Bir insan kelime-i şehâdet getirerek Cenâb-ı Hâkk'a bir söz vermiş olur. Müslüman dünya hayatını yaşayacak; ama nasıl yaşayacağını Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) Efendimiz'den ve Sahabe-i Kirâm (r.a.e.) efendilerimizin hayatlarından öğrenecek. Onlar ne şekilde yaşadıysa o şekliyle yaşamaya gayret sarfedecek. Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) “Benimle bu dünyanın hâli, bir ağaç altında istirahat edip ihtiyaçlarını giderdikten sonra yoluna devam eden yolcunun hâli gibidir.” buyurmuşlardır. Madem ki Resûlulâh (s.a.v.)'i seviyoruz, madem ki Sahabe-i Kiram (r.a.e.) efendilerimizi seviyoruz, o zaman bizim de dünyaya bakışımız bu şekilde olmalıdır. In this episode of AlchemistX Innovators Inside, host Ian Bergman welcomes Amali de Alwis, a dynamic professional with a rich background in technology and innovation. Amali, known for her roles as CEO at Climate and Data Accelerator Subak, Managing Director at Microsoft for Startups UK, and CEO of Code First: Girls, shares her unique journey from a curious child fascinated with building and fairness to becoming a serial entrepreneur and influential leader in the tech world. The episode traverses through Amali's diverse career path, from engineering to shoe design, leading her to discover her true passion in the principles behind design and research. This shift marked the onset of her innovation journey, heavily focused on understanding the dynamics of the world and aiding brands in crafting relevant products and services. Amali's role in the tech industry was deeply influenced by her geeky side and her initial foray into software engineering. Ian and Amali discuss the sense of restlessness often experienced by individuals in large organizations, underscoring that such feelings, while challenging, can lead to significant scale and impact when effectively harnessed. The conversation then highlights Amali's impactful work with Code First: Girls, an organization she founded to bridge the gender gap in technology education. Amali shares the organization's growth, teaching over 40,000 young women to code, and its role in empowering women to enter the tech industry. Exploring the concept of innovation beyond technology, Amali reflects on her time in shoe design, emphasizing the crucial role of understanding how products interact with people, which is key to innovation in any field. The discussion also covers Amali's time at Subak, where she focused on climate data acceleration and the collective fight against climate change, highlighting the need for data sharing and collaborative problem-solving. Delving deeper, Amali discusses the intersection of innovation, fairness, and the drive to make a difference, citing examples from various organizations addressing critical issues like climate action and decarbonization.  The conversation also touches upon how income inequality and the pursuit of profit can conflict with fairness, yet underscores that innovation can still lead to a fairer world. This episode of AlchemistX Innovators Inside offers a deep dive into the complexities of innovation, fairness, and the impact of technology on society, providing valuable insights for aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators alike. “It's not difficult to understand that a population that makes its livelihood off the land would find climate change oppressive, and would find climate change to be tantamount to persecution.” All signs indicate that 2023 will be the hottest year on record, yet again. If this sounds like something you've heard before, it is. Every year it seems like records are set, broken, and then broken again in cities, states, countries, and regions across the world. The heat, droughts, floods, and storms are putting pressure on people and their livelihoods, primarily in the Global South. As founder and executive director of the organization Climate Refugees, Amali Tower explains in this podcast, these climate disruptions are causing more and more displacement in the world, and each year the number of displaced people increases by the millions. Border Chronicle readers should recognize Amali's name: this is not only her second podcast (please check out the first one here), she also wrote a piece for us one year ago titled “Finding a Solution to Climate Displacement: Time to Divert Border Enforcement Billions into Loss and Damage Finance”. In this conversation, as we approach the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference in the United Arab Emirates (that begins on November 30), Amali offers a provocative reframing of climate change and its impact on people. Climate change, she says, is a form of oppression for the majority of the world. By placing climate as an equivalent to persecution (similar to political, economic, or racial persecution), she challenges prevalent Global North narratives and offers new ways to view, think about, and tackle climate and displacement in the world. She asks listeners to consider this following question when thinking about people on the move: “How has the situation risen to such an oppressive level that I have absolutely no recourse but to leave my home country?” And, finally, Amali insists that it is the people with these lived experiences who should be leading the important climate conversations.  Listen to this podcast and you might not think about climate and migration in the same way again.   --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/border-chronicle/support

On this episode I have a full debrief with the eliminated contestants from ‘Australian Idol' 2023. My first guest is 'Anya Alchemy' a young blues singer-songwriter from the depths of the 'Dandenong Ranges,' Victoria.  We will talk about the pressure of the show and why she seemed a little cross with the judges comments this week. 'Anya' will talk about why 'Royston' should win over the others and why she is proud of him. I will also find out why she won't be doing any more singing competition shows. Then we will bring 'Amali Dimond' into the podcast and equally get the inside story on her Idol journey! Amali was the early favourite to win and with an amazing voice for her age. The popular teenager from NSW took to the competition like a duck to water. We will talk about the pressure being the early favourite. How 'Amali' really felt during that shock elimination. What her parents think of her being on the shows. Then we will bring 'Ben Sheehy' into the podcast and equally get some interesting perspectives on his time in the competition. 'Ben Sheehy' is a composer and musician based in 'North Brisbane,' 'Queensland' and while he wasn't exactly what audiences expected he certainly left an impression on anyone that heard him sing. We will talk about if Ben fit into the 'Idol Mould.' Why 'Ben' thinks audiences were so supportive of his time on the show. How he discovered he could sing this big songs Plus we will some exclusives on the new series including some behind the scenes secrets from all three guests which I am sure you will love.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

By: Evan Barnard In this episode, Evan Barnard, a research fellow at the Center for Climate and Security, discusses human migration and climate security with Amali Tower and Kayly Ober. Ms. Tower is the Executive Director at Climate Refugees as well as a member of the World Economic Forum and its Expert Network in Migration, Human Rights and Humanitarian Response. Ms. Tower has experience in promoting the rights and protection of refugees and forcibly displaced persons with UNHCR, various NGOs and the US Refugee Admissions Program throughout Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the US. Ms. Ober is the Senior Advocate and Program Manager of the Climate Displacement Program at Refugees International. Prior to Refugees International, she worked as a Policy Specialist for the Asian Development Bank and as a Consultant at the World Bank, where she authored the flagship report Groundswell: Preparing for Internal Climate Migration. The podcast features a discussion of three recent migration reports. The Biden Administration's U.S. Strategy for Addressing the Root Causes of Migration in Central America lays out its proposed course of action to address and mitigate Central American migration and its “root causes.” The Climate Refugees, Climate Change, Forced Displacement, and Peace & Security report investigates the international security perspective on climate change as a driver of human migration through a human rights lens. The report by the blue ribbon panel of Refugees International Task Force Report to the President on the Climate Crisis and Global Migration provides a human rights-centric discourse of the relationship between climate change and human migration. In the conversation, Ms. Ober suggests reevaluating refugee status qualifications to include climate-related crises. She reasons that the Convention and Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees should, by definition, cover persons fleeing from climate-related crises. The Biden Administration's executive order Rebuilding and Enhancing Programs To Resettle Refugees and Planning for the Impact of Climate Change on Migration acknowledges climate change affects migration and calls for a forthcoming report on the relationship between climate and migration. Ms. Tower recommends greater prioritization of climate change in international multilateral institutions like the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Climate change affects all people, but it does not affect all people equally. According to Ms. Tower and Ms. Ober, a change in political will is needed to make substantial progress towards comprehensive human rights-based migration governance and creating more inclusive migration policies that incorporate climate change considerations.  For further reading, please check out Ms. Tower's blog post, Central American Climate Migration is a Human Security Crisis.
