Back to the well of extremely extensive horror franchises here... or at least horror naming conventions, because while a lot of AMITYVILLE movies probably don't technically count for the show, this one certainly does.Mitch is on Letterboxd.Art by Jade Dickinson: @jadesketches on Instagram | @jadesketches on TikTokListen to the new Guest Room Status song Stall at the StartListen to Liam's Weezer podcast hereFind the show on InstagramFind Corey and Liam on TwitterFind MK Podquest and Strat 2 hereReach us via email: tmaopodcast@gmail.com"Eighties Action" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Gary Hill and Richard talk about the entirely trashy Amityville II: The Possession from 1982, directed by Damiano Damiani. After my longest break yet, I pop back up just in time to want to go back into hiding, being Election Day and all. In the meantime, here are my ramblings on two horror movie marathons I attended in October: 1. "Camp Frida: British Invasion" at The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana, where I watched the following UK-based horror movies: Ghostwatch (1992); The Legend of Hell House (1973); The Blood on Satan's Claw (1971); Theatre of Blood (1973); Dracula (1958); and Xtro (1982) Click here for the blog version of this episode.

Vi pratar också om: Exorcisten, Mats Strandberg, Hemmet, The Last Exorcism, The Taking of Deborah Logan, The Possession, Véronica, The Devil on Trial, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Hereditary, Linda Blair, Amityville II: The Possession, Scott Derrickson, Sinister, Anneliese Michael, Juryn: A Time to Kill, Suspiria, Tom Wilkinson, Grady Hendrix, My Best Friend's Exorcism, Jennifer Carpenter, Mike Flanagan, brottet mot reciprocitetsprincipen, Edvard Munch, Laura Linney och Freuds återigen användbara begrepp das Unheimliche. Bigfoot (1970), Creature from Black Lake (1976), and Abominable (2006). Tales of a mysterious, giant beast that wanders the wooded areas of the U.S., has never really proven to exist, but even to this day, is believed by many to really be out there, still hidden from mankind. Starting with Bigfoot in 1970, our furry giant became the subject of many movies and documentaries, and even on TV shows, such as The Six Million Dollar Man and even his own Saturday morning series, Bigfoot and Wildboy (1977). All this did was increase the interests in the subject matter, even if it didn't make any new believers. It's a subject that is still being used today with more modern day films taking on this sub-genre, in many different variations and strange interpretations. So join us as we discuss three different styles of the Bigfoot genre and see if you believe in Sasquatch! Films mentioned in this episode: Abominable (2006), Abominable Snowman (1957), Amityville Bigfoot (2024), Amityville II: The Possession (1982), The Amityville Horror (1979), Bigfoot (1970), Bigfoot vs Megalodon (2021), Bigfoot vs Zombies (2016), Bug (2006), The Cannonball Run (1981), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Creature from Black Lake (1976), Day of the Animals (1977), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), The Fog (1980), Halloween (1978), House of 1000 Corpses (2003), Invasion of the Animal People (1959), King Kong (1933), Legend of Boggy Creek (1972), Legend of Boggy Creek II (1983), Man Beast (1956), The Manitou (1978), Men in Black 3 (2012), Mountaintop Motel Massacre (1983), Night of Bloody Horror (1969), Night of the Demon (1980), No Country for Old Men (2007), Old Boy (2007). Being possessed by a house makes you do some fucked up shit! We're streaming this on Peacock. Move out immediately!
Your Stupid Minds does one last spook ‘em up to round out the (now passed) Halloween season. It's the Italian horror-infused prequel to a “real” haunting: Amityville II: The Possession (1982). The Montelli family, made up of abusive father Anthony (Burt Young), manic mom Delores (Rotanya Alda), 26-year-old teenage son Sonny (Jack Magner), older daughter Patricia (Diane Franklin) and some other kids move into a new home in upstate New York possessed by a demon. They immediately begin providing ample dysfunctional fuel to feed the demon in his possession plans. The father is a physically abusive maniac, the oldest siblings have a weirdly close relationship, and the mom is fed up with it all. The demon makes quick work of possessing Sonny and enacts its plan to murder the entire family. Can the local priest, Father Adamsky (James Olson) stop him in time. Will Catholic bureaucracy approve an exorcism? Will Sonny's birthday party go off without a hitch? Considering this happens before the first movie, I think we can all assume this will not go well.
Look, I know that I have said it so often on this show that it has lost all meaning (did it ever have meaning?) but this week, it's a spi-cy meeeat-a-baaaaall! Holy ghost, literally. We are tackling the 2023 Russell-Crowe-as-an-Italian film "The Pope's Exorcist." Special topics for your consideration include: Crappy teens, possessed kids who just aren't Regan (can they even tap dance?!), Italian doctors living and working in Spain, the absolution of all the Catholic Church's sins, an extremely sexy pope, and a reminder that in most international settings, Americans are the worst. Exorcisms are a mainstay in horror, and horror is a mainstay in us. Check out Episode 90- "Amityville II: The Possession," Episode 155- "The Exorcist," Episode 216- "The Devil Inside Her" in which there is an exorcism of an extremely strong baby, my god what a fantastic film, and Episode 367- "The Last Exorcism." Christian Zyp interviews film historian/director Jason Pichonsky about the film THE AMITYVILLE CURSE from Canadian International Pictures. Jason did the commentary track on this release giving a tonne of insight into the film.THE AMITYVILLE CURSE deviates from series formula, to surprising, amusing, and unsettling effect. Handsomely shot by Rodney Gibbons (My Bloody Valentine) and based on a novel by famed parapsychologist Hans Holzer – who also wrote the source material for Amityville II: The Possession – this inspired oddity is full of memorable horror flourishes and moments of jaw-dropping weirdness. With a lively ensemble that includes Kim Coates (Innocent Blood), Cassandra Gava (Conan the Barbarian), Helen Hughes (The Incubus), and Jan Rubes (Witness), The Amityville Curse is essential Canuxploitation viewing.

Per IMDB : Diane Franklin is an iconic 80s American film actress, known for her dark curly hair, and dialects. Beginning her acting career at the age of ten, Diane started with modeling, theater, commercials, and soap opera work. She then won the lead role of the dream girl, Karen, in cult classic THE LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN (1982) and soon after played the daughter, Patricia Montelli in AMITYVILLE II: THE POSSESSION. Her break-out film role was the spirited French-exchange student, Monique Junot, from the off-beat comedy BETTER OFF DEAD. And her most notable commercial success was playing the medieval Princess-babe, Joanna, from 1980s iconic comedy, BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE. Diane sang the NATIONAL ANTHEM at Dodger Stadium in 2004, and wrote two autobiographies about her career.
On this edition of Parallax Views, filmmaker Jack Riccobono joins us to discuss his new MGM+ documentary miniseries Amityville: An Origin Story. Given the glut of Amityville movies, books, and documentaries that have come out through the years one could be forgiven for assuming Amityville: An Origin Story would be just another retread of the same old territory. After all, the Amityville name has now inspired such direct-to-video/streaming flicks as Amityville Cop, Amityville Moon, Amityville in Space, and, believe it or not, Amityville Vibrator. In that way many have come to view anything with the Amityville moniker to be a joke. Amityville: An Origin Story, however, manages to defy expectations and offer a fresh, even thought-provoking perspective on the infamous house on 112 Ocean Avenue by exploring how The Amityville Horror, from the brutal DeFeo family murders to the alleged haunting of the Lutz family and all the books and movies that followed, became a pop culture phenomena that's seared into the collective consciousness of America. Jack and I discuss many different facets of the docuseries including: - The culture of the 70s: rise of interest in occultism, mass institutional distrust due to the Vietnam War and Watergate, the popularity of horror movies like The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, and The Omen; how this all created the perfect storm for The Amityville Horror to make an impact on the zeitgeist - The brutal family annihilation murder of the DeFeo Family and its perpetrator Ronald DeFeo, Jr.; family dysfunction and family disintegration in the stories of both the DeFeo and the Lutz families; the lingering questions about possible organized crime/mob ties to the DeFeo Murders; the rare archival interviews of Ronald DeFeo, Jr. contained in Amityville: An Origin Story; discussion of Amityville II: The Possession, the cult horror movie based on the DeFeo murders; Amityville: An Origin Story's interview with Diane Franklin, who played Ronald DeFeo, Jr.'s sister Dawn DeFeo in Amityville II: The Possession; Amityville: An Origin Story's exclusive interview with Tommy Maher, a personal friend of Ronnie DeFeo, Jr. - The alleged haunting of the Lutz Family; paranormal investigator and famed ghost hunter Hans Holzer's thoughts on the Amityville House; Christopher Quaratino, son of Kathy Lutz, and the secrets of his stepfather George Lutz; why the documentary goes beyond asking the old question of whether the Amityville Haunting was "real" or a "hoax"; The Amityville Horror and the birth of the "Based on a True Story" marketing; demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, now famous for being the basis of the hit The Conjuring movie franchise, and their investigation of the Amityville House; Amityville: An Origin Story's interview with Lutz family friend Carol Soviero - The role famed filmmaker John Carpenter, director of the suspenseful horror classic Halloween (1978), plays in Amityville: An Origin Story - The Amityville House as a character in an of itself; Amityville: An Origin Story's exploration of the idea of home, real estate, and the warping of the American dream through the funhouse mirror of the Amityville story; the difficulty of living in the Amityville house today due to tourists and the general cultural baggage the house carries; the movie's tagline "For God's Sake, Get Out!" and the infamous Eddie Murphy about The Amityville Horror - The role of greed and profiteering in the perpetuation of Amityville saga in popular culture - The Amityville Horror and the ancient Indian burial ground trope in horror as it relates to both settler-colonial guilt and bigotry against Native Americans - The Amityville Horror in relation to conversations about the concept of a "post-truth" era; parallels between the 70s and today and the continued cultural resonance that the Amityville saga carries even now - The Amityville saga as a microcosm of the idea that there's "no new stories to be told" - Amityville: An Origin Story as part true crime documentary, part paranormal documentary recounting the Lutz Family's 28 days in the 112 Ocean Avenue house, part investigative journalism, and part cultural history documentary exploring The Amityville Horror's significance to cinema - And much, much more!

When the ickiest man in all of Long Island moves into everyone's favorite murder house with his family, he continues to be icky. When his horrible son shows up, he's horrible. The men of this family are so horrible and icky it's hard to see events unfolding any differently in a non-haunted house. But with the haunting it adds flies and some pretty sweet demon makeup which helps to make you forget about how gross everyone is. So join Matt and Tristan for a movie full of themes so unpleasant that any sane comedy podcast would probably skip over it and just do the 3-d one, Amityville 2: The Possession.
Hello Horror Heads, We're returning to Amityville II: The Possession but also talking about the original The Amityville Horror (1979) and the real-life crime behind the movies. But more importantly, we're thanking you for listening to us and getting us to 300 episodes. Love you all.

When a film is popular in the horror genre, most likely it will have a sequel. Or two. Or nine. When quality goes out the window to make a quick buck. Or is that completely true? Are there sequels out there that maybe not be as good as the original, but are still entertaining? Or, is there a sequel that actually surpasses the original? Before scoff, put some thought into that question. Or, listen to this episode first, then give it some thought. Either way, come listen to us rant and ramble on some of the sequels that we think are pretty fun, well made, or just a complete waste of time! A single word that will bring a look of hatred, disgust, or simply end the conversation: remakes. When brought up, many fans will immediately say “they suck” and move on. But do they all suck? Sure, we can all point out an example or two that we think of as abominations, but you can't lump all of them together. Because when you start to think about it, there are plenty of good remakes… and a few that we think are amazing! In this episode, we delve into this perennially controversial subject. We'll cover some of our favorites as well as ones that we feel missed the mark, and even try to figure out what makes a remake successful or... well, not so successful. The Thing With Two Heads Podcast with Sean Clark & Christopher Nelson
This may be our longest episode to date! In episode 43 we spend over 2 hours talking with Writer, Director, Editor, Production Designer, Musician, Part Time O.G. Shape and the man responsible for creating the iconic Myers Mask, Mr. Tommy Lee Wallace! We go into a deep dive with him about his career covering his history and work with John Carpenter. Tommy's film and television career from Amityville II: The Possession to Fright Night 2 to Stephen King's It and of course we dive deep into the 40th anniversary of his classic Halloween III: Season of the Witch. We may even have a surprise guest drop by. I considered breaking this episode up into two but honestly, I was so engrossed by this conversation with Tommy I felt it best to let it come out all at once because I think the time flew by doing this episode. I hope you all enjoy it as much as Christopher and I did. Hello fellow Dropped Culture enthusiasts! The Droppin' Deuces New Run for the 2022 season is getting close to an end! You literally have to shower after watching our next deuce "Amityville II: The Possession" Still not as bad a Highlander 2 but literally this movie is like winning the horror movie jackpot. It's 2 movies in one that rips off every great horror movie before it. Not in the cheesy way like the comedy parody movies because the cast and crew honestly thought it was serious. I mean come on, this movie has the magnificent Burt Young in it transferring his Rocky role to a 42 year old father. Same actor, same character, different movie....... Nonetheless we finished it and several bottles of whiskey, and hot showers, we have cleaned to movie off of us. Tag your it!Remember get all of your dropped culture needs in one place www.droppedculture.comExcelsior!
Sure, you may recognize Diane Franklin from “Better Off Dead” or “Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure,” but we celebrate the fact that she had iconic roles in 2 different Amityville films. Tune in to hear her thoughts on the controversial material in “Amityville II: The Possession,” what it was like returning to the series 36 years later in “The Amityville Murders,” and that time she auditioned for the role of Regan in “The Exorcist.”
The last Amityville to be released before COVID-19, so also the last episode in a perfect streak while Pat and Tom catch up from both getting COVID-19. In our defense, Omicron sounds like a cool Transformer, and we're both collectors. This one is also a quasi-remake of Amityville II: The Possession, and from the writer of Halloween 666: The Curse of Michael Myers, here also directing. We'll be back in a few weeks, with at least 12 more of these already released. Sharks, werewolves, personal massagers... it's going to be a weird ride.

In this week's episode, we're tackling a found footage film from the heyday of found footage films, 2010's "The Last Exorcism." Special topics for your consideration include: confusion about organized religion, the bayou, auctioneers, home schooling, secular vs nonsecular music, medical abilities and more!, solving a movie with a couple of phone calls and the demon that launched a thousand parody songs. Into movies about exorcisms? You can listen to us discuss the greatest in Episode 155- "The Exorcist." You can hear us talk about some others that are not the greatest in Episode 63- "The Taking of Deborah Logan," Episode 90- "Amityville II: The Possession," Episode 96- "The Conjuring" and Episode 333- "The Conjuring 2." Actually, scratch that. The best exorcism movie is Episode 225- "Beetlejuice." The Classic Film: Amityville II: The Possession (1982) "A dysfunctional family moves into a new house, which proves to be satanic, resulting in the demonic possession of their teenage son” (IMDb.com). The Amityville series hasn't quite gone bonkers yet, but this second entry is weird in uncomfortable ways. It's fairly interesting in its execution, but you couldn't say it's great. The Modern Film: Amityville Playhouse (2015) "A teenager and her friends become trapped in a haunted theater with a disturbing connection to Amityville's secret past” (IMDb.com). In anticipation of our upcoming book The Science of Serial Killers we're revisiting old episodes that feature movies we write about in the book! In this throwback episode we discuss The Amityville Horror and Amityville II: The Possession. We also talk about the true crime that inspired the movies.
In a follow up that sets the bar high for all of the sequels to follow, things get crazy then straight up unhinged. While billed as a sequel, it also serves as a prequel, but in ways that negate the concept of continuity. Before the film, Tom and Pat discuss other prequels.
