The first time I went to Win Son bakery and café in Brooklyn, I wasn't sure what to expect. It's billed as a Taiwanese-American bakery, and I'm not too familiar with Taiwanese baked goods. I ordered a few things off the menu that sounded good, and after I brought them to the table, I started tasting my way around the tray, and everything I ate blew me away. Everything was delicious. The bakery and menu items take cues from familiar favorites, such as chocolate chip cookies and donuts, but I was delighted at how brilliantly they incorporated mochi, candied red beans, red rice, and scallions, along with raclette cheese, heritage bacon, and mortadella. It was the best of both (or many) worlds.I was especially drawn to the Fan tuan, rice rolls filled with eggs, bacon, and a crispy cruller in the middle. It was a great combination, and I could easily give up baguettes and croissants for breakfast if I lived closer. [And yes, they have a cookbook!]Another favorite is the egg and cheese scallion pancake breakfast sandwich, which is yet another great argument for combining the best of two culinary cultures, American and Taiwanese. declared it was the best breakfast sandwich of his life and the best thing he ate in 2023. Since meeting him, I've gotten to know Trigg, the co-owner and chef of Win Son, and count him as a friend. It was a pleasure to sit with him in the bakery (pardon any background noise in the podcast). He's fortunate to have pastry chef Danielle Spencer in the kitchen, who is a treasure, and is responsible for the delicious pastries, along with her staff. In the kitchen attached to the café, the savory breakfast items are made mostly to order, including the scallion breakfast sandwiches and the Fan tuan rolls. Below, you can watch Trigg making the pancakes and another team member rolling up the rice rolls. This book documents events experienced after becoming a Whistleblower against the most powerful debt collection organization in the world. Using fictional characters and conversations, this story exposes efforts to cause financial, emotional, and mental harm to me, my family, and my friends. Tactics such as privacy violations, illegal monitoring and surveillance, misuse of government records, and violation of trusted agreements with third-party banking, healthcare, credit, government officials and data are exploited by this institution to achieve their goal. About The Author: I am a senior leader with over 20 years of experience focused on business, finance, and acquisition management. I'm a change agent; transforming and improving business operations and processes. I have two Masters degrees in Business Administration and Information Systems, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical and Research Technology. I am also certified in Information Assurance (cybersecurity) and Project Management. I am by no means ignorant or naive. For several years, I worked for the Federal government with no problems, until I decided to take a stand against corruption. I did not know that taking on this new role would also mean a new title - a Whistleblower. Tread Perilously's crossover month proves as a good excuse to examine episode seven of The Brady Bunch Variety Hour -- a crossover in its own right! In the narrative sketches, the school-aged Brady kids meet the children from What's Happening!! when they are moved to the Bradys' studio classroom for the day. The actors always present as themselves, but the show tries very hard to make them behave as their characters. Nevertheless, the quick rapport between the two groups leads Peter to suggest the What's Happening!! kids be guests on the Bradys' variety program. Will Mike and Carol be as pleased? Also, will they be able to articulate why they don't want young actors who play kids from Watts on the show? Paul Pakler from Paul and Corey Cross the Streams joins Erik and Justin for a look at 1970s variety television. Erik, being on assignment, must use a lower-quality microphone. Paul blames Richard Nixon (haroo!) for the enduring popularity of the Brady concept. Justin tries to find some modern personalities who could host a variety show. Erik blames Ken Ober for Susan Olsen's downward spiral. The horror of Alice's musical number is defined in detail and Rick Dees is almost ignored. Danielle Spencer proves to be the episode MVP and Fake Jan makes a small impression.

We bring you the next installment of the Spanky podcast and the bare necessity series. In this Hollywood reenactment we go to the TV show what's happening where our young female actress named Danielle Spencer who plays Dee gets in a heap of trouble with her mother when she tries to take advantage of her family because of a misunderstanding and a doctor's office. This was a very interesting roleplay as I'll be playing both the mom and the kid parts but the spanking was done by a friend of mine who wanted to just do the spanking and not any of the role play. Will not hear the spankers voice in this role play as she was just there to do the punishment part of the podcast. I played both roles of the kid and the mother and then spliced in the spanking by the spanker. I hope you enjoy this reenactment as this is a very important role play that I grew up with. I always remembered watching this episode and always laughing while watching it always put me in a good mood cuz I always enjoyed Mabel King as the strict disciplinarian mother who would spank her son Roger and then only one time in the series where she would spank her daughter. Although you never saw the spanking in any of these shows you were aware that it probably happened. The classic lines by Mabel King in this show which included we're going to go to the surprise place and I'm going to give you the surprise thing and I'm going to have fun giving it to you and then ending the TV show with don't worry Dee I'll look at your side and you can be sure I'll get to the bottom of it. If anything screamed spanking like this did I'm not sure what else did. I've always had a strong fantasy about an adult African-American female helping me with a spanking and I always kind of envisioned Mabel King be my mother in a dream. On episode 172 of The Quarantine Tapes, Paul Holdengräber is joined by Danielle Spencer. Danielle’s most recent book is Metagnosis: Revelatory Narratives of Health and Identity. Danielle and Paul talk about how her book examines the phenomenon of learning as an adult about a longstanding medical condition.Danielle tells Paul about the inspiration that led her to write this book and explains how the book fits into her field of narrative medicine. They discuss the relationship between medicine and storytelling and how examining that relationship can help to address some of the ongoing issues with the healthcare system. Danielle Spencer is a scholar and writer, author of Metagnosis: Revelatory Narratives of Health and Identity, just released by Oxford University Press. Metagnosis names and explores the experience of learning in adulthood of a longstanding undetected condition, such as mid-life ADHD diagnoses. Sparked by her experience working with David Byrne (who self-diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome; Spencer was Byrne’s Art Director for a decade) and then animated by her own metagnostic experience, the book explores the ways metagnosis subverts customary terms and categories such as disease, disability, etc., and often prompts its own distinctive narrative arc. Drawing upon a wide range of sources—from Aristotle to Blade Runner—the book also situates metagnosis in relation to genetic revelations and the broader discourses concerning identity. Spencer proposes that better understanding metagnosis will not simply aid those directly affected, but will serve as a bellwether for how we will all navigate advancing biomedical and genomic knowledge, and how we may fruitfully interrogate the very notion of identity.  Spencer is the Academic Director of the Columbia University Master of Science in Narrative Medicine Program. Narrative Medicine is a method of fortifying clinical practice with attentiveness to narrative as well as an evolving transdisciplinary field which investigates illness, health, healthcare, and social justice. Her scholarly and creative work appears in diverse outlets, from The Lancet to Ploughshares, and she is a co-author of Perkins-Prize-winning The Principles and Practice of Narrative Medicine (OUP, 2017). Formerly artist/musician David Byrne’s Art Director, Spencer holds a B.A. from Yale University, an M.S. in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. She is a 2019 MacDowell Fellow and 2021 Yaddo Fellow. Spencer lives in New York city.

Started singing early, formed a girl group at age eleven. Changed her name to Chaka Adunne Aduffe Hodarhi Karifi at thirteen and started running around with the Fred Hampton and the Panthers.  In 1969, at age16, she dropped out of high school, left the Panthers, and focused on singing with local bands. In 1973, she joined the band Rufus. The first album in 1973 was a dud, but Stevie Wonder was so impressed by Chaka Khan's vocals, he wanted to write a song specifically for her. "Tell Me Something Good", written by Stevie, on their 1974 album won a Grammy. (He also played harmonica on 'I Feel For You'.). But, because of her increasing popularity the record label started calling the group Rufus "Featuring" Chaka Khan, (which was the title of their fourth album that had the hit single "Sweet Thing") and this caused tension in the band. She was back and forth with the group for a few years. Went solo in 1978 and became a legend. With its Afros, bell-bottoms, cars as big as boats, and disco soundtrack, Car Wash is a perfect time-capsule of America's bicentennial year." - http://www.threemoviebuffs.com/review/car-wash.html   108.    [Audio Clips]   109.    Open Comments   110.    TV Scene   111.    What: What's Happening!!   112.    Who: Starring Ernest Lee Thomas, Haywood Nelson, Fred Berry, Danielle Spencer, Mabel King, Shirley Hemphill   113.    Why is it featured: The last show dedicated to black families until(?) The Cosby Show in 1984. The next few years introduced the interracial family dynamic. (Different Strokes like stuff.)   114.    Short Story: Loosely based on Cooley High. What's Happening!! follows the lives of three working-class African-American teens living in Watts.   115.    Critic Review: Unlike its contemporary Good Times, What's Happening!! isn't committed to presenting enlightening social commentary or providing empowering African-American role models. Most of the problems the gang faces here are typical of what kids from any community have to deal with. While the show has its funny moments (especially when Dee offers her strong, often sarcastic opinions), much of the show's humor stems from a slapstick-like comedy style that's reminiscent of the minstrel show stereotypes of the 1930s - https://www.commonsensemedia.org/tv-reviews/whats-happening   116.    [Audio Clips]   117.    Open Comments:   118.    Final Question: Biggest legacy from 1976?

By Rita Charon, Sayantani DasGupta, Nellie Hermann, Craig Irvine, Eric R. Marcus, Edgar Rivera Colón, Danielle Spencer, Maura Spiegel Just published by Oxford University Press, "The Principles and Practice of Narrative Medicine" is the definitive work on the current state of the field of Narrative Medicine. Written by the founders of the field, the book articulates and embodies the complex foundations of this now internationally robust discipline. Through inter-related chapters on social justice, liberatory pedagogy, classical Greek philosophy, phenomenology, narrative and literary theories of the acts of reading, narrative ethics, and the sources of creativity, the authors present to readers a compelling argument for the need to fortify clinical practice with the creative and narrative capacities to recognize and affiliate with individual patients and to work toward health care justice to improve the quality of health care for all. The authors hope these essays will help our colleagues to join us in developing the conceptual and practical foundations of our shared field.
