you to do now. This keeps us reliant upon God and humble as we wait on Him. But you might be thinking, ‘That’s all well and good for the daily things, but what about when I have a really big decision? How do I know what God wants from me then?’ I’m going to answer that in a few different ways. First of all, understanding what God wants in the big things is built on a foundation of listening to what God wants in the little things. If you’ve made a habit of not paying attention to the nudges from the Holy Spirit throughout your life and then one day realize you need God’s help to make a big decision, it’s going to be a lot harder to hear Him. Only asking God’s opinion when you recognize your wisdom has run out is turning what is supposed to be a relationship into an emergency service. That’s not the design, and it won’t work well. The second thing I would advise during bigger, more difficult decisions is to not discount the input from those around you. I have seen so many people regret their college or major choice and so many couples end up miserable or divorced because they refused to listen to the advise of people who loved God and loved them. When we’re in the middle of a big decision, our emotions get tangled in with the logic. Often we really can’t see straight. We need to be in the habit of asking for input from parents, friends, pastors, mentors, and anyone else who is invested in us and loves Jesus. This doesn’t mean abdicate the decision. You shouldn’t poll those around you and just decide based on the outcomes. Pray, fast, and think carefully through the implications of your decision, but don’t make it in a vacuum. The third thing I have found is helpful—or I guess sixth if we count praying, fasting, and thinking through implications—is understanding your purpose. This is where I want to spend most of today’s time. Purpose is a concept I was introduced to seven years ago when I first came to Grace Adventures. It took me awhile to really understand what it meant and even longer to know what mine was, but I hope I can at least give you a starting point to figure yours out today. The idea of purpose is all over the bible and is grounded in the truth of God’s sovereignty. Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the Lord’s decree will prevail.” Romans 8:28, “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.” So we know at least God has an over-arching purpose for everything. God speaking through Moses to Pharaoh in Exodus 9:16 says, “However, I have let you live for this purpose: to show you My power and to make My name known in all the earth.” Acts 13:36, “For David, after serving his own generation in God’s plan, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and decayed.” This tells us that clearly God has specific purposes in His grander plan for each person. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.” God has planned out the good that we are to do for His Kingdom in our lifetimes. Now the idea of a life purpose is a little more intricate than that. It says that God has designed each person with an over-arching purpose for their lives and everything God has destined for them to do in this life more or less fits in that category. The verses above don’t get us quite this far. However, if we look at the way God has designed humans and human nature, we can observe a few things. God has made each of us with a unique appearance, set of skills, experiences, physical abilities, etc. While we can hone the skills we have and learn new ones to an extent, we can’t really change the way we were made. I will never be able to throw a football or ride a horse the way some of my more athletic friends can. I can get better than I am, but I just don’t have the body awareness they do. I can know how it’s done so well that I could teach someone else, but when it comes to actually getting my own muscles to do it, the finer points evade me. God could have made us way more adaptable than we are so that whatever He called us to on a particular day, we were able to do it. What an adventure that would be. Couldn’t ride a bicycle yesterday, but today you can. Couldn’t speak a language last week, but now no problem. God needs a Christian in the NBA, so now you can dunk. But that’s not the way in works. Instead, God deliberately designed each of us with built-in strengths and weaknesses. Why? First of all, I’m sure it’s to keep us humble. The fact that we can’t do everything reminds us that we’re human. Second, though, is because God has a specific purpose in mind for each of us, and He gave us the strengths and weaknesses we would need to fulfill that purpose. Whether you realize it or not, your weaknesses, though they may frustrate you at times, keep you on track. If you were good at everything, you would have a lot harder of a time figuring out where God wants you. You may have a lot of interests, hobbies, and skills, but if you can’t jump, at least you know you’re not supposed to play professional basketball. So if God has an over-arching purpose for my life, how do I find it? Great question. First, let’s define a little better what I mean by your purpose. It’s not where or how you do things, it’s what you do. Your purpose is not your job or career. People with very similar life purposes can be in vastly different fields. Let me give you a couple examples. My life purpose is to grow people spiritually. If I were to give it a little more detail and depth, I’d say my end goal is to help people progress in their spiritual walk to a point in which they can start developing those who are less spiritually mature around them. My core focus is identity formation, because I believe strongly that if you don’t have a grasp of what identity in Christ means and how to grow in it, you’re not going to move forward spiritually. Now that’s not necessarily a career. There are careers where that’s the main focus—youth pastor for one—but my job doesn’t have to be all about that for me to be able to fulfill my purpose. It does help me narrow down my career field. If I can’t live out my purpose at all in my work, like if I worked alone all day for example, that wouldn’t be good. I have a friend who’s worked his purpose down to a single word: disillusionment. He is quick to spot lies people are believing, call them out on them, and speak the truth. Our purposes are very similar, because if you remember, identity issues always come down to lies. However, the wording is important and shows how our approach is different. I like to cultivate truth and progress; he likes to spiritually attack lies. So now that we’ve defined purpose a little better, how do we figure it out? There are a couple of steps I’ve found helpful. The number one thing that helped me was realizing what made me spiritually excited. I don’t know if I can even fully explain what I mean by that. It’s when you have a moment of, “Oh my word, God, look what You just did through me!” For me, those moments are when I get to teach biblical truth and see fruit from it. That could be from teaching a Sunday school class, from someone seeking my advice, or just one of those life-on-life, spiritual/relational correction moments. My heart starts pounding excitedly, my mind is fully engaged, I get more expressive, and I can sense God working. If you can come up with a few of those moments and figure out what they have in common, you’re well on your way to knowing your purpose. If you’ve never had one of those moments, you should do a heart-check and figure out why. Are you refusing to do the things the Holy Spirit is telling you to? It could be that you’re living in fear because you don’t know your identity or believe that God always has your good planned in everything. Because of that, you’re missing out on the opportunities He wants to give you to see Him exemplify His power in your strengths and weaknesses. Non-spiritual things can also be indicators of where to look for your purpose. If you make a list of all the things you really love to do, I’m willing to bet there are patterns that will lead you in the right direction. I love to teach people things. I love to give advice. I love to come alongside and help. Those are all related to my purpose. I hope this gets you started thinking about and searching for your purpose if you don’t already know it. If you do, I hope you are energized to keep searching for opportunities to live it out! If you know what your purpose is, I’d love to hear about it. You can write me on facebook, Instagram, or send me an email. I’d love to hear from you! Next week we’re going to start a new series on the fruits of the Spirit. I hope you’ll join me then.

Meeting With a New Home Builder? Bring an Agent Along

Do you need agent representation when meeting with a new home builder? If you want to get the best deal possible, the answer is yes.   As a homebuyer, you should always have an agent by your side when meeting with a new home builder. Why? First of all, the builder represents their own interests, so having an agent by your side will help you truly understand what your costs will be and help you negotiate the deal. Also, new home builders operate under a set of rules that are slightly different than what you’d find in other real estate transactions. For example, they may try pressing their own lender on you, and that’s fine—they might be a great loan officer—but don’t forget that there are other local brokers you might be better off working with. Don’t feel like you have to work with the builder’s lender just because they’re offering you a credit. Oftentimes, the fees these lenders charge are very high and nullify whatever you save from these credits. Again, having an agent means having a second set of eyes to help you with this kind of thing. “New home builders operate under a set of rules that are slightly different than what you’d find in other real estate transactions.” The best part about having an agent represent you in this situation? It doesn’t cost you anything. We’ll help make the experience smoother and less stressful. There are a lot of hidden fees involved in purchasing a new construction home, so we can also compare the cost of these fees with resale homes to see if you’re truly getting the best deal possible. As always, if you have any questions about this or any other real estate topic, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’d love to help you.

In 1973, she joined the band Rufus. The first album in 1973 was a dud, but Stevie Wonder was so impressed by Chaka Khan's vocals, he wanted to write a song specifically for her. "Tell Me Something Good", written by Stevie, on their 1974 album won a Grammy. (He also played harmonica on 'I Feel For You'.). But, because of her increasing popularity the record label started calling the group Rufus "Featuring" Chaka Khan, (which was the title of their fourth album that had the hit single "Sweet Thing") and this caused tension in the band. Summary Do the ends justify the means? No, never. Never? Never. Why? First off, all means are ends in and of themselves. If that is not a sufficient answer, know that unless you are the one who is always in control of the means, when someone else is on control of the means from time-to-time, those perhaps inappropriate and unpleasant means could be used against you, justified by the pursuit of the ends those folks had in mind. And you may very well disagree with those chosen ends all while you are disagreeing with the means being used to achieve those ends. “Karma” is a word that pretty well sums that up. The Golden Rule is a more Western way to say the same thing: Use the means on others that you would like to have used on you. And you may very well disagree with those chosen ends all while you are disagreeing with the means being used against you to achieve those ends. “Karma” is a word that pretty well sums up that reversal. The Golden Rule is a more Western way to say the same thing: Use the means on others that you would like to have used on you. Let’s take a seat in our favorite theater and watch a particularly powerful scene from “A Man For All Seasons.” This is a conversation between Sir Thomas More, Lord Chancellor to Henry VIII, and Will Roper, the young hothead who want to fix all perceived injustices immediately and by any means necessary. Will Roper: “So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law! Sir Thomas More: “Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?” Will Roper: “Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!” Sir Thomas More: “Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!” Yes, Sir Thomas would give the Devil the benefit of law for his--his--safety. As we all should. Remember the Golden Rule of means and tactics. And Karma; remember about Karma. Think back with me to the debate about waterboarding. Many people were defending waterboarding by saying that information gathered that way saved American lives. The late Senator John McCain, famously a long-term, tortured prisoner of war, was against it. I am not taking a position for or against “enhanced interrogation” here; I am taking the position that if we do it, we should expect others to do it to us. More recently, we saw how “enhanced” tactics can come back to haunt the enhancer. In 2013, then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) used a simple-majority vote to change the Senate’s rules, allowing confirmation of judicial nominees to non-Supreme Court posts by the same simple-majority vote. That greatly advantaged the Democrats at the time, but came back to bite them in the form of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. And there’s the “Biden Rule.” “Trump gets to fill Kennedy’s seat — and it’s all thanks to Harry Reid.” Today’s key point: Employ only the means, the tactics,

This episode is a cavalcade of fun! Why? First, I've got a big announcement: I've accepted a new position. "What?!" exclaimed my mom. "I thought you were president of 7MS, what the what?" No worries, it's business as usual, and my responsibilities at 7MS aren't changing. But I'm also going to start writing blogs, nurturing a Slack channel and producing a podcast for somebody else each week. Tune in to find out who! Oh, and I also conclude this episode with a song from my band, Sweet Surrender. A few years ago we wrote a goofy song to start our shows called Sound Check, and in this episode, I wanted to debut the sequel to that song...called MANDATORY ENCORE. Enjoy.

FAR 126 Expected Air Date: 03/5/18 Opening: Hello everyone. I am Roger Blankenship and I teach people how to make money in Real Estate. We bring you news, trends, markets, and we feature people who are getting it done in this industry. Today we are starting a series I plan to continue over the next week or two as we think about Buy and Hold Strategies. Most of the people who want to invest in real estate want to own rental properties. There are certainly some benefits to this, including tax advantages and wealth building through equity, not to mention the possibility of extra cash. I say possibility because there isn’t as much direct cash in owning rental houses as you might think. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say that anyone who tells you you can borrow money, buy ten rental houses and then quit your job and live off that income is probably trying to sell you something. It just doesn’t work out that way in real life. If you want to own a rental property or 20, you need to think about how you are going to manage those properties. If you own less than five properties in your own community, don’t mind putting in a few hours a week, are fairly well organized and detail oriented, and are willing to educate yourself about your state’s tenant laws and local regulations, you might want to manage your properties yourself. But you need to say yes to ALL of those things I just mentioned so I’ll say them again: you own less than five properties in your own community, don’t mind putting in a few hours a week, are fairly well organized and detail oriented, and are willing to educate yourself about your state’s tenant laws and local regulations. If you say no or have any doubt about your ability to seriously follow through, you need a property manager. I’m a real estate professional but I don’t manage my own rental properties, except for the one industrial building I own. Why? First of all, I don’t have the time. Secondly, although I have managed them in the past, have done my own evictions and court cases and know HOW to do it, I don’t WANT to. It’s not the best use of my time. So I use property managers. I’ve had good ones and I’ve had not-so-good ones. The quality runs the gamut just like any other product or service.   In a few moments we are going to speak with Katie Griffin, an Atlanta based property manager with Excalibur Properties. I’m going to throw a lot of questions at her just to see how she responds. Many of them are YOUR questions.   After the interview I’m going to provide a few things to look for if you are thinking about hiring property management:   Over the next week or so I’m going to introduce you to people who are buying apartments, creating turn-key rental properties, and providing other services for you as a buy and hold investor. So today our focus is on cash-flow. We will continue to answer any questions you have and help you in any way we can, but this is the theme. Remember we answer 100% of the questions you send in, some of them on the show. So keep them coming.   Announcements: Call in to our comments line! 404-369-1018, extension 1. Can you review what you all discussed?” Topics: Questions for Property Manager: How many properties does your firm manage? How long have you been doing it? Can you provide contact information with two or three of your landlords as a reference? What are your fees? Both for placement and for management? (8% is normal) What happens if a tenant you place leaves or is evicted before the lease is up? Do you have your own repair company or do you have relationships with contractors? (You don’t want them to have their own repair company - there is no price control on repairs). What is your procedure for handling repairs, both minor and major? May I see a copy of your contract? You want to be able to cancel the agreement at any time with 30 or 60 day notice. You probably don’t want to have to pay them a commission if you decide to sell the house later. If you sell to a tenant they place, paying a real estate commission is reasonable, but they should offer something less than 6%. They have already been paid the placement fee, which covered their marketing costs. There is so much more to this process that you will learn WHEN you get started. You can’t learn everything you need to know before you begin. Know the big stuff that could really hurt you and then begin. What are the big things? What to pay for it? Know what your initial fix-up costs are. Know your remaining life on major items: roof, hvac primarily. Have a plan for management. Consider all the costs in your analysis - taxes, insurance, management, vacancies, expected repairs, and unexpected possibilities. Think 30% of revenue.

He was a mighty hunter before [Lit: against] Adonai—this is why people say, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before [Lit: against] Adonai.”– Torah: Bereshith (Genesis10:8-9) “And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, says the LORD.”– Jeremiah 51:24 “On her forehead was written a name with a hidden meaning: BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF WHORES AND OF THE OBSCENITIES OF THE EARTH.” – Revelation 17:5 Daniel and the three Hebrew children are examples of deliverance for G-d's People. More particularly, Mordecai and Esther (the Jewish heroine Hadassah), through their prayers, fasting and action kept the Jews from being exterminated by Haman in 127 provinces from India to Ethiopia. However, recall the mass pillage and murders done to the Jewish People under the Roman Titus and his armies [mostly conscripts and enlistees from Ishmaelite-Arabian areas in the Middle East] in 70 C.E. And that's NOT even acccounting for the genocide of six million Jews under the rule of Hitler in Nazi Germany. [Note: first usage in Bible of the word "Arabs" is in 4 Kings  (Tanakh) or 2 Kings 17:11 in Holy Bible. Satan tried many times to exterminate the Jewish People. WHY? First, because he did not want the Mashiach of Israel to be born; therefore, he attempted to destroy the seedline of the Jewish People and thereby cut off the family line from which it was prophesied that Messiah would come. “Before she travailed, she brought forth; Before her pain came, she gave birth to a boy.”‒ Isaiah 66:7 Second, because after Messiah was born, Satan did / does NOT want the Mashiach to return a second time to deliver Israel from her future travail in the Time of Jacob's Trouble and establish His Kingdom. “Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Can a land be born in one day? Can a nation be brought forth all at once? As soon as Zion travailed, she also brought forth her sons.”‒ Isaiah 66:8 However, let's look at three specific historical events designed by the enemy of Israel: ▪ The enemy tried to destroy the Hebrew boys in Moses' day under Pharaoh. ▪ The enemy tried to destroy ALL the Hebrews in Esther's day under Haman. ▪ The enemy tried to destroy the Hebrew boys in Yeshua's (Jesus') day under Herod. ~ Satan will try again to destroy the Jews ~ ~ He does NOT want Messiah to return the second time ~ ~ WHY? Because Messiah will establish His kingdom on earth ~ __________________________________________ “It will come about in all of the land," declares the LORD, "that two thirds of the people living there will die, but a third will survive who live there.”‒ Zechariah 13:8 __________________________________________ Now let's look at a quick historical background of the “Jews” and/or “Hebrews” and follow the evolution of the etymology of the names ... and while doing that we will SEE what's happening today ... and what will happen in the future. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The name "Jew" was first used to refer to someone from the tribe of Judah. Later, after the return from the 70 year captivity in Babylon―in the time of Ezra and Nehemiah―the name "Jew" was used to refer to anyone from any of the 12 tribes. However, the tribe of Judah seemed to make up the larger portion of the remnant of Israel. The children of Israel were originally called "Hebrews." Concerning the term "Hebrew," it is interesting that after the Children of Israel finished wandering for 40 years, and before they passed over the Jordan River into the Promised Land, they lodged for three days at the brink of the Jordan River. Joshua, their leader after Moshe, sent officers through the camp who commanded the people as: "When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your G-d, and the priests―the Levites―bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.” “Yet there shall be a space between you and the ark, about 2,000 cubits (1,000 yards or 914 meters) by measure. Do not come near the ark, so that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before." (Tanakh: Sefer Y'hoshua / Book of Joshua.) The Hebrew root word for "passed" used [in previous text] is "abar" [ah-var] which means "to pass over, go through, pass beyond, or to make a transition [figuratively or literally]." To arrive INSIDE your own personal Promised Land, you will have to go through a TRANSITION! The Hebrew word "abar" also means "to pass from one side to the other side." Interestingly enough, a derivative of the word "abar" is "ibriy" which means "Hebrew" and is the ethnic description of Abraham and his seed line, who was a descendant of “Eber”―the great grandson of Noah's son Shem. Genesis 14:13 / Bereshith talks about "Abram the Hebrew." Exodus 7:16 / Shemot mentions "the LORD G-d of the Hebrews." Here "Hebrews" represents a tribe of Semites (sons of Shem). Abraham "crossed over" the Euphrates River from Haran to Canaan, the land G-d promised him. How did he do it―through OBEDIENCE! Abraham, with his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot, had originally left Ur of the Chaldees with his father, Terah, and arrived in Haran. It's possible the LORD had wanted Terah to take the trip of faith from Haran and he may not have obeyed; possibly that is why G-d chose Abraham. FAST FORWARD: The extended war in Iraq played―and will continue for a while―to play an important part in End Time prophecy: 1. for Israel; 2. for the Middle East; and, 3. for the West. The result will be a paradigm shift in world commerce, geopolitics and religion. Plus ... Israel will be swept up in a vortex of persecution. But wait … With the President of USA, Donald Trump, declaring Jerusalem as [undisputed] Capital of Israel―and with observed synergistic economic prosperity of those who agree―an emotional “brain twist” will result in Islamic nations: jealousy AND attention. REFLECTION: What politicians. educators and the news media do NOT realize―rather, do NOT understand―is that President Trump of the USA is anointed by G-d to help Israel. That's WHY in just one year the economy of the USA has surged: corporations investing in development plus training employees; unexpected bonuses to employees; corporations returning to USA from abroad; stock market soaring to new highs. Dead people do not understand life; unbelievers do not understand ... nor comprehend ... the anointing: what it is; why it is imparted; and from where it originates. Donald Trump―in his office of President―is anointed as much as Cyrus was who commanded the Jerusalem to be rebuilt and the foundations of the Temple to be laid. Cyrus was a pagan ruler! Isaiah refers to pagan Cyrus as “the Lord's anointed.” (See Isaiah 44:28 – 45:7.) This prophecy―and G-d calling Cyrus by name―was 150 years before the happening! Remember, in Torah G-d promised “I will bless those who bless Israel.” [Several places in Bereshith / Genesis.] Even Middle East Islamic countries could be blessed if they were to “wake up” and work with Israel ... helping Israel. THINK ABOUT IT. Don't forget though: Ezekiel tells us that in the future Iran will―with Turkey, Russia, North East Africa and neighboring Muslim countries―attack Israel and be wiped out by G-d. REPEAT: There will be a paradigm shift in world commerce, geopolitics and religion. Plus ... Israel will be swept up in a vortex of GREAT BLESSING … with persecution. Israel's prosperity will be a "thorn" in the sides of her Islamic enemies. But WAIT ... Remember what Isaiah tells us will happen in the future: "For Adonai-Tzva’ot has blessed him: 'Blessed be Egypt my people, Ashur [Assyria = Syria & Iraq] the work of my hands and Israel my heritage.'” Right now, Iraq plays a key piece―not only in the Middle East with the “tug of war” between Iran and the West―but in the prophetic puzzle (and the timeline) of the world. Babylon, in the land of Shinar, was the headquarters of the first world autocrat. His name was “Nimrod.” Scripture―in the original Hebrew language, and also supported by rabbis―shows that Nimrod was “a mighty hunter against―or in opposition to―the LORD.” Concerning Nimrod, See Torah, Bereshith / Genesis 10:8-9. Just as Babylon was the headquarters for the first world dictator―Nimrod―so the NEW BABYLON will be the headquarters of NEW NIMROD: the FINAL New Global Governance dictator: a despot and worse than tyrant. The New Global Governance leader will be chosen by the NWO―New World Order (or whatever name the organization ascribes to itself at that time). He will be the FALSE mashiach (messiah) and the greatest enemy that Israel and the Jewish People have ever known. Turkey will probably become the headquarters for the New Global Governance. In due time it will become obvious that it will in effect be the (clandestine) headquarters of the NIO: New Islamic Order. As the Global Governance Center, Turkey will come into position―may break away from its previous European and western associations―and, as the Eastern leg of the old Roman Empire, it will be the epicenter of Islamic geopolitical and financial concourse, fostering the development of New Babylon: international commercial, political and religious centre of the world. New Babylon will work in alignment―for a season―with the New Global Governance leader: the FALSE Messiah. New Babylon will later be destroyed by a confederacy of Ten Regional Leaders―who actually support her development at first―and who align themselves with the dictates of the New Governance Leader: the FALSE Messiah. TAKE AWAY: Israel's leaders must pray for discernment and insight in the coming commercial, geopolitical and religious shifts. Watch Turkey, watch the UN and its evolution / transition into the New World Governance ... and watch for the New Nimrod: a man of “supposed” peace who will appear on the world stage. This New Nimrod will broker a seven year peace agreement―a covenant just like Daniel prophesied―and in the middle of the seven years, he (the False Mashiach) will go into the newly built Temple of the Jews and declare that he is G-d: the overspreading of abomination just like Daniel prophesied (and an anti-type of Antiochus IV Epiphanes who desecrated the Temple around 167 BCE. Antiochus Epiphanes is a tyrannical figure in Jewish history, and he is also a foreshadowing of the coming Antichrist. The prophet Daniel predicts an atrocity in the temple in the end times (Daniel 9:27; 11:31; 12:11.) prophecy concerning a coming ruler who will cause the offerings to cease in the temple and set up “an abomination that causes desolation.” What Antiochus IV did certainly qualifies as an abomination; however, Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) speaks of Daniel’s prophecy as having a still-future fulfillment. (See Brit Chadashah: Matthew 24:15-16; Mark 13:14; Luke 21:20-21). The False Mashiach (Antichrist)―the New Nimrod―will model Antiochus Ephiphanes in his great pride, blasphemous actions, and hatred of the Jews. After this―in the remaining 42 months of the seven year covenant―will be the Time of Jacob's Trouble (Jeremiah 30:6-7) ... the worst time for the Jewish People (and the believing Gentiles) ... they have ever known: mega-worse than the Nazi Holocaust under Nazi Germany. But Israel shall be saved out of it! “For I will restore your health, I will heal you of your wounds,” says ADONAI “because they called you an outcast, Tziyon, with no one who cares about her.” ‒ Jeremiah 30:17 With Israel’s great prosperity and ascendancy through technology, natural resources and humanitarian efforts―with the wealth of the goyim (nations) coming into her―will come great persecution―again―that will result in the the combined armed forces of the New Global Governance PLUS the Islamic enemies of Israel against Jerusalem. THEN ... In a nanosecond the REAL Mashiach (Messiah) will come from Heaven to the Mount of Olives and bring the FINAL deliverance and victory to believing Jews in Israel. Be ready … put your faith in Him. You can know the Mashiach TODAY ... and make sure you do, before the real birth pains come to pass from travail in the Time of Jacob's Trouble. “Call out to me, and I will answer you—I will tell you great things, hidden things of which you are unaware.” - Jeremiah 33:3 “Come now, and let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” – Isaiah 1:18 BABYLON THE BITCH: ENEMY OF ISRAEL MAP OF THE END TIMES:FUTURE NEWS NOW Baruch haba b'Shem Adonai. How much money do you really need for a down payment on a home? I’ll go over a few different options today.Selling a home? Get a free home value reportBuying a home? Search all homes for saleIf you want to buy a home, how much money do you need for your down payment? Most lenders would love to see you put the standard 20% down for a conventional loan. Why? First of all, you won’t have to pay mortgage insurance. Secondly, you will be less of a risk. You are more likely to make your mortgage payments because you have equity in your home. Finally, putting 20% down helps you qualify for a bigger purchase. That said, there are a few things to consider.Recently, the National Association of Realtors revealed statistics from April to June of 2017 that found that 73% of all first-time homebuyers put less than 20% down; 61% of those buyers put less than 6% down. Here in Southern California, which includes Orange County, L.A., and the Coachella Valley, prices are appreciating and interest rates are low overall. The market is really taking off, although the desert is slowing down a little bit. Home prices have appreciated quite a bit over the past eight and a half years since the bottom of the market.Buyers are tired of renting. They know that long-term investments mean long-term gains. Real estate is a great way to build your portfolio and start building your wealth. In fact, 95% of all people who become millionaires got there through homeownership.“There are a few benefits to putting 20% down on a conventional home loan. ”A lot of people may say that renting is the way to go. Renting is fine if you are moving around a lot or have a transient job that requires you to go from location to location. If you have established a family or have a great career in the area, then why are you renting? Why are you spending $2,000 to $4,000 and not gaining anything from it?You may have a great place to live, but the reality is you are not benefiting from any of the mortgage interest deductions or appreciation that homeowners do. If the landlord decides to sell your home because the market is improving, then you have to move again, which costs you time and money. So, what are the loan limits? FHA loans allow you to put 3.5% down. If you are looking to buy a $500,000 home in Orange County, you would need $17,500 down. If you were looking at the same home but needed to put 20% down for a conventional loan, you would need $100,000 for your down payment. You can also get a conventional loan with a 5%, 10%, or 15% down payment. If you qualify for a VA loan, you can purchase a home with no money down.If you would like to talk more in depth about which options are available to you, give us a call or send us an email. You can also get pre-approved by our preferred lender on our website. So, if you have any questions, give us a call or send us an email. We would be happy to help you!

The first day of school sets the tone for the whole year. Here are 10 things to avoid on the first day of school. Get notes & links at www.teach4theheart.com/firstday Get the free classroom management minicourse at www.teach4theheart.com/minicourse __________________________________________________   What NOT to Do the First Day of School   The bell rings and the students come pouring in to the first day of school. Excitement and a bit of chaos fill the air as well as some nervous anticipation – not just from the students but also from the teachers. Yes, the first day of school is extremely exciting, but those first few hours with your students are also critically important. In fact, they can actually make or break the entire school year. 10 Things Not to Do on the First Day of School Let the little things go. The biggest mistake I made during my first year of teaching was letting little things go. A little talking here, a student with their head down there – no biggie, right? Wrong. When we let the little things go, we give our students the impression that we either don’t notice or don’t care about their behavior. And the problem is that those little things won’t stay little; they’ll quickly escalate to full-blown problems. The answer? Simply address the small things with a simple statement such as “Greg, please sit up. Thank you.”  Check out my post “The Tiny Mistake that Could Ruin Your Whole Year” for more details on this topic.     Lay down the law. My personality doesn’t lean this direction, but I’ve seen teachers, in an attempt to avoid letting the little things go, take the opposite extreme. They decide they need to lay down the law and show the kids who’s boss. So they jump on any small infraction and whack the kids with the biggest punishment possible to show them that they will not tolerate misbehavior. This isn’t a wise approach either. Yes, you need to address the little things, but often all that’s needed is a verbal correction. And if consequences are in order, give appropriate ones; don’t inflate them just to scare the students. Check out my posts “Should Teachers Lay Down the Law?” for more thoughts about this.     Make it a “fun day.” Okay, yes, the first day of school should be kind of fun and exciting. But you shouldn’t intentionally make it a “fun day” or a “party day.” If you do, you are setting a very bad precedent and are just asking for your students to be out of control. Instead, start off the school year as structured as possible. Then, once the students are used to structure you should be able to add in some fun activities without losing control.     Go over all your procedures. Please don’t torture your students by spending the whole class going over a sheet that contains all your procedures. This is so boring, and it’s probably also what every other teacher is doing. Yes, you absolutely need to teach your procedures, but you should teach them as they come up, not all at once on the first day. And if you have procedures written on a handout, just let your students read them for homework. (p.s. if you’re wondering how to teach procedures, check out my posts “How to Teach Procedures that Your Students Will Actually Follow.“)    Spend more than 30 seconds talking about fire drills. Okay, if you teach elementary you might be justified in taking more like 2-5 minutes. But for middle school and high school, please don’t. Just don’t. These poor students are hearing about fire drills in every class, and it’s not like they’ve never done one before. Furthermore, it’s not as if they’re going to remember exactly which direction they’re supposed to leave the building in each of their 8 classes. Instead, go over fire drill procedures as quickly as possible. Then later in the week you can go over them in more detail when the students’ brains aren’t being overloaded with procedures.     Dress down. Even if you typically dress somewhat casually, the first day of school is not the time to dress down. Your students only get one first impression of you, so the first day of school is the time to pull out the most professional outfit you have. Check out the posts “Do Teachers Really Need to Dress Professionally?” and “How to Dress Professionally on a Teachers’ Income” for more thoughts on when dressing professionally actually matters and how to do it on a budget.      Just wing it. If you try to wing the first day of school you will probably survive it just fine, but you’re also wasting an incredible opportunity to start the year off right. Instead, plan every minute so that you are prepared, confident, and organized. The best way to start class is to have some type of simple assignment ready for the students as they enter the class. This will keep them occupied while you deal with the inevitable confusions of the first few moments of class.     Let students choose their own seats. Even if you plan to allow students to choose their own seats at some point in the future, you still want to assign seats on the first day. Why? First, because it will help you learn their names more quickly. And, second, because allowing them to choose seats and then trying to figure out who is in which seat wastes a whole lot of time. In addition to having a seating chart ready, plan a way to tell students their seats as they enter class instead of after they’ve already sat down. For example, have the seating chart displayed on a smart board or projector. Or, have each students’ name and seat number on a post-it note on the wall so they can quickly find theirs and locate their seat.     Pass out textbooks one by one. This may not seem like a big deal, but it can really waste a lot of time to call your students out one by one to come up and receive their textbook. Instead, come up with a way to hand them out quickly. I typically had them set out at the end of each row, and the students would simply pick up their stack and pass them back. This means I invested time beforehand writing down all the #’s and putting each student’s name in their book, but it was worth it to help streamline the process. Your goal should be to actually teach something in each class Waste a single moment. Plan through each procedure and activity and find the way to do it as efficiently as possible. Your goal should be to actually teach something in each class. And that’s not going to happen unless you’re very intentional about being incredibly efficient and focused. What does the Bible tell us about the love God has for us? See Song 2:4! AMEN! Love is the greatest gift God offers us! And yet it is the one we have the most difficulty receiving. Why? First, sometimes we do not think we deserve His love, which is true. :God demonstrates His own love toward us," the apostle Paul writes, "in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" Romans 5:8. Second, we often do not understand God's unconditional love because its quality differs so much from our own.

It’s election season and the news is full of headlines about the issues most on the minds of voters. And for candidates trying to woo Latino voters, there’s nothing more important than immigration, right? Wrong. Poll after poll shows Latinos are more concerned about the effects of climate change than voters overall and that reducing smog and air pollution, conserving water, and protecting waterways and clean drinking water, scored higher than immigration reform. Why? First of all, Latinos, like everyone, are complex and not single-issue voters, contrary to myth and stereotype. And second, seeing is believing. They’re feeling the effects in their daily lives—sea level rise, extreme weather, severe drought, and heat waves. So, for that reason, protecting the environment has political consequences. In recent polls, an overwhelming majority of Latinos said they were somewhat to much more likely to support candidates who commit to protecting the environment.
